Teach Us to Number Our Days Part 1 — Keith Daniel

Now I'm going to read a lot of verses, so don't go back and forth, because you'll just be finding a place around three verses ahead. And you know these verses, but I want you to listen to them in your heart, not in your head.

The Brevity and Frailty of Human Life

You want to put that down? There. You see, that's right. No one gets a credit for that. Hebrews 9 .27 says, It is appointed unto men once. In Ecclesiastes, chapter 3, verse 1, we read to everything there is a season and a time, a purpose.

Time to be born, God says. There are full summer, autumn, and winter. In the spring, the flower buds. Life. In the autumn, a sad, wounded flower. The world seems to have passed. In Job 14, verse 1, a man that is born of a woman is of few days.

He cometh forth like a flower in a brief moment. This moment called life. That's all we have. Don't doubt it. That's all you've got. We'll all swiftly cry what Isaiah 38, verse 12 says. Mine age is departed.

Literally in the Hebrew. Psalm 89. What man is he that liveth? Ecclesiastes 8, verse 8. 19. All turn to dust again. Ecclesiastes 3, verse 20. And the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Psalm 90, verse 10.

The days of our years are threescore years and ten. Generally, many nations it doesn't reach beyond 35. Do you know that? The malnutrition. The diseases. Reach in their millions past the age of six. The days of our years are ten, God says.

That's generally, of course. Days of our year at 70. And if by reason of strength, they be fourscore years. If somehow through privilege, the common sense and not. If by reason of strength, you could go past what God says most people will never go past.

Yet is there strength and sorrow. If you go beyond 70, God says it's going to not be easy. My mother is 91. My mother is a remarkable woman. Actually, she's so remarkable, look at that butt. A wonderful, wonderful person.

Personal Stories of Aging and Mortality

There was a day, not easy for my mother, trust me. Never forget when we said you can't drive anymore. She wasn't ignorant. Don't you dare. Think of her. She hid the keys. She parked the car somewhere.

Ridiculously far. We're now. That's mother. But mother, when she went past a certain age, she began to. This day, both in the 90s, with one of these trolleys, you know. They were hospitalized. So I said, how will I be each other?

It's so remarkable. And the hospital. One day she was. I said to the lady, this wonderful place. And I said, now, listen sister. Every single thing in sight, there's nothing for you to fall. Oh, they phoned me.

I'm a thousand miles away. Your mother's in hospital. Oh, thank you. My mother. God says. 90 verse 12, so teach us. 39 verse 4, Lord, make me to know my name. The measure of my days. What it is that I may know.

How frail I am. Literally, how short my time is. Teach us to number our days. Our hearts to wisdom. To wisdom, God says. He was a French intellectual in the day of intellectualism. That's a script across Europe.

Wealth, Skepticism, and the Fear of Death

Okay, he was aristocracy. He was what we would call a billionaire. A multi-billionaire in today's terms. That's why he had a voice. So wealthy that they put him into the class of one of the five richest men on earth.

Above royalty and monarchies. That's why they feared. Intellectual. Wealth. The wealth. Spent his life. Possible viability that there could be a God. So he paved the way for Darwinism. Error. I can just find one.

So he read and he wrote this book. And by the way, you've seen most. Black leather. The flames of Bibles. Intellectual. You go and tell him. You can see. The existence of God. The possible being of God.

Or the viability of God having created. Well, we don't go into all of it. But. But now this is a shock. Voltaire suddenly found out he had six months to live. He was being given more money by Voltaire than the royal family could give him.

So that's why the greatest position acknowledged on earth in his lifetime was Voltaire's personal position. Money. The best there was. With a team. But. Said to his personal physician doctor. Eventually.

Not in that moment. Looked at him in despair. As he wept. They say. You could hear the screams. In fear. They could hear Voltaire preaching. But. I was attending one of the services where I had two weeks.

So the man eventually said to his doctor. He said, sir, I'm a virgin. Fly me to America. They said, it doesn't matter. Money means nothing. I looked at him and. One day I understood. But the gift. Eternal.

Eternal Life Through Jesus Christ

Death. It's a state. That isn't. But the free gift of God, says the literal translation. Is eternal life. Through Jesus Christ. Oh, Lord. Now. He said, I. The verses of the holy God. Hebrews 9 .27. You see, I began the sermon with these words.

It is appointed. If that's an appointment. You see the head of your head. God says. He's sovereign. He's God. He's eternal. Don't try and. Understand him. Just accept. And with the concept of God. I would be a hypocrite in the purport of God.

If I stopped there. But. After this. After this. Judgment. Eat with. In chapter 4 verse 12. Prepare thyself. God says to you. And me. To meet. In Romans. 8 verse 1. God promises. Condemnation. No judgment.

Christ Jesus. The wages of sin is death. Yes. But the gift of God is eternal life. Through Jesus Christ. Our Lord. God promises. Psalm 49 verse 15. God. Will redeem. Ransom them. God says. From the power of the grave.

I will redeem them from death. For as much as you know that you will not redeem. Through faith. Being justified freely by grace. Through faith. Come to God. With the promise of the blood of Jesus Christ.

God is unclaimed. Not only my own righteousness which is of the Lord. But that which is through the faith of Christ. The righteousness which is of God. By faith. Power. For that reason we say. Through faith.

Love yourself. It's the gift of God. It's the gift of God. To him that worketh not. Believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly. His faith is counted to him for righteousness. In one moment God declares you righteous.

Cleanseth us. From all sin. Romans 3 verse 25. 24 and 25. The last enemy. Is death. Romans 15 verse 26. You have to face this enemy. God calls death an enemy. Whether you're saved. Or unsaved. Even though you might have to face suffering.

Which is why it's an enemy. No matter how you have to die. While you can face it with God's peace. It passes over understanding. Concerning facing God. Fertility. You can actually long for death. Precious.

Christ’s Victory Over Death

In the sight of the Lord. Oh yes. I've stood with many people that have died. I don't know why God required that of me. His heart cries out. Grave. Where is my victory? 1 Corinthians 15 verse 55. The sting of death is sin.

That's what makes. The conscience of our Lord. But Hebrews 2 verse 9. Tells us that he. By the grace of God should taste death. For every man. Would face death. And that through death. This Savior. That he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Would face death for every man. That he through death. Hebrews 2 verse 14. Even the death of the cross. Philippians 2 verse 8. He might deliver them. Who through fear of death. Were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

There is fear. We know. Do not say. Not some emotional thing going on. No, no, no. Just a consciousness. Yesterday. I couldn't look at anybody in this earth. And honestly say without lying. I know I'm going to heaven.

But today I can. I can look at the whole world. And without any hypocrisy or any fear. I've been judged by God. I couldn't say it yesterday. That's the witness of the Holy Spirit. Not feelings. A conscious.

In a consciousness. In your inner conscience. That God gives it. You know. We've passed from death unto life. We know. And it saved your soul. And won't bear witness of your spirit. And leads you to doubt and fear.

And that you might still go to hell. No way, sir. Oh, I believe doubts can come in sickness. And when mental fatigue comes through. And long to long. I believe that things can happen to our mind. That we need.

Doubt, Dying Faith, and Christian Assurance

Like Pilgrim's progress. You know. When Pilgrim's dying. And going through the river. Ah. To the other side. There were the angels. The pallbearers. Waiting to escort him. But he had to go through the river.

And so doubts come to him. Oh. John Bundy was wonderful. He kind of knew just what people would face. And let's face it. I've stood with many godly people. That as they're dying. They need someone like.

Hopeful. Hmm. Thank God. When you've got a friend like that. And he. Just whispered from the Bible. Reassuring. What God had promised him. As he heard the promises. Peace flooded his heart. As he died.

And went to. Yes. So we're going to have to whisper it. Even at death. That through death. Hebrews 2 verse 14. Even the death. Of the cross. Philippians 2 verse 8. He might deliver them. Who through. Fear of death.

Were all their lifetime. Subject to bondage. That's fear. Hebrews 2 verse 8. We know. That we pass from death unto life. God's word says. John says. In 1 John 3 verse 14. There is. No. Condemnation. To them.

Which are in Jesus Christ. Romans 8 verse 1. That's what our. Hope. That's an inner consciousness. An inner. Awareness. That you don't doubt it. You know. You will not face eternal judgment. Once you've been saved.

Death as the Final Enemy

River of life. I love that word. You won't find it in the new translations. Blessing. Death still is the last enemy. With the man of God. Leader of many missions. Not only one. He was so capable. And he was so strong.

In his personality. One look. And he ran. When we were young. Missionaries. Didn't have to say a word. Just one look. We all just ran. Yes. He was a great leader. And had a great influence in Africa. Across Africa.

To many multitudes of people. All over the world. But. He had a heart attack. And I went to the hospital. And I couldn't believe how a man of such strength. Have authority. He said these words to me. Keith.

The Bible says. Death is. A wonderful thing. Brother Keith. Launched his theological seminar. In Africa. One of the largest. Universities. Longer than any other deed. But his mother. Is a God. She had been a missionary.

In Africa. For many years. And she always attended me. My meetings. From when I was a young fellow. Full of fire. So. The years go by. I go to that town. And there's a little. Letter on the pulpit. A little note.

Groaning for Redemption and Release

Frail. So I went. What in two years. Was left with I. So I. The Bible speaks of a time. When we become conscious. That we are prisoners. Prisoners in the earth. God says. Which long for death. But cometh not.

That God warns us. Romans 8 .22. We know that the whole creation. Grows. And. Traveys. Millions. Right now. You wouldn't want to be in there. In there. We are. Also. Which have the first. Roots of the spirit.

Even we ourselves. Grown. In ourselves. Waiting. For the adoption. That's the deliverance. With the redemption. Of our earthly. Come. Only let go of this life. You don't think so. You'll find. Ecclesiastes speaks of.

Time. To gather stones. Of time. A time. To die. But. There must be. This also. A time. To be. Beauty. Notary. You're tired. People. At home. They make. It's really. Lovely place. And I've. Preached. There many times.

In the one church. At home. Said. Every single little. Use. Christmas rock. The man and woman. I lived with. Godly people. But they had a father. He was. In his eighties. Close to ninety. With many millions of people.

The Gospel in the Midst of Public Gatherings

In South Africa. The French. Dutch. German. Now. They advertised. In a very wonderful way. The one meeting. This town. Has never had before. A breakfast. To get another bit. Of food. A meal. You see. Afterwards.

You have to listen. To the gospel. So. Of course. The whole town comes. Everyone. Was there. The place was open. All day. It works. With English. East. North. Africa. Many of them. Don't know how to say a word.

They're European. But they don't know how to say a word. In English. They're very limited anyway. So. He decided. Well the whole town. Wanted to go. And go. And go. Even though. It's going to be. Enos.

That means. Defense. Atta. The enemy's language. Since the war. War. It never stopped. By the way. Something like.
