Hi there, welcome to Reformed Exmorm, and I am Pastor Brayden, and I hope you're having a wonderful and blessed day today.
Today we're just going to be discussing the story and history, as well as the process that went
into writing a hymn that I just posted called Praise to the Christ.
This is a song that took myself and my wife to write, about a little over a year to do
completely in and of itself, and we're just going to be talking about the story of what came about, what was the purpose of this song.
It's meant to be only a song that only a Christian, a true believer in Christ, can actually sing,
and it has deliberate lyrics that are pulled from the Bible, so that when the Christian sings it, it
is glorifying God, using the Word of God, while listening to beautiful music in the background.
Now, to begin the story of why this song was written in the way that it was written, and the words that are used in it, the way
that they're used, I want to read from Revelation chapter 19, verse 10, as well as Revelation
chapter 22, but in verse 10 of 19, it says this,.
And I, and this is speaking of John the Apostle, who is before an angel, it says,.
And I fell at his feet to worship him, and he said to me, Do
not do that.
I am a fellow servant of yours, and you are brethren who hold the testimony of
Jesus.
Worship God.
And in chapter 22, verse 9, it says to me, it says almost the exact same
thing, it says,.
And he said to me, Do not do that.
I am a fellow servant of yours, and of your brethren, the prophets,
and of those who heed the words of this book.
Worship God.
You see, there's only one being that is deserving of worship, and that is the Creator, the Almighty,
the Alpha and the Omega, our Triune God is the only one that is worthy of any
sort of honor and praise, as when it comes to our works,
none are righteous, no, not one.
All my righteous deeds are nothing but filthy rags, and in the surpassing value of
knowing Jesus Christ, I consider all my righteous deeds as nothing but loss
and of rubbish.
Now why go and read these verses when we're talking about this song?
Well it really starts for myself, the reason that the song was written was actually I come from being raised
LDS for 19 years.
I remember going to the building with my family as we went
to sacrament meeting and hearing a song played very
regularly, and that song is called Praise to the Man.
Now this song was written for Joseph Smith, and it was first written to the
tune of Scotland the Brave, and over time that Scotland the Brave has had a different rendition given to it,
but originally it was written to Scotland the Brave.
And this is just some of the lyrics.
If you haven't heard this, or if you have heard this, I hope this opens your eyes and opens your ears
to what it says in here.
Verse one says, Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah, Jesus anointed the
prophet and blessed to open the last dispensations, kings shall
exalt him and the nations revere.
Verse two says, Praise to the memory, he died as a martyr, honored and blessed by his
ever great name.
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins, plead to heaven while the earth lauds
his fame.
Now I want you to pay attention to this third verse, it says, Great is his
glory and endless his priesthood, ever and ever
the keys he will hold faithful and true, he will enter his
kingdom, crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
The chorus says this, Hail to the prophet.
This is a song that is praising Joseph Smith,
someone who has changed the image of God into the image of a man, a corruptible man.
He has changed the image of the incorruptible to that of the corruptible.
He's changed who Jesus Christ is, he's changed the means of salvation.
And here is a supposed church that is praising Joseph
Smith when the Bible, according to Revelation chapter 19 and chapter 22 tells
us that we are to only worship God.
Now in Isaiah chapter six, it says that Isaiah sees God sitting upon his
throne, that it's lofty and exalted.
And then he hears these angels sing out to him saying,
holy, holy, holy, the whole earth is full of
his glory.
Now these are angels that are worshiping God sitting upon his throne
because he is worthy, worthy, worthy to be worshiped.
Now in John chapter 12, it tells us who was being worshiped upon that throne.
John chapter 12 verse 41
says this, these things Isaiah said because he saw
his glory and he spoke of him.
And this is speaking about our Lord and our God, Jesus Christ,
the second person of the trinity, who became flesh and dwelt amongst us.
So now remember those lyrics that were in praise to the man, and I want to read to you the song that my wife and I have
written that is meant to worship God, Jesus Christ, the second person of the trinity.
The title is not praise to the man, but is praise to the Christ.
Verse one says this, praise to the sovereign King, hear, hear his people sing
solely and wholly, saving his own bride.
There where the lamb has died, hark, the Christ is crucified, washed
by the blood of that great high priest.
Verse two, all praise to the Lord almighty, he holds us
oh so tightly.
Jesus our only way to everlasting life.
Our sin was such a stain, his love has not refrained.
On the cross of Calvary, he paid it all for me.
Praise to the eternal Lord, he is our holy shepherd, Jesus the God
-man, saving his own sheep.
Look to our God on his throne, he was pierced for his own.
He reigns now and forever.
Now I want you to compare those kind of lyrics to the lyrics of praise to the man and ask yourself which one is more
biblical, which one is worshiping God and which one is worshiping man.
Now this song that we have written is also to a rendition to Scotland the Brave
and the reason that we have done this is that when I was raised LDS that was something that was sung so prevalently and if you
are LDS you know what I'm speaking about and if you're ex -LDS whether you are a Christian or not you know
what I am talking about.
Whenever you hear that tune of Scotland the Brave your mind immediately wants to sing praise to the man because it's
how ingrained in our minds that it has become.
I have written this song so that if you are LDS first of all that when you hear
this you will want to sing praise to the man but you can't because the song is praising Christ.
And I hope and I pray that when this song is heard and you hear the lyrics of it you
see that which is biblical compared to that which is false and a lie.
And if you are ex -LDS and you are now a Christian I hope that this song blesses you in hearing
the tune of this song and singing a song of joy and happiness to the
one who has given us his peace through his death burial and resurrection.
God becoming flesh living the life I cannot live dying the death that I
deserve being buried and rising again on the third day in great victory.
Now I want to read to you in Philippians chapter 3.
Philippians chapter 3 verse 7 and
on it says this but whatever things were gained to me those things I have counted as a loss
for the sake of Christ more than that I count all things to be
loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my
Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them but
rubbish in order that I may gain Christ and
may be found in him not having a righteousness of my own derived from the law
but that which is through faith in Christ the righteousness which
comes from God on the basis of faith.
If you are LDS and hear the song praise to the Christ know that this is a song that can only
be sung by a Christian worshiping God and you are not such and
you need to repent and believe in the gospel today and be saved look to all your own
righteousness and see it as a loss in order that you may know Jesus Christ and have the
surpassing value of knowing him crucified Jesus says for
unless you believe I am you shall die in your sins and that is the explicit name of God found over 6 ,000 times
in the Old Testament today is the day to repent and believe in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus
Christ and be saved and if you are a Christian I highly highly
ask you to please like this song to share it to subscribe to this channel share it with
your friends your family sing it in your churches sing it amongst your private and
personal worship to our triune God sing it with joy sing it with honor sing it with
respect but most importantly sing it to the Christ
for he has died so that we may live it is through his death burial
and resurrection that you and I are saved God bless and go in peace.
