Jesus is King. Living in that victory. Matthew 1:18-25 Rejecting Christ as King.

00:24: Sorry for the late start. I'm sure most of you have already started your day Um But hopefully some of you are are still around and able to join me
00:34: For a little bit of bible study this morning and fellowship um and prayer time so Yeah Looking forward to some some folks jumping on if if you would like to talk about anything if you have any questions about the bible um
00:53: I don't have all the answers, but I would love to research. I would love to try to answer your questions and and talk to you about the things that you have on your mind and Questions you have about scripture about church, um things that's going on in in your life that we can relate to scripture love to be able to do that and spend time with you the floor is always yours and so Uh chime in jump in and we'll start what we're doing and we'll have a conversation

02:01: I like to call this truth and love Uh, because I was reading ephesians and and saw ephesians chapter 4 verse 15
02:09: Where paul is telling us to to speak the truth and love Um, we are to grow up in all aspects into him who is the head even christ and sometimes you know we we focus on one thing or another but um and and we should because we want to dive deep and We want to learn and grow and learn about who god is and who he says he is and who we are
02:30: So we want to dive deep into all his subjects And uh
02:36: And we want to share that god wants us to share that with each other Uh pray for one another share god's word with one another share the gospel with one another
02:45: And but when we do that paul is telling us to speak the truth and love and that's my goal And I hope that I always do that Um, not just on the video
02:53: Um, but in person as well wherever wherever I am. I want to be consistent and be the same person
03:02: Everywhere that I I speak truth and I share truth and whatever i'm doing.
03:08: I do it in love So that's where where I get truth and love is from ephesians chapter 4 verse 15.
03:15: Um The title if you happen to see the title that I posted um
03:24: We're we're in the series of jesus is king I always Say that and I picked that up from One of the earlier videos that I did a long time ago
03:35: Um, and so I started saying it because it's so relevant. It's so true But I speak of jesus being king and so therefore we should live in the victory of jesus being king
03:47: Um, not in not in any type of victory that we've won but living in in the victory that christ won.
03:54: Um, so Victory is won And so we just got to live in it and we need to know from scripture how to live
04:00: In that victory that that jesus is king and the best place to do that is
04:08: Well all of scripture, of course uh, but one great place to do that is
04:13: I feel like matthew because matthew one of the goals of matthew is to reveal to his readers that jesus
04:21: Is the long -awaited king the the anointed one the one that they were expecting
04:27: Um, so he wanted to share and teach that jesus is king And so as we pull out from matthew
04:34: Him showing us through through the life of christ that that jesus is king Hopefully we can learn how to to live in that victory that he won
04:45: And i'm just going to go through matthew and and pull it pull out um where matthew is is pointing to us that jesus is king and see if we can uh, god will reveal how
04:57: How we should live in that victory that jesus is king. So Jesus is king.
05:03: We should go live in that victory and then um Kind of the subject that that I saw in today's verses.
05:11: Um Was rejecting christ as king Um, that's not what happened in these verses
05:22: But it it happened a lot that jesus and and God have been rejected over and over again as king and so The verses that we're going to look at today is matthew chapter 1 verses 18 through 25
05:41: And uh, let me read those to you And we're going to be looking at how matthew is teaching us that that jesus is king and the thoughts
05:52: That I want to share with you are regarding rejecting christ as king now those thoughts
05:59: Um, i'm intentionally going to make those points second to last Because I don't want to end on a negative note.
06:07: We're going to end on a positive note But we want to look at um, jesus being rejected as king
06:16: Matthew chapter 1 verses 18 through 25 if you have your bibles if you have an app, um, if you want to follow along that'd be terrific and uh, and i'm
06:27: I didn't print out the verses so I'm going to be flipping back and forth a good bit. Hopefully the pages don't make too much noise on the microphone
06:35: But we'll see what happens and we'll take our time matthew chapter 1 verses 18 through 25
06:42: Matthew tells us now the birth of jesus christ was as follows When his mother mary had been betrothed to joseph before they came together
06:51: She was found to be with child by the holy spirit and joseph her husband being a righteous man
06:57: And not wanting to disgrace her desire to put her away secretly But when he had considered this behold an angel the lord appeared to him in a dream saying joseph
07:09: Son of david do not be afraid to take mary as your wife For that which has been conceived in her is of the holy spirit
07:18: And she will bear his son and you shall call his name jesus For it is he who will save his people from their sins
07:27: Now all this took place that what was spoken by the lord through the prophet might be fulfilled saying
07:34: Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son and they shall call his name emmanuel
07:40: Which translated means god with us? And joseph arose from his sleep and he did as the angel the lord commanded him and took her as his wife
07:49: And kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a son and he called his name jesus
07:59: It seems like um, not just in in these verses but To to understand what matthew is is pointing out to us
08:07: Um in the verses that we looked at last time in the last video on this subject and these verses right here
08:14: You want to talk about the the main character of the story? Um, of course jesus is the overall main character of the whole bible
08:23: He's the main character here. And of course we have mary. She's she's a main character but it seems as if In these verses and the verses before that that matthew was is bringing out
08:36: Um and bringing up to the surface joseph a little bit more and it's showing us him being more of the main character here in these verses and Why why is matthew bringing out joseph?
08:52: As as more of the main character he speaking of joseph and joseph's count
08:59: What happened to joseph in in this? um story of christ um
09:06: We have the genealogy In luke and we also have a genealogy in matthew. The genealogy in matthew is is of who?
09:15: It is of uh joseph Verse 16 says unto jacob was born joseph the husband of mary to whom was born jesus who was called christ
09:27: This genealogy is is of joseph And then then verses 18 through 25
09:32: We we hear the account of what happened to joseph where he was. He was a righteous man. He was
09:38: Um, you know, there's many other things that he could have done um with mary or to mary because of her being pregnant and and them not being um
09:49: Married and had been together But he was he was a kind man and he was going to put her away
09:56: Um secretly so that nothing happened to her um Because he loved her and he was a righteous man.
10:02: He was a kind man Angel come to him I told him what was going on that that the the child was of the holy spirit
10:14: And so therefore joseph took went on to take mary as his wife And and didn't touch her
10:21: Until she had given birth to jesus. They called his name jesus So why why is joseph the main character here?
10:31: Um I think matthew is trying to to Show us that jesus is king through this this life of joseph.
10:40: And of course Looking at the genealogy of joseph. Who do we find in that genealogy?
10:47: We find that um We find that joseph is a descendant of king david so so jesus comes through this line being um being from uh, the family of joseph being in a line of king david so therefore
11:09: Legally in an earthly sense He has legal rights to the throne because he is a descendant of of king david.
11:18: He is um He's adopted son of joseph and and therefore in that family line descendant of um of king david, um
11:32: And and if you've ever Dug into matthew if you know around christmas
11:38: As you studied luke you studied matthew and you and you've had Um studied lessons on on the christmas story.
11:45: This may be familiar familiar to you that Joseph is genealogy and it shows us that jesus is king through the line of david.
11:54: Um But it was interesting to me as I was looking at it as I was studying it reflecting on it that um
12:02: Jesus is not just jesus is not just an earthly king And this passage
12:09: I do believe that these passages here are showing us that that jesus. Um Is legally
12:17: In in an earthly sense has the right to the throne of david because of the genealogy
12:22: Because of joseph and being of the family of joseph. That's absolutely what it's teaching but I also think it's teaching us a
12:33: Different aspect of who jesus is Because jesus is not just um king of the earth
12:43: Right Um, someone could Be a king like like david himself.
12:48: He was king of uh, a certain area. He had boundaries um, and so if you know if jesus were to take on david's
13:01: Literal throne there, you know, he would have the boundaries that that david had of course.
13:07: Um They were in a different situation Uh by the time jesus showed up but just just as an example the the one who followed after david would would um
13:18: Be reigning over the those boundaries. There would there would be limitations to his reign.
13:23: Um but with with jesus Um, his reign would be here on earth if that was you know
13:31: If that was the only sense in which he was reigning Or the only sense in which he was king
13:37: He would have he would have boundaries he would have limitations but we know that's We know that's not the case with jesus that his kingship does not have boundaries, right?
13:48: It's not just limited to a certain area here on the earth. It's not just limited to um
13:55: The earth the globe itself. Um, and I noticed some folks jumping in and out and that's cool and i'm glad Um, i'm glad you guys are watching with me

14:38: We we know we're learning that jesus being in the line of david Legally has that right to to Obtain the the throne of david and of course that fulfills
14:50: You know other prophecies in scripture So what in what other way does he reign in what other way does uh is jesus king?
15:01: Well We look at the prophecy And um I'm, not gonna i'm not gonna flip to these scriptures.
15:08: I do have um kind of a summary of where they come from but But the prophecies were fulfilled
15:16: Uh now all this took place verse 22 that what was spoken by the lord through the prophet
15:24: Might be fulfilled and which prophet was that? Well, the the prophet that um spoke these things was the prophet isaiah
15:32: And the verses here say behold The virgin shall be with child and shall bear his son and they shall call his name emmanuel which translated means god with us
15:41: Isaiah 7 14 speaks of a virgin bearing a son And his name will be emmanuel
15:48: Chapter 9 verses 6 and 7 the government will rest on his shoulders and the increase of his his government will there will be no end
15:56: And and his reign his um reigning will um will be forever chapter 8 verse 10 says, um teaches us that He will he will be known just like just like when he's uh, when he gives him the name emmanuel
16:15: Um being translated god with us chapter 8 verse 10 is another area where you can see that he is called god with us and so How does that point to to jesus being king and how does that and what does that tell us about the
16:31: The kind of king that jesus is well Who was who was god to the folks in the old testament to to his people in the whole testament jesus was um god was king of his people in the old testament
16:50: He was their king um even though um
16:58: God was uh invisible He is invisible. He is spirit, but he was invisible
17:05: Um, he was he was still their king. He ruled over them. He was their king
17:10: He was the one who gave them the their laws And that they were to obey and follow Even though he was invisible he still ruled and and reigned over his people
17:23: And at times he revealed himself If you're familiar with some of the stories in the old testament
17:32: That he did reveal himself, you know several times to um to individuals like, you know, like moses in the burning bush as an example
17:41: God did reveal himself, but as a whole being the invisible god
17:47: But still king over his people being the lawgiver and being and reigning and ruling over his people so What happens next um
18:04: Oh, yeah, let's look at let's look at the psalms How do we know that well, uh, let's start at psalm chapter 10 psalm chapter 10.
18:18: Um, You know, how do we how do we know that they that god was their king? How do we know that they viewed god as their king?
18:25: Well, we can look at we can look at several psalms and this is not all of them There there are plenty more psalms that we could read and we could look at other places in the old testament
18:35: That speak to this but let's just look at for um Psalm chapter 10 verse 16.
18:42: It says The lord is king Forever and ever nations have perished from his hand and then chapter 24 chapter 24 verse 10
18:54: Who is the king of glory the lord of hosts? He is the king of glory and then verse chapter 47 47
19:02: Like I said, I was just going to flip through these passages. I didn't print them out today um
19:08: So we'll just take our time 47 verse 7 for god is the king of all the earth sing praises with a skillful song
19:16: And then the last one chapter 95 Psalm chapter 95
19:24: And you sometimes you can skip by these songs really quickly because they're they're short chapters
19:30: And you can skip by and go past it chapter 95 verse Uh verse 3 for the lord is a great god and a great king above all gods.
19:40: So the psalmist Viewed david. Hey mom and dad Thanks for uh watching um
19:49: The psalmist we can see that it's evident that the psalmist
19:55: Viewed god as the king of all the earth the king of his people. Um, the king of uh,
20:03: The king over him in fact the last one that i'm going to read from the psalms is psalm 110
20:11: And and this passage is is quoted as well in matthew chapter 22 verse 44 um
20:19: It says a psalm of david The lord says to my lord sit in my right hand until I make thine enemies a footstool for thy feet
20:29: For the lord will stretch forth thy strong scepter from zion saying rule in the midst of thine enemies and so And it's questioned
20:39: Of course in the new testament, uh, how how can how can david say to to jesus?
20:47: And how can david call jesus lord if david came before? Jesus and so of course we're speaking of the eternality of christ and that he he always existed
20:58: He always was and and the lord is king over david as well as Now being given the legal rights being from the family of joseph to to sit on that throne of david
21:14: And so this is the verse that that matthew references there The lord says to my lord sit at my right hand and here's the big prophecy uh part of end times prophecy until thine enemies
21:26: Until I make thine enemies a footstool for thy feet and that that process is happening christ
21:32: Christ is ruling and reigning and his enemies are being made his footstool so The lord was viewed as king
21:43: In the old testament And now we look to matthew chapter 1
21:51: And matthew chapter 1 When he speaks of fulfilling what the prophets said, what did the prophets say that?
22:00: You shall call his name emmanuel Being translated god with us
22:10: So who was god god was king And there was going to come this one this fulfillment of prophecy
22:19: That was going to be god with us the king with us and so Matthew was teaching us that Jesus is is king
22:31: And and he's he's an unlimited king He doesn't have those limitations and boundaries that that david or any other king had he is king
22:39: In in a earthly legal sense by being of the family of joseph and the line of david
22:44: But he's also king in a spiritual sense because he is emmanuel. He is god with us and god
22:52: Is king was king over his people and there's going to come one who will be god with us
22:58: The king with us he will be with us. He will come dwell with us and jesus fulfilled that prophecy so therefore
23:07: Um spiritually um spiritually
23:13: Jesus fulfills that kingship Because he comes from the holy spirit, right?
23:20: It says, um, you know, joseph Mary is is now with child
23:26: And he is from the holy spirit So jesus will kill fulfills.
23:31: Excuse me. I can't talk this morning Jesus fulfills that spiritual kingship
23:36: Because he comes from the holy spirit and also because he has fulfilled
23:42: The prophecies of the anointed one to come the one that they will call emmanuel god with us
23:49: The king is with us and he is also the earth in an earthly legal sense king, so what does that mean jesus is
23:58: Is king in two different senses in two different ways that makes him an unlimited king king of the earth
24:08: And king in the spiritual realm So therefore jesus is is king over everything
24:17: Right. Jesus is king over everything now. I want to get to um, uh, again just want to I Put this in there.
24:26: I keep I see folks jump in and out and and I do that too on facebook, you know I jump in and out

25:07: What did the people of god the people of the king What did they do? What they do in the old testament
25:15: With god being their king. Well, we can look at samuel 1 samuel chapter 8
25:21: And Listen to how they treated their king And this is where we're getting to the part of of rejecting the king rejecting king.
25:31: Jesus and of course i'm I'm going to end on a positive note so, um
25:36: We're we're on the second to last last point here. Um But this is where I thought about Um speaking of the title, you know, jesus is king.
25:47: We want to live in that victory of jesus kingship and then
25:54: Rejecting jesus as king from matthew chapter 1 And this is where this is where that comes from when
26:03: I thought of matthew teaching us that jesus is Is king in an earthly legal sense through joseph and jesus is king uh through the holy spirit and through Fulfillment of prophecy.
26:15: He's a he's a spiritual king Emmanuel god with us the king with us
26:21: So how and then I thought about how they treated their king in the old testament
26:27: And I remember 1 samuel chapter 8 And let me read Let me read verses 1 through 1 through 7
26:37: And it came about when samuel was old that he appointed his sons judges over israel
26:42: Now the name of his first one was joel in the name of his second abijah They were judging judging in beersheba his sons.
26:51: However Excuse me His sons, however did not walk in his ways
26:57: But turned aside after dishonest gain and took bribes and perverted justice
27:03: Then all the elders of israel gathered together and came to samuel at ramah and they said to him behold
27:11: You have grown old and your sons do not walk in your ways now Appoint a king for us to judge us like All the other nations so all the other nations
27:27: Have an earthly king this this idea of nations is going to come up in the end on in the positive part
27:33: But but keep that in the back of your mind this this idea of other nations The other nations had an earthly king and and of course the the jewish people israel.
27:42: They were god's people And then you had everyone else, right? and so everyone else
27:48: From a biblical sense or and and in reality, we're worshiping idols uh false gods living for themselves
27:57: And that's why you have that's why you have the flood. That's why you have um, the the tower of babel, that's why you have all the all these judgments, uh upon the earth and People are worshiping other gods and and they've gone away from god but here um israel wants to be like The other nations those who are different than god's chosen people
28:23: Worshiping false gods and and the like and they want to be like them In the fact that they have a king
28:31: As judge over them. Um verse five now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations
28:39: Verse six, but the thing was displeasing in the sight of samuel when they said give us a king to judge us
28:47: And samuel prayed to the lord And the lord said to samuel
28:53: Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you For they have not rejected you
29:01: But they have rejected me from being king Over them so the people the people that god had chose, uh to to rule over and to um,
29:17: To keep separate to bring the messiah through He was their king. He was their lawgiver and here they reject him as king.
29:26: They wanted a king Like the other nations to to rule over them to judge of them to go before them in battle and all these other things
29:33: That they talk about Um, but the lord says to samuel they've not rejected you they rejected me as king
29:43: And this happened They they broke their covenant with god over and over again.
29:49: They reject him as king. Um so That's what came to mind when when
29:59: I read matthew chapter one And and the fulfilled prophecy was
30:05: They shall call his name emmanuel god with us And we're talking about jesus being king and jesus, um, therefore it is the king with us spiritually
30:18: And how did the people treat their king? They rejected him and that rejection
30:29: Continued even to the time of jesus even on the cross
30:36: And we're going to read some verses. Um about that in just a second So they were they rejected.
30:44: Um God is king and I think that's repeated. Um in verse chapter 12 verse 12 it says
30:53: When you say to nehesh the king of the sons of amon come against you you said to me no
30:59: But a king shall reign over us. Although the lord your god was your king so Again This is a situation where the the people of god reject
31:12: God as their king and god told them
31:18: God had a response and I want to I want to show you the response Because we want to look at we want to look at the the consequences
31:27: The fact of the matter is that that jesus is king The the prophecy was fulfilled.
31:35: Um, and even before the prophecy god Was and is god god was their king
31:43: Even though they rejected him and wanted an earthly king and god gave them the earthly king that that did not um
31:51: God did not step off his throne god remained on his throne. You see how that works that um
31:59: God as as the king of kings Allowed them to have a king
32:06: So if he didn't want them to have a king he would they would have had another king But he he let them um have what they wanted
32:14: So that that is the ability of the ultimate king that has the ultimate authority
32:20: So he didn't he didn't step off his throne. He remained king and he allowed things to happen
32:26: They just had an earthly king This was his response And then he gives a warning verse verse eight.
32:35: Um Verse eight is the response The lord says like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from egypt even to this day
32:44: In that they have forsaken me and served other gods so they are doing to you also samuel so He's saying it's just like it's always been
32:57: Um, they they went after other gods. They've forsaken me and now in your time samuel.
33:03: They're doing it to you They're rejecting me um And the message that i'm giving you they're rejecting you.
33:10: Um, and you read that Over and over in the in the new testament and jesus and I think it's in john
33:20: Jesus speaks to them about how how they treated their fathers those that um, those that were speaking of him
33:29: They they killed All the prophets that spoke of christ they they killed they persecuted the prophets of god
33:36: And here the lord is saying they're you know, just like they've always done in the past. They're doing it to you samuel
33:44: And then here's his warning here's the warning of god because of their decision to reject the lord as king
33:51: And have an earthly king just like the other nations. The lord is giving them a warning uh verses 9 through 17
33:58: He says now then listen to their voice However, you shall solemnly warn them and tell them of the procedure of the king who will reign over them
34:08: This is what the king who's going to reign over them. This is what he's going to do So samuel spoke to all the spoke all the words of the lord to the people who asked of him
34:18: A king and he said this will be the procedure of the king who will reign over you He will take your sons and place them
34:27: For himself in his chariots and among his horsemen and they will run before his chariots
34:33: And he will appoint for himself commanders of thousands and of 50s and Some to do his plowing and to reap his harvest and to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots
34:45: He will also take your daughters for perfumers And cooks and bakers and he will take the best of your fields and your vineyards and your olive groves and give them to his servants and he will take a tenth of your seed and of your vineyards and Give to his officers and to his servants
35:07: And he will also take your male servants and your female servants and your best young men and your donkeys and use them for his work
35:16: Verse 17 and he will take a tenth of your flocks and you yourselves will become his servants
35:24: So this is this is the warning. This is what this king that you want This is what he's going to do.
35:30: This is going to be his procedure And we know this warning from the lord came true this is this is really pretty cool
35:39: To see this happen, um, if you flip over a couple chapters to chapter 17
35:47: We know that We know that this warning of the lord Came true that this would be the procedure of the king that was appointed over them
35:57: How do we how do we know that was fulfilled? That it came true that that this new king treated them this way
36:05: If you if you go to chapter 17 you you get into the story of david and goliath Goliath the philistine who who was the giant who came out and mocked israel mocked god's people
36:17: And said send out your best warrior to to fight me and and no one ever went out And of course david eventually went out
36:24: But goliath Was a threat to the people of god To uh to israel
36:32: And and king saul at the time It was a threat to him and he really wanted somebody to defeat this giant this this warrior
36:44: And he he wanted this so much That he offered basically a reward to the one that would would kill him
36:53: Listen to what the reward is for the one that defeats This warrior goliath chapter 17 verse verse 25
37:04: And the men of israel said have you seen this man who is coming up? Surely he is coming up to defy israel
37:14: And it will be that the king will enrich the man who kills him with great riches
37:23: And will give him his daughter And make his father's house free in israel
37:33: It doesn't go over all the uh a reversal of all Um all the procedures that is spelled out in in chapter eight but we we read that the
37:47: The families the families that made up the people of israel they were the servants of the king and so therefore
37:56: The king owned these people To be able to free the the father's household of the one who kills goliath um, they had to be owned by the king and And he would they would give them riches
38:12: Give him his daughter and so We saw we see this this warning being fulfilled even in the their first king saul
38:21: And his his father's house would be free so therefore they were enslaved to the king.
38:27: Um, So this is this is what happens
38:36: This is what happens in an earthly sense when we reject christ as king in in the earthly sense, um
38:46: You know, we spoke of jesus heaven or being king in in two senses in in two aspects of the word
38:52: Or in two aspects of his kingship that this earthly reign um, and we see here that when we
39:00: In an earthly sense when we reject god as king There's going to be someone to take his place and we're going to be we're going to be owned
39:13: By That one that replaces god as king we're going to have a king. Um, The truth is jesus is the son of god believing jesus is god
39:23: Denies the truth it denies god and the son Let me read that again
39:30: From joe d the truth is jesus is the son of god
39:36: Believing jesus is god denies the truth. It denies god and the son That is a
39:45: Different perspective Um Um, that is a perspective that has been um renounced um
39:57: I'm, not sure who joe Joe d is he's watching it looks like he's watching on youtube.
40:03: Thank you for watching joe. Um, But That perspective is one that that has been renounced.
40:12: Um for a long time it was that um that perspective Was around even in the in the first century that jesus was not god.
40:23: He was it was just a mere man um scripture scripture does
40:30: Speak to the father being god scripture speaks to jesus being god and it speaks to the holy spirit
40:36: It references all three of them with divine attributes and that's the way it describes and speaks to Um their identity that that all three are are god and so Where where I stand and where I believe which is which is going to be the the orthodox position um, the one that is um
41:04: Has been most widely held throughout since the time of the apostles
41:12: Is that that god is trinity three in one One god in three persons, so I appreciate you commenting and and Um being interactive joe.
41:25: I really appreciate that. Um, but yeah, that's that's definitely a subject to look into and uh,
41:33: And I just I wanted to share with you my perspective and uh, Where where I landed on that issue
41:41: Um, but but I believe the bible does teach that that jesus is god and that that title son of god, which is which is more of a title than a description of his incarnation
41:56: Of the title son of god Also speaks to his divinity as well so Jumping back in to where we were we know that That we will be owned
42:11: We we are going to have a king. We are going to have a ruler over us um, even if we
42:17: We think we think we're freeing ourselves. We we go into rebellion Um, our parents try to teach us about christ our parents try to teach us
42:25: To follow god and follow his word and and be obedient to to our king.
42:30: Jesus Um, and and then we will reject that Um, or we'll reject someone in our life that's trying to point us to christ
42:48: Joseph's incarnation is a lie For it is appointed unto me and wants to die and then judgment
42:54: Yeah, I believe in that verse. Um um, if if you believe the the incarnation is a lie, then
43:05: Uh, you would have to reject the the actual verses that we read
43:11: Initially, um our key text this this morning that we were looking at Matthew Matthew chapter 1 verses 18 through 25 where The angel comes to Joseph and says don't put her away
43:27: Don't put her away because She is with even though she is with child is from the holy spirit, so Even the verses that we we looked at this morning
43:38: Matthew chapter 1 verses 18 through 25 uh speak to the incarnation and so if you
43:44: I mean if you deny the incarnation then you're denying the um the the teachings of the bible, so um again, thank you for your
43:56: Your participation. I appreciate it. Um And I probably won't be able to answer all your questions or objections um
44:05: Because i'm i'm not the smartest person in the world, but but I think that Matthew chapter 1 verses 18 through 25 that we read this morning does does address that issue
44:19: Um So we Let me wrap up that last point that I was making so we can move on we're going to be owned um
44:28: And and we see folks in our own life that that rebel and they think If I can get out from under These god -given authorities so we you know as authorities on this earth, um
44:42: God has appointed authorities. So therefore we represent god So when you reject a parent when you reject a husband when you reject an elder in the church when you reject, um you know the the law of the land the the ruling authority
45:01: Um when they don't oppose god Um, you're rejecting god because he has placed those
45:08: Um means of authority in our lives and when you reject them and go into rebellion
45:13: You're you're rejecting god and and when you Those that do that think they're they're releasing themselves
45:22: Into and giving themselves freedom from being under that authority That's the mindset that's why they do it that's why they um
45:33: They practice this rebellion is is to have this freedom To be out from underneath god -given authority but in reality
45:42: Even if you leave God as the authority in your life you're going to be
45:49: You're going to be owned by something else and we could go through a plethora of other things that You will be owned by but you are going to be owned by something else
46:03: And you're going to be a servant of something else. So Just like with salvation.
46:08: Um Just like our decision to to follow christ, you know, there are either
46:16: Believers Those who've god has god has saved Or those who are not saved there's only two groups ultimately of people on this earth the saved and the unsaved and so The same is true in this situation
46:34: You're either a follower of king jesus or You are not
46:42: And you're being enslaved by something else something else is your king. You may think it's freedom, but you're slaved to that rebellion you are enslaved to to that, um
46:55: To something else whatever it is. It could be many different things in your life But you're either either christ is your king or something else is your king and that that false false, um
47:13: Thinking that you're living in freedom is just that false because you are enslaved you are owned
47:21: You are owned by something all right now What about what about rejecting christ as king?
47:32: in that spiritual sense Um, we we looked at rejecting christ as king rejecting god as king in an earthly sense and what happens here on earth
47:41: But what happens? What happens in that spiritual sense rejecting christ as king rejecting god as king in our life?
47:52: Um We're gonna flip over first Oh, there's daniel. I'm gonna hold my place there in daniel
47:58: Because we're gonna flip right back to daniel um We're gonna start in john look at daniel and then come back to matthew.
48:07: Um But what happens when we reject in the spiritual sense christ as king john chapter 19
48:15: And i'm sorry i'm flipping pages so much Uh Verses 12 through 16
48:21: It says as a result of this pilot made efforts to release him But the jews cried out saying if you release this man, you are no friend of caesar
48:33: Everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes caesar So here they're making that distinction
48:42: There's only one king that's ruling over me at a time It's either christ or it's
48:50: Something else in this case. It was caesar When pallet therefore heard these words he brought jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called the pavement but in hebrew gabbatha
49:07: Now it was the day of preparation for the passover. It was about the sixth hour and he said to the jews behold your king verse 15
49:18: They therefore cried out away with him away with him crucify him pilot said to them shall
49:24: I crucify your king? The g the chief priest answered we have no king but caesar
49:32: So he then delivered him To them to be crucified. So there they were rejecting christ as king
49:40: We're going to flip over we're going to read uh several verses in daniel starting in daniel chapter 2 verses 34 and 35
49:52: Daniel 2 34 and 35 and these verses say You can you continued looking until a stone was cut out with without hands and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay
50:08: And crushed them that then the iron the clay the bronze the silver and the gold were crushed
50:14: All at the same time and became like chaff These are some words that I want us to remember stone and then chaff from the summer threshing floors
50:26: The wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth
50:37: So just to give you a little bit of context of what's going on here. Um, there was a vision and then
50:44: The vision was of this the statue that was built and different different layers of the statue
50:52: Were made of different material and the different materials represented different kingdoms there was um, and the
51:00: They were put in chronological order Is what they were and so you had the kingdom there at that time and then starting at the head that material
51:11: Was going to represent the kingdom after that and then the kingdom after that and then the kingdom after that And then you have at the bottom the the clay and the iron mixed together
51:21: There was there was a rock a stone that was cut out And it was not made by hands and then this this rock
51:33: Was going to destroy all of the other All the rest of the whole statue all at one time it says and then that that that stone
51:47: Was then going to become a great mountain and fill the whole earth so this was a prophecy of things to come
51:56: That you would have these different nations that were going to come in chronological order and then this stone that was not
52:03: Built by hands And who was who was the stone not built by hands? Not that that come from talking about the incarnation that come from the holy spirit
52:14: I'm going to crush all these nations. They're all going to be gone and then this stone is going to Grow into this big mountain and fill the whole earth
52:27: This is wrapped up in end times. It's wrapped up in the end times prophecy and we could speak to that But what
52:34: I want to look at specifically is this um the stone The chaff on the threshing floor um and the destruction of the nations
52:45: So there's there's our first verses and then we flip over same chapter verses 44 and 45 and in these days of those kings
52:55: And and in the days of those kings the god of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed
53:04: Whose kingdom is that? And that kingdom will not be left for another people.
53:10: It will crush And put an end to all these kingdoms But it will itself endure forever
53:18: Verse 45 in as much as you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands
53:24: And that it crushed the iron the bronze the clay the silver and the gold
53:31: The great god has made known to the king What will take place in the future?
53:38: So the dream is true and its interpretation is trustworthy All right.
53:44: So this this stone Brings judgment. It destroys the other nations the nations that reject
53:51: God as king that reject christ as king And all the other nations will be destroyed
53:58: But this people this kingdom this nation will have no end and it will fill the earth
54:07: Let's remember the stone And what it does the chaff threshing floor the wind
54:17: Let's remember those words because we're going to it's gonna we're following a path here. Um Now we're going to come to to matthew
54:27: Matthew chapter 3 Oh Did he go this way matthew chapter 3?
54:40: verse 12 And his winnowing fork is in his hand
54:46: And he will thoroughly clear his threshing floor And he will gather his wheat in the barn and he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable
54:56: Fire, so judgment is happening All these other kingdoms they came one right after the other they were destroyed
55:05: And then you have this last last bit the the clay and the iron being destroyed he's he's um
55:14: He's separating the wheat from the chaff and the chaff are going to be burned up. And then you have matthew chapter 21
55:27: Matthew chapter 21 verses uh 42 through 44 Jesus said to them
55:41: Did you never read in the scriptures the stone which the builders rejected? This became the chief cornerstone.
55:49: This came about from the lord and it is marvelous in your eyes Therefore I say to you
55:54: The kingdom of god will be taken away from you and be given to a nation producing the fruit of it
56:01: And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces But on him but on whomever it falls it will scatter him like dust and that that particular quotation from the old testament comes from Psalm 118 verse 22 the stone that the builders rejected will become the chief cornerstone of this kingdom and those that uh
56:28: Those that stumble Um, it will be a stumbling block. The stone will be a stumbling block to uh this people
56:38: And uh, they will they will stumble on it it will they will scatter like dust it will crush them
56:44: So this stone which is jesus made with without the hands of man
56:51: It's going to become this great kingdom and it's going to fill the earth and it's also in judgment where it's going to crush
57:00: Crush the nations um And then as well um the the spiritual application of jesus
57:17: The sense that jesus is king in in the spiritual sense Is that he's he's crushing these nations.
57:23: He's he's crushing the For the last time he's he's coming in judgment on his people
57:32: That continued to reject him that reject him as Rejected him as king.
57:38: We read in john john chapter 19 We have no king but caesar. He is not our king.
57:44: Jesus was rejected Emmanuel god with us. He was rejected again for the final time
57:53: And judgment came upon this people after this final rejection of him as king
58:00: And so therefore you have two kingdoms You have the kingdom of god
58:08: And then you have the kingdom of whoever whoever is owning you at the time the kingdom of this world kingdom of satan
58:15: Uh kingdom of self whatever whatever is owning you whatever kingdom that you're in There's only two kingdoms spiritually
58:25: And those that are in the kingdom of christ will Will rule and reign with him and we're going to look at those verses in just a second
58:35: But you will live you will be given life and live in eternity forever but if you are
58:44: Not in the kingdom of god if christ is not your king if you rejected christ as king Which which this is the part that should break our hearts
58:52: For there's so many of our friends and our family and our neighbors that reject christ as king
59:00: That reject his rule reject his lordship reject his his um
59:08: Being messiah to come and save They continue to reject him and though they may feel they are living in freedom
59:17: They are enslaved to some other king and not being in the kingdom of christ
59:23: Will have eternal consequences as well They will live. Um Any eternal
59:31: Torment the bible says it speaks of a hell the the wrath of god is going to be this hell
59:39: That is a literal place a lake of fire Where it is
59:44: It is never going to end as well and it's eternal punishment being
59:51: Rejecting christ as king and being under some other kingdom some other rule
59:58: So there's the consequences In an earthly sense you reject christ as king
01:00:05: You're going to be owned by something here on this earth You're going to be enslaved to something here on this earth
01:00:10: And spiritually you're going to be enslaved to something else and you are going to Face the the eternal spiritual consequences
01:00:21: That you will feel of course physically and spiritually 40 for eternity so Matthew chapter 1 teaches us of the incarnation of god being with us
01:00:34: The king is with us and rejecting him brought
01:00:42: Judgment on that nation. It brought judgment on all the other nations There's not a nation that has existed that has not been crushed
01:00:52: That rejected god as king that rejected christ as king And now christ came god with us
01:01:01: In a legal earthly sense to be king of the earth And in a spiritual sense from the holy spirit fulfilling prophecy king
01:01:11: In spiritually in the spiritual realm. So he is king over all things
01:01:17: And then you look at matthew 28 28 Matthew 28 speaks to that And it speaks to our responsibility if we are in christ
01:01:27: If we are in christ He is our king And we have a responsibility
01:01:34: To follow the rule of the king and what he says and I want to pause right there uh
01:01:42: John replied two more times. Let's see what john says In John 3 36 he that believeth on the sun hath everlasting life and he that believeth not the sun
01:01:54: Shall not see life, but the wrath of god abideth on him Jesus is the son of god
01:02:01: Absolutely believe that absolutely He that believeth on the sun has everlasting life and he that believeth not
01:02:10: On the sun will face the wrath of god or the wrath of god abideth on him
01:02:16: Absolutely, I believe that jesus is the son of god. I I think based on your other statements
01:02:22: We have a different understanding of of what that means for jesus to be the son of god
01:02:30: But in in my understanding of as well Those statements are absolutely true
01:02:37: And that's what I was speaking of you believe you believe on the son of god. You will have everlasting life
01:02:43: Believe not the wrath of god abideth on you Reject his kingship reject his rule reject his um his offer of salvation
01:02:55: The wrath of god abideth on you On you make it personal
01:03:02: On your neighbor on your friends on your family the wrath of god abides on you on them and that word abideth
01:03:10: It's interesting That means it it's continuing and I think maybe john
01:03:16: Is it john 3 that that does speak to that? Um, and maybe in john somewhere that that speaks to that that um, uh this is uh
01:03:28: This is um this is the position that they have They were already in the wrath of god already
01:03:36: Abides on them and that will continue to abide on them Joe joe says my understanding is absolute no no variance.
01:03:45: Okay Appreciate that comment um
01:03:51: I believe the word of god is true And I believe it is infallible and errant and sufficient
01:03:59: And uh is without error So therefore As uh being a man um being a part of mankind and being uh
01:04:11: Having uh suffering the effects of the fall we one of us Is is holding a wrong position and so we'll leave it at that one of us is holding a wrong position um and we'll we'll continue to Learn and learn what the bible says about who god says he is and who jesus says he is
01:04:36: And so we'll leave that at that and I appreciate your comments appreciate you uh, uh chiming in uh so Back on to to matthew chapter 28.
01:04:49: Jesus speaks himself of of this Of who he is as king
01:04:56: He says matthew chapter 28 verse 18 and jesus came up and spoke to them saying all authority
01:05:02: Has been given to me where in heaven and on earth So this this is where he rules and reigns.
01:05:11: This is the um, the borders of his kingship Don't exist um
01:05:19: And those of you who are watching, um, i'm reading comments from from joe where I was reading comments from joe
01:05:24: Um, i'm able i'm streaming into three different locations And so if if you're watching on facebook and you don't see uh, joe's comments is because he's watching on youtube
01:05:35: And it looks like he's made some comments, um in youtube, but i'm able to see All the comments that are that are made at all three locations.
01:05:44: So if you're not seeing his comments, um It's okay. He's commenting from a location from where you're not watching
01:05:52: Um, if you're on facebook, so just just to make that clear Um, i'm reading comments from somebody and you're not seeing the comments that that's why um
01:06:02: That's that's what's going on and so His kingdom has no boundaries has no limitations.
01:06:09: Jesus is king. He has all all authority every single bit of it in heaven and on earth and then his
01:06:17: His call his command to us his followers those who are in his kingdom
01:06:25: Is what? He says go therefore based on this This position that I hold that I have all authority in heaven on earth that i'm the king of kings and lord of lords
01:06:37: Go therefore and make disciples of what? of all nations
01:06:44: Of all nations, you remember we were looking at daniel and it spoke of the nations
01:06:53: Those nations that rejected god as king They were destroyed
01:06:58: But god Jesus is telling us to to go out and make disciples of all nations.
01:07:07: So he's um He's compassionate and merciful and gracious that he would have.
01:07:15: Um, those in his kingdom to go out and make disciples of all nations
01:07:22: He wouldn't just destroy and leave them to their own devices But But draw them to himself
01:07:32: And he he's telling us to go out and make disciples of all nations And where does jesus have authority?
01:07:39: Where is jesus king? He says I have all authority in heaven and on earth therefore
01:07:47: If we are we are to go out and and we need to to broaden our perspective on christ's command here.
01:07:54: Um, You know when when this was taught when this is read this was um
01:08:00: Studied, you know We see it in a small perspective. Uh, jesus is telling us to go out and make disciples
01:08:08: Right Preach the gospel mark. I think says preach the gospel to every creature And so we're to go out preach the gospel make disciples, but we can't we can't leave out part of the verse
01:08:23: So, how do we do that? Yes, it's on an individual basis my my friends my family my neighbors
01:08:30: Um those that I come in contact those who are within my world within my reach
01:08:35: I am to go And preach the gospel make disciples
01:08:43: But the the vision the perspective is is the bigger one
01:08:50: I'm doing this In an effort as a part of making disciples of the nations
01:09:01: These individuals become followers of christ. They come into his kingdom And then the nations begin to change
01:09:11: Because they've come into god's kingdom christ's kingdom And then the nations begin to grow into individuals who have become
01:09:25: His part of his kingdom and then the nations begin to change because we have we have individuals who are in christ's kingdom who are then taking places of places of authority places of um elected positions
01:09:44: In our uh, they become elected officials, um, whatever it is ceos of businesses or um workers and businesses
01:09:56: They they become integral parts of society
01:10:02: Then and have more influence for the kingdom of god so we're
01:10:09: We're discipling the nations so when you when you think of when you when you're doing your part of Sharing the gospel and and making disciples of an individual
01:10:22: It's the the the scheme the the The plan is much bigger than um
01:10:31: Just for you To be making a cycle of that one individual It's part of the greater plan of making disciples of the nations of all nations
01:10:45: And wherever you go You go in the next room to speak to your spouse
01:10:52: You go to your work site and talk to your co -workers
01:10:59: In a in an appropriate manner for the workplace or you um
01:11:07: Where you're at the grocery store Or you're an elected official and you are um, you are having a committee meeting
01:11:15: Wherever you are you you're a missionary and you go to another nation Wherever you go wherever you are, where does it say that our king has authority?
01:11:25: He has all authority in heaven and on earth so wherever you go
01:11:32: You are you are in a place where your king has authority And you can do do your business there the will of your king there and so That's for those who are in christ in his kingdom and um, that's his command.
01:11:52: Um, So what else do we do? What else do we do? We're going to wrap it up here
01:11:58: Oh my goodness I can't believe that I'd go so long but when we're talking about god's word
01:12:08: We could just we could just keep going and on and on and on right so so let's end on a positive note
01:12:16: Positive aspect here. Matthew chapter 1 verses 24 through 25. This is this is passages that we read this morning
01:12:24: About uh the incarnation about joseph. What did joseph do? What was joseph's response to the um,
01:12:32: The authority of god the kingship of christ the king with us god with us What was his response to that his response?
01:12:40: was obedience joseph Uh verse 24 says and joseph arose from his sleep and did as the angel of the lord commanded him and took her as his wife
01:12:52: And kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a son And he is called and he called his name jesus
01:13:01: And there's another aspect of the divinity of christ in verse 25 that she remained a virgin until she gave birth.
01:13:09: So The only only one who is divine
01:13:18: Could come from that type of birth. Um, but anyway joseph
01:13:25: Obeyed his king obeyed orders from his king And and did what the message from the angel said.
01:13:32: Um, of course, we looked at matthew 28 18 through 19 matthew 5 5
01:13:38: But what else happens here for those in his kingdom Matthew 5 5 says blessed are the meek for what they shall
01:13:49: Inherit the earth. That's what we get to look forward to. Um, not rejecting christ as king but Submitting to him as king we
01:14:02: We have to go back to that That understanding that we talked about of god being king in the old testament
01:14:08: He didn't stop being king he didn't um Delegate his throne his position of authority to um to this earthly king because his people rejected him
01:14:20: God remained king god remained on his throne And the same is true with jesus
01:14:29: Jesus is jesus remains on his throne King Jesus is king.
01:14:35: Jesus will always be king. His kingdom will be forever and and the meek christ says will inherit the earth no matter what
01:14:47: No matter what we see in the newspaper. No matter what's going on in the world The meek will inherit the earth those who are in christ's kingdom
01:14:56: We will inherit the earth and then the last one related to that revelation 24 through 6 says um
01:15:04: We will reign with christ We will inherit the earth and we will reign with christ being in his kingdom
01:15:19: Those that reject him as king And here's here's the thing I want to make this comment before I forget it again
01:15:28: About christ being king about christ having all authority in heaven and on earth And and you going out and making disciples of all the nations
01:15:37: Yes Yes, we are to share the gospel. That's how we make a disciple um, we are to um continue
01:15:48: Discipling that's that's taught in scripture, you know, the the older women teaching the young women older men teaching younger men
01:15:56: Discipling is is taught as well. So we're to share the gospel make disciples and continue to disciple
01:16:05: Those that come to christ But but wherever we go and and whenever we're doing that and we're
01:16:15: We're sharing christ their acceptance or rejection of christ
01:16:23: Has no bearing On his kingship, right? Jesus is king
01:16:31: He has all authority in heaven and on earth therefore Those that we're speaking to that we we love and we want them to be saved and we want them to to to escape hell and to be in god's kingdom
01:16:49: The fact of the matter is it goes above and beyond our service level understanding of the gospel
01:17:02: Jesus they are rejecting christ as king He is still king
01:17:08: But what we are ultimately saying when we are sharing the gospel Is that Jesus there is a king
01:17:20: You need to submit to him That's that's the message of the gospel.
01:17:27: There is a king. His name is jesus and you need to submit to him That that is basically the message of the gospel
01:17:36: We need to repent of our sins and put our faith and trust in jesus christ and his his work his accomplishments his accomplishments his victory
01:17:47: His replete his Taking the wrath of god in our place in essence
01:17:56: And in other words, we are saying Jesus is king.
01:18:01: He has been given all authority in heaven on earth You must submit to him Or the wrath of god will abide continue to abide on you and that that's the truth and and we um
01:18:22: We we don't we don't speak to uh, those who are we're sharing the gospel with that.
01:18:28: Um that intensely But that is the truth of the matter that we are
01:18:36: We're presenting them an opportunity to submit to the king And they either receive him submit to him or reject him either way.
01:18:48: He remains king so If you do not know jesus christ as your lord and savior if you've not submitted to him as king
01:18:57: I would urge you greatly To come to him today repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in jesus christ trust in him
01:19:08: Come into his kingdom through faith in him Believe on him as as john chapter 3 verse 36 says believe on him
01:19:17: And come into his kingdom And and don't believe this lie anymore that being out from underneath.
01:19:23: Uh god -given authority being out from underneath. Um christ And and don't believe this this lie that you are um
01:19:34: You are living in some type of freedom because you are owned You are being owned and you are a slave.
01:19:42: You are not free Come to christ where there is true freedom
01:19:49: Repent of your sins put your faith and trust in him Uh Joe made one more comment from youtube.
01:19:58: He says jesus was begotten not incarnate there again Joe, just a different understanding of what begotten means um, yes, the scripture says that jesus is the only begotten son of god and and We are coming from a different understanding of what what that word and these other words mean um

01:21:30: John chapter 3 says that you love the world And you give us opportunity to um
01:21:38: Escape your wrath come out from underneath the wrath that we abide in and be saved
01:21:47: Father I pray that you would you would be doing that through us today. Um Help us to submit and help us to obey these commands of yours
