On Saturday, July 13th, President Donald Trump, while campaigning in Pennsylvania for a second term, was nearly assassinated by a gunman when the bullet caught the top of his right ear.
He moved his head in a split second as the gun was fired, and by the mercy of God, Trump was spared.
Unfortunately there followed a lot of scripture twisting on social media. Internet personality Jack Posobiec said, the bullets were fired at 6 .11pm,
Ephesians 6 .11, which says, put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
First, chapter and verse markers are not divinely inspired. Second, that verse has nothing to do with dodging actual bullets.
The armor of God consists of putting on the breastplate of God's righteousness, the shoes of his gospel, the shield of faith in Christ, the sword of the spirit, which is
God's word. And I hate to break it to you, that armor does not characterize Donald Trump. Just days later at the
Republican National Convention, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell repeated this twisting of scripture. Well sort of.
Did you know that President Trump was shot on 6 .11? And do you know that Ephesians chapter number six, verse number 11 says, be strong in the
Lord and in his mighty power. Uh, no, it does not say that. Praise God that Trump lived that day, but God is not pleased with treating his word like a fortune cookie.
Far better would it be for a nation to fear God and know his word. As Daniel 2 .21 says, he changes times and seasons.
He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding, when we understand the text.
