House Bill 467 just became public this afternoon.
Fox 50 News reporter Chris Arnold spoke with anti -abortion and pro -choice advocates who let their
voices be heard on this extremely emotional issue.
My name is Chris Martinson.
I'm the head of Voice for the Voiceless and I'm neutral on the bill, but only
because I don't see it doing anything.
That's kind of what we've seen in the past but last year the bill
misleadingly said that the abortion clinics were closed and abortion has ended.
They said that from the stage at the convention, but we know that this was never true.
The history of abortion laws has always been to allow abortion into law.
In fact, abortion is legal in Utah up until birth for the mother
and that's written into every law.
In the latest report from the Utah Vital Statistics, there's 2
,810 abortions performed under 15 weeks, 168 over
15 weeks, 40 of them being after 21 weeks.
So these lawmakers wrote past the laws that support this and
the sponsors last year of HB 467 told me that there was little or no support
from legislature to end abortion in Utah.
In fact, the exceptions were taken.
If they were taken away, then the LDS organization would come out against the law.
To wrap it up, writing these bills give bodily autonomy to one person but
not another.
We need the bills that protect humans from other humans when those want to hurt them.
So anything less than an equal protection bill is unequal weights and measures and that's an
abomination of the Lord, Proverbs 20.
Thanks for your time.
