Welcome to another installment of Fighting for the
00:15
Faith here on YouTube. If you've ever heard a preacher, pastor, pastrix, yeah there's no such thing as the second one, but if you've ever heard somebody from a
00:26
Christian pulpit or stage nowadays, I guess they're stages, say to you, oh the
00:31
Bible teaches that death and life, they're in the power, you know, that they're in the power of the tongue, and so therefore you can speak your future into existence either positively or negatively, go ahead and hit the subscribe button and don't forget to ring the bell down below.
00:51
You've been deceived, that's not at all what Proverbs 20, 18 actually, Proverbs 18 is saying, and we're gonna demonstrate that using two techniques for rightly understanding
01:02
God's Word. Now oftentimes I talk about the three primary rules for sound biblical exegesis are context, context, and context.
01:11
Well there's more than just that when it comes to rightly understanding God's Word. Now context is gonna help a lot, but what happens when you have a passage that is difficult or a little bit vague and you're not sure what it means?
01:25
Well then there's another way in which you can work through this, and that is that you find clear passages, clear passages, because here's another basic rule of hermeneutics, clear passages always, always govern unclear passages, and in order for a doctrine to be an actual biblical doctrine, you need passages that clearly teach the doctrine in question.
01:50
You know, for instance, you know, since I keep harping on this, you know, if you want to understand who's qualified to be a pastor in Christ's Church, this is his church, not ours, then you look at passages that pertain to what are the requirements for somebody to be a pastor.
02:09
Husband of one wife, hospitable, good character, you know, above reproach, able to teach, is, you know, instructed in sound doctrine, and able to rebuke those who contradict it, see like Titus chapter 1 or 1st and 2nd
02:24
Timothy. And so those are your clear passages that tell you who's qualified to be a pastor, and you'll note that all of the clear passages regarding who should be a pastor all refer to men.
02:36
Yeah, so those are clear passages. The passage in Galatians chapter 3 that says in Christ there is neither
02:42
Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, that's not talking about the pastoral office at all, or pastors, or who's qualified to be a pastor, so that passage has nothing to do with it, so you can't use that to wipe out the other ones.
02:57
And so clear passages always govern unclear, and they have to be on topic. You kind of get the idea.
03:03
And so what we're gonna be doing is we're heading down to Glory City Church, and Catherine Runalla is the vision casting leader there, and we're gonna be listening to a portion of her message titled,
03:15
Speak Life Over Your Circumstances, and she's gonna twist Proverbs 18, and so we'll clean things up, and some of the implications of what she says are actually devastatingly awful.
03:30
I mean, this is a woman who is deceived and a deceiver. Avoid her at all costs is the best way
03:36
I could put it, but let's whirl her up and we'll get going. Here we go. Speak Life Over Your Circumstances, Catherine Runalla.
03:44
Here we go. And we're talking about what it looks like to speak life.
03:53
I've been sharing on this for a while now, but I really am excited about the testimonies that I'm hearing about what's happening when people are being very, very intentional with their words.
04:06
Proverbs. Yes, speak life. Gotta be intentional with your words. Apparently you can create your future with your words.
04:13
Chapter 18, verse 20 says this, a man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth and the produce of his lips.
04:22
From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Verse 21, death and life are in the power of the tongue.
04:33
You know, you see, there it is. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, so therefore you can speak to your future and create, you know, life by being intentional.
04:43
This is called the Word of Faith heresy, by the way. Now, let's take a look at the passage in question.
04:50
And so we'll put it in context, and you'll note that by putting in context, it's not gonna help us all that much.
04:57
So Proverbs 18, I'll start at verse 17. Here's what it says, the one who states his case first seems right until the other comes and examines him.
05:08
Verse 18, the lot puts an end to quarrels and decides between powerful contenders.
05:14
A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city, and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.
05:20
So you note that the context itself is talking about, you know, you could make a case that these are different ways.
05:27
I mean, quarrels often happen via words and things like that, and people being offended by what you say.
05:34
So you kind of get the idea of where we're at with these words by the time we get to verse 21.
05:41
From the fruit of a man's mouth, his stomach is satisfied. He is satisfied by the yield of his lips.
05:47
And then verse 21, the big one, death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
05:54
Now, immediately sit there and go, huh? What does that mean?
06:00
I mean, just looking at it by itself in context, it's a little bit clear as mud.
06:06
And so this is where it's gonna help to remember that in order for a doctrine to be true, for instance, like the deity of Christ, there are clear passages that say that Jesus is
06:18
God. He is the Son of God in human flesh. So his deity is established by clear passages of Scripture.
06:27
This one's not so clear. So what do you do with it? Well, you look for other passages that deal with the use of the tongue, and how or how not to,
06:38
Scripture gives instruction, use your tongue for particular things. Now, I think one of the clearest passages that you can go to to help you regarding the use of your tongue, but there are others, is
06:50
James chapter 3. James chapter 3, and I'll start at verse 1. You can kind of see what this is talking about.
06:57
Now, not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
07:03
Now note, teachers make their living with their mouths, with their lips. So we're dealing kind of with the same topic.
07:11
For we all stumble in many ways, and if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he's a perfect man able also to bridle his whole body.
07:18
If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well.
07:25
So look at ships. Also, though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.
07:37
So also, the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
07:43
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire. And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness.
07:52
The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
08:01
For every kind of beast and bird of reptile and sea creature can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue.
08:11
It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our
08:16
Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
08:22
And now you can see that what James is keying in on are the same themes that we were reading in Proverbs 18, and that's kind of the idea.
08:30
So from the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things not ought be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
08:39
Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives? Or can a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
08:48
So you get the idea here, is that what Scripture is warning about is how you are using your tongue.
08:56
Are you using it in a way to lie about, to slander people? Are you using it to tear people down and and to curse and swear and, you know, and then at the same time turn around and sing praises to God and see death and life?
09:12
These are concepts that are clearly laid out in James 3, and so that helps us using
09:18
Scripture to interpret Scripture, using the cross -references to see what's going on. Now, in order for the idea that your words create your future, that's not what
09:29
Proverbs 18 says. Instead, Proverbs 18 is, again, it's kind of a vague passage.
09:35
In order for the idea that your words create reality, your words create the future, in order for that to be true, you need passages that actually say that and spell it out.
09:46
And note here, Jesus never taught this. Neither did the
09:51
Apostles. None of the Apostles ever talked about the importance of creating reality with your words.
09:57
By the way, that's called magic or witchcraft. And so, you know, this is a problem.
10:03
Now, God himself, he spoke the world into existence, but we're not gods, we're creatures.
10:11
And so one of the unstated, kind of hidden doctrines of the Word of Faith heresy is the tacit belief that we are little gods, that we are little deities.
10:24
And watch what Rinala does. I'm gonna back this up just a little bit, so that you can hear the context, and then watch where she immediately goes, and you can see just how dangerous this teaching is.
10:36
Death and life are in the power of the tongue. You know, you eat the fruit of your words.
10:44
You can create the world around you with your words. You say what? You can create the world around you with your words.
10:51
No biblical text says that, and Proverbs 18 definitely does not. What are you talking about?
10:56
The Bible tells us that we are created in the image of the one who created the world with his words.
11:02
He said, light be, and it was. And he tells us that death and life are in the power of our tongue, that we can eat the fruit of our lips.
11:12
So if we're grumbling and complaining. So note, she said, God said, light be, and there was.
11:18
So we're created in the image of God. We're little deities. Therefore, whammo, blammo, be careful what you say.
11:27
You know, whatever you do, don't sing that song. Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener.
11:34
Yeah. Cause you know, bad things will happen to you. So note, she said it, but came, she came really close to it, but didn't quite spell it out in its fullness.
11:49
She's teaching that we're little gods, that we create reality with our words, but that's not what
11:55
Proverbs 18 is teaching. Moaning and groaning. We're not changing anything for good, but actually establishing things in the negative that we're not looking to have.
12:07
Yeah. So whatever you do, don't engage in negative confession. You'll create disasters in your life.
12:13
Romans 4 17, we've read this scripture before, says, God who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.
12:25
Now again, note, we'll take a look at the passage in question.
12:30
Romans 4, Romans 4 17, out of context, which is a key that something's going wrong here.
12:39
So as it is written, I've made you the father of many nations and who God in whom he believed who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.
12:50
Now note here, it says, God, not you, not me, not
12:57
Paul, not human beings, but God calls into existence the things that do not exist.
13:05
Paul is not saying that this is a power that we have.
13:11
We Christians pray. We ask God and beseech God and petition God for help and always saying, not my will, but your will be done.
13:21
But word of faithers, yeah, they don't ask God if it's thy will. They just decree and declare a thing.
13:28
They speak life. They intentionally use their words to create a positive future.
13:35
But again, note Romans 4 17 says, God, not you, God calls the things that are not as though they are.
13:44
He's the one who calls into existence the things that do not exist. That same
13:50
God, our God, calls what doesn't exist as though it already does.
13:56
And he's looking for us to begin to operate in his ways, his way.
14:01
No, he's, so he's, no text says this, by the way. I love the pose here.
14:07
Yeah, no text says this, Catherine, that God's waiting for us to learn how to operate in his ways and call into existence the things that are not.
14:15
Romans 4 17 isn't saying, therefore you go and call the things that are not as though they are. In fact, let's take a look at the passage itself.
14:24
So Romans 4, in order to get the context, remember context, context, context, three rules.
14:30
Romans 4 13, the promise to Abraham and to his offspring, singular by the way, that he would be the heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.
14:41
When you look at the context of Romans 4, Romans 4 is talking about, you know, salvation by grace through faith alone.
14:49
So for if the adherence of the law, for if it is the adherence of the law who are to be heirs, faith is null, the promise is void.
14:55
For the law brings wrath, and where there is no law there is no transgression. That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all of his offspring, not only to the adherence of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
15:13
As it is written, I have made you the father of many nations in the presence of God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.
15:22
So in hope, Abraham believed against hope that he should become the father of many nations as he had been told.
15:30
So you'll note that even Abraham didn't call into existence the things that did not exist and speak positive, life -filled words in order for Isaac to be born.
15:41
Instead, Romans 4 is teaching us that Abraham trusted and believed the promises of God because God is the one who calls things into existence, not us.
15:53
So what Catherine Rinalda is doing is teaching us to behave as if we're little deities, which by the way, it was the serpent who said to Eve that on the day that you eat of the fruit you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
16:06
And so Catherine Rinalda thinks she's a little deity. She ain't, but she thinks she is because she's operating in the principles of God.
16:16
And so she claims God wills for us to do these things, but no biblical text says that.
16:21
Higher than our ways? His thoughts are higher than our thoughts? So we need to get with his ways.
16:28
Yeah, that's not what the Bible says. And you'll notice she's teaching a man -made doctrine, and she's twisting
16:35
God's Word to teach it. Yeah, doesn't take long in that little teaching for her to get right to the nubbins of the problem right there, but that's false doctrine.
16:45
So Proverbs 1821 does not teach you that your words create reality, neither does
16:50
Romans 417 say that either. Catherine Rinalda, she's teaching, you know, this is witchcraft.
16:58
This is a satanic and demonic doctrine.
