#ThisIsWhy: Victory Without Repentance
2 views
As Christians fighting abortion, we must constantly be asking ourselves: “What does true victory look like?” What if Roe V Wade was overturned tomorrow? What if Pro-Life laws succeeded in regulating abortion out of existence? It’s our position that abortion is something much deeper than the hand that commits the act. Therefore, our main aim should be on more than just passing laws so that the lives of the unborn are preserved. Our nation needs new hearts that desire God and demand his laws of righteousness to protect the innocent and defenseless. You’ll have to watch this week’s edition of #ThisisWhy to find out what a Christian vision for victory over this great evil really looks like.
- 00:02
- This is why abortion is still legal. Victory without repentance. As the pro -life community fights against abortion, they like to claim victories along the way.
- 00:11
- Their idea of victory is usually boiled down to one end. Let's stop abortions. Whether it's by overturning the courts or implementing laws that slowly get abortion providers shut down, that's the end goal.
- 00:21
- Here's the question. What good is getting our nation to stop with the action of killing children if in the process their hearts don't get turned back to God and repentance?
- 00:29
- Of course we should fight for the legislation that preserves the lives of these children and restrains the evil that's been committed against them for almost five decades now.
- 00:37
- That's the role of the magistrate. But is God more concerned with external compliance to a law like you shall not murder?
- 00:44
- Or does he also want obedience from the heart to his commandments? Jesus says that it's not enough to abstain from the act of assault against your neighbor if your thoughts, plans, and attitudes aren't also free from violence too.
- 00:56
- Christians are required to do what God originally intended. Heartfelt obedience, not merely external conformity.
- 01:03
- You see, true obedience comes from a heart that's right with God. That's what it means to be a Christian. God gives us the ability to keep his commandments and so we want to obey him.
- 01:12
- The thought of killing our own children should give us such a deep pain of conviction that we're disgusted by the fact that we even entertained it.
- 01:19
- It should drive us to the cross, where the true execution has already taken place for sinners. Even if abortion is outlawed in America tomorrow, if it doesn't come as a result of nationwide repentance and an acknowledgment from all of us that as a nation we've sinned against God, then it won't be a victory.
- 01:35
- It'll be a failure. A failure to acknowledge the fact that hatred for these children won't be driven out of anybody's heart unless God himself causes us to see our sin, be disgusted by it, and finally turn to him as the only one who can heal our land as Christians.
