- Good Saturday morning, people of faith. This weekend's reading is in 1
- 00:23
- Timothy chapters 4 -6, as well as the entire book of 1 Peter. I'm going to focus on just a couple of verses from 1
- 00:32
- Peter chapter 1. Let me read to you verses 3 -5.
- 00:38
- Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.
- 01:10
- So, it starts, this brief passage starts with, blessed be the
- 01:17
- God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and then it gives, I believe, three very clear reasons why we are to bless the
- 01:28
- God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. First is that He has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
- 01:38
- Well, what does it mean to be begotten again? He has begotten us again.
- 01:44
- What does that mean but to be born again? We have been born again, and what does born again mean?
- 01:52
- It means to be regenerated, to be given life again.
- 01:58
- Not to go back into your mother's womb and start life over, but that through the hearing of the gospel, the
- 02:05
- Lord has, from that outward call of the gospel, the Lord has changed you from the inside out and made you a new creation, a new creation that longs and desires after God, and this is what
- 02:23
- God has done for you. So therefore, blessed be the God and Father of our
- 02:28
- Lord Jesus Christ. Well, what else? It says that we have an inheritance that is incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, right?
- 02:45
- This all -surpassing power that has been put inside of us is not just for a brief time or not something that can be erased or something that's going to corrupt or rust or decay in any way, but rather it is something that is reserved in heaven for you.
- 03:15
- And a few months ago, we had the heaven tour with Dr. Zockel, and we were reminded that this heaven is many things in this sense that there's so many truths in scripture about heaven, but one of the most important ones that stood out to me was that it is beyond your imagination how good heaven's going to be, all right?
- 03:46
- And so that is promised to us, and it is something that cannot fade away.
- 03:52
- And then finally, you are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time, our third reason to bless the
- 04:07
- God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. So who is it that is keeping who in this?
- 04:14
- It is God the Father who is keeping us through faith.
- 04:20
- It is not our burden to be keeping, but rather we are kept by God the
- 04:32
- Father. And this is the whole foundation of the doctrine that once someone is saved, they cannot become unsaved.
- 04:42
- If it really is God that does the saving, then that is a finished, settled situation for all eternity and is not something that can be taken away.
- 04:59
- If someone, therefore, were to walk away from the faith and deny the faith, it would be evidence then that they never truly were changed by God, and it was a mere outward expression, but with no inward reality.
- 05:21
- And so these three things, that we have been born again, that we have an inheritance in heaven waiting for us, and that it is
- 05:34
- God the Father himself through his power that is going to keep us, these three reasons are reasons to worship
- 05:42
- God this morning, right now, and let us pray. Lord, thank you so much for these promises from your word, that they would be true not only of myself, but of everyone who hears this word today.
- 05:59
- May you be glorified in bringing many people to yourself. It's in your Son's name,
- 06:05
- Jesus, we pray, amen. Have an excellent day, people of faith.
