Why Christians Should Not Want Demons

Why do Christians want to be able to have demons so bad? I got a lot of pushback on the Holy Nope episode 322 in which the demon slayers lead Christians in a mass deliverance from ancestral spirits, voodoo spirits, spirits of witchcraft and mind control and tentacles.

Every spirit of voodoo, every spirit of obia, every spirit of witchcraft in the bloodline, I break your curse. Now, go! Every spirit of mind control, I sever every tentacle.

Responding to Deliverance Theology and the Comments

Now, I've made videos about the demon slayers and their theology, and I've covered texts like Ephesians 6, and David Levy and I are currently breaking down the Come Out in Jesus Name documentary. I'm not stoked that deliverance is the hill on which I must fight.

I don't really enjoy dealing with it, but here we are. And because I've made videos already, what I'm going to do in this breakdown is respond to the comments on my post in a rapid-fire sort of way. So when Jesus sent the apostles out and they cast out demons in Jesus' name, was that a nope?

Of course not. Jesus sent his apostles to the Israelites and gave them the ability to perform demonstrations of power to announce to Israel that their long-awaited Messiah had arrived. The problem is when we read ourselves into texts that don't apply to us in the way we want them to.

Are you also to avoid the Gentiles and leave your wallet at home? You're wrong on this one. You're becoming a Pharisee. I get called that a lot, usually by people who don't understand what a Pharisee is.

According to Jesus in Matthew 23, a chief characteristic of Pharisees is that they lay heavy burdens on men's shoulders. The demon slayers lay the burden of demonic inhabitation on the shoulders of God's children, adding to the gospel the requirement to cast out demons out of yourself and out of others.

Here's Isaiah Saldivar mocking Christians who haven't cast out demons.

So many Christians, how long have you been saved?

Fifteen years?

And you're telling me you've never cast out a devil? I'm like, what church do you go to? The Church of the Frozen Chosen, obviously.

If casting out demons was required of you, there would be some instruction about it in the epistles. I'm trying to get you to see that demonic inhabitation is a burden you don't have to bear. Okay, so what did they do wrong?

Spiritual Warfare, Ephesians 6, and the Armor of God

I hope y 'all know that as Christians we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but spiritual tyrants in the atmosphere. I made a video recently in which I cover Ephesians 6 and the armor of God. I think the simple exegesis of the text demonstrates that it has nothing to do with the modern deliverance movement.

I'll have it up here on the screen at the end of this video. Can I break the spirit of negative wrists so I can get a girlfriend? They actually teach that you can perform deliverance on yourself, so give it a try and keep us updated.

People can self-deliver by the power of the Holy Spirit. There you go. Would love to hear of your experience in casting out demons. Oh wait, there isn't any.

The Gospel as the Real Deliverance Ministry

People ask me how I would do deliverance. I would preach the gospel. If you don't have the signs that follow believers, then something is wrong with your faith. Maybe one day you'll be a believer with the evidence these men have.

This is the side conclusion of much charismatic theology. If you can't do what I do, then you have a faith problem. I'm waiting for people to start being consistent with Mark 16 when it comes to picking up serpents and drinking poison.

Dude, you are so wrong for criticizing this video. You have no idea, nor have you probably ever dealt with people who suffer. The devil is real and under our feet and there is power in the name of Jesus.

You sit in your suburban home just thinking about Christianity as a philosophy without power. Grow up, son. Call me crazy, but I actually believe that there is so much power in the name of Jesus that his people can't be inhabited by demons.

Tongues, Fire, and the Holy Spirit Filling Believers

I'm going to tell you why, because you're going to, you're blocking the door. What do I mean by that? How many of you know that when you start praying in tongues, fire, you're praying the fire.

Of heaven.

And what happens is whatever is in here can't come out because like I ain't going through that door. There's too much fire there. When the demon leaves a little bit later, the Holy Spirit will fill you.

And then at that moment you pray in tongues.

Nope.
