What is the Difference Between LORD and Lord?

Everybody's choosy about something. It might be your favorite snack. Two scoops of Rocky Road, please. Your style. Those earrings look amazing on you. Or the things you like to do with your best friend.

You can be choosy when it comes to getting a COVID -19 vaccine, too. If you're thinking about getting an updated vaccine, there's more than one type available. You can find out more at wedovaccines .com.

Hi there, I'm Dr. John White, WebMD's Chief Medical Officer and host of the Health Discovered Podcast, where we bring you fascinating stories and unique perspectives, like our recent episode on how heart failure can particularly affect women in Black and Hispanic communities.

We've documented it time and time again. She was young, she was Black, she was a woman. No one expected her to look like the face of heart failure. When you don't look like what someone expects, that's going to lead to delays in diagnosis.

We all have to take this constellation of symptoms, treat it the same each and every time, whether it's a young person, a Black person, a woman. If someone presents to me with my heart racing and feeling winded, I need to get an echocardiogram 100 of the time, regardless.

In some translations of the Bible, people ask the question, what is the difference between LORD, all caps, or GOD, in all caps, versus LORD with a capital L in lowercase letters, or G for God that's capitalized in lowercase letters.

There's these different spellings in several of the more literal or formal translations of the Bible, your King James, New King James, ESV, others, New American Standard. When we look at them, there is a significance in that in the Old Testament.

Jehovah, Adonai, and Elohim in the Old Testament

It helps us to understand which of the three names for God are used. If you see in all capital letters LORD or GOD, that signifies that this is the word we would call Jehovah. This is the special name for God, that self-existent God that is the one that we think of when we speak of God.

Now LORD, where the letters are lowercase, means Adonai. This is the idea that can be used for men as well as God, and this is the idea you see that He is the Lord of everything. The third where you see God with a capital G in lowercase letters is the word Elohim.

This is used only once to refer to men, but it always refers to God that He's the master, that He's in charge.
