Christ’s Inheritance and the Sonship of Jesus

I want to review, just a minute, back in the fourth verse. Being made so much better than the angels as he hath by inheritance, obtained a more excellent name than they. Joy, can God inherit anything?

All right. He can inherit nothing because he's the one that has made everything. Can Jesus inherit anything? All right. He hath by inheritance. Jesus Christ has by inheritance. Concentrate on that word, inheritance.

This is forcing us to learn about Jesus the man. They are his angels. They are his ministers. They are his worshippers. The primary cause of Jesus going to the cross was what? To fulfill what? His father's will.

That's right, to fulfill his father's will. He did not go just to save you only. You were saved in his going, but he did not go to save you. Now, Jesus has a new office. David, what is that office? High priest.

He is now our great high priest by inheritance. In verse 5, where we start today. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, thou art my son? Now, Roger, did he say that to any angel? No. That's right.

And this day have I begotten thee, and again I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. Jesus is the only person that can be a son of God. All by himself. Man did nothing. Man didn't kill him, nor raise him up.

The First Begotten, the Resurrection, and the Incarnation

Now, verse 6. Where we really begin today. And again, when he again refers to when God again brought him the first begotten into the world. He saith, and let all of the angels worship him. Now, Roger, and again when he bringeth forth the first begotten.

What does that word begotten mean? All right, that's basically right. Greg, what do you think? All right. Jesse, you're getting close, truly. And you don't know what Jesse said, but you agree with him.

All right. But when he bringeth again, or the second time, the first born into the habitable world. Would be a better translation of this. The thing that made Jesus begotten was his resurrection. Not his first birth.

His resurrection. Begotten from the dead. This most certainly refers to his resurrection. Which might be properly considered a second incarnation. For as a human soul, as well as the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

Dwelled in the man Jesus the Christ. Now, the human soul, as well as the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Dwelled in the man Jesus Christ. On and during his incarnation. So when he expired upon the cross.

When he died. Both the Godhead and the human spirit left his dead body. Is that right? I want to go slow here. Is that right? All right. Both the human spirit and the Godhead left his dead body. At some time before his resurrection.

I do not know when. These were reunited to the body. And of the angels, he saith, who maketh his angel spirits and his ministers a flame of fire. I want to go back to this incarnation. Christ was incarnated twice.

First time. The second time he was begotten. He come as a holy spirit in human form to man. Do you understand what I'm trying to say? Greg, do you? Yes. That's right. That's right. That's right. It's at the second or the begotten that he bestowed upon him.

Now, I don't understand the Trinity and I'm not trying to understand it. I think if we don't try to understand it, it may show itself. Paul is still arguing between or he's trying to set up the situation that Christ is better or Jesus is more powerful than the angels.

For next week, I'd like for you to find a place in the Bible where an angel is sitting down. David started laughing. I don't know why. What did he mutter? I said it was the easiest time. Well, you'll find angels all through the Bible.

Is there any place one of them is sitting down as though he had nothing to do? All right. And of these angels, he saith, who maketh his angel spirits and his ministers a flame of fire, that Jesus Christ, as mediator, because of his love to righteousness and hatred to sin, is dignified and advanced by God, not only above men, but likewise also above the angels, because of what he himself did.

He is now a mediator. He wasn't before. Because he loved righteousness. David, what is righteousness? Could we say that the righteousness of God is that righteousness that calls for your righteousness to be righteous?

Would it be true? Yes. Yes. That because he was the first. Why say he's the first if there's not a lot to follow? You could say he's the only. But he's not the only. He's the first. That's right. Without that, there is no hope.

The Son’s Throne, Righteousness, and Eternal Kingship

Yes, there is. Again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he brought him here, bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, and let all the angels worship him. And of the angels he saith, who maketh his angel spirits and ministers of the flaming fire, but unto his son he saith, thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever.

A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. Now, yes, that was my question. Why does he call this being God? Unto thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever. A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.

What is scepter? Roger. What is your name? Britt. Britt? Rick. Like a rick of wood. Thou hast loved righteousness. Now, can you love righteousness without hating iniquity? You have nothing to do with iniquity.

You just love righteousness. Is that possible? That's right. And hated iniquity therefore means what, Greg? Well, because of this. Therefore, because you love righteousness and hate iniquity, because of that, God, even your God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Now we come into a little different area. Jesus has been anointed with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Roger, what's he talking about? Above thy fellows. Rick, tell him. I'll just tell him later.

Jesse or Trudy either. All right, it has something to do with his human position, but I haven't yet heard the word I want. David? Wait a minute. Jesse? All right. Thy fellows. David? That's right. Therefore, God, even thy God, hath anointed thee above thy fellows.

Fellows. Medokos. Sharing in, partaking in. Above. That's not quite right. It includes heirs, but he narrows it down a little bit. In work, office, dignity. Therefore, all who had shared the throne of David.

The king. None before Christ were ever prophet, priest, and king. Some were kings only. Oxford was the center. Yes, yes. There were prophets. There were kings. There were priests. Some of them were prophet and king.

Some were prophet and priest. Some were king and priest. But never has all three resided in one person. Prophet, priest, and king. And thou, Lord, in the beginning has laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the works of thine hands.

The Eternal Son, Creation, and the Changing Cosmos

Now we jump back before into eternity past. This same, the one that's Jesus now, created everything. But he didn't come into existence until he was born. Now how do you explain that, Greg? All right. Heavens is plural here.

Meaning there's more than one. Works of thy hands, the heavens as a woven veil or a curtain spread out. They are the works of his fingers. We're at a point where I'm a little confused on Jesus and his preexistence.

He didn't preexist as Jesus, but he has always been the Son of God. And it was as the Son of God that he made everything. Then he came into the world born as a baby, named Jesus. Then he was begotten from the dead and raised to the high office that he has, that Jesus was.

They shall perish, but thou remainest and they shall wax old as doth a garment. He's referring to the heavens, the earth, the everything. They, the earth, and the heavens in their present state and form shall perish.

Now perish does not mean annihilation. He's going to change this world. He's going to change the earth. He's going to change the heavens. And as a vesture, shalt thou fold them up and they shall be changed.

But thou art the same and thy years shall not fail. We have a little bit, or I have a little bit of a problem in straddling both the existence pre and Jesus now. Jesus now is the baby. He died, he was resurrected and elevated, and he holds that office now that he didn't have before.

So he's elevated higher than he was before. And they shall be changed, not destroyed ultimately or annihilated. They shall be changed and renewed. You remember in the scripture it says that the earth is waiting, groaning, waiting on the rapture of the children so it can get a new life, be born again, be new, be reformed.

But thou art the same. These words can be said of no being but God. All others are changeable or perishable because temporal. Only that which is eternal can continue, continue eternally. Thy years shall not fail.

There is in the divine duration no circle to run, no space to be measured, and times not reckoned. We cannot think without reference to time. I've tried it. We can't. We can say the words, but we cannot form a basis of no time.

Any comments? Oh yes, we long for it. Not knowing, we don't know what we're longing for. So we think it'll be better. Have you ever noticed, this is stepping out of this office a minute, the unknown, the men from outer space, the Mars people, everything is always uglier than man, but they're smarter than man.

That tells you a little bit what we're thinking. All is eternity, infinite, and onward, never goes back. But to which of the angels said he at any time, sit thou on my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Sit on my right hand. That was a position that Jesus obtained, but it was at the discretion of the master of God. Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Ministering Spirits and the Heirs of Salvation

Now we come to a rather important discovery. It was for me. Are they not all ministering spirits? He's talking about not the devil's angels, but the good angels, the angels we'll say, not the demons. And he has sent them forth, a certain group of them, not everybody, all of them, to be a minister for who, Greg?

For those that shall inherit. Shall inherit. Now, I'm so glad he said shall be instead of those that are. Even though we have always belonged to him, we are not aware of the fact until he notifies us.

How do you explain that you remained alive until you were notified? What if you'd have died before you was notified? David, Rick, what do you think?

A police officer I hear many stories about, but I'm a non-Christian officer. It's a dangerous situation for the suspect. The point of the gun is that I've acquired a gun five or six times. This is the type of engineering system that the gun's in.

If you're an honest buyer, it's just the best time of it. It's a long time to go.

All right. Jesse, what do you think? I don't like it. That's true. So, are we safe in saying that you could not die until you were notified? We don't know when we'll be notified. We do not know when we will be taken out of the world.

We don't know anything that lies ahead, yes. That's right. Right. We not only didn't know, we wouldn't have anything to do with it. Fred?

We know that it is the right time. Oh, yes.

It is the right time. Yes, because God never does anything at the wrong time. Now, let's go back to the ministering spirits. Greg, what is it that you have, now that you're saved, that guides you? The Holy Spirit.

Now, could it be, I can't prove this, but just could it be that the angels, and I'm convinced every one of us has someone or a group of people looking after us. It took about six to look after David. That we all have this before we're saved to keep us alive, to protect us.

Now, all of it's God's plan. I'm not messing with his plan. And the moment we're saved and grow into a knowledge of the Holy Spirit, that we have the Holy Spirit then to protect us. Well, that's true up to a point.

God is using Satan's army, though, to accomplish his will. Yes, he's using it. Could not the angels protect Satan's children?

I think that God's plan, yes, could be protected. In this case here, it shows that.

Everything's according to God's will. I can't get away from that. It all happens at the right time. We're all under his protection. We all have his guidance. A certain group of us has broken away, originally, and followed Satan.

So they look to Satan for their guidance. This guy in Afghanistan is a general of the highest order of Satan. This is that last testimony produced by the apostle to prove Christ's preeminence above the angels.

He is a son. They are but servants to believers, to the church of Christ, to the heirs of salvation. The nature of angels declared they are spirits without anything material or corporal belonging to them, yet having a power to assume a body and appear in human shape when it pleases the Father.

The scripture describes them as excelling in strength, purity, and holiness, to be of great activity and swiftness, and gives intimation of several ranks and orders among them, distinguishing them by the names of principalities and powers, thrones and dominions.

But what the difference of these names? Note, none can be declared. Now, let's go back. We've covered the first chapter. But I want to be sure that you have no questions left over. What? Yes. That's all right.

We've got forever. Let's discuss this first chapter. Who at sundry times, many different times, presented his word to us in many different forms, before the cross, before Jesus came to the earth. He presented his word.

Well, David, what were some of the ways that he presented his word?

He even spoke by jackass once, didn't he? Yes.

That's really not the right word. Yes, yes. Well, in these last times, from the time of the cross on until it comes to an end, we have the highest of all revelation. And it's given by whom? By his Son, Jesus the Christ.

Who, having completed the redemption, when did he complete it? When did Jesus complete the redemption? Resurrection. All of that before the resurrection would have been of no value unless he resurrected.

So at his resurrection, we have the highest of all people, a person, to inform us. And he sits at the right hand of God. Sits by invitation at the right hand of God. He didn't go and sit down there. It was because God the Father called Jesus to come and sit.

Jesus the man. All right? That's right. Now, while he's sitting there, what's he doing? He isn't just sitting there. He intercedes for us. Because we cannot go directly to God. Now, we pray as though we can.

We act as though we can. But we can't. We go through Jesus. And why didn't God speak to everybody at the same time? David says it's because we couldn't understand it. Isn't it remarkable that he has revealed himself in little bitty pieces all along until this last time, and he gave all that we need to know now.

So, Greg, we have a greater responsibility than did Moses. Moses didn't know it. Neither did Jacob. Neither did Adam. Yes. That's right. That's a good point. Yes. Hath in these last days, we've covered that, he has spoken to us directly through being by preexistent and essential being, brightness of his glory.

The brightness. Let me touch on that a moment. I did the first time and skipped over to the second. But brightness. This is where we get the idea of a halo. But it means more than that. It means an out shooting.

It means that he was flashing. It means that his brightness was coming and going to attract attention, to penetrate. The world can't see that. Brightness. Yes. Yes. Could be. Could be. Because. That's right.

Until his intelligence was developed, until his thinking was developed, and God controlled that. It's not that Moses was dumb. It's not that Jacob didn't know anything. They knew all that was necessary for them.

And so do you. You see how much more information we have. How much bigger our heads should be. Well, he spends quite a bit of time discussing that better than the angels. He proves it. He is the only begotten son.

He is the father of the son. Anything else? That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. So that's. That's right. Yes. That's right. He had to die again. Oh, there's so much in this. We could go over the first verse, first chapter again.
