Philistines forty years. And there was a certain man of Zorah of the family of the Danites, whose name was

Manoah, and his wife was barren and had borne no children. Then the angel of Yahweh appeared to the woman and said to her,

00:30

Behold now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall be with child and give birth to a son.

00:38

So now, be careful not to drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing.

00:44

For behold, you shall be with child and give birth to a son, and no razor shall come upon his head.

00:52

For the boy shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb, and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the

Philistines. Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome.

And I did not ask him where he came from, nor did he tell me his name. And he said to me,

Behold, you shall be with child and give birth to a son. So now, you shall not drink wine or strong drink, and you shall not eat any unclean thing.

For the boy shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death. Then Manoah entreated

Yahweh and said, O LORD, please let the man of God whom you have sent come to us again that he may instruct us what to do for the boy who is to be born.

01:41

And God listened to the voice of Manoah. And the angel of God came again to the woman as she was sitting in the field.

01:48

But Manoah her husband was not with her. So the woman ran quickly and told her husband, and she said to him,

Behold, the man who came the other day to me has appeared to me. Then Manoah arose and followed his wife.

And when he came to the man, he said to him, Are you the man who spoke to the woman? And he said,

I am. So Manoah said, Now your words will come to pass. What shall be the judgment governing the boy and his work?

02:16

So the angel of Yahweh said to Manoah, Let the woman be careful in all that I said.

02:22

She should not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing.

02:30

Let her keep all that I commanded. Then Manoah said to the angel of Yahweh, Please let us delay you so that we may prepare a young goat for you.

02:40

And the angel of Yahweh said to Manoah, Though you delay me, I will not eat your food.

02:45

But if you prepare a burnt offering, then offer it to Yahweh. For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of Yahweh.

02:53

Then Manoah said to the angel of Yahweh, What is your name, so that when your words come to pass, we may honor you?

But the angel of Yahweh said to him, Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?

03:06

So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering and offered it on the rock to Yahweh. And he did a wondrous thing while Manoah and his wife looked on.

Indeed, it happened when the flame went up from the altar toward heaven, that the angel of Yahweh went up in the flame of the altar.

And Manoah and his wife saw this, so they fell on their faces to the ground. Now the angel of Yahweh did not appear to Manoah or his wife again.

Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of Yahweh. So Manoah said to his wife,

We will surely die, for we have seen God. But his wife said to him, If Yahweh had desired to put us to death, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from our hands, nor would he have shown us all these things, nor would he have let us hear things like this at this time.

Then the woman gave birth to a son, and named him Samson. And the child grew up, and Yahweh blessed him.

And the spirit of Yahweh began to stir him in Mahanadan, between Zorah and Eshtoel.

Acts 17 Now when they had traveled through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the

Jews. And according to Paul's custom, he went to them, and for three sabbaths reasoned with them from the scriptures, explaining and setting before them that the

Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, This Jesus, whom

I am proclaiming to you, is that Christ. And some of them were persuaded, and joined

Paul and Silas, along with a great multitude of the God -fearing Greeks, and not a few of the leading women.

But the Jews, becoming jealous, taking along some wicked men from the marketplace, and forming a mob, set the city in an uproar.

And attacking the house of Jason, they were seeking to bring them out to the assembly. And when they did not find them, they began dragging

Jason and some brothers before the city authorities, shouting, These men who have upset the world have come here also.

And Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king,

Jesus. And they disturbed the crowd and the city authorities, who heard these things. And when they had received the bond from Jason and the others, they released them.

And the brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. And when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the

Jews. Now these were more noble -minded than those in Thessalonica. For they received the word with great eagerness, examining the scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

Therefore many of them believed, along with not a few prominent Greek women and men.

But when the Jews of Thessalonica found out that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul and Berea also, they came there as well, shaking up and disturbing the crowds.

Then immediately the brothers sent Paul out to go as far as the sea, and Silas and Timothy remained there.

Now those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens, and after receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him as soon as possible, they left.

Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols.

So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God -fearing Gentiles, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be present.

And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. Some were saying, what would this idol babbler wish to say?

Others, he seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities, because he was proclaiming the good news of Jesus and the resurrection.

And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is which you are speaking?

For you are bringing some strange things to our ears, so we want to know what these things mean.

Now all the Athenians and the strangers visiting there used to spend their time in nothing other than telling or hearing something newer.

So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects.

For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription,

To an unknown God. Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you.

07:38

The God who made the world and all things in it, since he is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all people life and breath and all things.

And he made from one man every nation of mankind to inhabit all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek

God, if perhaps they might grope for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

For in him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, for we also are his offspring.

08:22

Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to suppose that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the craft and thought of man.

Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now commanding men that everyone everywhere should repent, because he has fixed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness through a man whom he determined, having furnished proof to all by raising him from the dead.

Now when they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to sneer, but others said,

We shall hear you again concerning this. In this way Paul went out of their midst.

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from Yahweh, saying,

Thus says Yahweh, Stand in the court of the house of Yahweh, and you shall speak to all the cities of Judah who have come to worship in the house of Yahweh all the words that I have commanded you to speak to them.

Do not take away a word. Perhaps they will listen, and everyone will turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the evil which

I am devising to bring against them because of the evil of their deeds. And you will say to them,

Thus says Yahweh, If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law which I have given before you, to listen to the words of my slaves, the prophets, whom

I have been sending to you, rising up early and sending, but you have not listened, then

I will make this house like Shiloh, in this city I will make a curse to all the nations of the earth.

10:15

The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Yahweh.

10:21

Now it happened that when Jeremiah finished speaking all that Yahweh had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying,

10:31

You must surely die. Why have you prophesied in the name of Yahweh, saying, This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be laid waste, without inhabitant?

10:42

And all the people gathered about Jeremiah in the house of Yahweh. When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of Yahweh, and sat in the entrance of the new gate of the house of Yahweh.

10:55

Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the officials and to all the people, saying,

A judgment of death for this man, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard in your hearing.

11:07

Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and to all the people, saying, Yahweh sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.

11:18

So now make good your ways and your deeds, and listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh will relent of the evil demise which he has spoken against you.

11:28

But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do with me as is good and right in your eyes.

11:36

Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves and on this city and on its inhabitants.

11:44

For truly Yahweh has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing. Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets,

11:54

No judgment of death for this man, for he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.

Then some of the elders of the land rose up and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying,

Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. And he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying,

12:13

Thus Yahweh of Hos has said, Zion will be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house will become the high places of a forest.

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear Yahweh and entreat the favor of Yahweh?

12:33

And Yahweh relented of the evil demise which he had spoken against them? But we are committing a great evil against ourselves.

12:41

Indeed, there was also a man who prophesied in the name of Yahweh, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from Kiriath -Jerim, and he prophesied against this city and against this land words similar to all those of Jeremiah.

And king Jehoiakim and all his mighty men and all the officials heard his words. So the king sought to put him to death, but Uriah heard it, and he was afraid and fled and went to Egypt.

Then king Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him went into Egypt.

And they brought Uriah out from Egypt and led him to king Jehoiakim, who struck him down with a sword and cast his dead body into the burial place of the common people.

But the hand of Ahicham the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so that he was not given into the hands of the people to put him to death.

Mark 12. And he began to speak to them in parables. A man planted a vineyard and put a wall around it, and dug a vat under the winepress and built a tower, and rented it out to vine -growers and went on a journey.

And at the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine -growers, in order to receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vine -growers.

And they took him and beat him, and sent him away empty -handed. And again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in the head and treated him

And he sent another, and that one they killed, and so with many others, beating some and killing others.

He had one more, a beloved son. He sent him last of all to them, saying, They will respect my son.

But those vine -growers said to one another, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.

14:30

And they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. What will the owner of the vineyard do?

14:36

He will come and destroy the vine -growers, and will give the vineyard to others. Have you not even read this scripture?

14:43

The stone which the builders rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone. This came about from the

14:49

Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes. And they were seeking to seize him, and yet they feared the crowd, for they understood that he spoke the parable against them.

And so they left him and went away. Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to him, in order to trap him in a statement.

And they came and said to him, Teacher, we know that you are truthful and defer to no one, for you are not partial to any, but teach the way of God in truth.

Is it lawful to pay a tax to Caesar, or not? Shall we pay, or shall we not pay?

15:23

But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at.

15:30

And they brought one. And he said to them, Whose likeness and inscription is this? And they said to him,

Caesar's. And Jesus said to them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are

God's. And they were amazed at him. Then some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Jesus, and began questioning him, saying,

Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves behind a wife, and leaves no child, his brother should marry the wife and raise up a seed for his brother.

There were seven brothers, and the first married a wife, and died, leaving no seed. And the second one married her, and died, leaving behind no seed, and the third likewise.

16:14

And so all seven left no seed. Last of all, the woman died also. In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be?

For all seven had married her. Jesus said to them, Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the

Scriptures, nor the power of God? For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

But regarding the fact that the dead are raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how

God spoke to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are greatly mistaken. And when one of the scribes came and heard them arguing, he recognized that he had answered them well, and asked him,

What commandment is the foremost of all? Jesus answered, The foremost is,

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. And you shall love the Lord your

God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is,

17:21

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. And the scribes said to him,

17:28

Write, teacher, you have truly stated that he is one, and there is no one else besides him.

17:34

And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.

17:45

And when Jesus saw that he had answered thoughtfully, he said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God.

17:52

After that, no one would dare to ask him any more questions. And Jesus began to say, as he taught in the temple,

How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David? David himself said in the

Holy Spirit, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies beneath your feet.

18:12

David himself calls him Lord. So in what sense is he his son? And the large crowd enjoyed listening to him.

18:20

And in his teaching he was saying, Beware of the scribes who want to walk around in long robes, and want respectful greetings in the marketplaces, and best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, who devour widows' houses, and for appearance's sake offer long prayers.

18:37

These will receive greater condemnation. And he sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the crowd was putting money into the treasury, and many rich people were putting in large sums.

And a poor widow came and put in two lepta, which amount to a quadrants. And calling his disciples to him, he said to them,

18:58

Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all those putting money into the treasury.

For they all put in out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty put in all she owned, all she had to live on.
