Hey everyone, so people keep sharing with me this article from The Cripplegate that gives more information about this Steve Lawson inappropriate relationship, which should probably just be called an affair and They want to know I guess what I think about it.
I don't have a lot to say. It's not something I want to dedicate a whole episode to. I think I've already said my piece on it but I will reaffirm what I've said before which is that I think there's a lot of really unusual ecclesiology at play here where Steve Lawson is.
Apparently we find out now He has left the church and it wouldn't be wise apparently for him to return to the church that he was at when this sin was going on and It wouldn't be prudent according to some of the counselors, which are a third party, I guess.
Third party counselors not the elders at his church, but it wouldn't be prudent for him to publicly make a statement about it of Repentance or just admission or you know anything and it so it's just. It's so weird to me because you look at like Peter and how Paul rebuked him.
It was a public sin public rebuke, right? It was a serious thing. This is a serious thing. A lot of people looked up to Steve Lawson. It's a public sin. What do you expect? Right people who have been under Steve Lawson's influence in his various ministry Capacities are gonna have questions and they're gonna talk about it.
They're gonna wonder it's gonna probably tempt some of them. Scripture talks about this leaders have the potential to tempt others into sin when they sin you're even instructed to be careful when Spiritually restoring someone lest you be tempted.
But I also think of the importance of the local church comforting someone who's truly repentant. Which is apparently what this blog is saying is that well, he is truly repentant. And so there isn't need to go through all the Matthew 18 stuff.
Okay, great. So shouldn't he be at his local church receiving the comfort that 2nd Corinthians 2 talks about for someone who's in sin who's repentant? It's time for the church to not ostracize him but come around him and comfort him and be part of the restoration process.
But not those things aren't happening here because of the celebrity. Let's just face it. It's the celebrity status of Steve Lawson. If he was treated like any other sinner in a church should be treated in a similar situation.
Who isn't a celebrity in the Christian world then it would be simple you keep going to the same church. You receive comfort from those people you confess it you do so publicly because it's a public sin.
It's been revealed publicly. The elders are the ones working with you directly to restore you. It doesn't mean you can't have third party counselors, but they're not the primary authorities in this whole thing is just bonkers.
Figured I just say my piece on that. There you go for those sending me that story. I hope that helps and I mean if there's any lesson to pull from it and it's a sad lesson is just because someone has A PhD or a THD or they're big hot shot at some seminary or Bible ministry or church.
I'm all for authority. I think we need an Authority we need a renewed rejuvenated class of Christian elites like we need you're gonna have elites. But I don't think that that means that they are beyond the pale and can't be Held to the authority of Scripture the authority of Scripture is where we make our stand not the authority of people.
When it conflicts with Scripture, so that's what I think Scripture says and I think it's in Contradiction to the way this whole thing's being handled.
