Guten Abend. That's the limit of my Deutsch. I'm equally as poor a Jew. My Hebrew is no better than my Deutsch. But despite all those limitations, I am a mouthpiece for the Lord. Privilege unspeakable.

Über die ganze Welt. Ich bin gerade erst zurückgekommen aus Afrika, Uganda, Kenia. Und nicht lange davor war ich in Chile und in Brasilien. Und dann zuvor in zehn Städten in der Ukraine. Wie die Länder auch heißen, mögen Mazedonien, Wales, Russland.

A Prophetic Calling to Serve Israel

Und sogar auf dieser Reise. Und zur gleichen Zeit bin ich gerufen worden, in New York zu leben. Meine Geburtsstadt. Dass ich mich dort meinen jüdischen Mitmenschen einfach zur Verfügung stellen kann. Die Mehrzahl von ihnen weiß überhaupt nichts von meiner Existenz.

Aber ich glaube, dass der Herr mich doch vor ihnen offenbar machen wird. Vielleicht bin ich jetzt nur eine Bedrohung, bevor ich ein Segen sein kann. Wir müssen eine Bedrohung sein, bevor wir ein Segen sein können.

Und wenn ihr das nicht versteht, dann werdet ihr in dieser Endzeit nichts rüberbringen. Denn ich spreche in Geheimnissen. Und ich glaube an das Wort Gottes, dass es wie ein Ereignis stattfindet. Nicht nur Lehre, Inspiration, Unterweisung.

Sondern das Wort Gottes kommt wie ein Ereignis. Aber das erfordert dann, dass man vollkommen unauffällig dasteht am Anfang. Dass da eine seltsame Spannung im Raum ist. Wenn man nicht weiß, wie man anfangen soll.

Einfach nicht weiß. Auch das Thema Gottes für diese Abende. Unbekannt. Und dass man dann sehr vorsichtig ist, dass man sich nicht auf Gott einfach überrumpelt. Indem man sich vielleicht anmaßt, ein Wort zu bringen, was er nicht gegeben hat.

Ich sage diese Dinge nicht, um jetzt Ihre Sympathie hier aufzurütteln. Obwohl, menschlich gesehen, wäre das gar nicht so schlecht. Sondern um Sie alle mit in diesen prophetischen Rahmen hineinzubringen.

Der weit verbreitet innerhalb der Gemeinde Jesu unbekannt ist. Und es mag unser Vorrecht in diesen Tagen sein, wenn Sie sich mit mir verbinden können, dass das Wort Gottes aus dem Herzen Gottes herausgehoben wird.

Und dass wir alle unsere menschlichen, religiösen Erwartungen einfach beiseite stellen. Dass wir sozusagen den Atem anhalten und auf jedes einzelne Wort warten, wie es hervorkommt von dem Herzen Gottes.

Bin ich jetzt romantisch? Bin ich idealistisch? Oder ist das äußerste Wirklichkeit? Können wir dafür glauben? Würden wir lieber in jeder anderen Weise versagen? Und trotzdem dann auf solch ein Ereignis hoffen.

Was dann wichtiger wäre, als Erfolg zu haben. Und wichtiger als Erfolg ist ein Wort, das zu uns gegeben wird. Das festgelegt ist, zeitgemäß ist von ihm. Für dieses Berlin, für diese Nation, für diese Welt, heute.

Prayer for a Word from God

So, Herr, was sollen wir vor dir sagen? Mögen wir deinem Wohlgefallen haben, dass du ein Wort in unsere Mitte legst und ich glaube an deine Macht, dass du mich auch vor mir selbst bewahrst, dass ich mich nicht anmaßend dir gegenüber verhalte, dass ich noch nicht einmal die Freiheit habe, eine Illustration anzubringen oder irgendetwas aus meiner eigenen fleischlichen Persönlichkeit.

Denn dein Wort braucht diese Ausschmückungen nicht. Wir wollen die Reinheit deines Wortes haben. Du, der du uns kennst, du weißt schon das Ende vor dem Anfang. Gib uns aber einen Anfang, so dass wir auch das Ende vor uns sehen können in diesen Tagen.

Sei unser Alpha und Omega, Anfang und Ende. Und dafür geben wir dir Dank, dass du solch ein Gott bist und so fähig bist. Wir segnen deinen Namen. Und Herr, wir wollen dich alle segnen. Und dein Herz soll vor allem anderen zufriedengestellt sein.

Danke, Lobpreis dir. In Jesu Namen. Amen. Der Herr ist dabei gewesen, etwas in unserem Geist anzufachen. Es begann mit einer Frage von einem Pastor, bei dem wir gestern Abend zu Gast waren. Er dachte wohl, dass ich eine Art Koryphäe in Sachen hebräischer Schriften sei.

Beschneidung als Zeichen des Bundes

Fragen und Antworten, ich bin dann der Mann dafür. Und er fragte dann, was ist das da für ein Text in 2. Mose, wo Gott bereit war, den Mose zu töten, weil er es total übersehen hatte, seinen Sohn zu beschneiden.

So begann das heute, mit solch einer Frage. Und während des Tages über haben wir das immer wieder erwogen. Und ich habe nichts anderes in meinem Herzen oder in meinen Gedanken heute Abend, als dieses großartige Thema der Beschneidung.

So wichtig in den Augen Gottes, dass er bereit war, gerade den Mann zu töten, den er vorbereitet hatte für die Erlösung Israels. Wegen seinem Versagen in dieser einen Sache. Wie wollen wir uns das erklären?

Und wenn Gott der Gleiche ist gestern, heute und in Ewigkeit, und beständig in allen Dingen nicht so wie wir, und seine ganze Haltung sich nicht geändert hat, und es ist für ihn weiterhin von ungeheurer Wichtigkeit, denn Beschneidung ist ja das Zeichen des Bundes, und wir haben es zugelassen, dass wir uns mit diesem Thema Bund, Bündnisse kaum beschäftigt haben als Christen.

So wurde ich ermutigt, doch ein bisschen von meinem eigenen Leben zu berichten, und ich weiß nicht, wie ich das jetzt einschieben soll. Kann man auch bis morgen damit warten? Und darf ich jetzt einfach in dieses Wort sofort eintauchen?

Oder müssen wir uns erst noch näher hier kennenlernen? Könnt ihr vielleicht ein sofortiges Erkennen vorlegen im Rahmen des Geistes, sodass keine persönliche Vorstellung überhaupt nötig ist? Nun, lasst uns sehen, wie Gott das Ganze entfaltet.

Moses, the Burning Bush, and Apostolic Mission

We want to look at this critical text in 2nd Moses. I think it is in chapter 4. Moses is on his way from Midian to Egypt. He meets God in the burning bush. What kind of meeting was that? Such a meeting must precede any apostolic mission.

No one can bring Israel out and into the land of promise without first a revelation of God, as He in fact is, as He is in His ultimate revelation, in the midst of a burning bush. And all that fire suggests of judgment and devastation, there God is in the midst and wants to bring us on that holy ground.

Or we cannot be sent. So that is a whole other message. Having received that revelation and that call, Moses of course protests that he is incapable. Who am I that you should send me? And that question is his qualification.

Not the man who slew the Egyptian in his princely and Jewish nobility and presumption, who looked this way and looked that way and saw no man and acted in his own initiative forgetting to look up. That cost him 40 years in the wilderness.

And now the vessel is chastened, dealt with. Prince of Egypt, Prince of Israel. The Levite of the Levites. And comes the revelation of God on the other side of the desert, the least attractive side, where few want to wander.

We prefer the better side, where the action seems to be. The greater prospect of religious recognition and success, no but on the back side. Dry and inhospitable. Having no apparent attractiveness. But having the capacity to strip a man.

Of all his presumption. All the things that he presumes to know and understand. The wilderness strips. And the revelation of God comes. In fire. Now fancy this. I hadn't thought about it. But are you ready to consider this?

Israel’s Future Wilderness Encounter

The experience of Moses will become the experience of all Israel in a soon coming time. Don't say it was never told. I'm sharing a perspective in which I am very alone and has not brought for me a popularity rather a reproach that I am expecting ultimate calamity for the Jewish people in the world.

Uprooting from all nations. And being sifted through the wilderness of the nations. Where like Moses they will meet with their God face to face. I didn't plan to share this with you so early. But I would be guilty of criminal neglect if I did not share it at all.

Like Moses we as a people need to be stripped of our presumption and pride. Like Moses in the killing of the Egyptian. We seek humanly to implement and to establish our own destiny. It's called the State of Israel.

But it will fail. Must fail. And propel us into the wilderness. The backside of the wilderness. Where he waits to meet with us. That he might bring us into the land of promise. And not we ourselves. I want to be very careful.

And to measure this out a little bit at a time. Though it was not my intention tonight even to begin such a thought. But you must hear it from me. Before our time concludes. And for the first time in 40 years as a believer.

And the speaking of the burning bush on many occasions. Which is the very title of our website. For as many as will turn aside to see. That when God saw that. He called Moses, Moses. He waited to see.

If Moses would turn aside to see. And the rabbis rightly say. It was the critical moment. Because he was not looking merely to satisfy your curiosity. But to answer the deepest of questions. That probes the deeps of reality of God.

Why this bush burns but is not consumed. He asked the great why. Which we have not asked. For the burning bush of our generation. That consumed six million Jews. Where six million Jews were consumed. And this bush is still burning.

And God is in the midst of it. And waits for someone to turn aside to see. And to ask the ultimate meaning of that conflagration. Which we have not asked. Even as Christians. Because we are afraid to turn aside.

Because with what assurance will we ever turn back. To those convictions that are so dear and important to us. Even about God. Do we really want to learn about him in the midst of fire. How shall that be reconciled with the God whom we love as mercy kindness.

But unless you take that apostolic risk. You cannot rise above being charismatic. However nice that is. It will not bring Israel out of Egypt and into the land of promise. Did not I tell you I would speak in mysteries?

And I am doing it now. If you have ears to hear. I think the Lord is answering our prayer. And I have not yet come to our text. But the pastor has assured me we need not rush tonight. Take as much time as is needful.

To luxuriate in the word. So I had never before seen. This conjunction. That what was appropriate for Moses will be appropriate for me. That what was appropriate for Moses will be appropriate for the Jewish people.

A necessary wilderness experience. For the deepest revelation of God as God. That is reserved only on the back side. Or if we do not receive it as Jews. How shall we bless all the families of the earth?

This is an expensive revelation. This is a pretty extensive revelation. We would have been content to find in our Talmud. That is the wrong side of the desert. As we will soon learn. And must learn. That we as a nation of priests.

As a nation of priests and a light to the world. I am living in the wilderness myself. New York is only the most immediate and temporary call. But where did the call come? In a place that you can hardly find on the map.

La Porte, Minnesota. In the North American wilderness. In the Arctic zone of North America. Where we have been 30 years. In a place no New York Jew would have desired for himself. But 30 years ago. The same God who called me by name in Jerusalem.

Personal Testimony and Conversion

And commanded me as an atheist and ex-Marxist. You are not to leave, Art. A God who knew me by name. And commanded me to remain. In the dormitory adjoined to the chapel and bookstore of these Messianic Jews.

Bewildered as I was. By the revelation that had already come to me. In the first reading of a New Testament. Aboard the deck of a Greek tramp steamer. Reading a Greek book. Making homage to Greece. Because in my history classroom I had in the back of my desk on the board two words.

Go Greek! Ultimate Jewish humanist. Know thyself. Man is the measure of all things. Greece is the origin. I was a Jew by birth. But I was a Greek by conviction. Those are the only choices you have. Leave it to the Lord.

To give me a revelation of himself. Reading a Greek book called the New Testament. For the first time. Not having read the Old Testament. Why should I as an atheist? But in this 14 months of travel. Passing through the nations.

Stripped of my possessions. And only what I could carry on my back. Stripped of my categories. Even my humanist assumptions. That human good will. And intelligence. And love. Can even enable a Jew to live.

With a girl from Stuttgart. Who was a member of the Hitler Youth. And was schizophrenic. And lived on the other side of the moon. And expressed the frenzy of her disordered soul. In a hatred against the man she loved.

In the one place where he was most vulnerable. His Jewishness. So that under my own roof. Was enacted again. The tragedy of the German and the Jew. Being expressed with anti-Semitic hatred. Which I needed to bear.

Because where was my good will then? Where were my humanist presumptions then? And my intelligence that could solve every problem. Except that. It took a German to bring me down. Which is symbolic and significant.

Because we Jews have so exalted Germanism. Through the whole time. And we have loved Goethe and Schiller and Fichte and Hegel and Kant. More than you. And that is an idolatry. The only thing that could cure us.

Is to suffer through the hands of the one whose humanist philosophies we have admired so much. That is my history. And it was asked of me that I finally open up. And be thrown out of all my thoughts. And was so to speak sieved through the desert of peoples.

Not that I was consciously looking for God. I was looking for philosophical answers. But God was looking for me. Where he then took me as a stopper on the side of the road. By people who had an unusual courage.

And were not intimidated by an angry Jew. And expressed something. Kindness. That I had never seen. Even as an ideological communist. They were believers. Almost daily. God prepared me. To read their book.

Which came into my hands. And route to Greece. And in the first reading. Of this Jewish figure Jesus the Christ. Who compelled you either to throw the book over the side of the ship. And the absurd statements that he makes of himself.

If you see me you see the father. I and the father are one. Forgiving men their sins. Acting in all the prerogatives of God. And that he intends to represent God. Either you reject this book. As the most absurd.

The craziest. The most unbelievable blasphemy of God. Or you fall before him. And you also start to cry. My Lord and my God. Why am I telling you this in detail? Because my experience is a prototype. It's a pattern for that which is to come.

Israel’s Judgment, Restoration, and the Nations

We Jews need to be rooted up and out. Not only our places of security and affluence. Places where we feel safe. Where we feel good. And we have found that in our diaspora. Safe places, wealth. But our thoughts.

Our assumptions. Our antichrist attitude and prejudice. All our prejudices. All our incredulities. And the wilderness will rid us of them. In Ezekiel chapter 20 we read. I will meet you in the wilderness of the nations.

Face to face. And there you will come under the rod of my authority and into the bond of my covenant. That is yet to be fulfilled. But the clouds of anti-Semitism are deepening worldwide. And the first of the human bombs that will explode in New York and Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, will root us up and out and set us on the wilderness trail.

And where he waits to meet with us, and one of the places where they will be brought, La Porte, Minnesota, where we have been waiting and preparing for 30 years, 100 miles from the Canadian border, confident that God has not allowed the waste of time and energy, and that they will be coming in flight from terror and for persecution.

In the time of Jacob's trouble, and will be sifted through the nations. And as many as the elect as will survive, will return to Zion with everlasting joy upon their heads, though they did not leave it in that condition.

Because they will not again be plucked up and cast out. Because they have been abased in the nations. God will exalt them, as he did his own son. After he was brought down by a violence unto death, that we might assume our national call.

The head of all nations. And the locus and center of his theocratic role. So that the law shall go forth out of Zion. And the word of the Lord out of Jerusalem. Revelation chapter 12, speaks of the woman whom the dragon seeks to devour.

And she flees into the wilderness, by the wings of an eagle as it were. Where a place has been prepared for her. And where she will be fed for three and a half years. So if you have a certain prophetic capacity, you can make a quite reasonable case of an apocalyptic devastation that must come.

Called in Jeremiah the time of Jacob's trouble. That makes you to understand the present and growing anti-semitism as a necessary preliminary. And the proliferation of Islam in every nation. Will not be satisfied merely with Israel's defeat.

But requires her humiliation. Will effectively pursue the Jew in every nation. Including your own. That's why you may not want to turn aside to see. Because to see this, makes a requirement of us. Of an ultimate time.

To identify with them in such a time. And suffer the consequence of that identification. Share in their peril. At the risk of our own life. As Gentiles? Yes. Not grimly with resignation. Do I have to?

But with rejoicing. For the privilege. Even if such a martyrdom should be required of us. For their sake. And the Lord's sake. Whose kingdom waits on their return. Now can you understand why I'm choked and spluttering and how do I begin?

The Nations’ Judgment and the Least of Christ’s Brethren

When I bear a prophetic perspective of this kind. And not knowing how and when to express it. But the Lord is running ahead of me. And is beginning with the most difficult things. How then shall we end?

You need to be in prayer for these days. Once and for all that will not come again. Once and for all days that will not come again. An event for the church. In the capital city. But intended for all the nation.

And in the predominance of Germany itself. For all nations. So when the king does come. At the completion of such days. He has only one question for the nations. By which their eternal destiny will be determined.

The righteous will enter the kingdom prepared for them. And the wicked. Into the lake of fire. With the devil and his angels. Because they failed in one question only. What did you do for the least of these, my brethren?

Moses’ Circumcision and Covenant Responsibility

So maybe we can understand Moses. Because everything is so interconnected. The issue of covenant. Circumcision. That God himself was prepared to destroy his deliverer. And sought to kill him. In verse 24 of chapter 4.

But Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son. Not Moses himself. His Gentile wife. Circumcises her son. And cast the foreskin at his feet. And cries out, you are a bloody husband to me.

And repeats it in verse 26. So God let him go. Who would otherwise have taken his life. For how shall he lead Israel. When he himself forfeits what is so central to the whole identification of Israel.

The people of the covenant. Symbolized and set the requirement of circumcision. How could the man have forgotten it's significance. And then unwilling for the requirement. Because he knew that his Gentile wife could not understand that practice.

The text indicates that. She's indignant and angry. She is disheartened and angry. You bloody husband. Cast the foreskins at his feet. Which we were told today is a Hebraicism. Referring to sexual intimate relations between a husband and a wife.

The covering of the feet is a Hebraic phrase referring to sexual intimacy. Could she be saying by that act. I'll take care of this bloody requirement. But you can forget about the intimacy that you think to enjoy as a husband to a wife.

My reprimand will be your denial. It could have been for that reason that he avoided the subject altogether. Had God not required it at the threat of his life. So I want to end with this. And perhaps pick it up again tomorrow night.

As the Lord will unfold it. But to appreciate the predicament of Moses. That I personally am in an extraordinary place to understand. Because when the Lord gave me another wife. Again a European. From Denmark.

And my first son was born in Copenhagen. And when I requested his circumcision. In the matter of fact way that any Jewish man would expect it. My wife went purple in her face. That a thought that any knife should come against the flesh of her newborn son.

So as to cut it. And bring blood. Made everything in her gentile nature to be revolted. At so barbaric requirements. That is completely against the law. Unintelligible to the gentile mind. But makes perfect sense to the Hebraic mind.

So I understand Zipporah. Because I've had to understand my own wife. And suffer something of the consequence that I'm suggesting about Moses. An enforced abstinence. A denial of the flesh and its legitimate satisfaction.

Because that might be the requirement of any man called to bring Israel out that he might bring them in. I'll leave you with that thought. And that mystery. And to what degree will such a circumcision be required of you.

That you might be to the people Israel what you must. Beyond your German goodwill and good intention. Inspired by sentiment. Or perhaps by guilt. Will not be enough. To be to them what we must. But a circumcision.

Cuts. Draws blood. Whereas the Jews say it's not valid. The most ultimate and radical act of separation. Required of Moses. Required of me. Required of you. As many as will be called. To be the instruments of deliverance.

For Israel in the wilderness. Of the last days. Let's pray. Let's pray. Lord. What are you saying? But we've never heard you talk like this. Your every sentence is charged with mystery. Meanings of a kind that we tremble even to understand.

And we confess. That we have been shallow. Simple. Sentimental. Wanting easy and convenient solutions. That would not make such requirement of us. As was made of the great deliverer of Israel. And those who will complete that task.

In every nation in the last days. And especially this nation. Teach us what these things mean. And continue to minister to us through the night hours. Break us up in our deeps. Turn us to your word. That we might wrestle with the remarkable word circumcision.

And realize that this is what Jesus experienced at the cross. That we might join him. And be cut out from the land of the living. Lord, you've given us this strange beginning tonight. Beyond anything that any man could have calculated.

A true omega beginning. Bring us to your omega conclusion. Don't spare us. Speak to us as sons and daughters. Give us the full truth. As it now is in Christ Jesus. Give us the grace to receive it. And be changed by it.

Thank you and give you praise. For the privilege of these days. Beyond anything that we could have expected. So great is this hour. So short is the time. Speak Lord. For your servants are hearing. We thank you and give you praise.

In Jesus' name. And God's people said. And God's people said. And amen. And amen. Bless you.

Spiritual Fruitfulness Through Cutting

That's right. Because he wants us to bear fruit. And that's why it's so important. Cutting happens in the spring. Where the juice comes. And before the juice comes, the cutting begins. And we want the action of the Holy Spirit.

We want the resurrection of all things. Cutting. The gardener of God. Cutting. But without the cutting, it won't work. I thank you for the Holy Spirit. I thank you for the prophetic, apostolic speech through your servants.

And I thank you that you have a place here. Where you prepare your community, your people, your people for your cause. And Lord, help us not to look away. Help us not to listen away. But make us really curious.

And through your Spirit and through the message of Arthur, you made us curious this evening. Let us go to the bush in the next few days. And see what the fire means. What the story means. Lord, we want to be seized this evening by the Holy Spirit.
