- 00:00
- We're here because we're forgiven, because we're saved, God loves us. He died for our sins and rose from the dead.
- 00:06
- And the message is that all who turn from their sin to come to Him will be forgiven. And that's what we want for you. That's the message.
- 00:11
- I appreciate that. I appreciate you, James. You have two choices here. You can continue on this path of sin and darkness and let your own child be led to the slaughter by your own hands.
- 00:25
- Or you can turn from the dismemberment and murder of your own children. Turn to God, turn to Christ who lived perfectly, who died for sinners and rose from the dead for forgiveness and salvation.
- 00:39
- So, for example, Romans 3 .28 says, We conclude that a man is justified, as declared righteous before God, by faith apart from works of law.
- 00:48
- So, faith apart from works of law. It says in Galatians chapter 5, Whosoever of you attempts to be justified by law, you've fallen from grace.
- 00:58
- Now, by the way, he said that in Galatians to people who were saying it's faith in Jesus and also just keep obedience to this work of the law, circumcision.
- 01:07
- So, Paul says if anybody tries to mix faith in Jesus and any work of the law to get right before God, he says that that's not grace.
- 01:16
- You're under the curse of the law to fulfill all of it. So, what I would say to my Latter -day Saint friends is if you're choosing works in tandem with grace and faith,
- 01:26
- Paul says that that's a false gospel. Anyone preaching it is eternally condemned. Paul says very clearly in Romans chapter 3 that by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified at his sight, for through the law is the knowledge of sin.
- 01:40
- And he says that the but now part, which is beautiful, but now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets.
- 01:49
- In other words, this righteousness from God is through faith in Jesus.
- 01:55
- It's a gift by His grace through the redemption that's in Christ. Now, I know that you've heard that. It's a different thing, so it's hard for our conversations.
- 02:02
- All three of us say grace. We say faith. We say cross, resurrection.
- 02:08
- But we don't mean the same things, though. When I say salvation by grace, I mean purely by grace apart from any work of law at all through Christ and His work alone.
- 02:17
- I mean, I would say what Paul says, Philippians 3. You probably know this. He says that he wants to be found in Christ, not having a righteousness of his own derived from the law, but that which comes from God through faith in Christ.
- 02:33
- He wants a foreign righteousness, one that's not his own before God. And that would bring me to a point of, like,
- 02:39
- I think we're preaching different Gospels, and it's not a minor issue. It's an issue of eternal death or eternal life.
- 02:45
- That's why I'm concerned. That's why I don't think the arguments between us are not just pithy. They're pretty serious.
- 02:51
- To hear this message of life and peace, the free gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus, who loves sinners,
- 03:01
- He was counted among rebels like us. You can come to the one who was pierced through for the transgressions of God's people.
- 03:10
- He was crushed for their iniquities. How loving is God? He's the kind of loving
- 03:17
- God who crushes His own Son for rebels. He gives His Son, His eternal
- 03:24
- Son, the Son of His love for wicked people like us. How can we know this
- 03:30
- God? It's not about minor differences, musical style, color of carpet in church, whether or not you drink coffee or don't.
- 03:41
- It's really a question of how we're reconciled to God and have peace with Him. Because the Bible says in Romans chapter 3 that there is none righteous, no, not one, none who seeks for God, that there is no fear of God before our eyes.
- 03:54
- And Paul says in Romans chapter 3 verse 28, we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of law, because the law,
- 04:01
- Paul says in Romans chapter 3, can only really reveal our sin. It really only shuts our mouth before God.
- 04:08
- It really only shows us who we are before God, and it really actually increases our knowledge of sin,
- 04:14
- Paul says. And so what's our hope? If we're sinners before a holy God, if we're worthy of death, if, as Jesus says, the wrath of God abides on us, then what's our hope?
- 04:28
- And the hope is in the Gospel because of what Christ did. Jesus is
- 04:34
- God in the flesh who went to the cross to take the punishment, the full punishment for His people, what they deserved,
- 04:42
- He took. He was perfectly obedient to the law of God, and yet He died a death that His people deserve.
- 04:48
- He was buried and He rose again. Not so you could have
- 04:53
- His work plus your good works, which the Bible says are nothing but filthy rags before God, in an effort to get reconciled to God.
- 05:03
- The Bible actually teaches that that's impossible. It says in Galatians 5, Christ has become of no effect to you, whosoever of you attempts to be justified by law, you've fallen from grace.
- 05:14
- Listen to this text from the Book of Mormon. In 2 Nephi 25, 23, it says this,
- 05:21
- By grace are you saved, after all you can do. And you compare that to the
- 05:28
- Bible, and it says in Ephesians 2, verses 8 and 9, By grace are you saved through faith, and not of yourselves.
- 05:34
- It is the gift of God, not according to works, lest any man should boast. It's all
- 05:39
- God's grace. It's only through faith in Jesus, apart from any work of law. And the Bible actually teaches us that if you go the route of works in an attempt to establish your own righteousness before God, Galatians chapter 3, you're under the curse of the law to do all of it.
- 05:57
- And the beauty of the Gospel for Mormons, and for really the world, is that Christ became a curse for God's people, taking what they deserve, giving to us a righteousness that's not our own, it's
- 06:13
- His righteousness, that it's a righteousness that can actually avail before a holy God. It's the only righteousness that will actually avail before the presence of God.
- 06:23
- It's Christ's righteousness. And Paul says this in Philippians chapter 3, and every Mormon needs to hear this.
- 06:29
- He lays out his resume. He talks about all that he did according to the law. He says, As to the law,
- 06:34
- I was a Pharisee. As to zeal, I persecuted the church of the tribe of Benjamin. And he says this, he says,
- 06:40
- All those things, he says, I count them as loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing
- 06:46
- Jesus Christ my Lord. And he says this, I want to be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the law, but the righteousness that comes from God through faith.
- 06:59
- The Bible teaches that through faith in Christ, you are given, credited a righteousness that is not your own.
- 07:05
- And it's apart from works of law, Romans chapter 4. God does not count your sins against you because of what
- 07:12
- Christ did. And He actually credits to your righteousness that is a perfect righteousness. It's Christ's.
- 07:17
- And the only way anybody will ever stand before a holy God, the only God that exists, is with a righteousness that is perfect.
- 07:27
- And that's not available to any of us in ourselves.
- 07:33
- And Mormonism actually teaches you in the articles of faith that through the atonement of Jesus Christ, all mankind may be saved.
- 07:40
- And that sounds so beautiful, except it goes on and it says, through obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel.
- 07:48
- It really says this, that Mormonism, with all of its beauty, with all of the lights, with all the
- 07:58
- Christian language, really has a message of death, not a message of life.
- 08:05
- And the call of the gospel to the Mormon is not that we want you to lose faith.
- 08:13
- It's not that we want you to lose God. It's that we want you to know the one and only true and living
- 08:19
- God. And we want you to have peace with Him through the true and living
- 08:24
- Christ, the eternal God who had no beginning. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the first, the last.
- 08:31
- He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We want you to know that Christ, the
- 08:36
- Christ that can give you a perfect righteousness through faith apart from works of law. And the call is this,
- 08:44
- Jesus is God in the flesh. He's the Messiah who lived righteously. He perfectly kept the law of God.
- 08:50
- He died and rose again. And He calls you to come and die and rise again. The command is to repent and to believe the gospel.
- 08:59
- Come to Christ in faith. Abandon your sin. Abandon your self -righteousness.
- 09:06
- Abandon all your good deeds. And you come to the true and living God, the only God, not to become a god one day, but to have peace with God.
- 09:15
- The truth is, God, He's the gospel.
- 09:21
- You get God, peace with God, forgiveness. Your sin's washed away, eternal life.
- 09:27
- Jesus says in John 5, 24, truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my voice and believes
- 09:33
- Him who sent me has eternal life. If somebody taught that, though, if they said that it's anything apart from faith, alone in Christ, and it's any work like baptism or church attendance or whatever it might be, tithing or whatever, however they add to justification, the apostle
- 09:51
- Paul says that Christ, in Galatians 5, he says Christ has become of no effect to you, whosoever of you attempts to be justified by law, you add any work to faith, he says you're denying grace and you're choosing law.
- 10:04
- But what about the scripture says faith without works is dead? Amen, yeah, James 2.
- 10:09
- Where Christ says, you know, he that doeth the will of my Father will.
- 10:15
- Amen. By the way, we believe that. See, Christians, the Bible teaches that when a person repents and believes and trusts in Christ, that's a work of God in their life.
- 10:24
- That's a gift from God, right? And we believe the Bible teaches that when you've come to Christ to be declared righteous by faith as a gift in Him alone, you are raised from death to newness of life.
- 10:36
- So it means your heart's changed, you have a new life, and God lives there. Absolutely, but then... So good works follow. And then you have to continue, right?
- 10:43
- But it's God that does that, and that's a gift in itself. So I'll give you a text.
- 10:50
- Romans 3 .28, Paul is talking specifically to this issue. And here's what I say to you, man.
- 10:55
- Listen, if you forget everything I say tonight, just do this, man, in the privacy of your own home, read Romans chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6 when you get home.
- 11:03
- Okay. Just by yourself. Just read it. And in the context of our discussion. And what he says is, we declare that a man is justified, which means declared righteous, by faith apart from works of law.
- 11:14
- And he says, how is Abraham justified? Was it through works? He says, what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed
- 11:19
- God, it was credited to him as righteousness. It was before the law was given, before he did circumcision, before he offered
- 11:24
- Isaac on the altar. And he says that God credited to him righteousness apart from works.
- 11:30
- And he doesn't count his sins. How? Faith, and faith alone. And if you and I are going to be sons and daughters of Abraham, which is the whole story, right?
- 11:38
- Because of Jesus, it has to be of the same faith as Abraham. And it's not just Mormonism that teaches it's grace and faith and works, so that God can see you and accept you based upon your faith and your works.
- 11:51
- The Bible teaches that it's solely through the righteousness of Jesus. Sweetheart, you are. You're lost. I'm lost.
- 11:57
- Because you're believing in a Christ that can... I've been lost in the Methodist church, I've been lost as a Muslim, You're believing in a
- 12:02
- Christ that has no power to save you. I've been lost in Catholicism, and I've also been lost in Messianic Judaism. You have no...
- 12:08
- And I've been lost in the Unity and New Thought movement. But right now... Sweetheart, you have no Savior that can save you.
- 12:14
- I'm sorry that... He has no power to save you. The Savior does have power to save me. Lucifer's brother is not a real
- 12:20
- Christ. He cannot save you. His atonement never happened, because that's a false Christ. It's not a false
- 12:25
- Christ. The Bible says, we are justified apart from works of law solely through what
- 12:31
- Christ did on His cross. The Bible actually, specifically speaks towards that kind of gospel.
- 12:37
- And it calls it anathema, a curse, to teach that you can, through faith in Jesus and obedience, as an attempt to be righteous before God, if you go that path,
- 12:51
- Paul says you're under the curse of the law to fulfill all of it. It's either we get the righteousness of Jesus Christ through faith, and His work credited to us as a gift, or we have to stand before God with our own sin and our own unrighteousness.
- 13:04
- It's either you're in Christ, or you stand before God with all your sin. And the only way to Christ in that way, according to the
- 13:10
- Apostle Paul, according to the Scriptures, is faith. And it's faith, Romans 3 .28, apart from the works of the law.
- 13:18
- And Mormonism teaches that we are ultimately, through exaltation, we make it to God through our obedience, through our own righteousness.
- 13:28
- Faith without works is dead. That's right. In James 2, faith without works is dead. But that has nothing to do with how we're justified before God.
- 13:34
- It has to do with whether the faith we have is alive or dead. A living faith has works.
- 13:40
- So Christians, by the way, believe that. We believe that if through faith in Jesus Christ you've been reconciled to God, you've been saved, you've been given the gift of eternal life, you're now alive.
- 13:49
- You're new. And the works that you do are as a result of a new heart, God living within you.
- 13:55
- And the works that you do don't save you or justify you. The works that you do are evidence ultimately that your faith is alive and not dead.
- 14:08
- But Mormonism teaches that we are actually saved by God's grace, through faith, and our obedience.
- 14:17
- And the Bible says to that, in Galatians 5, the Apostle Paul speaks directly to that kind of a gospel.
- 14:24
- He doesn't just call it anathema and condemn by God. He doesn't just say you're under the curse now because now you have to do all of the law perfectly because God is a holy
- 14:31
- God and He's just. He says that Christ has become of no effect to you. Whosoever of you attempts to be justified by law or works, you've fallen from grace.
- 14:42
- So he ultimately says to people who are teaching it's faith in Jesus, yes, but it's also keep this one aspect of the law in order to be justified before God, circumcision.
- 14:52
- He says to people who are teaching that, you are accursed, you're condemned by God, and now you are under obligation to keep the entirety of the law if that's how you're attempting to be righteous before God.
- 15:02
- Jesus enters into our suffering to take our death, but along the way He steps into a fallen world, a world we've chosen for ourselves to save people who are undeserving, wholly undeserving.
- 15:16
- What do we deserve from God? Not Him, not His grace, not
- 15:21
- His mercy. We deserve what every criminal would get in any court with a good judge.
- 15:29
- We deserve justice. We deserve condemnation. But the majesty of Jesus Christ in this
- 15:36
- Christmas story is that God loves sinners who are the rebels.
- 15:44
- God loves the ones who are in themselves enemies. Ephesians chapter 2 says about Christians, it says you are by nature children of wrath.
- 15:54
- You were dead in your sins and trespasses, but God made you alive together with Him.
- 15:59
- By grace you've been saved. Nothing in us. Most of us today, sitting here right now and standing here right now, most of us are descendants of pagan parents.
- 16:09
- Not Jewish by birth. And what has God done? What does Christmas shout to the world that God kept
- 16:15
- His promises? He came into the world. He lived among us. He kept all of those promises to save sinners.
- 16:20
- And if you believe in Christ today, if you are joined to Him by faith and you have eternal life as a gift by His grace through faith apart from any work because of Him, if you know
- 16:29
- Christ and you are known by God and you know Him today, you are evidence of God's faithfulness to His promises.
- 16:37
- You are testimony to God's covenant faithfulness. And Christmas is a time every year to remember that God keeps
- 16:45
- His promises and that God loves sinners. You're a sinner. I'm a sinner.
- 16:52
- God is righteous. We're not. We deserve condemnation. We deserve wrath because God is good and He's a good judge.
- 17:00
- He can't simply let us go. But God loves sinners so much that in the person of Christ He took on flesh to live a perfect life in the place of sinners, to die a death that you do deserve.
- 17:15
- The wages of sin is death. That's why He took that death. It wasn't just to be a good example.
- 17:21
- It's because we deserve it. And He was buried and He rose again. He has ascended and seated.
- 17:27
- And this is the call of the Gospel. Repent and believe the Gospel. Jesus says,
- 17:34
- Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My voice and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and does not come into judgment but is passed out of death into life.
- 17:44
- Jesus tells us, you're dead in your sins and trespasses. The call of the Gospel is to come and join
- 17:50
- Christ now in His death. Come to die and rise again. Today.
- 17:58
- If you want to know Christ, you can know Him now. Christ calls you to turn from sin, to come to Him in faith.
- 18:05
- You abandon your sin, you abandon your self -righteousness, and you come to receive the gift, the gift of eternal life.
- 18:12
- Be reconciled to God. That's the call of the Gospel, and that's the beauty of Christmas. God saves sinners.
- 18:18
- I would want you to hear this, that you need to hear the call of the
- 18:24
- Gospel, of repentance from all your sin, to trust in the true and living Christ.
- 18:29
- I want you to hear that tonight. Okay, well, I reject that. I know. Without God opening your eyes,
- 18:36
- I believe that you would. I just want to share with you the Gospel. I have read the
- 18:41
- Gospel. Christ is God, and He lived a life that was sinless, and He died for sinners and rose from the dead.
- 18:47
- That's what you believe. That's what He said. That is what He said according to a book that you live by.
- 18:52
- And I do not live by that book. I know you don't. That's obvious. But the
- 18:58
- Bible teaches that all of us are sinners. We're not better than you. Well, you sure act like you are. We're not. With the way you scream at people, the way you do.
- 19:05
- Would you scream at a man beating his wife? No, I would pull him away. I would call the cops. You would try to stop him.
- 19:10
- Yes, of course. That's what we're doing. You got it. God bless you.
- 19:16
- Turn from your sin, man. Come to Christ and live your life. We pray that you would know forgiveness and peace, reconciliation with God, that you turn from your sins to Christ, that you'd know the
- 19:33
- One who died for sinners and rose from the dead. You see, God doesn't just rescue your soul.
- 19:39
- He doesn't just rescue you for Him and eternity with Him. He also rescues your mind.
- 19:45
- He also rescues your mind from the feudal argumentation that you've engaged in to justify the slaughter of children.
- 19:56
- We pray that you would turn from your sin and trust in Christ to know the peace and forgiveness that we've experienced.
- 20:06
- We're sinners just like you. It is out of my love for Him and you that I am standing here right now pleading with you.
- 20:13
- Turn from your sin to Christ. Jocelyn, listen. I have no sin. One more thing. One more thing. You have to hear this.
- 20:21
- We're not saying to you, Jocelyn, you need to turn from your transgenderism and become a straight person and then you'll be saved.
- 20:27
- We're saying, listen, it's more than just your sexuality. It's for me more than my sexuality. I am in my past sexually broken and sinful and rebellious.
- 20:37
- It's not just my sexuality that's distorted. It's the way that I love God and love everyone. It's my sin, my pride, my fallenness.
- 20:44
- It's not, Jocelyn, we're not saying, Jocelyn, become a straight person, God will then love you. We're saying, Jocelyn, you've got nothing. You've got nothing to offer him.
- 20:50
- You are broken and fallen. I don't want to offer him anything. And you need Jesus. I don't want to offer him anything. You need to be forgiven and cleansed.
- 20:57
- My point, and I think you haven't caught it yet, and I hope you do, Jocelyn, if anything from today, if anything from today, I hope you at least catch what
- 21:03
- I'm saying to you. You're going to walk away from here today and you're going to act like there's something more to these human beings than protoplasm.
- 21:10
- You won't be able to shake him loose, Jocelyn. And I want you to know, just if anything else you hear, is that Jesus is
- 21:16
- God who came in the flesh to rescue rebels like me and you. And he will forgive and he will give grace to all who come to him for life.
- 21:25
- He died and rose again. Jocelyn, you've got to turn to him for life and forgiveness. For what? Because you're a sinner like me.
- 21:31
- No, I'm not. You need him. I'm not a sinner. Jocelyn, you're broken and you know it. Jocelyn, you're broken and you know it.
- 21:37
- I'm praying with love. Jocelyn, what would lead a person who is truly happy, who truly has peace, what would lead them to come here on a
- 21:47
- Saturday morning and to come here and to be drinking, obviously, to be drinking a
- 21:53
- Saturday morning? How can you be truly at peace and full of joy if this is the life that you've chosen?
- 21:59
- How could you truly have it and you're here a Saturday morning mourning against us who are trying to defend the lives of babies while you come here drinking?
- 22:06
- Jocelyn, you're not full of happiness and peace. You're torn up inside. I know you are. And it says, in fact, this,
- 22:12
- Romans 3, 28, we conclude that a man is justified, declared righteous, through faith, apart from any work of law, that through faith in Jesus, we are credited his righteousness, not because we're good, not because we deserve it, but because of what he did.
- 22:27
- Christ lived the perfect life. He was perfectly obedient. He died to take our place and rose from the dead so we would get a perfect righteousness as a gift.
- 22:36
- We would be made new, alive, changed. We would have good works, but they would flow from a person who was already redeemed as a gift, right?
- 22:45
- And it's through faith alone. That's what the Bible teaches about salvation. There is good news today.
- 22:52
- The good news is is that God, in the person of Jesus, took on flesh to rescue rebels like you and me.
- 23:00
- He lived a sinless life. He died for sins and he rose from the dead so that all who turn from sin to trust in Jesus would receive reconciliation and peace with God.
- 23:12
- And that's a free gift, but you've got to turn to him. Sitting in there is not turning to him.
- 23:18
- Sitting in there is not experiencing his life. If you deny what the Bible says about sin and God, you're denying it in light of this perfect display of it.
- 23:32
- A mother and a father seeking the blood of their own child.
- 23:42
- So the Bible says that our condition is ultimately hopeless. We're without hope in ourselves.
- 23:48
- It says that the wages of sin is death. What we deserve for our sins, what we've earned for it is death.
- 23:55
- The Bible says that our sins have separated us from God. It says that we are, without Christ, condemned.
- 24:04
- It says that we are under the wrath of God. But here's the powerful part of the entire story.
- 24:13
- God promised in his word that he would bring a rule, a kingdom into the world that would destroy all the works of the evil one.
- 24:24
- It would destroy sin and death. It would be a kingdom that would last forever. And when
- 24:30
- Jesus came into the world, he proclaimed that kingdom had arrived in the world. He called people to repent of their sin and to believe the good news.
- 24:39
- And here's the good news. God became a man and the person of Jesus. Though he is holy and we are not, though he is righteous and we are not, though we are the rebels,
- 24:52
- God enters into history. He takes on flesh to represent his people to live the life that they've failed.
- 24:59
- He was righteous and blameless. He died for sinners and he rose again from the dead.
- 25:06
- He has ascended and he has seated on his throne. He is king over you.
- 25:12
- He is king over these United States. He is king over this abortion mill.
- 25:18
- And the message of the good news is that if you turn from your sin to trust in Christ and put your faith in him, you will receive reconciliation and peace with God.
- 25:27
- You will receive the gift of eternal life. But you have to come. The Bible says repent.
- 25:33
- That's to have a change of mind. You have to change directions. You have a change of heart.
- 25:39
- As in right now, you are seeking your child's life. Repentance means turning away and walking out those doors.
- 25:51
- Jesus says this, Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my voice and believes him who sent me has eternal life and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life.
- 26:06
- Would you please come? Would you please come?
- 26:12
- And I just want to share this with you. Jesus, who we're talking about, said that he was God in the flesh. And I know you say,
- 26:17
- I don't have to accept that. But if it's true, he said that he was coming to live a perfect life and die for sins and rise from the dead so that if we turn from sin and trust in him, we would have peace with God and be forgiven.
- 26:28
- That's the message of love. And yeah, finding peace in the love and forgiving yourself.
- 26:34
- Understanding, I might have done something bad today, but I'm an evil person. I forgive myself. I don't need somebody else to forgive me.
- 26:40
- I need to forgive myself. Unless, of course, unless, of course, God is who he says he is and he made you for him and his glory, then all of us are guilty, me too, of offending the creator who is love, who is perfect, and we're the rebels.
- 26:57
- So the truth is, I can forgive myself all I want, but if I've offended him, then I need to be reconciled to him.
- 27:04
- And that's the message. That's what makes Jesus, I think, so beautiful is that he's love incarnate coming to chase rebels like you and me, totally broken people like us to forgive us as a gift through faith, not through anything we've ever done or ever will do.
- 27:19
- It's not because we're good. He's the only good one. That's love. Someone coming to give themselves and give everything of themselves to people who don't deserve it, to people who actually hate him most of our lives.
- 27:32
- That's beautiful. They teach that through your own good deeds and your own righteousness, you can essentially make yourself clean enough through your own obedience so that God can accept you.
- 27:44
- The Bible says that's impossible. That's why Jesus came to die because we cannot, we cannot ever earn our way back to God or be righteous enough because we're not.
- 27:53
- That's what makes him so beautiful, so amazing, is that he's the righteous one. He's blameless, and he gives us his righteousness and perfection as a gift forever.
- 28:05
- And that's how we have peace with God. When God sees us, he doesn't see us in the mess that we are, the hurting, broken, flawed mess that we are.
- 28:14
- He sees us in his Son as a gift. How are you, when you and I, you'd agree with biblical theology that we're lost and sinners, right?
- 28:24
- So how do I go from a lost sinner to a justified, saved person?
- 28:30
- And the question is, how does that gulf get bridged? Paul's theology, Jesus' theology, the
- 28:36
- Bible's theology is that through faith in Christ, trust in him, we are credited
- 28:41
- Christ's righteousness apart from any works. We stand before God with Christ's righteousness as a gift, not our own righteousness.
- 28:49
- That's Paul's theology in Philippians 3. I agree, 100%. But you actually said that it's your works that actuate that faith.
- 28:55
- Which I believe. I know, and that's not what Paul believed. If you and I are going to nail something down, we can only really nail it down where Paul does, and that's in the
- 29:04
- Old Testament, and that's on a single figure before Jonah, and it's Abraham. And what he says is this,
- 29:10
- Old Testament, this is before Jesus came to the earth, we have to agree with Paul here or we don't. That's all there is to it because Paul centers his whole view of justification on if you're going to be a descendant of Abraham and an heir of the promise of eternal life, you've got to have the same faith of Abraham.
- 29:25
- And what he says is this, Genesis 15, 6, Abraham believed God, it was credited to him, you know this, it was credited to him as righteousness.
- 29:34
- And Paul asked the question, this is the whole thing right here, dude, it settles it right now. He says, how is it credited to him?
- 29:41
- He says, ultimately, before circumcision or after? And the answer is, before.
- 29:48
- Like 20 years, no, not 20 years, but it was before circumcision and about 20 years before Isaac and the altar and about 400 years before the law.
- 29:56
- So Paul says this, if you're going to be an heir of Abraham, you've got to have his faith. It was before he did any work, any circumcision, any obedience with Isaac, any law.
- 30:07
- So here's the thing, Abraham's faith was pure, empty hand, not a thing. And he says, all of God's children ultimately have to have that faith apart from any work.
- 30:17
- Anybody who isn't in Christ has to answer to God for all of their unrighteousness, their sins.
- 30:23
- But for those who were in Christ, you have what Paul says in Philippians 3. Philippians 3, the apostle
- 30:29
- Paul says about his life, he says, according to the law, I was a Pharisee. He says, according to the law, blameless.
- 30:37
- And he says, he says, and I, he says, but all of this, I count as loss, all my good deeds, all my works, all being circumcised of the tribe of Benjamin, a
- 30:46
- Pharisee. He says, I count it all as loss, los scubalon, which is actually a pretty thick, strong word in the
- 30:52
- Greek. It actually is the strong, it's essentially a way of saying crap, the worst side of that, right?
- 30:59
- He says, I count it all as scubalon. He says, and I want to be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the law, but the one that comes from God through faith in Jesus.
- 31:08
- He said that through faith in Christ, you receive a righteousness that's not your own. He didn't want his good deeds or his righteousness to even be before the throne of God.
- 31:18
- He wanted the one that came as a gift in Christ through faith alone. That's what Paul says all believers have is
- 31:25
- Christ's righteousness. I think that's the big distinction between the Jesus and the gospel of this church and the true gospel is that we're saying that the righteousness that we all stand before God in is only
- 31:36
- Christ's and it's a gift. We don't stand before God with our quote unquote righteousness.
- 31:42
- The Bible says that our righteousness is as filthy rags. Because God is so holy. The Bible says that we are corrupt, we are hostile to God, enemies, rebels before God, we are dead in our sins and trespasses, that we have nothing because God is holy.
- 31:57
- The natural man is an enemy to God. That's right. Yes. And the Bible says there's no way to bridge that gulf through a mixture of faith and works.
- 32:06
- And a matter of fact, and I'll only point you to one thing. I know it's going to get crazy here in just a sec, right? I'll just point you to one thing, guys.
- 32:11
- Just read this tonight. And I'll commit to read something. You tell me to read something, I'll just point you to one thing that only has six chapters.
- 32:18
- The book of Galatians. Don't read it with anybody near you. Don't read it with even me trying to influence you.
- 32:25
- Just read Galatians 1 -6. Paul addresses specifically the kind of gospel that you're saying.
- 32:31
- That it's grace plus my works. He says that if you choose that route, you're under the curse of the law to fulfill all of it.
- 32:38
- And he says Christ has become of no effect to you. No effect to you. Whosoever of you attempts to be justified by the law, you've fallen from grace.
- 32:46
- Now, just forgive me for a second. He didn't say that to people who believed they had to earn their way to heaven. He said that to people who believed, yeah, it's
- 32:53
- God's grace. Yes, it's Jesus. But I've got to keep this one part of the law, this one part of the law, to be justified before God.
- 33:01
- You just said it. You just said it. I want to say this to you with humility.
- 33:07
- Everything you just said was a false gospel. The fact that you think that you even have half a bridge shows that you don't.
- 33:14
- No, I said 1 in 1 ,000. The fact that you think you have an inch of a bridge, a quarter of a bridge. Your righteousnesses are as filthy rags.
- 33:21
- You don't have a bridge. You're on the side of the gulf dead, bones.
- 33:27
- You need God's grace to put life in you, to give you a new heart. You need Jesus to give you a righteousness and to cover that way towards God all on his own.
- 33:35
- And that's only a gift. Every single religion in the world, all of them, even the ones that ape
- 33:41
- Christianity and try to blend Christ's work with works and righteousness, they all teach that in some way, you stand before God with your record of good deeds and bad deeds somehow, even if it's with Jesus somehow.
- 33:58
- He's in there too and it's also my righteousness, which is every religion that apes Christianity says that.
- 34:03
- It's, oh yeah, Jesus did his part, but it's also, you've got to have your righteousness. Every religion says that you stand before God with your record, your righteousness, before God.
- 34:12
- The Bible says all of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags before God. You probably already know that. But the
- 34:19
- Bible says in Philippians 3 as one example, Paul gives his resume. He says, as to the law, the
- 34:26
- Pharisee, as to zeal, I persecuted the church. He says, I was of the tribe of Benjamin.
- 34:31
- I was, he says, I was circumcised the eighth day. It's a big deal in Judaism. And he says, as to the law, as the righteousness and the law, he says, blameless.
- 34:40
- That's rather tongue -in -cheek because he says that nobody. But he says, as what you could see, blameless.
- 34:45
- He says, but whatever I had gained with that record of obedience, he says, I counted as skubalon, which is essentially the
- 34:54
- Greek way of saying shit. That's what he says in the Bible. He says, it's skubalon. That's how graphic he wants to get.
- 35:01
- He wants you to know that this record of righteousness before God is skubalon.
- 35:07
- And he says, and I want to be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the law, but that which comes from God through faith in Jesus.
- 35:17
- So what he says is that when you turn to Christ and you're in Christ through faith, you have
- 35:23
- Christ's righteousness. His obedience to the law is credited to you. Your guilt and sin and shame was credited to him.
- 35:31
- That's the great exchange. In Christ, you have his righteousness through faith.
- 35:37
- He took your debt. There's an exchange. And it's not that you get some of his righteousness.
- 35:44
- Right? If you stand before Christ, in Christ, before the Father, the
- 35:49
- Father sees you in his Son, in union with him. Christ's righteousness is your righteousness.
- 35:56
- The Father doesn't look at your life of sin and righteousness in terms of how you can have peace with him. If you're in his
- 36:01
- Son, you're united to him by faith. You have his righteousness as a gift. Your sin and guilt and shame went on Christ on the cross.
- 36:10
- And the only way to know that you are in Christ, that you have his righteousness, is through faith in Christ.
- 36:18
- But of course, it has to be Christ, not some other object or imagination.
- 36:26
- It's got to be Christ himself. And so, when I sin as a believer, I don't fall in and out of relationship with God.
- 36:36
- We're at peace today and not tomorrow. I have peace with God forever because of Christ, because of his righteousness.
- 36:45
- He took all my sin and debt on that tree 2 ,000 years ago. Not just for my sins today and yesterday, but all my sins.
- 36:53
- And so, as a believer, now in Christ, I have a life of sanctification where God is growing me and he's molding me and I'm dealing with personal sins and he's causing me to hate him.
- 37:03
- In Ezekiel 36, he causes me to observe his statutes. And so, God's not done with me.
- 37:09
- But I don't fall in and out of relationship with God while God is sanctifying me. And the way that I know on a personal level,
- 37:16
- I'm not talking about on a philosophical level, how do you know God's word is true? But I would say the way on a very personal level that I know what's up with God and I is the fact that God daily is sanctifying me, causes me to hate my sin, which
- 37:32
- I would have loved before. He causes me to desire him and to pursue holiness. That's the experience
- 37:38
- I have with God. But all of that holiness and that righteousness and all that obedience,
- 37:44
- I don't want any of it before God's throne. None of it. Because all of it before a holy
- 37:49
- God is scubalon. If it's not Christ's righteousness, it will not avail before God.
- 37:56
- Paul was speaking in the first century to the Judaizers that were teaching that if it's grace, it's faith in Jesus, he did all his work, but we need to have obedience to this one law in order to be justified before God.
- 38:08
- It's faith plus this one act of righteousness, obedience. He says anybody preaching that message should be eternally condemned by God.
- 38:16
- He says we are justified through faith in Christ apart from works of law. Nobody will justify.
- 38:23
- Well, what the Watchtower does teach, that it is based in some sense off your own works. You may say that, but it's not.
- 38:29
- It's not your actions and how you live your life. Right. Your obedience.
- 38:35
- Even the Bible itself says faith without works is dead. Amen. James said that, not telling us how to get saved.
- 38:41
- He was telling how do we know the difference between true living faith and false dead faith and based upon what it does.
- 38:48
- But it's only that faith that brings you to a place where God declares you righteous. Only faith alone.
- 38:54
- And the Bible explains our condition. It says all of us are in that place. We're not righteous. We're not good. We don't seek for God.
- 39:01
- It says, actually, there's no fear of God before our eyes. You know, it's amazing if you think about it.
- 39:07
- We could be on this beach in this glorious place with this ocean and the skies and just all this beauty.
- 39:14
- We can have all of this before us and still rebel against God.
- 39:20
- The God that we know is there. The God that we know exists. The God that we cannot escape from.
- 39:26
- It is inescapable. We can have no fear of Him, living in His world with Him putting breath in our lungs and causing our hearts to beat, feeding our bellies with McDonald's hamburgers from people who don't even know us and yet we can still turn away from this
- 39:44
- God. We still reject His goodness. We still reject His love.
- 39:51
- There is no fear of God before our eyes. Now that's the bad news. I told you that what
- 39:57
- Paul says God has for us is good news. And here it is. Despite the fact that God is holy and we are not.
- 40:06
- Despite the fact that God is full of wrath and judgment over our sins.
- 40:13
- Despite the fact that we heap scorn upon His goodness and His love.
- 40:19
- Despite the fact that He is merciful to us every day and we continue to run from Him. God in the person of Christ Christ the second person of the
- 40:32
- Trinity the eternal Son of God who has always existed with the
- 40:38
- Father in perfect fellowship. He took on flesh for an undeserving and unworthy people.
- 40:46
- He lived an obedient life. He had fear of the
- 40:51
- Father. He was righteous and obedient. He kept the law of God perfectly in every way that we have not.
- 41:00
- He did not go astray. He always sought the
- 41:05
- Father. He took on flesh to live that perfect sinless life and He died a death that all of us deserve.
- 41:14
- I want you to hear it. If you're struggling today I need you to hear this message.
- 41:21
- Jesus says in John 5 .24 Truly, truly I say to you he who hears my voice and believes
- 41:28
- Him who sent me has eternal life and does not come into judgment but is passed out of death into life.
- 41:37
- Jesus promises life and life abundantly. He says in John chapter 10 that He is the good shepherd that He lays
- 41:45
- His life down for the sheep that the sheep hear His voice and they come to Him.
- 41:51
- Oh, I don't know if you're a sheep today friends. I don't know if you belong to God and are a recipient of His grace but I hope that you have ears to hear this message.
- 42:02
- Jesus says that His sheep will hear His voice and they'll come and He says this beautiful thing. He says that you're in His hand and nothing can snatch you from His hand.
- 42:15
- He says that you're in His Father's hand and nothing can snatch you from His hand.
- 42:21
- He gave His life so that we could know Him. We could have peace with God.
- 42:29
- But this is what God calls us to. You need to hear this. All of that is beautiful and powerful and it expresses the love of God and the majesty of God but here's what you need to hear about the
- 42:41
- Gospel. Maybe you've heard the good news before about what God has done in Christ but you haven't heard this part of the message and that's that the
- 42:49
- Bible says repentance and faith would be preached in all the nations.
- 42:55
- The call to repent and to believe the good news. To repent means to have a change of mind, to turn around, to turn away from where you're going and to turn to God in faith.
- 43:09
- Maybe you've heard this message of God's love and His forgiveness before.
- 43:15
- Maybe you've heard about the glories of Jesus and you've wondered why am I still on a beach with a needle in my arm or meth in my body?
- 43:27
- How come I can't get free when I've heard this message? And I want to say to you maybe you haven't heard the call of the
- 43:33
- Gospel which is to repent and to believe, to turn away from sin and unrighteousness and to turn to God, the living
- 43:42
- God in faith, to put your faith in Jesus Christ to receive the gift of eternal life and righteousness.
- 43:49
- You see, that is the beauty of the Gospel, the glory of the Gospel, the good news is that though my sin has separated me from God, Christ brings me near to God.
- 43:59
- Though I have no righteousness that avails before a holy God, Christ gives me
- 44:04
- His righteousness as a gift through faith. The call of the
- 44:10
- Gospel is to repent and to believe. Turn from sin to God and put your faith in Jesus in His perfect life and death and resurrection.
- 44:19
- Receive the gift of eternal life. Be freed from your sin, your powerlessness, your helplessness, your unrighteousness.
- 44:27
- Be forgiven. Be reconciled to God. And here is the promise of life. If you turn to Christ, you will live.
- 44:35
- If you have faith in Christ and His work and salvation, you will stand in God's grace.
- 44:41
- You will never fall. God says never, no never, not even a chance will
- 44:47
- I leave you. God will never leave you. God will never ever let you depart from His hands.
- 44:53
- He gives you His grace and mercy in Christ and it's abundant. He's able to save you to the uttermost.
- 45:00
- Everybody who draws near to God through Jesus, all you must do is turn to God and live.
- 45:07
- Turn and put your faith in Christ and live. The apostles and Jesus would come into people's lives and they would call them to turn from sin to put their faith.
- 45:18
- Be reconciled to God now. So there's a moment in their life that they could point to to say that is where I turned from sin to put my faith in Christ to be saved, to be forgiven.
- 45:30
- It's not like a pattern of well I've tried to work through this cycle and do all these things to get to a place where I feel like I'm right with God.
- 45:38
- But it was really a call. Come and die or don't come. It wasn't like fix yourself up, climb this ladder and then maybe you get to God.
- 45:46
- It was you come to Christ from where you're at right now and you put your faith in Jesus to be saved, to be reconciled to God, to be given the gift of eternal life.
- 45:55
- That you need to really study the holiness of God and His law to realize that you have not kept His law perfectly today.
- 46:01
- You do not know. You are judging falsely. And since you said that you did violate
- 46:07
- God's law yesterday, James says you're guilty of all of it. So according to God's law, you violated all of it.
- 46:17
- He's talking about the law of Moses and I can violate all of the law of Moses because the law of Moses no longer applies to us because Jesus took that away.
- 46:25
- Even though in Romans Paul says do we make void the law through faith?
- 46:32
- He says may it never be. He says we establish the law because of faith in Jesus.
- 46:40
- Contradicted you, sir? Chapter and verse. No, no, no. Yes, sir. The law was done away with in Christ.
- 46:46
- Even though Jesus says in Matthew 5, may namasete, do not even begin to think that I have come to destroy the law and the prophets.
- 46:54
- I did not come to destroy it but to fulfill it. So He came to fulfill it. Right. To put it into its proper place.
- 46:59
- Do you practice circumcision anymore for religious reasons? No, because the text of the Bible tells us that circumcision was meant to pass away.
- 47:08
- Right? It was that symbol of the covenant was meant to go away. That rudimentary part of the covenant was meant to go away.
- 47:15
- I am circumcised, by the way, in my heart. Which is the true circumcision.
- 47:22
- So, I would agree with that. Fantastic. We did it again. Number two. The thing is that, again, where was
- 47:32
- I going? Listen, I've got to go ahead and add more tracks. I would encourage you to repent and turn to Christ. You're believing in a false god and a false gospel.
- 47:39
- And I would encourage you to read John chapter 1 verses 1 -15.
- 47:44
- You are actually committing sin by telling me that. What? I don't understand that. By falsely judging me, you are committing sin by telling me that.
- 47:52
- God teaches us in his word. You are committing a lie.
- 48:01
- You're lying, okay? Just flat out lying. I'll tell you what God says. God says in his word that he's the only God, there's none before him, none after.
- 48:08
- You believe that there were and you can become one. He says in his word that you'll never be justified through the law. You believe that you will.
- 48:15
- And that's a false god and a false gospel. Please come to Christ for life. And one of the things that God says in his word,
- 48:22
- Jesus says, I'm the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me. Was he right? In a certain sense, that is true.
- 48:29
- He said he's the only way to God. If you don't have him, you're going to die in your sins. Well, that's not the only thing he said.
- 48:36
- Well, there's plenty more like that, but he said that he was the only way to reconciliation with the Father. That's not the only thing he said.
- 48:43
- What did he say when the young rich man asked him, what do I need to do to have eternal life? He knew the man.
- 48:51
- He knew what he had not done. He knew what he was not willing to give up. And he knew he had not truly kept the commandments.
- 48:58
- And he said, go sell everything you own. What did he say first? He said, you know the commandments. And he starts listing off the commandments.
- 49:05
- And then the rich young ruler thinks that he's done it. And Jesus says, here's what you lack.
- 49:12
- Sell everything you own. Give it to the poor. Because he knows that the rich young ruler has not kept
- 49:18
- God's law in terms of what he's supposed to do with his money. God's commandments and his law regarding money had a lot to do with how you treat the poor.
- 49:27
- And so what he told him, this is what you have not done. You haven't kept God's law. He says, sell everything you own. Give it to the poor.
- 49:32
- And here's what you lack. Come follow me. And when people heard Jesus say that to the rich young ruler, they said, how can anyone get into heaven then?
- 49:39
- And Jesus says, with men it's impossible. With God, all things are possible through Christ alone.
- 49:45
- In that passage, Jesus teaches you to follow him. I can give you a number of places, but you've rejected the one
- 49:55
- I gave you. He says, I'm the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me. Was he right or wrong?
- 50:02
- The creator of everything, he stepped into this existence.
- 50:08
- He stepped into this fallen world to redeem and to save that which was lost.
- 50:16
- He comes into the world, God, Jesus, the second person of the Trinity.
- 50:21
- He comes into the world. He lives the life that you and I have failed. We are rebels against God.
- 50:28
- We do not obey God's law. We choose rather our darkness than his light.
- 50:34
- We don't want the God who made all things. And that God stepped into the world to live the life that we have failed.
- 50:43
- He was perfectly obedient in every way, in all the ways that we are not obedient.
- 50:49
- He was obedient in thought, word, and deed. He was perfect, and he died a death that you and I deserve.
- 50:58
- You see, the glory in the Gospel is that Jesus takes my punishment.
- 51:04
- He takes my sin. He takes the death that I deserve and you deserve, and he conquers that death, and he rises again from the dead.
- 51:14
- Jesus is alive today, friends. He's alive. He lives forevermore to make intercession for the rebels like you and me.
- 51:24
- He lives to bring peace between sinners and God, and he accomplished a salvation that was a once -for -all sacrifice.
- 51:34
- There's nothing you can add to it. There's nothing you can do. You cannot put anything before God's feet that would ultimately redeem yourselves.
- 51:44
- You cannot put any righteousnesses before God that would ultimately make up for all of your rebellion against God, nor me.
- 51:52
- And the call of the Gospel, of the good news, is that Jesus is
- 51:58
- God. He's the Messiah. He lived perfectly, righteously.
- 52:03
- He died for sinners, and he rose again from the dead. He's ascended, and he is seated on his throne, and the call of the good news is to repent of your sin and believe the
- 52:13
- Gospel. Turn away from your sin and your darkness and come to the true and living
- 52:20
- Jesus to be redeemed and forgiven, to experience God's grace and peace and mercy.
- 52:28
- God's Word says that the wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who by their unrighteousness, listen, suppress the truth.
- 52:41
- For that which is known about God is evident within them, for God has shown it to them. You know what that's saying?
- 52:47
- It's saying that the problem in humanity is a suppression of truth, holding the truth down.
- 52:53
- The problem in humanity is that people know the true God, but they don't want
- 52:59
- Him. They don't want God in their knowledge. They profess to be wise, and they become fools.
- 53:08
- You know, it's interesting. If you want to think about how does that Word from God flesh itself out?
- 53:15
- What would it look like for people to profess to be wise and then actually become fools? And what
- 53:21
- I would say is there really truly is no better indication of the truthfulness of that passage than what takes place right here in this moment.
- 53:28
- You profess to be wise. You profess to know, to understand, to have wisdom.
- 53:36
- But you become a fool. A fool! You have an indefensible position, and yet you spend your
- 53:45
- Saturday morning outside of a location that is killing little boys and girls, and you're protecting it.
- 53:52
- You are standing for the murder of children. God's Word says that a result of the fall is that we exchange the truth of God for a lie.
- 54:04
- We don't want God. We don't want His truth. We don't want His justice, His standards. So we switch it for a lie, and we switch
- 54:12
- God for idols. And God's Word says that a result of the fall is that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
- 54:22
- So here is the thing that needs to be heard. Please, I beg of you to hear this. When we're standing out here today proclaiming to you the foolishness of your position, and we're condemning what you're doing because you are destroying little children, we want you to hear from us that we're in this with you in terms of we're all falling short of the glory of God outside of Christ.
- 54:45
- We're all guilty. We're coming to you as people who have been redeemed. Our eyes have been opened.
- 54:51
- Our hearts have been changed. Jesus died for sinners. He's changed us and saved us.
- 54:57
- We're coming to you as transformed people who have received God's love and His grace, and we're pleading that grace out to you and that love out to you.
- 55:06
- But you still have to hear it. You have to hear about your need.
- 55:12
- It's not a hatred for you. It is the love for God and love for you that motivates us to come out here today to reach you with the truth.
- 55:25
- We want you to know God and be forgiven and have the grace of God above you, below you, around you.
- 55:32
- We want you to know the forgiveness and freedom and love that you can have in Jesus Christ as a gift by God's grace.
- 55:42
- Through faith in Jesus, the call is to turn from your sin to trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and salvation.
- 55:51
- That's the call. That's why we're here today. We're not just here for the children that we pray
- 55:57
- God has mercy on and they are saved and delivered from this place. We're not just here for the mothers and fathers.
- 56:04
- We are also here to reach out in love for you, and we pray that you know
- 56:14
- Jesus, that you would know Him as Savior and Lord, that you'd experience the joy of salvation and life.
- 56:22
- Nobody out here on this sidewalk deserves the grace of God that we have or His love.
- 56:29
- This is a gift of God's grace that He's brought us to Himself, but we are here today as His children pleading with you to know
- 56:39
- God, to save those children. Go read
- 56:44
- Romans 3 and 4 and just sit there and let it speak, not Jeff, not some other, just let the text speak.
- 56:52
- He justifies the ungodly and it says this, how about David? How did it happen with David?
- 56:58
- It says, God credited to him righteousness apart from works. And then it says,
- 57:05
- Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, whose sins have been covered. Blessed is the man to whom the
- 57:11
- Lord will not count his sin. So through faith in Jesus, we get a righteousness apart from any works, and we also have all of our sins washed away.
- 57:20
- And it's through faith like Abraham's. What did Abraham offer God? Not a thing.
- 57:27
- So the question is, is which gospel is true? Because in Galatians chapter 1, the Apostle Paul is dealing with a false gospel in the first century.
- 57:33
- They were saying Jesus, they were saying Heavenly Father, they were saying salvation, cross, resurrection, all that stuff, same stuff.
- 57:40
- And he says that it's a different gospel. And he says if He, or any of the
- 57:46
- Apostles, or an angel came from Heaven and preached any other gospel, let them be anathema, eternally condemned forever.
- 57:54
- And do you know what they were teaching? They were saying, yes, Jesus is God, yes, He rose again from the dead, all that's true, the
- 57:59
- Bible is the Word of God, we stand on that. They were saying this, if you don't keep this one aspect of the
- 58:05
- Jewish law, circumcision, if you don't at least keep that sign of the covenant, at least keep that, plus faith in Jesus, then you're not saved.
- 58:13
- And Paul says this, you have become estranged from Christ, severed from Him, and whosoever of you attempts to be justified by the law, you've fallen from grace.
- 58:23
- So he says it's either faith in Christ alone and what He's accomplished as a gift to you, or you must now go under the law and actually fulfill all of it.
- 58:32
- The gospel is about the glory of God. It's a story of God's redemption and saving sinful, unworthy people.
- 58:44
- It's a story that begins before the world did. It's a story of us,
- 58:49
- God creates us, man, in the garden, in perfect fellowship with Him, unstained by rebellion, brokenness, sin.
- 59:02
- And the fall enters into God's creation, and God does something that is unexpected.
- 59:10
- Rather than doing what God should do, could do, because He's holy,
- 59:16
- God promises to save. He doesn't come in and simply bring the curse, but He promises first the
- 59:26
- Messiah, the woman's seed, who will come in and through this work, the woman's seed will crush the head of the serpent and be bruised on His heel.
- 59:37
- There's a story of God's grace flowing through history. It's a story that God tells in vivid detail and high definition about the
- 59:44
- Messiah. Long before Jesus has ever walked on the earth in His earthly ministry, God told us every detail necessary to know
- 59:53
- Jesus as Savior and as Lord. The story is God's coming to save,
- 59:59
- Isaiah 9, verses 6 through 7. A son is coming, a child is coming, and He will be called wonderful counselor,
- 01:00:07
- El Gibor, which is an exclusive name of God, the mighty God, the Father of eternity.
- 01:00:13
- The Bible says, of the increase of His government and of peace, there will be no end. The Bible tells us when
- 01:00:20
- He's coming, Daniel chapter 9, that He'd be cut off before the destruction of the second temple.
- 01:00:26
- The Bible tells us about His life and ministry, that He would, Isaiah 53, be wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities.
- 01:00:36
- The chastisement for our peace would be upon Him and by His wounds we'd be healed. He'd be pierced through for our transgressions, that He would be numbered among the transgressors, that He would be the one that would justify the many as He would bear our iniquities.
- 01:00:52
- He'd be counted among the rebels, the Bible tells us. But that's not all.
- 01:00:57
- That's not all. The Bible tells us that this Messiah who's coming, is coming to bring salvation and forgiveness, that He would redeem us from our sins, but there's more.
- 01:01:08
- He would actually be coming to bring a kingdom, His rule in history.
- 01:01:14
- Daniel 7, verses 13 through 14, Daniel sees this vision and he says,
- 01:01:21
- Behold, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man, and that He came up to the ancient of days and was presented before Him and to Him was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom that all the people's nations and men of every language might serve
- 01:01:34
- Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.
- 01:01:41
- This Messiah was coming to bring a kingdom that would bring the knowledge of God throughout the earth like the waters cover the sea and the most popular verse in the
- 01:01:52
- New Testament drawn from the Old is Psalm 110 .1 That this Messiah must reign until all of God's enemies are placed under His feet as a footstool for His feet.
- 01:02:05
- That He would have victory. That this Messiah would bring forgiveness and salvation through His death and resurrection and that His rule would extend to the ends of the earth bringing the nations to God and that's where we're at now.
- 01:02:19
- The good news of forgiveness and salvation eternal life only in Christ and what
- 01:02:25
- He has accomplished. We are wretches. We are miserable sinners. We are so rebellious against God that if possible we would spit at the very clouds.
- 01:02:37
- That's our condition and God loves sinners so much that He took upon Himself flesh lived a sinless life that we have not died.
- 01:02:49
- The death that we should die was buried and rose again. He is ascended and seated and He calls men everywhere to repent to turn from darkness to light to God to trust in this
- 01:03:03
- Messiah for forgiveness and salvation. That's the call of the Gospel but listen this Gospel is not just about my salvation only it's the
- 01:03:13
- Gospel of the Kingdom about God rescuing sinners redeeming the sinful and bringing
- 01:03:22
- His rule to the ends of the earth reversing what happened in the garden finding the curse as far as it's found and destroying it.
- 01:03:32
- And then Jesus returns in final victory after all God's enemies are put under His feet.
- 01:03:38
- God the victor Jesus the Messiah conquering death
- 01:03:44
- God taking what man did in the world and reversing it to His glory.
- 01:03:52
- That's the story of this Messiah and you can know Him you can know
- 01:03:58
- Him by turning from sin and trusting in Christ and in His work alone abandoning sin abandoning self -righteousness and coming to this
- 01:04:07
- Messiah for redemption and the gift of eternal life but you gotta come the Bible says to turn and to believe that's the call of the
- 01:04:16
- Gospel it's good news for sinners it's good news for the unworthy it's good news for me it's the good news of His Kingdom that's the call come to Christ Jesus says truly, truly
