When Someone Has Committed Bulverism

Greetings, fellow Internet user! If you're watching this, then I'm sorry to say that you've engaged in the logical fallacy known as Vulvarism. I'll save you the trouble of looking it up on UrbanDictionary .com and give you the definition that wasn't written by an intoxicated college student at 3am.

Vulvarism is the idea that you can outright dismiss another person's arguments by simply assuming they're wrong to begin with, and then immediately explaining why they came to be so wrong by attacking them personally.

Okay, well that definition is fine and dandy, but what in the cannon fodder build-sucking heck does that even look like? I'm so glad I asked! Let's do a little demonstration, shall we?

And in the blue corner, coming all the way from his parentally-funded underground dwelling is... Mr. Kaa! And in the red corner, all the way from the head offices of the Neighborhood Watch, it's... Susan from the Parish Council!

Watch carefully as these two kaiju of cognitive dissonance attempt to out-crazy one another. The subject matter of today's fight is abortion. And that's the bell. Mr. Chubb comes out swinging. Abortion is murder!

That's a strong attack from Mr. Chubb! Let's see what Susan does in retaliation.

No uterus, no opinion, mad baby!

Oh, that's a wicked left hook from Susan! Okay, boomer! Susan from the Parish Council has gone nuclear and destroyed all of civilization in her unrestrained hyper-feminist rage! But I have one question for you.

Did you recognize the bulverism in real time? Let's recap. When Mr. Chubb said that abortion is murder, that is what you might call a conversation starter. Susan, instead of engaging with the statement, immediately decided that Mr. Chubb was wrong based upon his immutable characteristics by stating.

No uterus, no opinion, mad baby!

Susan implied that Mr. Chubb couldn't be right because he's a man. Mr. Chubb, however, retaliated just as poorly when he said Okay, boomer! He implied that Susan couldn't be right because she's simply older than himself.

Neither reply or counter-reply contributed anything of substance to the argument. Rather, it simply devolved into a glorified temper tantrum. In the wise words of C .S. Lewis, you must show that a man is wrong before you start explaining why he is wrong.
