- 00:00
- We begin this morning with Genesis 6, 6.
- 00:07
- And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
- 00:17
- I want you to turn to Numbers 23, 19, please. God is not a man that he should lie, neither the
- 00:31
- Son of Man that he should repent. Hath he said, and shall it not be?
- 00:40
- Shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
- 00:48
- Seems like we have a contradiction here. And it repented the
- 00:54
- Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
- 01:00
- Dennis, we know the Bible does not contradict itself, so what's going on?
- 01:52
- Yes, yes, we need to go a little bit deeper. First of all, note that it repented the
- 02:01
- Lord. It does not say that the Lord repented. What's the difference,
- 02:08
- Greg? All right.
- 02:20
- It repented the Lord. We're in Genesis 6, 6. So, in another version
- 02:35
- I found, and the Lord regretted that he had made man.
- 02:43
- But in the King James, it says repented. Now, repent.
- 02:53
- We have to look at that word. When the
- 02:58
- Bible speaks of God, the word nocam is used.
- 03:10
- Strong's 5162. When the word speaks of God, the word used is nocam.
- 03:20
- It's a primary root. It means that he breathed strongly.
- 03:27
- By implication, it means to be sorry in a favorable sense.
- 03:37
- When the word speaks of man repenting, the word shub is used.
- 03:44
- Shub, to turn back. Not necessarily with the idea to return to the starting point.
- 03:53
- But to take, to weep, to gain, to bring home.
- 04:03
- So, in the case the Lord was sorry for the people, even though he had ordained everything that was taking place.
- 04:17
- It's hard for us to imagine that. But we know that our children cause us to feel bad at times, even though it was no surprise to us.
- 04:33
- And we knew that they would probably do that. But we're never sorry that we gave birth to them.
- 04:43
- Now, I hope none of you have this American Standard Bible.
- 04:50
- I'm not going to ask you if you do or if you don't. But I would urge you to burn it.
- 05:03
- Because it says here that God changed his mind.
- 05:09
- And in Amos 7 .3, it says that God changed his mind. David, give me a rundown on what would happen if God changed his mind.
- 05:36
- It's so obvious to me. How could the Lord change anything that he has already done?
- 05:49
- He couldn't without undoing that that he has done. Now, God's not making this up as he goes along.
- 05:59
- Everything was fixed long ago. That is just simply a fact that we have to observe and accept.
- 06:10
- That it is all fixed. Even your being here this morning or your not being here this morning.
- 06:22
- Alright. Alright. Now, did
- 07:16
- God destroy the earth because it had become so bad? Dennis?
- 07:49
- So, he destroyed the earth because of the wickedness of man.
- 08:23
- If man had not become wicked, he wouldn't have destroyed it. Is that right?
- 08:37
- Which sin are you talking about? David, help him out a little bit.
- 08:54
- Did God destroy the world because it had become so wicked?
- 09:49
- Christ, the Son of God, is the one whose affinity is with the world and with man.
- 09:55
- And that was stated before. He was created with the Father.
- 10:00
- His affinity is with the earth and with man.
- 10:08
- So, I can see Christ being what
- 10:13
- I would call the Son of God. Who is the literal, created finger of God.
- 10:21
- Who created these broken -hearted over this.
- 10:28
- But, from the Father's viewpoint, He did not respond to these people that caused the flood.
- 10:37
- Because that would mean saving. We would abandon and change God. So, I think this was foreordained.
- 10:46
- It was God's plan that the whole world would start again. So, it certainly was no surprise.
- 11:19
- But, this is the first time that I remember that He expressed it so eloquently. The Lord, Christ, is the
- 11:30
- Son of God. Remember that. Now, from the moment
- 11:37
- He spoke it, it has been done. Even before He spoke it.
- 11:52
- 7. And the Lord said, Now, all of this is written from man's view.
- 12:01
- I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth.
- 12:07
- Both man and beast and the creeping thing and the fowls of the air.
- 12:13
- For it repenteth. Now, this is the same word. May that I have made them.
- 12:23
- Destroy. Makal. Means to erase.
- 12:31
- To blot out. To wipe it away. But, there was one man.
- 12:41
- Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. This does not mean that Noah was the only righteous man.
- 12:55
- He is the only righteous that is going to be saved through the flood.
- 13:05
- In Hebrews 11 .6 we have, But without faith it is impossible to please him.
- 13:13
- For he that cometh to God must believe that he is. And that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
- 13:24
- Then in verse 7. By faith Noah being warned of God of things not seen as yet.
- 13:33
- Moved with fear. Prepared an ark to the saving of his house.
- 13:40
- By the which he condemned the world. And became heir of the righteousness.
- 13:46
- Which is by faith. In verse 9.
- 13:53
- These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations.
- 14:01
- And Noah walked with God. Noah was a just man.
- 14:09
- Dennis, what does that mean a just man? Well, that is true.
- 14:22
- But what does it mean as far as the world is concerned? Alright, alright.
- 14:50
- Joy, what is a just man? Alright, that is part of it.
- 15:23
- Greg, well can a just man.
- 15:43
- Here in this verse. Mean that. Necessarily mean that he is saved.
- 15:57
- Greg, well.
- 16:06
- David is a just man.
- 16:12
- In the way of the world is a just man. A saved man.
- 16:39
- And it was always just. To do it right. So that God now is going to save him. I think it is just because God is justified.
- 16:47
- To give faith. To be saved because of his faith. Well, what you are saying.
- 16:54
- What everybody is saying is right. Except. Joy got close to it.
- 17:04
- A just man. Will give another man. Exactly that that is due to him.
- 17:14
- Whether it be benefit or not. He is a just man.
- 17:23
- He will always. Give the person. Exactly what is due to him.
- 17:33
- That is a just man. Now. He could see the real justice.
- 17:56
- Now justice and just are two different words. Noah was just.
- 18:02
- In his justness. He saw the justice. What God will do.
- 18:10
- Now. For 120 years. I know we read it very quickly.
- 18:16
- We don't take near that long. But. He preached. I will get to that later.
- 18:25
- Back to the verse 9. There was. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man.
- 18:32
- As far as the world was concerned. He never cheated anybody. Perfect in his generation.
- 18:41
- Perfect means that he was exactly. As he should be. Before all men.
- 18:50
- And Noah walked with God. There is the crowning key. He walked with God.
- 18:56
- Or he couldn't have done this. Every day he would walk with God.
- 19:03
- And every night he would sleep with God. Yes. A little bit louder.
- 19:34
- Sure. I think all of this is taking place.
- 19:43
- Without Noah being aware of it. It is just his nature.
- 19:49
- To walk with God. What a statement. Yes. He walked continually.
- 20:03
- Ten. And Noah. Begat three sons. Shem. Ham.
- 20:10
- And Japheth. Yes. From Shem. Greg we have who?
- 20:16
- Who descended from Shem? The Jew. Who descended from Ham?
- 20:28
- All the black people. The Egyptians. The Africans.
- 20:33
- Babylonians. Philistines. Canaanites. All of the Negro. Ham itself.
- 20:40
- The word means dark or black. From Japheth and who
- 20:46
- Greg came from him? All right.
- 20:58
- It means beauty. His descendants spread over the north and west part of the earth.
- 21:06
- This is in relation to the garden. The earth also was corrupt before God.
- 21:14
- And the earth was filled with violence. There is a word violence.
- 21:21
- Unjust gain. Everything you can imagine. It was cruel.
- 21:27
- False. Oppressor. Unrighteousness.
- 21:32
- Violent. And God looked upon the earth and behold it was corrupt.
- 21:41
- For all of the flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. Now it says all the flesh.
- 21:48
- We know that wasn't true. Methuselah was here. Noah was here. So when it says all it means the most part.
- 22:02
- It could have been one percent. That was not included. But this again is written from man's view.
- 22:12
- And God said unto Noah. Now how he said this I don't know.
- 22:17
- If he appeared to him in a dream or in a vision. Or he spoke to him audibly.
- 22:26
- The end of all flesh is come before me. For the earth is filled with violence through them.
- 22:36
- And behold I will destroy them with the earth. Now what does it mean
- 22:43
- David when he said the end of all flesh is come before me.
- 23:22
- That's it. The time has arrived. Now we're going to see tremendous unbelievable things take place with this world.
- 23:36
- Start now preparing a list that you will have with you when
- 23:41
- I ask you. A list of things that changed because of the flood.
- 23:51
- Make thee an ark of gopher wood. Now an ark we've all seen the little pictures that the kindergarten has of a little ship.
- 24:02
- Believe you me it wasn't little. Make thee an ark of gopher wood.
- 24:09
- Rooms shall thou make in the ark. And shall pitch it within and without with pitch.
- 24:17
- Now that's a very strange term. First of all an ark means a box.
- 24:25
- Rooms mean nest. Then pitch. Pitch it.
- 24:32
- David you'll probably have to help us out here. The word is gopher. What does gopher mean?
- 24:48
- Yes among many things that it means it means atonement.
- 24:57
- Now Dennis take the word atonement and apply it to the ark and to us.
- 25:05
- Well that's part of what
- 25:30
- I'm saying. Alright.
- 25:42
- Yes Fred. And that's where we are.
- 26:13
- In the atonement of Christ. Nothing can hurt us.
- 26:19
- We can't escape. Nothing can get to us. Noah was to seal this box on the inside and on the outside.
- 26:36
- Well Fred answered the why. It was to keep the water out. To make all inside safe.
- 26:47
- And it is a forecast of our salvation. Now as I said name some things that Noah is going to have to do beginning right now.
- 27:04
- He's got to build holding pens. Gather feed for the animals not only while they were in the pens but also the trip.
- 27:15
- He has to cut trees. He has to make lumber. He has to preach every day.
- 27:22
- And Dennis did he have any help in doing this? Well I can't see the three of them building such an enormous ship.
- 27:51
- But maybe they did. But Greg it seems strange to me that he has to build this.
- 28:01
- Something that's never been done. He's in the middle of dry land. And he has to do all of the assembly.
- 28:11
- Why didn't God say to him if you will go three miles north and turn right and over that hill you will find an ark.
- 28:27
- Sure. That's the key.
- 28:39
- Man has always had to do everything that he can. Except the salvation.
- 28:47
- God does that. Fifteen. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of.
- 28:56
- The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits. How long is that Dennis?
- 29:11
- That's right. And the breadth of it fifty cubits.
- 29:18
- And the height of it thirty cubits. So it's four hundred and fifty foot long.
- 29:24
- Joy how long is a football field? Fred? Football field.
- 29:40
- No. Well look that up for next week.
- 30:00
- Seventy five foot wide. And forty foot, forty five foot high.
- 30:08
- Now I used to have a model that I would show you but I can't find it.
- 30:14
- I guess it sailed away. The displacement was nineteen thousand four hundred and fifty tons.
- 30:27
- David explain to us the word displacement. Very good.
- 30:41
- I can't see who's on the back row. Nineteen thousand four hundred and fifty tons.
- 30:57
- Who's sitting on the back row? Arlen. Arlen's hiding.
- 31:10
- How much did the door to this ark weigh Arlen? You weren't there?
- 31:28
- You haven't seen it? Now the door weighed eighty five tons.
- 31:39
- It wasn't some little cracker box thing that he was making. Eighty five tons.
- 31:48
- Now would he have to close and open that door several times to fit it?
- 31:56
- Sure he would. To make it water tight. This was a tremendous undertaking.
- 32:10
- Sixteen. A window shalt thou make in the ark, and it shall be a cubit. Thou shalt finish it above, and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof.
- 32:21
- With lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. And behold
- 32:26
- I, even I do bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh.
- 32:32
- Wherein is the breath of life from under heaven, and everything that is on the earth shall die.
- 32:42
- Now, was this a local flood? Arlen, was this a local flood?
- 33:00
- I think it was. A local flood.
- 33:07
- Is that right, David? If you say local, that's a great word.
- 33:16
- It's only going to involve the planet earth. So it is a local flood.
- 33:38
- It includes every place and everything that God created.
- 33:45
- That's right. Now the earth is smooth. Keep that in mind. Mountains are not here.
- 33:53
- We'll get into that next week, or the next, or the next. But with thee will
- 33:58
- I establish my covenant. And thou shalt come into the ark, thou and thy sons and thy wives, and thy sons' wives with thee.
- 34:08
- Now, did God send Noah and his family into the ark,
- 34:14
- David? I can't repeat it.
- 34:24
- Yes, that's right. Joe, I helped your son out.
- 34:55
- You know what I said. What?
- 35:08
- No. Some place in there
- 35:16
- I think you were cheating. You shall come into the ark.
- 35:28
- Come, not go. Come into the ark. Why is that important,
- 35:33
- Dennis? God is there.
- 35:40
- He's inside. Come in here and you will be saved. Come to me and you shall have life everlasting.
- 35:51
- No. He was inside and he called
- 35:56
- Noah. And of everything thou, of all flesh, two of every sort, shalt thou bring into the ark to keep them alive with thee.
- 36:11
- They shall be male and female, of fowls after their kind, of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind.
- 36:22
- Two of every sort shall come to thee to keep them alive, and take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee, and it shall be food for thee and for them.
- 36:40
- Thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
- 36:47
- Now, why did Noah do all of this? He had never seen rain.
- 36:56
- Why did he do it, Dennis? He had faith.
- 37:05
- Remember, faith is future. Sight is past. We say we walk by faith.
- 37:15
- That is, I believe what God says, what he has done, even though it has not happened yet.
- 37:22
- The moment it happens, it's sight, and the unseen is faith.
- 37:30
- We'll talk about that some more at a later time. Is there any statement from anybody?
