Freedom, Choice, and Consequences

So if we take the word and we put it together, that means that you have the right and you have the choice, according to freedom, to do what you want to do with your life. There's consequences for our freedom actions.

And the actual word freedom, according to Webster's, means this. The condition of being free of restraints. Liberty of the person from slavery, detention or oppression. So when God created Adam, He gave Adam freedom.

Adam's Dominion and the Fall into Sin

He gave him dominion over the entire earth and he was free to do what he wanted to do with that when he was governing it. He had free dominion. But then we turn over to that leaf of sin. When that happened, guess who Adam gave that dominion to?

Satan. When Adam disobeyed God, he willingly submitted himself to the rule of Satan and to sin. In one bite. Just one. Listen to me real quick. Friend, it doesn't take you doing a lot of sin to be bad.

Just one bite. Just one taste. And you're gone. You're hooked. That's it. So Adam was no longer free. He had no freedom. The Bible says that we are all slaves to sin. So how in the world do you get free?

Dying to Self as the Path to True Freedom

You die. Does the person in the casket worry about what they're wearing? Does the person in the casket care about all the flowers that are around them? Do they care that they're going to miss Monday night football?

What if they had tickets to the game this Saturday? Do they care about that any longer? So what does that mean? They're free. Because they're dead. So what is true freedom? True freedom is dying. But in order to do that, you cannot run away.

You have to run to death. It's said that 94 of all people that come to Jesus Christ, 94 backslide. Is that God's problem? Or is it how we present it? There are a ton of noble men in the church today.

Rejecting Compromise with Sin

We line up on the opposite side of Satan's army. And we look at it and we say, you know what? The odds are against us. How in the world can we win this war? And they stand there and they say, well, we've got to compromise.

We have to compromise with the opposite army. We have to compromise with the devil's side of things so that we don't get hurt. And I'm telling you tonight that if the church would quit compromising, we would actually win the war.

Enslaved to God and Alive in Christ

But we've got to be willing to exercise our freedom and to die for it. But now, having been freed from sin, and now we are enslaved to God. So here's the thing. We run towards death, we gain life. Guess what, friend?

Every single person on this earth, whether you're a Christian or a non-Christian, is a slave to somebody. If you are a Christian, you are enslaved to Jesus Christ. If you're not a Christian, guess who you're a slave of?

Paul's Loss Compared with Knowing Christ

You're a slave of the devil and the selfish desires that run this world. How in the world can Paul say, I've given up everything and nothing that I've ever had in this world is compared to knowing Christ and the fellowship of sharing in His suffering?

The Cross and the Call to Give Christ Our Lives

He was no longer enslaved to the sin of this world. But he was now a slave to God. Because that death upon that cross paid the sins for every single one of us. And there's not anything that we cannot do to pay that sin back but to give Jesus Christ our life.

Because He's worthy of it and He deserves it.
