All right chapter Luke, Luke chapter 11 verse 1. It seems that from this first verse the Lord's disciples didn't know how to pray and I thought about that but they didn't have the Holy Spirit as we have.
And it came to pass that as he was praying in a certain place when he ceased one of his disciples said unto him, Lord teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples. Russell, is prayer to be written down or to be spontaneous?
It has to be spontaneous and personal. Now remember God the Father knows you better than we know ourself. I don't think he wants me to put on any airs or assume an unnatural voice, flowery language. That's not prayer.
Also we shouldn't get wordy. This is what he taught his disciples and he said unto them when you pray say our Father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come. I have it messed up a little bit.
Russell turn to Luke the second verse and read two three and four for me. Our father not my father but our father were to act like a child of his to share him with others. Thou art in heaven. Well that raises my thoughts to heaven not on earth.
Hallowed. How do you hallow? Clarence what does hallowed mean? Our thoughts, our speech, our actions. Be thy name thy kingdom come. Now Bill thy kingdom come what's this referring to? All right. Diane is it referring to anything else?
Thy kingdom come in grace to inspire us in power to defend us in glory to crown us. Thy will. Thy will be done. Thy will. Joy? Thy will. What's that mean? All right. Thy will be our will. That's what I would want for his will to be my will.
To be done cheerfully, constantly, consistently, perfectly. That's right. Thy will be done. That's a known fact at least known to us. It's not known to most of the world but he is not teaching the world.
He's teaching his disciples. You're right Clarence. Thy kingdom come now and forever. Thy will be done. I would that his will was my will and it will be done cheerfully as in heaven so in earth. Now Russell how is his will accomplished in heaven?
All right. It has some resistance on earth but not in heaven. As in heaven it's perfectly done so in the earth. Yes but if it were then we wouldn't grow. It's ironic that we don't want any problems. We want everything to go right but at the same time we want to grow in Christ and we can't have it both ways.
As in heaven so in earth in the thought, feeling, speech, action of each one of us. Give us. John give us. Day by day give us. What does that bring to mind? We look to him for everything. Day by day. Now Diane day by day brings to mind what?
That's right. So right. We need it just for today only. Our daily bread. Now what's included in that Bill? Our daily bread. All right. As much as is needed for us this day of which we are not barred from having an honest care for the nourishment of our lives but that criticizing care which kills a number of men is cut off and to give us forgive us our sins for we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us and to forgive us.
Clarence you take that and to forgive us our sins. I want you to tell me what I'm talking about. Exactly right and forgive us our sins. How can we forgive others unless he forgives us and how can he forgive us unless we forgive others.
Now Russell and to lead us. Lead us means what? Yes and to lead us. All right. John does it mean that and to lead us are right? The right way? That's right. We're going to depend on him to lead us not into temptation.
Do not leave us in temptation. Don't leave me there. Well Bill would he leave me there? Clarence he will deliver us from evil. From the evil one. We're delivered from Satan. There's no situation in life in which we may not do his will.
