00:17
Good Saturday morning, people of faith. You have heard it said, be careful what you wish for.
00:23
I would say that that's a good idea, but also be careful what you pray for, or what you sing for.
00:32
Let's look in Ezekiel chapter 44. We're just going to read one verse, and then I'm going to go to a couple more passages and read those to you as well.
00:42
Ezekiel chapter 44 and verse 4. Now, what's happening here is the
00:49
Lord is bringing Ezekiel to different places to show him different things, and here's what happens in verse 4.
00:57
It says, also he brought me by way of the north gate to the front of the temple. So I looked, and behold, the glory of the
01:06
Lord filled the house of the Lord, and I fell on my face. In the book of Exodus chapter 33, we have
01:19
Moses asking God a question or pleading with God.
01:25
In verse 18, he says, please show me your glory, and God responds, and he said,
01:34
I will make my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you.
01:40
I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion upon whom
01:46
I will have compassion. But he said, you cannot see my face, for no man shall see me and live.
01:56
And the Lord said, here is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock.
02:01
So it shall be. While my glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and will cover you with my hand while I pass by.
02:10
Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.
02:16
So notice that a couple of things here, that God answers his prayer, but is still gracious to him and has compassion on him, for if he had apparently answered his prayer, he might have just killed
02:33
Moses, right? So in Isaiah chapter 6, we have another prophetic vision here, and it says, in the year that King Uzziah died,
02:50
I saw the Lord sitting on a throne high and lifted up, and the train of his robe filled the temple.
02:56
Above it stood seraphim, each had six wings, with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
03:07
And one cried to another and said, holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts, the whole earth is full of his glory.
03:16
And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
03:23
And then Isaiah speaks, so I said, woe is me, for I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I will dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips, for my eyes have seen the
03:40
King, the Lord of hosts. So we have three different pictures here, and in each one of them,
03:49
Matthew Henry says that when you see the Lord and his glory, it lays us low and lifts
03:58
God up, right? And I'm not certain that that's what's happening in the situation that I referenced at the beginning.
04:09
Currently, there are two very popular worship songs in the
04:16
Christian music industry, and both of them repeat frequently, show us your glory, show us your glory.
04:29
And to that, I have to say, be careful what you're praying for, be careful what you're singing for, for no man has seen
04:41
God and lived. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, you are full of glory, and we wanna see you work, we wanna see you move, we want to see people come to faith in response to your gospel, but we wanna see that happen on the basis of your word, and on the basis of what you will, as you've shown us in your word.
05:12
Help us to keep these things in focus this day, as we look forward to the great and mighty things you will accomplish this day and in days ahead, help us to rely on you and walk with you, it's in your son's name,
05:26
Jesus, we pray, amen. Have an excellent day, people of faith.
