Are we in hell right now on this earth?

Sometimes, people today argue that hell is just on this earth, or that we are in hell right now.

However, the Bible does not teach that we are in hell right now, or that everyone on earth is suffering in hell

presently.

Instead, it teaches that hell is a present and future location for all those who do not believe in

Jesus.

God only sends people to hell who justly deserve His wrath for eternity.

To be delivered from this wrath, we must believe in Jesus, as John 3 .36 talks about.

Hell is not merely the grave, our present suffering on this earth, or anything like that.

It is a literal place where the unbelievers suffer forever.

The following are just a few reasons why the Bible identifies hell as a separate place of existence away

from this earth.

First, people will be in hell for eternity, but they will not be on earth for eternity.

The eternality of hell is taught about in Matthew 18, Matthew 25, Hebrews

6, and numerous other references.

However, people will not be on earth for eternity, as James 4 says.

Secondly, everyone is tormented in hell, but everyone on earth is not in conscious

torment right now.

The torment in hell is talked about in Matthew 18, Matthew 13, Matthew 24, Matthew

25, and numerous other references in the New Testament.

The idea that everyone is actually having bliss on earth or not being tormented on earth is

found, for example, in James 5 .5.

Third, hell is absence from the presence of God, as Matthew 25 .46 and 2

Thessalonians 1 .9 talk about.

That's one characteristic of hell.

But earth still has the presence of God through the Holy Spirit who convicts the world of sin, as John

16 talks about, and dwells in believers who live on the earth, as Ephesians 1 .13 and

Ephesians 4 .30 talk about.

So basically, the earth is not absent from the presence of God.

Fourth, hell is described as a place of fire, as

Matthew 3, 5, and 7 talk about.

But the earth, for example, has many cold places on it.

You can't just go to Antarctica or spend a winter in North Dakota.

So if you think, unfortunately, that the earth is the worst it could be or

that the earth is hell, you're unfortunately mistaken.

And I encourage you to invest the claims of Jesus, to place your trust in Jesus, and

do not rely upon your good works or anything good you've done, but trust the person of Jesus Christ.
