What does it mean that we have eternity in our hearts? How is it that God makes everything beautiful, and in what ways has God set eternity in our hearts? The meaning of Ecclesiastes 3:11 helps us understand these things, providing us a better understanding of God’s timing. Ecclesiastes 3 11 states, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” In this video, Pastor Nelson with Bible Munch answers the question, “What does it mean that we have eternity in our hearts”. *** Source Article: https://www.gotquestions.org/eternity-in-our-hearts.html *** Check out, Bible Munch! @BibleMunch https://www.youtube.com/BibleMunch *** Recent Bible Munch Videos: Philippians 4:6 - What this misused verse really means. https://youtu.be/6DlZAWOvSDU Philippians 4:6 - Learn How to be Anxious for Nothing. https://youtu.be/jFDJatpmnds Psalm 1:1-6 - The Actual Prosperity Gospel https://youtu.be/5NSUio3INOI *** Recommended Resource: Ecclesiastes & Song of Solomon: Holman Old Testament Commentary [HOTC] Edited By: Max Anders https://bit.ly/3pCwCQJ *** Related Questions: What does it mean that “He has made everything beautiful in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)? https://www.gotquestions.org/everything-beautiful-in-its-time.html What does it mean that there is a proper time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1–8)? https://www.gotquestions.org/time-for-everything.html What does it mean that there is nothing new under the sun? https://www.gotquestions.org/nothing-new-under-the-sun.html Intro/Outro Music: https://www.purple-planet.com Note: Some links are affiliate links which cost you nothing, but help us share the word of God.

Today's question is, what does it mean that we have eternity in our hearts? In this video
00:05
I'll answer that question from a biblical perspective. Then afterwards, as always, I'll share some helpful resources, so stick around until the end.
00:21
Ecclesiastes 3 verse 11 states that God has set eternity in the human heart.
00:28
In every human soul is a God -given awareness that there is something more than this transient world.
00:34
And with that awareness of eternity comes a hope that we can one day find a fulfillment not afforded by the vanity in this world.
00:43
Here is a closer look at the verse. In the human heart is an expression representing the mind, soul, or spirit of each person.
00:52
God places eternity, in Hebrew olam, into our heart and soul.
00:58
The word translated eternity is much debated regarding its translation in this passage.
01:03
The word olam can be translated as darkness, eternity, or the future.
01:08
The use of this word could indicate darkness in the sense of ignorance, contrasting this concept with what follows in verse 11.
01:16
Yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. It could be that Solomon is contrasting human ignorance with God's perfect wisdom.
01:26
A better possibility, and the one that is the typical interpretation, is that olam refers to God's placing an eternal longing, or sense of eternity, in the human heart.
01:37
Taking this understanding to be the correct one, Ecclesiastes 3, verse 11 affirms the idea that humans operate in a different way than other forms of life.
01:47
We have a sense of eternity in our lives. We possess an innate knowledge that there is something more to life than what we can see and experience in the here and now.
01:58
The larger context of the chapter aids to our understanding of verse 11. Ecclesiastes 3, verse 1 says, "...there
02:05
is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
02:11
The next seven verses list a series of contrasts—love and hate, scattering and gathering, tearing and amending, weeping and laughter.
02:20
Then comes verse 11, which begins, "...he has made everything beautiful in its time."
02:26
In other words, life is comprised of opposite experiences in balance. God has appointed each to its season.
02:33
Each season is to be considered as part of a whole. Seasons come and go, but does anything in this life truly satisfy?
02:41
The answer in Ecclesiastes is no, all is vanity. Ecclesiastes 1, verse 2.
02:48
However, through all the ups and downs and vicissitudes of life, we have a glimpse of stability.
02:53
God has set eternity in the human heart. Life is but a vapor, James 4, verse 14, but we know there is something past this life.
03:03
We have a divinely implanted awareness that the soul lives forever. This world is not our home.
