- 00:10
- Welcome to the teaching ministry of Kungsvinger Lutheran Church Kungsvinger is a beacon for the gospel of Jesus Christ and is located on the plains of northwestern,
- 00:18
- Minnesota We proclaim Christ and him crucified for our sins and salvation by grace through faith alone
- 00:24
- And now here's a message from Pastor Chris Roseberg The Holy Gospel according to st.
- 00:30
- John chapter 14 verses 1 through 14 Jesus said let not your heart be hearts be troubled believe in God believe also in me
- 00:41
- In my father's house are many rooms If it were not so would
- 00:46
- I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you And if I go and prepare a place for you,
- 00:51
- I will come again I will take you to myself that where I am you may be also and you know the way to where I am going
- 01:00
- Thomas said to him Lord, we don't know where you're going. How can we know the way?
- 01:06
- Jesus said to him. I am the way the truth the life No one comes to the father except through me if you had known me
- 01:15
- You would have known my father also from now on you do know him and have seen him
- 01:20
- Philip said to him Lord show us the father and it is enough for us Jesus said to him have
- 01:26
- I been with you so long and you still do not know me Philip Whoever has seen me has seen the father.
- 01:32
- How can you say show us the father? Do you not believe that I am in the father and the father is in me the words that I say to you?
- 01:40
- I do not speak on my own authority, but the father who dwells in me does his works believe
- 01:46
- Believe me that I am in the father and the father is in me or else believe on account of the works themselves
- 01:53
- Truly truly I say to you Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do and greater works than these will he do
- 02:01
- Because I am going to the father Whatever you ask in my name this I will do that The father may be glorified in the
- 02:09
- Son if you ask me anything in my name I will do it in the name of Jesus Brothers and sisters we live in a day where well our society has gone mad probably the best way to put it
- 02:22
- They are absolutely inconsistent and quite hypocritical and what I'm referring to in particular is this concept that?
- 02:29
- Apparently the only thing that must not be tolerated in our society is intolerance
- 02:38
- I'm not going to tolerate intolerance. So it's okay to be intolerant if somebody's being intolerant
- 02:45
- That doesn't make any Sense and yet each and every one of you have know exactly what
- 02:52
- I'm talking about We live in a pluralistic postmodern society It's all about embracing everybody and saying everybody's okay
- 03:01
- Yeah, it's like that old song that we used to sing on the well the TV commercials
- 03:06
- Yeah I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony like to buy the world of coke and keep it company and we all
- 03:13
- Sing kumbaya and give each other a big hug and the underlying concept then here
- 03:18
- And this is the pressure from society being put on the church is that somehow we as pastors and we as Christians Are to bend the knee to this new concept.
- 03:29
- We are to be intolerant of intolerance and We therefore cannot preach or teach the exclusivity of Christ in Salvation it is impolite.
- 03:40
- It is backwards. It is Archaic it is just downright inhumane to think that well somebody who sincerely worships
- 03:50
- God as a Muslim or a Buddhist or as a Hindu or Maybe one of the
- 03:56
- Native American Religions that somehow their sincere devotion to God would not count when it comes to salvation
- 04:07
- You know what I'm talking about and the pressure then put on the church and on Christians and on pastors has
- 04:15
- Caused many of them to bend the knee But not bend the knee to Christ To bend the knee to the pressures of society and of course if you're still one of those
- 04:28
- Holdouts that believe that salvation is only in Jesus. It's best if you keep that to yourself because everybody knows if you believe that then you may as well put a white hood on your head and burn crosses in somebody's yards
- 04:47
- You're just as bad as the KKK or as any of those people who opposed inclusivity of whatever right wrong
- 04:57
- So we come to a text today that as we work through it, we're going to hear something really offensive and Rather than just let this offense stand by itself.
- 05:09
- We're gonna actually take a look at a cross -reference To see if this offensive statement of Jesus is actually what he said
- 05:16
- And what he meant but along the way also We're gonna take a hard look at the last part of our gospel text, which is highly
- 05:27
- Misunderstood see whatever you ask in my name. Jesus says this I will do and if you ask me anything in my name
- 05:34
- I will do it. We all know what that means, right? We just need to pray Lord Won't you buy me a
- 05:40
- Mercedes -Benz tack on the words in the name of Jesus and well the Germans are sending you one right now that's how that works or That phrase that Jesus said the one who believes in me will do greater works than I do
- 05:54
- And we all know what that means, right? Well, Jesus raised the dead walked on water and things of that nature So how many people have you raised from the dead how many blind people have anyone here anyone anyone?
- 06:04
- No, we'll talk about that too. So all I can say is buckle up.
- 06:09
- Today's text is a bumpy road John chapter 14 verse 1
- 06:15
- Let not your hearts be troubled Jesus says believe in God believe also in me in my father's house are many rooms if it were not
- 06:23
- So what I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you a little bit of a pause here
- 06:28
- This is the clearest gospel in this text. So let's relish this for a moment and think about it
- 06:35
- Jesus is the carpenter of Nazareth and Jesus here is saying to those who believe in him his disciples and you're included in this group
- 06:42
- That he has gone to prepare a place for you and other translations say that in my house are many mansions
- 06:48
- These are not small tiny Japanese flats that we're talking about one -bedroom affairs.
- 06:54
- These are quite amazing places to live and Jesus himself the carpenter of Nazareth is the one who knows you by name and He is personally preparing for you a place
- 07:08
- To stay and live with him forever in his father's house and All of this is given by grace through faith.
- 07:16
- Have you ever watched one of those home? remodeling reality TV shows where somebody's house really needs some work and of course
- 07:24
- They can't afford to have it done. And so their friends have all conspired and called the producers of this
- 07:29
- Television program they say these people really need their house fixed up And so they come up with some ruse to get them out of the house for a week or so and so maybe they're visiting relatives on the other side of the country and things like that and if they've
- 07:44
- Established somebody to house sit for them and while they're gone in come the carpenters the interior designers the plumbers and the people who know how to do this kind of work and they
- 07:54
- Do the remodeling job and when they come back that well The cat is let out of the bag and they are told while you were gone
- 08:01
- We fixed your broken home and so the the big payoff and this is my favorite part of shows like this is where they walk them through and the
- 08:10
- Couples are like, oh, oh my goodness and all the love and care and detail that goes into putting these houses
- 08:18
- Back together. It's well if you would it's a glimpse of what it's gonna be like for you on The day when you see
- 08:27
- Jesus face -to -face and when it comes time to see your accommodations Jesus says
- 08:33
- I have prepared a place for you. Come see what I've done. It's beautiful Absolutely Beautiful and all of this is a gift from God and we have this because our
- 08:46
- God has bled and died for us He's washed us in the waters of baptism He feeds us his own body and blood to forgive us of our sins and today you've heard the absolution that you are forgiven so believe this hang on to this this hope this picture because When you see
- 09:03
- Jesus face to face and you finally get to worship at his feet That's only part of what's happening that day
- 09:10
- You see him you will walk into this place that he has prepared for you lovingly the carpenter of Nazareth is now
- 09:17
- Working diligently to prepare your place in his father's home for you
- 09:24
- Amen now So Jesus then continues I prepare a place for you so that you may be where I am also and He said, you know the way to where I am going now
- 09:34
- Remember Thomas from a couple of weeks ago doubting Thomas is probably better unbelieving Thomas Thomas from a few weeks ago
- 09:40
- Notice the little bit of cynicism and lack of understanding Thomas says to him
- 09:46
- Lord We don't know where you're going What are you talking about and Jesus says and he says how can we know the way so Jesus says and how here's our really offensive statement
- 09:59
- I am the way and the truth and The life and it's the way the truth.
- 10:08
- He didn't say I am a way The Greek says I am the way he didn't say
- 10:13
- I am a truth. He says I am the truth and The life
- 10:19
- No one comes to the father except through me quick quiz
- 10:28
- How many people come to the father? apart from Jesus Zero the answer is zero and you sit there and go.
- 10:38
- Oh, wow, that's oh Listen I I know some people
- 10:43
- I people I love Who didn't believe in Jesus and they died or I have friends and relatives they're decent people
- 10:53
- They're hard -working good citizens. They pay their taxes and they don't believe in Jesus No one comes to the father except through Me we're not saved by our works
- 11:10
- We're not saved by paying our taxes paying our taxes keeps us out of prison
- 11:16
- Not out of hell No one comes to the father except through me. Well, maybe just maybe
- 11:23
- Jesus didn't mean it the way it sounds Maybe he wasn't being this intolerant.
- 11:29
- I mean, oh This just won't fly in our postmodern tolerant society
- 11:36
- Let's take a look at a cross -reference. Look over at Acts chapter 3. I'm gonna start at verse 17 a
- 11:43
- Little bit of the context here Peter and John are on their way to the temple. They're gonna teach there's a man who's crippled who likes you know who they set out there on the way into the temple and he begs at the
- 11:53
- Beautiful gate and this is the fellow who Peter looks at and says look at me. He says silver and gold
- 11:59
- I do not have but what I do have I give you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth Stand up and walk and this crippled fellow stood up and walked
- 12:07
- Jesus healed him now no good deed goes unpunished at least for Christians So this causes quite the ruckus and so we're gonna pick up at the tail end of day one of Peter's sermon
- 12:18
- Regarding this particular miracle that Christ performed through him in Acts chapter 3 verse 17
- 12:25
- It says this Peter preaching our brothers. I know that you acted in ignorance as did your rulers regarding Christ But what
- 12:32
- God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets that his Christ or his Messiah would suffer. He has thus fulfilled
- 12:39
- And listen to these words Repent therefore turn back so that your sins may be blotted out
- 12:49
- Who's Peter talking to? Religious Jews and Watch what he is saying.
- 12:56
- He said great news. This is not what he said great news. Jesus has bled and died for you So go ahead and just keep worshiping
- 13:02
- God any old way you want Everything counts now you're in like Flynn later
- 13:09
- That's not what he said He said to these religious Jews repent
- 13:16
- Turn back from your sins that they may be blotted out The times of refreshing might come from the presence of the
- 13:22
- Lord and that he may send Christ appointed for you Jesus whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which
- 13:32
- God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago and Now Peter is going to quote
- 13:39
- Deuteronomy chapter 18 that's your cross -reference. He says
- 13:44
- Moses said The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own brothers
- 13:51
- You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you and it shall be that every soul who does not
- 13:59
- Listen to that prophet listen to what he says every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people
- 14:07
- And all the prophets who have spoken from Samuel and those who came after him also proclaimed these days you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your father saying to Abraham and in your
- 14:20
- Offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed God having raised up his servant sent him to you first to bless you by Turning every one of you from your wickedness already
- 14:34
- You can see that Peter is not one of these fellows that believes that all religions lead to God That people are saved in all faiths
- 14:48
- Far from it. He's already quoted Moses from Deuteronomy 18 and made it clear
- 14:53
- From what he was quoting that anyone who will not listen to Jesus will be cut off and destroyed from the people
- 15:00
- It says that so as they were speaking To the people the priests and the captain of the temple of the
- 15:06
- Sadducees came upon them and they were greatly annoyed You just might actually be preaching the truth if People are greatly annoyed by what you say about Jesus now, it may not it may be that you're just being annoying
- 15:27
- So Check carefully to see if you're the offense or if Christ is the offense
- 15:34
- But notice in this particular case, they weren't being annoying which I have a tendency to do just from time to time
- 15:40
- All right, make every day, but that's a different story But in this case, they were preaching
- 15:47
- Christ and these religious leaders were annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead and So they arrested them put them in custody until the next day for it was already evening but many of those who had heard the word believed and the number of men came to about 5 ,000 now on the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John Alexander and all who were with the high priestly family
- 16:19
- That's quite the entourage to come talk to Peter and John Don't you think and when they had set them in the midst of them?
- 16:26
- They inquired and here comes And listen carefully to these words by what power or by what name?
- 16:36
- Did you do this? Do what? well, remember there was a crippled fellow who was healed and Listen to by what?
- 16:47
- name Name you see this is going to help us understand the latter part of our gospel text
- 16:53
- In the name of Jesus is not some magic formula you tack on to the end of a prayer
- 17:01
- In order to make it so that it happens To pray something in his name is to pray it by his his power
- 17:09
- To pray according to his authority to pray it in accordance with his will and what he desires to have done
- 17:15
- And we're all beginning to see this so by what power by what name did you do this? Well Peter filled with the
- 17:21
- Holy Spirit said to them rulers of the people and elders if we're being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man and By what means this man has been healed?
- 17:31
- well Let it be known to you all and to all the people of Israel that by the listen the name of Jesus Christ There it is.
- 17:39
- Again the name of Jesus Christ This helps us understand what this phrase means by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth whom you crucified
- 17:48
- Whom God raised from the dead by him. This man is standing before you.
- 17:54
- Well So notice who's getting all the credit for this healing? It ain't Peter It's Jesus because Jesus is the one who did the healing because last time
- 18:03
- I checked neither me nor Peter or you or anyone else Has power to do such things
- 18:08
- So this Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you the builders which has become the cornerstone and here it comes
- 18:17
- Are you bracing for it? This is gonna hurt and there is salvation in no one else for there is no other name
- 18:26
- Under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
- 18:33
- Oh Man, could you imagine if had he said that today the media would be in an uproar.
- 18:42
- Oh My word Twitter and Facebook would melt down Snapchat would snap in half
- 18:52
- Everything would just everyone would come unglued How dare you?
- 18:59
- Say that there is no other name given among wit among men by which we must be saved
- 19:04
- Who do you think you are? Try this out sometime at Thanksgiving dinner
- 19:12
- You laugh because you know what would happen the word annoyed comes up What was
- 19:18
- Peter doing? he was merely saying exactly what
- 19:23
- Jesus said and since Jesus rose from the grave
- 19:32
- Proving that he is none other than the Son of God in human flesh
- 19:39
- Anybody who is opposing what Jesus says here is opposing
- 19:46
- Jesus Now there's this really thorny passage in Scripture that we pastors pay close attention to and if Pastored if a pastor doesn't he's foolish
- 19:59
- It says of us pastors that we are going to endure a stricter judgment on the day of judgment
- 20:06
- Now as a pastor, I am NOT authorized to tell you my opinions and say there
- 20:12
- This is what God would want you to believe. I'm not authorized to do that. Nope I'm not authorized to go and find philosophical ideas why you should believe something different than what the
- 20:22
- Bible says. Nope I'm not authorized to do that. The only thing I am authorized to tell you and Authorized by Christ is to tell you what he taught what he commanded and what he wants you to believe.
- 20:34
- This isn't my church This isn't your church This is
- 20:39
- Christ's Church. And since this is all his one of these days I'm gonna have to stand before him and he's gonna say remember that sermon where you just kind of shot from the hip and you
- 20:48
- Said this yeah Why did you say that? Ufta so the idea here is this that when the culture tells us we must get rid of this exclusive message of salvation only being in Christ that this message is causing social turmoil that this message is
- 21:16
- Undermining unity within well the world and that we need to be more open -minded and now just live in the 21st century for heaven's sake and Stop being so narrow -minded and bigoted
- 21:34
- When they say things like this You are not being narrow -minded Something that is not true
- 21:43
- Still is untrue Even if everybody believes it You see truth is not arrived at by consensus.
- 21:51
- Well, we took a vote Jesus We you know We decided we really didn't like this thing About no other name given under heaven by which mine must be saved
- 21:58
- And so we just kind of you know, took some white out and dabbed it out of our Bibles I don't have the authority to do that and I'm required to teach you the full counsel of the
- 22:09
- Word of God And I would say this I know for a fact you've felt
- 22:15
- Pressure to believe other than what Jesus and Peter here have said and I would say this if you've given into that Pressure consider it what it is temptation from the devil repent of it
- 22:32
- Repent if you believe that there is salvation in Islam if you believe there is salvation in Buddhism or Jainism or Hinduism or any other ism?
- 22:45
- You're wrong There is no salvation in any of those religions and this is a tough
- 22:53
- Doctrine there is salvation in Christ and in him alone
- 23:04
- And he does not accept proxy worship through false gods Our text continues
- 23:13
- Jesus says if you had known me you would have known my father Also from now on you do know him and you have seen him and Philip said to him
- 23:22
- Lord show us the father and it is enough for us Jesus then gives a perfectly wonderful Trinitarian answer to this statement and We'll just gloss it today.
- 23:34
- But on Trinity Sunday, we'll delve a little bit deeper into the doctrine of the Trinity Jesus said to him have
- 23:40
- I been with you so long and you still do not know me Whoever has seen me has seen the father
- 23:46
- Jesus here, by the way is not saying that he's the father He's saying that he is the same God as the father. How do
- 23:51
- I know because of what follows? How can you say show us the father? Do you not believe that I am in the father and the father is in me notice?
- 23:58
- Jesus is making a distinction between himself and the father yet at the same time confessing that he and the father are one
- 24:04
- Very careful. This is a very careful and meticulous statement So the words that I say to you
- 24:10
- I do not speak of my own authority But the father who dwells in me his works He does his works believe me that I am in the father and the father is in me or else believe on account of the works themselves and Now here comes one of the more confusing things that Jesus said here if that Trinitarian stuff wasn't confusing enough
- 24:28
- Now here comes a text. That's really confusing Truly truly I say to you whoever believes in me
- 24:34
- Will also do the works that I do and greater works than these will he do because I am going to the father
- 24:42
- What is Jesus referring to? now people in the charismatic and Pentecostal movements would have you believe that Jesus is referring to The miracles and signs that he performed
- 24:53
- Jesus walks on water Jesus raises the dead Jesus gives sight to the blind Jesus heals crippled and people like that So therefore what
- 25:02
- Jesus is saying here is that that my signs and wonders were just a foretaste of the stuff you're gonna do so go out and exercise these miraculous gifts and go and Operate in them and you're gonna do even greater than me
- 25:16
- Is that what he's referring to? What so what then is the right way of understanding this?
- 25:23
- What according to Jesus is the thing that he came to do to seek and to save the lost
- 25:31
- When Jesus died and rose again, how many disciples were there just a few hundred?
- 25:42
- less than a thousand How many? Believers are there today?
- 25:51
- hundreds of millions Billions how many people have been brought to penitent faith in Christ for the forgiveness of their sins?
- 26:00
- Since Christ has died and rose and ascended into heaven It's a multitude.
- 26:06
- We can't even begin to number you see the idea here is that Jesus began the work of Seeking and saving the loss bringing them to repentance and faith in him
- 26:19
- Forgiving their sins washing them making them new and then having them bear fruit and keeping with repentance and that work
- 26:26
- Continues to this day. Jesus isn't doing it with his own hands he's given the task to his disciples to continue to do and So indeed you look at somebody like the
- 26:37
- Apostle Paul, how many churches did that fellow plant? How many disciples were made by the labor of the
- 26:47
- Apostle Paul remember? Jesus was on earth for three years three at least teaching and discipling
- 26:55
- His ministry was only three years long. That's a pretty brief amount of time I could I can understand that because of all
- 27:01
- I've been here at Kongsvinger to be three years on June 15th It's not a lot of time and in that three years
- 27:08
- You've got a few hundred disciples the Apostle Paul over the course of a very long career decades long plants churches all over Mesopotamia on into Into Asia and into Europe and other places and some of these churches exist to this day
- 27:28
- Greater works indeed. That's the sense in which he's talking about Now the next part of this you cannot understand this next phrase apart from what
- 27:38
- Jesus just said Because when we hear wait a second, you're saying every believer is going to do greater works than you
- 27:44
- Jesus What how do we respond to such a statement no way no, uh, that's not possible
- 27:53
- I'm totally messed up. I'm weak. I'm frail. I'm overweight.
- 27:59
- I wear glasses my kids misbehave My wife has to discipline me constantly.
- 28:05
- I'm still in training and on top of that I get sick and oh
- 28:11
- How am I supposed to do more than what you did how am
- 28:16
- I supposed to do these greater works and all of the anxiety and the frailty that we feel as a result of our sin our nature and The sufferings that we go through and our weaknesses
- 28:27
- Well, Jesus says don't worry Don't worry. And so it's in this context that Jesus makes this next statement.
- 28:34
- Whatever you ask in my name What does it mean to ask in Jesus name?
- 28:43
- by his authority by his power by his will you see
- 28:48
- Jesus wills for you to do greater works than he did and The way you're going to do this is watch whatever you ask
- 28:59
- What does that require you to do Pray Notice, there's no decreeing and declaring going on here
- 29:09
- All of your weakness comes flooding to your mind and there's like no way I can do this So what does this force you to do?
- 29:15
- It forces you on your knees and it forces you to pray. Oh Lord Jesus you will for me to do greater works than you.
- 29:24
- I Asked that you give me strength Help me understand your word Give me boldness
- 29:31
- To stand on your word even in the face of suffering and opposition. Oh Lord Forgive me of my sins.
- 29:38
- I know I'm unworthy to the task that you have given me. That's the idea See, it's whatever you ask in my name is in the context of doing the greater works that Jesus did and the work that Jesus Came to do is to seek and save the lost
- 29:52
- And so when we realize that this is what Jesus wills it forces us to our knees and to live our lives in faith
- 30:01
- Helps us to recognize our weakness and recognize as Peter did that all of the great works that even
- 30:07
- Peter did Jesus was doing through him and that's the idea So whatever you ask in my name, this will
- 30:14
- I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son? So if you ask me anything in my name, I will do it now
- 30:21
- There are a lot of charlatans in the church today with who would have you believe that what you just really need to do here
- 30:26
- Is have enough faith that Jesus is going to give you a ten thousand square foot mansion on a three acre spread with a tennis court and an
- 30:34
- Olympic sized swimming pool and a Maserati Lamborghini a few other collectible cars and a private jet and all you got to do is have enough faith and tack on in Jesus name and see whatever you ask.
- 30:48
- This is what's gonna give you No, let me give you a cross -reference James 4 James 4 starting at verse 1
- 30:59
- What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you is it not this?
- 31:05
- That your passions are at war within you and these are sinful passions you desire and you do not have so you murder
- 31:13
- You covet and cannot obtain so you fight and quarrel You do not have because you do not ask and now listen to this
- 31:21
- You ask and you do not receive because you ask wrongly to spend it on your passions
- 31:28
- You adulterous people. Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?
- 31:35
- So here we have a clear cross -reference. There are people who have the audacity to say Lord Jesus won't you buy me a
- 31:42
- Mercedes -Benz in the name of Jesus? Amen, and I decreed and declared I'm believing into that and what does
- 31:51
- James say you adulterous and wicked people? You ask and you do not receive because you ask in order to fulfill your sinful passions
- 32:02
- So then coming back to our text, whatever you ask in my name We have been given the task by Jesus and he has said so wonderfully of us that we will do even greater works than he has done and Think of it this way
- 32:20
- What is it the Christians do then? Well Peter puts it so succinctly in our epistle text.
- 32:27
- Listen to Peter's words in first Peter 2 I'll start at verse 4 as you come to him a living stone rejected by men
- 32:37
- But in the sight of God chosen and precious you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood a
- 32:47
- Holy priesthood You are a holy Priesthood. What do priests do?
- 32:56
- They pray but they also offer sacrifices Now, let's talk about the prayer part first.
- 33:04
- Think of it this way Once you were dead in trespasses and sins
- 33:11
- This is your state when you were born But you were washed you were forgiven you were redeemed you were brought back to life and regenerated through the kindness and mercy of God working through his
- 33:24
- Word and Now that you've been made alive you brothers and sisters have been placed into the priesthood.
- 33:32
- Yes I said sisters this priesthood includes both men and women and What do priests do they pray?
- 33:41
- So here's the idea you were dead and In order for you to be brought to life.
- 33:47
- No joke. There was a generation of Christians before you Who prayed for you?
- 33:53
- They were in the priesthood and they prayed for your salvation they prayed and they brought the
- 33:59
- Word of God to you and God graciously heard their prayers in the name of Jesus to Seek and save the lost who was you and now that you have been raised to life and put in the priesthood you pray you know your neighbors and your friends the co -workers those people in your family and You desire that they to be forgiven like you have been forgiven.
- 34:25
- And so what do you do? You get on your knees as a good priest
- 34:31
- And you pray. Oh Lord, Jesus, I Love this person so much.
- 34:37
- Oh Lord, I know that you have bled and died from them and yet they do not know you as Savior They continue to persist in sin and unbelief
- 34:46
- Oh Lord, Jesus have mercy on them and bring them to life in the same way You have brought me to life and whatever you ask in his name and what happens
- 34:58
- God? Here's our prayers and he answers them and he gives them life and Place them into the priesthood of all believers.
- 35:08
- And what do they do? They pray for their friends and neighbors and then the gospel continues to spread and the kingdom advance and grow
- 35:17
- Now it's mentioned that priests off also offer sacrifices, but see our priesthood is not the sacrifices
- 35:24
- Well, we don't offer money as our sacrifice or animals or anything like that What does
- 35:30
- Paul say in Romans 12 offer yourselves as a living sacrifice for your neighbor?
- 35:40
- for your friends For your family for your co -workers you offer yourselves as a living sacrifice you pray for them and You offer yourself for them for their sake
- 35:54
- That's the idea So as you've come to him a living stone rejected by men, but in the sight of God chosen and precious
- 36:02
- Yourselves like living stones are now being built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God Through Jesus Christ for it stands in Scripture behold.
- 36:14
- I am laying in Zion a stone a cornerstone Chosen and precious whoever believes in him will not be put to shame and that's you and me brothers
- 36:24
- But we wish this also for everyone. We know and love so honor So the honor is for you who believe but for those who do not believe the stone the builder has rejected has become the
- 36:35
- Cornerstone and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense They stumble because they disobey the word as they were destined to do but you you are a chosen race
- 36:47
- You are a royal priesthood God has made you such by grace as a gift to the shed blood of Christ for you
- 36:54
- You are a holy nation and you are a people for God's own possession So that and here are the important words that you not your pastor you
- 37:04
- May proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light
- 37:13
- Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people once you had not received mercy
- 37:19
- But now you have received mercy And as members of this priesthood, we then pray
- 37:28
- Oh Lord Jesus this mercy that we have given us. We pray that Bob that Steve that Jane that Dolores whoever
- 37:39
- That they might to receive this mercy This is what it means to pray in Jesus name in the name of Jesus.
