Every Second Counts: The Church and The State

The Church Must Speak Prophetically to the State

Listen, listen, listen, because every second counts.

Listen, because every second counts. Why should the church speak prophetically to the state? Elected officials often tell Christians not to bring the Bible into the public square, and in particular, apply it to this issue in abortion.

But God created church and state to function together. Romans 13 tells us that civil government is God's servant, charged with bearing the sword of justice against those who do evil. One of the primary places that God says his people are to speak his word is before civil government.

Psalm 119 tells us that This is our calling. Jesus has freed us from our sins by his blood. He has made us into a kingdom of priests. He is the ruler of kings on earth. The king of kings and the Lord of lords, the one who's been given all authority, who has sent us to our magistrates to tell them to obey him.

Why should the church speak prophetically to the state? Because government must obey God.
