We're gonna have an open conversation we're gonna have a recap of the Conference that happened at the end of April stick with us.

Don't rely on our conversation to change your life. We the only Message that can change lives is the message of the gospel and in God's Word So I would

I would change that but don't get me wrong. I appreciate a AI and The technology that we have today

It never necessarily said positively They may become extremely bored and go to sleep or enjoy what we're saying or I mean

There's tons of life changes doesn't always have to be positive. That is true So we've got we've got a big a big open sweet spot for us to land in No, whether it be positive or negative

Well, we are We are on the other side of the 2024 labor's conference

I will tell you what my aim and goals are in the future and especially the near future and if you haven't already seen

I'm aiming to do is Is Be clean Do things with excellence

For the glory of God. I won't as we are as the

Holy Spirit is working on us to reflect himself I hope that that would carry over into the things that we create the conversations that we have and so I Would I Want it to look good for the

Lord and I want our conversations to be pleasing to him as well So everything that we do we would do unto the

Lord. And so that's that's my goal moving forward and Hopefully you'll see some of those good changes

Yeah, so how did you feel overall about the conference then it was it was good

Overall it was good. I've been to A couple couple conferences on a couple hosted by the

Bible college that I went to and then I went to the That one the the banner of truth conference

In in Pennsylvania the East Coast ministers conference and that that was good and I really enjoyed the free books because they had they had a

My damaged book room they say everybody go in there and get five So you get five bucks, so it was good and they had all sorts of other stuff.

It was good but I'll tell you what leaving out of the

The laborers conference was the most refreshed. I'd ever felt leaving out of a conference

I Don't know what it is. A lot of times the conferences that are so action -packed There's so much going on that you end up leaving out of there

You know, you're edified. You're you're full, but you're you're tired right,

I left out of The laborers conference and Call me

Get out of here. Anyway So one thing about Apple products if you got it on your phone is good

They're gonna try to call you and it'll show up on your computer and everything else But I left out of the laborers conference feeling refreshed like I had some energy

Not because we didn't do anything, but because I don't know why it was just it was it was a good time

It was good stuff left out full, you know hearing lots of good preaching lots of convicting messages things to think about things that apply and Then just refreshed

I Felt the same way It's it's a little overwhelming for me

Kind of I want I'm wanting to make sure things Are running smoothly running well, everything is going going well and and I would

Kelly and I were trying to make sure the Everything got videoed and we had some hiccups with with the video and audio at the beginning

But but the Lord saw fit to to see us through those things and we got We got everything videoed.

He got good quality audio. So we're thankful to the Lord for that and Some some of the other guys made a comment about the the conference not being overwhelming but being more relaxed and you know,

I want to say this publicly publicly to one of the things that I failed to mention to the The the folks at Reformation Baptist Church was you know, they were great they were so kind especially when it come to being flexible, we had some hiccups with a schedule and Lunch cumbersome and which is a good thing we we had opportunity to have a conversation with one another and we want to engage one another there was tons of conversation happening and so That Pushed our time back a little bit or forward but it but it was

It kind of did but it kind of didn't Day two we we finished up early went to lunch

I had some hiccups at lunch still got back and and I think I finished my sermon before I was supposed to start it

Yeah It'll work out it all worked out and and so that's something that I want to keep in mind for next year when we when we plan and organize the the schedule the the speaking arrangements

What can we do so that it's not it's not overbearing overwhelming for the speakers for?

Those in attendance, how can we make it a joyful and restful experience? I wanted to I especially wanted to be a restful experience for for the speakers for you guys who are traveling

I mean you guys who traveled really traveled and Some of you guys that traveled

Had other issues going on even at the conference that that just could have you know, it could have bummed them out

Tremendously and made things negative, but there was such a sweet spirit such trust in the

Lord and positive spirit and kindness From everyone that We were able to look over those those few negative things and And have a really really great time with one another and our fellowship

Outside of the conference our time that we were able to spend together Was wonderful.

No, we don't we don't get to do that throughout the year You know, we only get to see each other just like you see us.

We only see each other virtually throughout the year so that this one time of year is special for us because we get to see each other face -to -face and and spend some some time together and it was it was really good and It shouldn't it shouldn't surprise us but there's there's something different when you are people people you don't even know people that you you know, really and You don't you don't know them.

Well you You've only known them for a short period of time These people are not people that you you grew up with I say all that to say we shouldn't be surprised, but it's such a

Wonderful blessing that the Lord gives us when we come together like that some of us were we're living and staying together in the same house and We we got a long great conversation we we loved on one another and Yeah The the

Lord does that? Yep, when families couples are are together for any length of time and there's there's

No friction. No conflict the the Lord Leads us to treat each other like the brothers and sisters that we are.

Mm -hmm such a one. It's a wonderful experience Also really neat to know that that the the numbers up there at the top of our screen anyway

I don't know if anybody else can see it Probably not that says that there's like four or five people watching to know that those are actually real people that will talk to you

I thought they were just putting stuff up there make us feel good about ourselves, but Apparently people who are actually actually watching us it's good that's another thing that come out at the conference when

Pastor Claude he he gave the congregation opportunity at the end of the conference to speak to us and And you had members of his congregation that were saying hey, we watch you guys

Yeah, we we like what you're doing We watch you guys and we appreciate you guys and to to put like you said to put faces with those numbers

Yeah, it's such it was such a blessing that the

Lord is a bit of motivation knowing that you were able to To bless real folks that you're actually, you know

It's it's good. No, what was it? I said Now that I said it was in the

Psalms What would uh Behold how very good it is a pleasant thing to see you when brothers joined to live as one in peace and unity

Yes That was so appropriate that was such a blessing to hear that I didn't write it so it was in the

Psalms right, right, but but the fact that you Was that something that you the

Lord brought to you or or something that you had come across there the conference or had you planned? To use that I didn't plan to use it until like lunch

Like maybe like 30 minutes 45 minute or hour or so before hour and a half before for the sermon

Yeah, I didn't plan on using that at all But it gave when we at least the the

Atlantic Presbytery of the RPC and a when we gather together We we end our time together with that song

You know and it hasn't always been No pleasant At presbytery meetings, there's sometimes some hard things that have to go on no difficult conversations or whatnot

But we try to remind remind ourselves that you know, why are we here?

What are we here for we're here because God has called us together to live in unity with him and with one another

So, yeah, it's something that in the We probably could have sung that song because apparently it's to the tune of Oh for a thousand tongues to sing

So you would have had to let us And well, I could have done action. In fact,

I just like music at the church this past Sunday Learned how to do the whole you know

I'll watch the video with you doing I know you can do it. Oh Goodness, you also would have saw that.

I messed up the lines I Can I can do two two or three things?

I can either sing the right words Or keep the tempo or have the right tune.

So sometimes I had the right tune in the right tempo by singing the wrong words. Oh Well speaking of the conference

They were good. I liked all of them, I Don't know.

I don't know what else you can say Well Let me get an overview for people who don't know that the conference topic this year was the

Holy Spirit So we went over a different, you know aspects of the Holy Spirit, you know reminding ourselves that the

Holy Spirit is a person of the Trinity Evangelism salvation the church, you know different works and unity and Bible understanding the

Bible How's the Holy Spirit function in the life of the church? And what how can we relate to him?

And it was I Don't know my brain works funky.

I don't necessarily remember Almost anything Anyone said but what

I do remember is the overall thrust of the conference That that Convicted me that I need to rely upon the person and work of the

Holy Spirit Mm -hmm Actively because it's easy to rely upon the person work of the

Holy Spirit passively Here's what I mean by that by saying, you know, I know that God's working all things out for my good.

I know that he's He's doing this that or the other thing I know that he's working in my sanctification and I know that he's gifted me for this or that but but to actually rely upon his power for For what it is that you need to do in the

Christian life to pray constantly God send your spirit so I can be free from this sin that I can be freed from temptation that I can

Give a good gospel witness at this point in In the week that I can know preach a good message this

Sunday or I can listen to a message Now give me the the focus to be able to pray for my church and the people around me and and just to actively

Trust in the power of the Holy Spirit instead of just remembering that he's there and then kind of just going on about your business like he's not

To actively trust in the Lord and that was really the thrust of each person's message

Trust in the Lord actively by remembering him trust in the Lord actively by relying upon the power of the

Holy Spirit for evangelism and Not your own giftings, you know, even though your own giftings are good

Because they come from the Lord, you know Actively rely on the power of the

Holy Spirit and that that's really what I took away from the conference as a whole You know each of the sermons

Yes, I don't know. It's a good thing to take away. I think Well, and my goal is to go back and listen to each one of them again, yeah, absolutely

I really want to go back and listen to each one and and On my own so that I can digest them better.

I can listen to them better where I'm not trying to concentrate on other things and I really want to get all the details because they were so good and I I was able to understand from the very first sermon that Dan I feel like I feel like what we had at the conference was a legit actual demonstration from the

Holy Spirit of what a Healing service Directed by the

Holy Spirit looks like not not a fake or simulated

Healing service that you may see or that you may have heard of but a legit directed healing service

By the Holy Spirit and and that started with the first sermon for me because what did we have we had the the preached word and We we had it handled correctly, we had it how handled rightly and we submitted to that knowledge and Repented where there was conviction and We just let the

Holy Spirit Do his work we didn't try to manipulate him. We didn't try to Invite him, you know to come and and do a work we were obedient to him.

We we preached his word and we exalted Christ and Just yielded to him to do to do his work that's where the

The refreshment come from that that healing spiritual Emotion in the ordinary means of grace

Yes Yes, exactly. Um Yeah, and we you know, we we didn't have the

Lord's Supper baptism But which we shouldn't have we were not a church. We we weren't having a church service but but we were pre we were praying we were preaching the word and we were

Singing beautiful songs. Thank you to Eden Chapel who let us in some beautiful music

Maybe Dan one of these days we will incorporate some Psalter in there Which I would

I would absolutely love to I would appreciate that a lot But it was it was a beautiful thing to to just step back and let the

Holy Spirit Do what he wanted to do. Mm -hmm And so I wouldn't

I wouldn't worry. What did the what did you take away from the conference? What was your main overall?

Take away from the conference that that was pretty pretty much a summary of what

I What I come away with I come away with that refreshing. I like I said from the very first sermon

I was coming away from Healing I felt like from the Holy Spirit because I was going into the conference with Which which is

I'm I'm not the only one who? suffers and and deals with with these things, but I was going into the conference with some anxiety with some

You know negative negative feelings negative thoughts But Just to hear his word and and let the

Holy Spirit use his word to convict me and To bring healing to me

That that was a huge takeaway from the conference It wasn't about any

Any one person it wasn't about any Christian celebrity

It wasn't about us being of complete like -mindedness like what we call an echo chamber where we're we can just amen one another all weekend long and and build each other up and and build up our

Our common theology it wasn't about that. It was about hearing the word and letting the

Holy Spirit have his way and what he wanted to do in our hearts and And I believe that's what happened and that was the takeaway for me

From the conference and good stuff. And again, I can't say enough about ref

Ramada Baptist Church They were so encouraging and and they did so many

They had they had already been preparing for us weeks weeks months in advance.

They had been praying for us They've been preparing the church for us. They they set up In their in their fellowship area

You know snacks and coffee not just for the speakers but for the attendees and so they they did so many wonderful things to make the conference a success and we we praise the

Lord for ref Ramada Baptist Church and Pastor Claude and in April and and all the guys there and Jeremy who who ran the sound just so thankful for those guys and want to mention

Imago Dei ministry who was there and they they are They are faithfully fighting the cause against abortion and and abolition and we had a diaper drop there and they received

I know that they they definitely had at least one mother in mind that that was going to receive those diapers and receive help because she had she had chosen the life for her child and And so we what's up haps.

How you doing, brother? We know specifically that they had in mind at least one mother but we were glad and we were happy that we could do that diaper drive for Imago Dei and And help out that ministry help out mothers who who choose life who who are in need thankful to brother

Michael Schultz who last -minute voluntarily stepped in to to fill in for one of our brothers that couldn't come and He spoke on the unity of the

Spirit which was another one that I look forward to going back and listening to So many good things have been said about his sermon and and a spirit empowered unity that we should look for and have

Very thankful for him and the work that he's doing at his church the work that he's doing at Forge Theological Seminary, which

I am interested in looking into You can find you can find the seminary online for the theological seminary, it's just $60 a month

And I think you have 20 21 weeks to finish a course But it's just $60 a month.

It's not 15 $20 ,000 a semester So they are seeking to give quality theological education at an affordable price and so I appreciate the brothers there and what they're doing and seriously considering going myself and I look forward to that Any other any other things you want to say about the conference

I Really want to be diligent and do well at planning to make sure we meet all those goals of things that we

Enjoyed this year and Make it special for everyone next year.

We're going to come back to Newton next year for the conference we don't know what all the the future holds for us and what the

Lord has in store for us concerning next year's conference with that theme because It just reminds me of the scripture that says the the wisdom of the world is foolishness

Or the wisdom of the Lord is foolishness to men the preaching of the cross is foolishness to men and and those concepts

Take up that cross who who wants to live their life dying to their own desires and their needs or or wants

Who in their flesh wants to live that way and then victory and death? Those things sound so ox oxymoronic

That they do not go together from a worldly perspective

But in Christianity the seat the seed must die so that there can be life and so the diving into these concepts and Taking up our cross daily following Christ and finding victory in death.

I Like you said, I'm looking forward to what the Lord has in store for that Good stuff.

Topics that you'd like to us to address in the next coming weeks months in this year 2024

Dan and I Really want to dive into I don't know.

I Don't know who has the most desire to dive into this probably me. I'm not sure but We'll see.

What is it? Well, the the subject you and I were talking about before we went on air covenant covenant theology

And we've talked about this before on the podcast. What does it mean to be reformed? Part of being reformed is holding to covenant theology and so as As the screen says one of us is a

Baptist and one of us is a Presbyterian and and we both claim Covenantal theology, but what does that mean from a

Baptist perspective? What does that mean from a Presbyterian perspective? But ultimately, I mean

I want to know those things but ultimately what I want to know is

Is what we have in common where we find common ground and And looking at those small details of where we find common ground there's something within me that that really feels like Getting down to those small details of things that we have in common can can really help us

Get over those hills of differences I know

Dan and I both as Eschatologically, we're coming from a postmill perspective.

So we we believe that the Lord is The the kingdom is is here

Christ is reigning and he is doing a work. He's going to continue to do his work and And and fill fill the earth with with his kingdom

Don't know how long he is going to take to do that but it's going it going to go in a

Second coming all the way to the second coming and that trajectory is is going to be in his favor hmm, and So and I say that to say at some point

These things are going to be figured out Why not start talking about them? I mean we may have to you know, at some point we're going to get rid of Presbyterian Baptist Other denominational names that that's eventually going to happen because Christ is going to help us in our theological understanding and bring true unity in In theology and and right now we're just mere humans mere mortals

Trying to figure this out and and we want to do that with humility Being led by the

Spirit into into all truth So it sounds like you want to talk a little bit about Catholicity then sure the

Universal Church. Mm -hmm Yeah, let's city some proper ecumenism

Now I like a good cucumber salad That's what

I heard you say you come I Said proper ecumenism

Find your terms. We gotta leave some something on some meat on the bone. So people will come back Well, no, it's how am

I working together? Yeah, brother joining to live as one in peace and unity But without we want to make this clear to We don't want to compromise on the the found is foundational issues the core foundational issues of Scripture the the things that we do not compromise on we do not waver on and we will not waver on We we all and and that's what binds us.

That's what holds us together Is is those core fundamental truths of God's Word?

Yep Yeah Yeah We have to offer grace,

I mean we have to remember the gospel we're we're not all on the same

Theological level we're not all on the same Theosis level

Godhead Oh second amendment violation second commandment violation sometimes

I get confused with these Abbreviations gotcha see to be to CB second commandment violations.

Where do I where do I stand on that? Where do you stand on violating the Decalogue Rob?

We have a whole episode on it we can have a whole whole episode on that I mean The the first thing that I think about when it comes to that issue

I think about history and I think about the the reaction of our forefathers our

Protestant forefathers who who Were tired of the idolatry

And so they would they would go into their their churches and they would they ripped out

All the all the pictures and and took everything that was idolatrous that they they venerated

They sometimes worship any anything that they would deem to be a second commandment violation they they pulled all that stuff out and And put it put it to the fire so they that they were not guilty of breaking the second amendment

So I admire I admire that I admire that a lot.

Well, Rob's thinking this one over Yeah, I One thing that I'd really like to to go over and it would take us until the next laborers conference and we're to do it

Mm -hmm would be the attributes of God not just attributes, but his

The the being and attributes of God Because I'll be honest with you.

I'm most the way through this a second volume of a systematic theology right now and The the most

Edifying and Eye -opening theology that I've read in a long time is where I was pressed into the scriptures to learn about who

God is and what he's Like and what that means to us and it's just been incredible I think that'd be beneficial for for all of us to kind of go through, you know

What does it mean for God to be infinite? You know, what does that mean? You know, how many people have fought against that?

You know, why do they say that God's not infinite, you know, why are they wrong because they they are

And then you know, what does that mean for us in our day -to -day lives like it's incredible just to look at God in a

In a way like that and to to kind of understand because I'll be honest with you once you get through with the attributes of God Your whole theology is

Shifted it's an understanding who your God is and it's it's it's shifted for the better Right.

I've always found it then that any anytime. I'm in a small group study

I'm in a service where I'm I'm listening to a sermon

Anything like that where it doesn't it doesn't even have to be that man is being decreased but Christ is being exalted

I'm learning about his attributes. I find that So fulfilling and and I'm my cup.

It's is filled overfilled with joy mm -hmm and to me that's

That's a supernatural event that happens that when when?

Christ is being talked about is his attributes and me Learning more about him and about my

Savior and my God the Holy Spirit is

Working that joy in my heart. Yeah The Holy Spirit's working the the

Word of the Lord into your heart as joy. It's it's a try in event. It's Incredible good.

It's good good stuff. Yeah, I'm I'm looking up the

I'm looking at the second commandment where there's my inner linear.

Yeah, you don't have that one memorize to music Some not to music.

No, we gotta get you a Jim Scott O 'Rourke's Shorter catechism

Set to music it's the Baptist version. So it's right up your alley. That'll be good.

Yeah, I Was just looking at the inner linear on on blue letter Bible seeing what it says about the passage and the the word graven

I Mean if you if you look at the text Becky's got me on this

So so that you do not act correctly and make a graven image for yourself in the form of any figure likeness

Let's see. That is What translation is that? There's a new

American standard I'm in Deuteronomy Where's the passage that that tells us didn't make for yourself any graven image?

Anything in the likeness of heaven on earth or under the sea and and to me

But yeah, I thought you're asking a question. It's an Exodus 24. It's also in Deuteronomy Exodus.

Okay to me What I'm saying in the text is that we're not to make a graven image for the purpose of worship and Here's where the the disagreement comes in between believers

That's one understanding the second another understanding is that it's a two -part commandment number one don't make it number two don't use it in worship

So you shall not make Unto thee any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or is earth beneath or is in the water on the earth and Then it says why?

Should not bow down to them or serve them for I the Lord your God. I'm a jealous God So you shall not make them shall not bow down to them.

Why because I'm a jealous God So don't don't contemplate and another don't contemplate an image in your head and don't don't you dare bow down and worship it either?

Right Well, it doesn't just it doesn't specify a an image or graven image of Yahweh or Or Jesus the you know, the messiah

It doesn't even say don't make a graven image of A false god. It says don't make a graven image of anything

In heaven earth or under the sea and so if you if you took that two -part understanding like you're talking about do not make any graven image then you you're

You're taking out Art Well of all time

It would you would except it's it's in the context of worship But it's the second commandment

So it don't make anything um In the heaven above the earth beneath or in the water under the earth other thing that you would worship no, and that'd be being god proper or the golden calf or Right, you know zeus or whatever.

No, don't don't make it don't worship it. Don't use it in worship uh

Which would be the the traditional reformed understanding of it Yeah Just just don't don't don't make it at all

And don't use it in worship now that you have a lot of folks, uh lutheran tradition. Um anglicans the orthodox catholics um that as you uh

There's there's certain there's a council I forget the name of it off the top of my head um, but actually

Defended the use of icons Um, we said if you didn't use them you were in sin well,

I think that was uh wrong and so they uh, They call us iconoclasts that don't want any any versions or any uh pictures um

Of any kind of the lord Yeah, so it depends, you know, how far do you take that and there's a picture of a dove um

A violation of the second commandment, right, you know or burn or burning bush or You know lots of different Lots of different things lots of different places you go be a good episode well,

I guess we didn't have anybody whose conscience was bothering them at our conference because uh

Uh, we had a video that had a dove in it so I don't some of us just ignored it

Along with your your evil hymn singing No, we we we we we we enjoyed that although who knows what's going to happen in in the rpcna moving moving forward um

I really don't know There's a Some stuff coming up at synod it may change all that we we really don't know

Yeah, see if uh, you know where they come down what their resolutions are how they discuss it and everything.

We'll we'll see I really don't know but that'll be something interesting to talk about and you know, july after we have our synod

So Well, it's interesting I know we've already I think yeah, we did do an episode on the regulative principle of worship and and you've got some folks that would say you know, we've talked this whole time about what does it mean to be reformed and we've laid down the the confessional covenantal and and calvinistic but there's folks who will include

Part of what it means to be reformed is You practice the regulative principle of worship

Well, one of the reasons why why that's the case is because it's in the confessions So, yeah, we need to We need um

To have another conversation about the regular principle of worship. Um, because I can I can appreciate that a lot.

Um Um, but I also have I'm also sympathetic to just singing other other songs besides the psalms and um,

But I also want if I want to air I want to air towards the side of regular principle. Yeah well,

I I'm sympathetic to it as well on as long as we're not in a uh, A uh official corporate worship of the church on the lord's day

Um, just that we've been talking about we We We could not have

Experienced what the holy spirit had in store for us at the at the conference in our daily lives.

We can't We can't live out a life that that pleases god um

As we were talking about earlier Living the christian life is so contrary to our flesh and to what the world

What the world sees how the world thinks we should behave Um the the things that we find joy in are are so contrary to our flesh and to natural man and to the world

But it's so much richer So much better so much fuller and yet That's not the point or the goal of coming to christ

The point and the goal of coming to christ is christ himself. Those things are just The benefits and the blessings of what he gives to us because we know him and we can only know him if we

If he shines as second corinthians 4 tells us it is if he if god shines the light in our hearts and christ removes the veil

From our eyes so that we can see him face to face and see his beauty we will

Tremble with repentance over our sin And the spirit will lead us to put our trust and faith in him for our salvation

And then all those things that we talked about are are just fruit of knowing him and we would want you and it's the whole reason why we we live and breathe is to know him and for others to come to know him as we do so We would plea with you if you do not know christ as your lord and savior you would repent of your sins and put your faith

And trust in him to save you Dan would you close us in prayer?

Yep Uh, dear heavenly father. We thank you for your goodness and your grace to us

Um at the conference and in general we pray that as we move forward from here that we would continue to To um

Do well that you would cause us to Know you to understand you And to grow deeper and deeper in fellowship with one another and especially with you in christ's name.
