And yes, he tended to go to the point of not accepting the
Deuterocanonicals as part of the canon of Scripture. He was an exception, by the way. He stood out from all the other fathers.
What happened is, Jerome went to the east, and he was there with the Jews in Israel, and he accepted the
Hebrew canon, the Jewish canon that those who spoke Hebrew were using. But the whole church as a whole was using the
Greek Septuagint of the canon, which included all of the Deuterocanonical books. So, he did cause a bit of problem there, but he was unique, and he was alone in that.
And the whole vast witness of the rest of the church did include the Deuterocanonicals. And by the way, they weren't even taken out of Protestant Bibles until the 1800s.
