Joseph: And He Washed His Face — J. Frank Norris

The international airport will be out there between here and Dallas, and they're going to make it the finest airport this side of New York. There'll be 10 ,000 people around your community. You've got about 150, 200 members out there.

Just been called that. I want you to quit screwing here. Are we going out there and go out there and see every chicken and chow and kissing every baby in that neighborhood. You may not get all my lectures, you owe me the worst off you don't.

Even if someone's out to handle you, you owe me the worst off. But I want you to go through every wire fence and see everybody in 10 miles, that place. That's what I'm out there for. All right. I don't want to see you around here two weeks, I don't want to see you here for a week.

I'll suck your shoes. If any of you have feathers and pictures of me kissing rods and running, walk away and downtown and see me. Sure will. All right, now fire me up. We got that one. Get a hold of me and say you wouldn't be giving a few days to people being saved, if King Markey asked, King Markey's cute.

Walk up to that one and say, my name is David. I'm the pastor over here, so you go to church. And I want to meet you. I'm going to be out there in this neighborhood for the next 10 years, maybe longer.

I'm going to preach a lot of people. You may preach yours, I want you to get ready. Anytime we have a good meeting, you want a preacher to come and pray with you, you get in touch with me and I'll come and pray.

I don't care what time of day it is, 2 o 'clock in the morning, people there at all hours, you know that? Did you know more people die at night than they do at day time? Did you know that? Did you know more people die after 12 o 'clock than they do before 12 o 'clock at day time?

Did you know that? No sir. Well, I'm teaching you something. And see all the old people. You know what it means to have a chicken child. Hello Sam, hello Tom, hello Bill, hello everything. You know what I'm going to do by the name of the Lord?

Know the birthdays. No, you're not going to do birthdays, you're not going to do it. Give me a book, you got one? Alright. When you go into a place, you take a visit. And I'll take down the names of everybody that went home.

Write them all down. That's helping a wife, 10 children, 14 grandchildren. Pray for every one of them. Call them all by name. I remember you guys. That's what you do. Write them down. Write them all down.

Alright, let's stand and have a word of thanksgiving. Let me say prayer. Say thanksgiving, then pray. Then once again, when you pray for them, don't say Lord bless the children. Lord bless Sam, Tom, Sally, Willie, and Honey.

Just call them over, all of them. It's easy. Scripture says watch and let us pray. And that won't save a husband. Say you know I like that young fella. Yes. Yes. And let them all come in the church. You got to build a new church soon.

Yes, sir. Alright, thank you. Thank you, sir. Of course, we're going to pass this down. It's not worth it now. Not worth it. I understand. First meeting I ever had, I slept on the bed once again, cuttin' out the front porch.

On the way, I took a bath, went down to the creek where there was a swimming hole. Rolled off with it. And had to have some old-fashioned lime soap. I never did like lime soap. But you cut your bed off.

Went down there. After a meeting, going back inside. Slept with two in that same hole in the wall. I went to see everybody in that whole neighborhood. Remember, the south angels was all in the head power, heart power, hand power, helium power, special light.

Then the one said to me, man, it's in that laser. Down in that laser. Come around and told me about it. Well, I just went. It's a hundred feet deep, I tell you. These are part of Eagle Mountain. They put two hundred feet.

Put wires around your legs and jump in. Won't kill you one inch, and I'm going to commit suicide. I said, what route are they choosing? We're missing everything from the gas line. I said, we'll just jump on a gas line.

I wouldn't jump off a tall building down here. I said, you're missing the sidewalk. I wouldn't blow a thing down. I said, well, you might need them in the other way. I said, the best way is we'll take out all the insurance you can take.

We'll get you two one-hundred pound weights. So I can't wait for a hundred feet deep over a nine-mile race. It's midnight. Nobody come along. They'll fall off. The weights will keep you down. I said, we're going to float back to here, and we can get you a desk boost, and you'll chill and get the ten-thousand dollars.

I said, I'm going to kill you if I'm invited you to commit suicide. I haven't invited you. You haven't asked me. You don't know about me. Peter is the best friend. He's taking me on a trip every Sunday morning.

That's what I'm going to tell you every day. People come to me for advice. I find out what they want to do, and they'll advise me. People don't want you to change their opinion. They just want you to confirm me.

That's all. The girl told me the other day, she doesn't know about certain young fellas. She's about to get in love with them. She said, you're already gone. She said, yes. Well, what do you want to pay me back for?

Took them around, my brother. Now, I gave you a lecture the other day. Obviously. You were rejected on so many days. I'm going to ask you one question. Incidentally, there are ten papers that are rejected in those papers.

They're unsatisfactory. That's why we have three of them. Don't accuse us in general terms of us. And so I make a satisfaction. We've judged what's satisfactory. Now, we're going to find ourselves in a life of the air.

The problem is, it's Friday night. We're going to have a thousand of fellas. It's going to be equal ratio. And God's hand is going to be challenging every number of fellas. I know when it gets out. Oh, Terry, you know what we're doing down there at the chimney?

Just don't recall. That's all I want. I'll oppose you. I'm opposed. These fellas out. I don't see a one of them. Boy, it's getting over here in the hall. They're just as happy as I can see it. That's not fair to the rest of us.

Let this go by. We've had two, three already. Let that go by. But now we're going to let the next go by. You need to spare about a week or so. Because we've got to run out of the air Friday night. So you run out of all the team you want on the other side.

Egypt's Place in Biblical History

I gave you a lecture on Egypt. A section on history of it. That's not all of it. The next time you go to a doctor, you ask him where he gets such a term. He'll say, if he's well educated. And he'll tell you there are two nations or two peoples where all medical terms come from.

One is Egypt, the other is Rome. So many Latin terms. You will find that there's much to learn. There's so much that's come down to us from Egypt. I want this morning to just notice how much and large a place Egypt played in the history of the Bible.

Begin with Abraham. The woman who got him in trouble, he got in trouble, and the whole world's in trouble now. Three hundred million Mohammedans. Because their mother was a legitimate pagan. Egypt is the perfect center of what the world is.

Going back to the onions leaked from the gardens of Egypt. That's good. Temptation of every eucondrius. Even the children of Israel, after they were redeemed, standing on the other side of the Red Sea, said, you brought us out here to die.

They are afraid to eat down there in Egypt. And they did. They had a well-safe land, the choices of all the land of Egypt, the land of Joseph. Of course, when we think of Egypt, we think of what? Of the life of Jesse, Joseph, Moses, Jeremiah.

He died in Egypt. Pharaoh Necho, who defeated his good king, Josiah. Young on the plains of Megiddo. Egypt was at war, continually, with the ancient empires of Chaldea, Mesopotamia, the Second Babylonian Empire, Assyria, and even, after Cyrus the Great, Cambyses succeeded.

He took a powerful army, an army of 150 ,000, went out down to the desert. The desert storm came, and there was no more land. The desert ground was obscene, not a moment's peace. He came back with another army, and subdued Egypt.

Palestine was a battleground between the country falling on the Euphrates and Tigris River, and Egypt was a thousand miles away. To exceed the importance of Egypt, our Lord Himself has carried down from the raft and headed to Greece.

Of course, there are two men that mean so much to us, Joseph and Moses. One carried down when he was 17, then he was born there. Years went on. Jacob thought that Joseph was dead, and grieved, for he was his favorite son.

Joseph's Brothers Recognize Him in Egypt

At last, when they brought, when famine brought the brothers of Joseph down to see him, he knew them, but they did not know him. The most dramatic picture in the whole Bible is the story of Joseph and his brothers.

When he had been put in prison, they spoke in that native Hebrew and said, Oh, do we not remember the annuals of that morning? His blood has now fallen on us, Joseph's hands. I'll give you some texts, texts that you can use after a while, that's what you want.

If I have anybody that will lecture to you and you don't get a text, then walk out. There's one of the greatest texts in the whole Bible. When Joseph saw his brothers and knew them, and they did not know him.

Put this down. I won't have time except to call attention to a few things. Genesis chapter 3 and chapter 1. And he washed his face. You can't preach all that without preaching it. Turned his side and could not contain his fears anymore.

Wonderful lesson, I imagine, with King Jehovah along the water down there when the city was in siege. And he had the sackcloth on the other side and the purple, royal purple next to him and the wind blew and he saw the royal purple.

I will show it on the other side. We should conceal it. Quick text then. Take it and preach it. May I give you this. Join the appointment with the office of governor. Remember, pay your respects as I am in your throne.

Joseph had more power in our interior. He was lord of all the land. He was a full controller. He was the absolute dictator. James S. was aware of the prime minister and had the power and the king was at the city again.

That's true in England today. It's been true in many countries. It's been true in Germany before the First World War. It certainly was true in higher Italy. The office of governor goes back to the beginning of Egyptian history.

He does not, as we use the word governor, for instance, the governor states inaugurate the nation. He has limited powers. Government of the Constitution and Bible, powers of the legislature. But not so with this office.

So the office was there and had been for centuries. That's how God does things. God had also created for Joseph at that time and also been in existence all the time with all the life, wealth, crops, beasts, men, everything.

I guess that you'll understand then more the tremendous responsibility of Joseph. There were great dreamers, the ancients there. They gave life and pension to dreamers. They had four lawyers, astrologers, physicians, soothsayers, and the Chaldeans of the ancient Chaldeans.

These, the priests at the place of Chaldeans, soothsayers, fortune tellers. Physicians, latter hands, like the serfs, had to dig down and change the rock. Astrologers, studying the stars. The priests were corresponding to the Chaldeans, the highest intelligence, the educated, the philosophers.

Now, when you understand their customs, you can quite understand much of what's said here in the history of Joseph and Moses. Here were in green two greens. They were the same thing. Six years and plenty.

Some thought this mean. Now, here's something you may have to know. Even to this day, in the rich land that's irrigated, they go seven years on the top corn. That was the premium. If you do less than that, you are not this credit.

So that is no accident. That was the natural thing. Seven years and so. They have an average of three crops sometimes more, sometimes less. They have no winners there. And that was a thin fat cattle in the seven leagues of the East.

And we had not harvest in the East. And the that we West, were in the So you know the story, I said to him, you know, there's nothing. He came back. That's a while, that's a, that's calm, but there's nothing.

I had to send back some more. He said, you can't go unless you take our young and present, darling. You'll never let us see your face again. Jesus said, what did you tell him? I had to tell him something.

I believed him. And the man, you can ask him about our past on the cross. He remembers. He said, we can tell him, because we're innocent about it. We can know what he's up to. Because they're conscious of what he's pursuing.

Judah's Plea and the Meaning of Surety

One of the greatest teachers, because, in my opinion, the greatest piece of evidence in the whole Bible, is the address of Judas. Now, here's a real case for you, a great job. I'm not crazy, but I'll assure you.

In Genesis 44 and 16, beginning, and Judas said, what shall we say unto thy Lord? They needed a code to present themselves. What shall we speak? Or how shall we clear ourselves? Lord, I've found out the iniquity of thy servants.

We are thy Lord's servants. Both we and he also. A fool that cut this down. And he said, God forbid that I should do so. But the man in whose hand the cut is found, he should be my son. Joseph's speaking of it.

And as for you, get you up in peace unto your father. Then Judah came near unto him and said, O my Lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word, who my Lord is. And let not thine anger burn against thy servant.

Thou art evil as faith. My Lord, ask your servant, say, have ye a father or a brother? And he said unto my Lord, we have a father, an old man. Watch how he repeated it to the senators. And even this Egyptian who listened to him.

We have a father, an old man. Oh, let me stop here and say, what do you have to preach? Put some tears in it. Put some human iniquity. Put some human relations in it. I've got all the commentators I guess worthwhile to think about.

They'll preach the anti-Israel. And then to Charles Ferguson. Dr. Gill had an anti-conviction. Ferguson was one of the great convictors. Spoke in the Bible, spoke in Latin. He had an anti-conviction twenty-five years after that.

I'm not against the convictors. I refuse to give you a deacon in human relations. And he said unto my Lord, we have a father, a child of his old age. He lives with him and his mother. And he alone is left of his mother.

And his father loves him. I cannot conceive of more power than tears of trust in one verse. Now, he goes, do I read that? Put some in it. No, you never end it. And he said unto my Lord. This tape is continued on side two.

We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age. He lives with him and his mother. And he alone is left of his mother. And his father loves him. And thou saidest unto thy servants, bring him down unto me, that I may set my eyes upon him.

And he said unto my Lord, the Lamb cannot leave his father. For if he should leave his father, his father would die. And thou saidest unto thy servants, if that your youngest brother come down with you, he shall not see thy face no more.

And he passed from the king unto thy servant, my father, with too many words from my Lord. And I will come to say to him, and buy us a little food. A little food. And he said, we cannot go down. If thou the youngest brother, if thou the youngest brother be with us, then we can go down.

For we may not see the man's face. Said thou the youngest brother, be with us. And thy servant, my father, said unto us, ye know that my wife bear me two sons. And the one went out from me, and I said, sure, let him.

And he tore him to pieces. And I saw him not since. Now watch out what's going on in the soul of Joseph. And if he takes this also from me, and mischief is on him, he shall be brought down. And my three hands, my three hands must follow to the grave.

Then, my Lord, when I come to thy servant, my father, and the land be not good to us, seeing that his life is bound up in the land's life, it shall come to pass, when we see that the land is not good to us.

He will die. And thy servant shall bring down the good hand of Christ. The good hand of thy servant, our father, in sorrow. Thy servant became surety. The type of preaching of Jesus Christ. Thy servant became surety.

Please commission a session for all that come unto God's island. He is our advocate. For thy servant became surety of the land. Unto my father say. If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father forever.

And bring him not to stand before the flaming rod of blood killing me. And I know him. For I have assured him that stands for me. And he will bear the blame. Now my father, I pray thee, that thy servant of thine, instead of the last perfect substitution, be fond unto my Lord.

And let the land grow up with his brethren. And shall I grow up to my father, and the land, and the land not be with us, with me. This my preaching. I receive the angel. That shall come on my father. And that's the most eloquent preaching in the whole Bible.

Joseph Reveals Himself to His Brothers

Then Joseph could not complain himself. A man that stood by him. And he cried. For every man that wept for me. There stood no man. With him. While Joseph made himself known to his wife. Now strange to be few, ye people, now in drags and falsehoods.

And if you look on him who liveth, yes. Then they shall recognize him as their Messiah. Have thee rejected Joseph? And don't let too many things of him. Please don't do that. The lack of understanding will work itself.

The glory of standing in truth here. Pardon me. The spirit of Jesus. Son of man. Joseph revealed himself. To those who had despised him. Who had rejected him. Who had murdered him.

I can tell you. You couldn't believe that they heard him. They were astonished. They were overwhelmed. He says come near. Then he took vengeance.

So look at his face. His features. His mouth. His nose. His eyes. And perhaps too. You can see. That we are full of blood. Because one of the great. I want to give you a text. Come on. Just for anybody else.

If you don't get a text, I'll preach on it. I've sat with great regret. Throughout my whole course. I didn't get a hand that doesn't take the back of Jesus. I was on preaching. You're going to need it too.

I'll tell you. You're going to need it out there. I can confirm it old man Jacob. Because we found Joseph. He's alive. So now he is. And we've just seen him so much. In the biggest bunch of crooks. That's what I've sent children.

To go to Sarasota. And find out what English is in it. I don't need a word of it. And it is. I'm here. And I have the great text. And so far in this manner. After this man of ten ashes lived and so on.

So he sent his brethren away. And he departed. And he said of them. See that you don't have a row in the way. And they went out. Out of Egypt. And came unto the land of Canaan. Unto Jacob their father.

And told them saying. Joseph is alive. And he is the governor. Of all the land of Egypt. Jacob's heart fainted. For he believed them not. And they told him all the words of Joseph. Which he had said unto them.

And here's what it read. And when he saw. The wagons. Which Joseph had sent. To carry him. The spirit of Jacob. Their father. Revived. And he too said. It's enough. Joseph my son is yet alive. Now if you can't preach on those wagons.

Wagonloads of Comfort and Spiritual Provision

He didn't have any wagons when he went down there. He just had a long train. And a camp of grasses. And here comes a big big wagonload. A long train. Looped with things to eat. His spirit revived. Now now see.

I'm the story. He saw the spirit which he found within us. And the truth to the spirit. Love and peace. Wagonloads. If you were going to live alone. You were able to ask your faith. Wagonloads. Well you had to probably give good things.

To be able to ask your faith. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. The people are hungry. Wagonloads. Their hearts broken. The mother yesterday buried the baby in the coal mine.

Wagonloads of comfort. Wagonloads. The furthest from the fire. Not in the country. Even in the hospital. With the slag they got eaten. Wagonloads is home.

Wagonloads. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. That is enough to spare. All the demons of Egypt. Hurt the commander of the governor. He's all alone. Wagonloads.

Wagonloads. One has to be able to think of expecting more. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. You are in the cool room. Morning you see the little cattle in the lot. And the long-haired mules and the horses.

And the hogs. And all the domestic fowls. All of it there. That old pinfoot farm. You see it up there. You got no wind up down there? Everything's still. Put some boards over there. Just clear through.

Clear through. Clear. Wagonloads. Wagonloads. And to come to here you preach. And you got wagonloads. Wagonloads. You can't preach on that. I know a preacher. Some day I'll speak to him. He was a great Buddhist man.

I'm sorry. A great preacher. He'd better be alive and stay with us. The fact is he had a great son. Poor old man. He didn't have anything to do with it. He was a Jewish old man. He wanted to make a joke of it.

He said, just come back here and I'll give you a big penny every day. Well. I'll give you a pound too. Some day they'll rule the world. And we don't like it. We don't like it much. So Jacob came. The time came to go.

Jacob Meets Pharaoh and Blesses the King

Jacob! Jacob! We've heard that expression twice. He's a great man. He's a great Christ in his own right. Jacob! Jacob! Leaving the land down in Canaan, going down to Egypt. Moses! Moses! Saul! Saul! And they said in five minutes of this prayer, great mountain peaks came to the life of each man twice for his sins.

Preach on it. Good service. Have a lot of them laid around. And when you're out in the wilderness, preach up. Preach up on the Shabbat. He says, John, honey. Honey for a minute. Have some honey for breakfast.

Some hot biscuits and bread. Let me give you, John, honey. Would you like to have a little breakfast, Jimmy? Come on, honey. Come on. Let me give you, John, breakfast. Would you like to have any hot biscuits for dessert?

Then some orange marmalade. Yes. Keep that down. Thanks. But you've got to have a drive up there before you can submit it. Do you want some crude ham? Have a little bit of ham? I'll give you some. Just slice it up.

Just cook that ham. I love crude. Just slice it up. Do you want some good homemade salt rising bread? It's the best part of the plan, isn't it? And here's one of the great texts of God with me. He said, John, there's a 47th chapter in the book.

He sent eight knights, ten persons. And you'll find the great text. If you don't see the text of that, go and get down in Mammoth Pea if you don't have any eye. One day, Joseph, Lord of this house amazing, riding in his beautiful chariot, sees the old man.

He is spread a bit now. He says, how old was that man? How old was that man? 17 years old. Now, if he lived 17 years, I'll think about it. One day, Joseph went out to see the old man. He said, look, if you haven't got time to brag to the old people now, do me a favor today.

Come on, come on. I'm trying to give up the despair now. And you're too busy out there on Sunday. What will you do? The old man says, I feel like I've got all day to get this. And so Joseph went out one day to see the old man.

He says, Father, I want to take you down to the palace and introduce you to the king. Oh, no, Joseph. I've never been in a palace in my life. I've been railed out on the ranch, as you know, to see how narrow my hands are.

And I'm living for somehow. I appreciate your invitation, but I must not. I would advise you. I don't know a thing in the world about the etiquette of the court. Joseph said, but Father, you must go. Father said, well, you're the lord of all the land.

He said, I've got to go. I don't want to. I have my clothes. All I've got here is old sheepskin and wine. Besides, it don't smell very good in here. So he said, I'll put on a coat. Oh, son, I couldn't wear any coat.

I've had all that stuff on the floor. I haven't been in here. I couldn't. Well, you can all just like you are. Well, son, I'll just wish to be so humiliated. I'm as amazed when he gets in the royal chamber and is down to the counter.

Joseph told Pharaoh, tomorrow I will bring my father to issue the proclamation. The father, the father of Judah, the name of Jesus, is coming. That's a great holiday. Everybody stop and see. In the entrance, as always, big glass doors swing ajar.

That tall magnificent, like a specimen of young manhood, 32 years old about about, in the iron bench, white beard, old man, as he leaves, magnificent as he is. Pharaoh is on his throne, and he doesn't lift his head.

Joseph keeps step with his father, and he walks silently the long paths in front of Pharaoh and says to all the court, He is my father! And here's where the rooms of court were filled out to women, and old Pharaoh came tumbling down on that throne.

And there he says to Judah, I want you to bless me there. You will be dropped, and I see you face to face. And he's a worthy man. Even to this day, he is still there. The government must respond. After 300 years of the deal, you'll be dropped to the sands on the head of Pharaoh, of King Moses, of Pharaoh.
