Oh, good morning with Andy.
00:17
You'll open us up with a word of prayer. A following God, again, we thank you for who you are, who we are in Christ, and we pray now,
00:25
Lord, that you'd be with Brother Mike, be with us, Lord, help us to see you clearer and clearer, help us to be transformed into the image of Christ, to bless our time together, bless our study, and may you be pleased in all these things in Christ's name.
00:42
Amen. Let's open our Bibles to Revelation chapter 5.
01:38
And one of the elders said to me, stop weeping.
01:44
Behold, the lion that is of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has overcome so as to open the scroll and its seven seals.
01:52
And I saw between the throne with the four living creatures, the elders, a lamb standing as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out to all the earth.
02:08
And he came and he took the scroll out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne, and when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty -four elders fell down before the lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
02:27
And they sang a new song, saying, worthy are you to take the scroll and to break its seals, for you were slain and purchased for God with your blood men from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation.
02:44
And you have made them to be a kingdom of priests to our God, and they will reign upon the earth.
02:50
Then I looked and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders, and a number of them was myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, and they were saying with a loud voice, worthy is the lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.
03:12
And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea and all things in them,
03:20
I heard saying to him who sits on the throne and to the lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.
03:28
And the four living creatures kept saying amen, and the twenty -four elders fell down and worshipped.
03:36
Well, once again we are still in the throne room of heaven, and last week we really didn't get into verse 2.
03:47
We talked more about the scroll or in some translations the book and how we understand what it is.
03:54
We looked at some passages in the Old Testament, understanding that this scroll, we all, at least
04:02
I hope, came to the conclusion, or at least I can't let you know what my conclusion was, that this is a scroll that is going to unfold both blessing and cursing, and we looked at other passages in the
04:14
Old Testament that showed that, how it would point to that. Now, I was asked two questions, and I want to make this clear.
04:29
I was asked the question, am I saying that this is everything that's unfolding throughout history?
04:38
Anybody remember what the idealist perspective was? I know that's been 23 weeks ago or something ridiculous.
04:45
Anybody remember what the idealist perspective was? Anybody? Okay. One more time.
04:56
Go back over that one more time. Okay. Alright. The ideal, you know there was four views.
05:03
Anybody remember what the four views were? Now we got to have a primer on the four views.
05:10
No, I'm just kidding. I'm sorry? Oh, it's just your preterist? She done pulled out notes on y 'all.
05:18
Go ahead. No, no, no. You're right. Go ahead. The preterist. Okay. The historicist.
05:24
Correct. Futurism, and then the idealist was listed. That's a student. That's a student.
05:29
Making this look bad. Alright. I bet she's got definitions. Can you please define those for me? She probably can.
05:35
Look, here she goes. Based on principles. Correct. Alright. The idealist perspective, say this, has no regard for historical events.
06:04
Doesn't matter. Historical events don't matter. I'm going to be honest.
06:11
I think I said this. This is super appealing. Because then the dating of the book doesn't matter.
06:18
Y 'all remember me saying that? The dating of the book, if you hold to this position, the dating of the book does not matter.
06:25
Because then you can say, hey, these are events that will unfold through every generation.
06:32
And I think what caused that question from two people was, I said, hey, we can see how through every generation, those nations that oppose
06:45
Christ, that oppose his Messiah, we see, as we'll get to when we get to the full horsemen, you're going to see judgments that come on those nations.
06:54
Well, we all agree that as we look in the Old Testament, was war not an act of God's judgment against the people that rejected
07:03
God? Okay. When God sent the nation of Israel to go out and to wipe out the
07:15
Canaanites, or we'll just say the Amalekites. Let's use that because that was a little bit easier because the
07:21
Canaanites can be a more wide ranger. When God said he codified it in the Mosaic legislation,
07:28
I think if you were to put them in some type of order, you would get down to the last one and be around 613th command, or 14th depending on how you divide it.
07:38
What was the last thing he told them to do? You go in there and you wipe out the Amalekites. Did God just say wipe out the
07:44
Amalekites because he didn't like the Amalekites? Why did he say do it? Because when they were coming out of Egypt, what did
07:53
Amalek do? He came up behind and attacked the women and children. God said, no, no, no, I'm going to wipe them out for that.
07:59
You took advantage of them and that's why God did that. Therefore, war was an act of judgment to the
08:05
Amalekites for what they did when they came out of the land of Egypt. And he actually saw that through the prophet
08:12
Samuel, this is why you do it, because of what they did. So, the idealist perspective, as these seals, trumpets, and bowls unfold, they will take place either in that generation or successive generations over the course of redemptive history.
08:37
Yes, sir. Is that on? Well, I don't see you in the picture, is the thing.
08:46
It's my spirit. I have no idea. That is pretty wild.
08:52
Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt, but I was like, he's a vampire.
09:03
Well, this teaching really is spiritual. I have no idea.
09:15
You're a vampire. We will carry on. We will carry on.
09:20
It says it's on, but it's lying. So, throughout the course of history, these things will unfold.
09:28
That's why it does not matter about historical events if you're going to hold to the idealist perspective.
09:40
And I can give you men that hold to that perspective, and historical events do not matter. Probably one of the biggest proponents, and this can be called, if you have any commentaries, you might see it called the spiritual view.
09:57
That sounds fancier. And it doesn't matter what takes place in history, because it's just going to keep happening, regurgitating itself over and over and over.
10:12
Like I said, probably one of the biggest proponents of that, and most of us probably have heard of, would be Votibachman. I just heard that.
10:22
No video? No video. Okay. Well, I mean, the video is what we see on that screen.
10:28
Okay. So, explain that again about Votibachman, please. He holds the spiritual or idealist perspective, which means historical events don't matter.
10:38
Really? Yeah. When we were going through Daniel, when we got to chapter 7?
10:47
No. Actually, it started in chapter 2. Somebody was listening to what he had to say, and what
10:54
I had to say. And, hey, you're just saying something different than what he says. Well, one, I don't care what
10:59
Votibachman says. I don't mean that in a snarky way. Let's just be honest. He's responsible for how he comes to his conclusion.
11:04
I'm responsible for how I come to my conclusion. He says that when we look at the world powers, that was not actually looking at the success of Babylonians, Medo -Persians, the
11:20
Greeks, and then the Romans. He says, no, no, no, no. These are just empires that unfold through time. And I said, well,
11:26
I'm going to tell him he's wrong. Because when you get to 7 and 8 of Daniel, he specifically says
11:32
Greeks, Medo -Persian. Okay? Good.
11:37
What is his reasoning for that? I don't know. I don't care. I don't want you to think
11:42
I'm being snarky at all. What is he trying to get to about having that? Because you don't have to deal with historical events.
11:49
You don't have to say, hey, this, you don't have to say that this event was prophesied and then took place.
12:01
And most of it has to do with not wanting to say that the book of Revelations is a preteristic book.
12:09
And I'm fine. Look, if anybody in this room says that, hey, Mike, I think you're wrong about the preteristic approach.
12:17
No. And I'm going to say in just a minute that I'm not fully preterist. And I think I said that from the beginning. You probably got it wrote down.
12:25
I'm not full preterist. If you're a full preterist, then you're a heretic.
12:32
Everybody remember me telling you all that? If you're a full preterist saying that the book of Revelation is fully fulfilled, it's over, then that means
12:41
Christ has come. This is the eternal state. The new heaven and the new earth have been brought in. And this is it.
12:47
Hey, I mean, come on. Broke backs. Remember? We were just saying, this is the eternal state. This ain't real good.
12:54
Okay? So they use it so that they don't have to deal with historical events and they can say it unfolds through successive times over the course of history.
13:06
And I think it is appealing. It is very appealing because then as you're trying to understand the book of Revelation, you can say, yeah, but I do see where there is a beast -like person through every generation.
13:19
Wouldn't we agree that there's been beast -like antichrists through every generation?
13:26
I mean, come on. Let's just think about it. Was Hitler not a type of what we would say antichrist? Yes. Stalin.
13:33
Yes. We could say Idi Amin. Any of those men that persecute like that. And we see them in other nations where you have men that set up pictures of themselves in people's homes, whether it's
13:43
Gigi Ping or whether it's the dude that looks like a penguin in North Korea.
13:48
What's his name? Kim Jong -un. He looks like a penguin, doesn't he? Kim Jong -un, whatever.
13:56
Him. So they have pictures in there that want to be worshipped. What is the beast in Revelation has to do with, one, the beast comes up out of the land and the sea.
14:09
There's two. One is the actual governmental structure that wants to be worshipped. And then you always have the figurehead that comes along, which becomes the second beast, but actually then gets stolen into another chapter that's actually the false prophet.
14:24
That's the figurehead of that government that desires to be worshipped.
14:30
Does Gigi Ping desire to be worshipped? Does Kim Jong -il Dill Pickle, whatever his name is, does he want to be worshipped?
14:38
Yes, he does. Every dictator in the world wants to be worshipped.
14:43
But because I hold this perspective, and I'm even going to say partial because I don't believe it's fully.
15:00
See, our techie guy came in and got us going. I'm a preterist, meaning I believe that the vast majority of the book has been fulfilled, has taken place.
15:13
And why? Because I believe that the dating of the book was concerning.
15:19
Remember the date of the book? Before 70 A .D. Meaning those things are actually a prophecy towards the destruction of Jerusalem.
15:31
I can tell you what Votie Bachman did say concerning about the... Because another person calls me.
15:38
Hey, Votie said this. Dude, I don't care. He said that as the book of Revelation was being written...
15:44
And listen, I'm bashing Votie. When I say this, you'll go, hmm, then that book's not a book of prophecy.
15:51
He says as the book was being written, these things were already happening.
15:59
If these things were already taking place as the book was being written, is that a book of prophecy?
16:07
No. No. It's a recounting of things that had already started to take place. Now, can we say that the
16:17
Jewish rebellion that began in 66 had already started to take place?
16:23
Yeah, that started up in Galilee, and normally those little skirmishes started, and Rome was good about squashing them relatively quickly.
16:31
But that's not what happened. Could the skirmishes have started up in northern Galilee? Probably. I believe that they did.
16:37
But the full -on Jewish wars? No, not at that point. So, I do believe that you have...
16:47
This is the best way to apply the book of Revelation.
16:59
It's the best way to apply it. Meaning, we look at what has taken... As we see these seals that will unfold and will be broken by this
17:09
Lamb, as they are unfolding, we're going to see the
17:16
Jerusalem, the surrounding areas, ravished by the wrath of God.
17:24
In its immediate context, that's what it's saying. That's why I hold the preterist position.
17:31
But, if we're going to apply the book of Revelation, then we can say, because people reject the
17:39
Messiah, is not God going to do to every generation, culminating in the final judgment, what
17:51
He did to Jerusalem? And yes, that's how we apply the book. We skip the principle. Remember, you wrote down, there's principles.
17:58
We look at that principle that comes out of the preteristic approach and say, can we apply that?
18:04
Well, certainly. Now, there are going to be parts of the book that I can say is the idealist approach.
18:12
I will show you where those shifts come because it makes it very clear. He goes from...
18:20
I think the book primarily is talking about Jerusalem. And we know that that land, earth,
18:35
I think is Eretz. Greek word there. And it just means...
18:42
No. Gay. Correct? Gay. Gay.
18:52
Meaning land or earth. Meaning it's localized. I think this, either one can be good.
18:58
I think this is better for here because it's localized. But then you're going to see a shift when he goes from being land in parts of the book, and he goes nations, peoples, and kings.
19:24
So when he shifts from lands and he goes to nations, we've gone from here, now we've done what?
19:31
We've widened out the scope. So where at times the scope of what he is saying is specifically dealing with the destruction of Jerusalem, and at times in the prophecy that camera will then back out and you get a wider range.
19:53
I can show you where those shifts are. I've already said in the beginning, certainly the major shift in that will be at the end of chapter 10 to the end of chapter 13.
20:04
He makes a specific quotation. I'm now going to prophesy.
20:09
I want you to prophesy again about a little book or scroll, and this will be pertaining nations, peoples, and kings.
20:21
So for those that think I am double -talking, and I'm not saying that's what you're saying.
20:28
I just don't want you to think that's what I'm saying. I'm not double -talking. I think every generation that rejects
20:35
God, that rejects the revelation that he has sent and its finality, which is in Jesus Christ, they will suffer judgment.
20:46
I don't care what anybody says politically, okay? Ukraine and Russia are in a war together because they have rejected the
20:57
Messiah. That's all at the bottom. Look, if you love God and love your neighbor, are you going to kill your fellow man?
21:06
Be honest. I don't know anybody that's ever killed somebody because they loved them. No. They kill each one another because they hate
21:14
God and they hate their neighbor, okay? And God at any time can remove that hand of restraint and let it ravish, okay?
21:22
You have a country over there that's a communistic, although they have tried to mesh some capitalism within the country of Russia.
21:33
G .G .Pings did the best of it to keep his people from fighting. But he put a little bit of capitalism within their communism to keep the people down.
21:42
But communism does what? It does not want the worship of God or actually of anything other than the state, okay?
21:51
Same thing with Ukraine, okay? I mean, whatever you think about the
21:56
Zelensky guy, he wants to be God himself. He wants to call shots.
22:02
Therefore, anybody that rejects that God can at any point in time decide he's going to pull back his restraint and let things unfold, okay?
22:10
So, just remember, as I go through this, I believe that the book is primarily in the past.
22:20
And as we get to the seals, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,
22:36
I can show you where these have already unfolded. But these point to the end of the age.
22:50
To the end of the age. I want to say this time and time again as we go through this. As we get through this, the seals can be a little more harder to understand as you get towards the 6 and 7.
23:05
But the trumpets and the bowls, easier to understand because you actually see the shift.
23:12
So, in the seals, you've got these things that are taking place. Then you're going to have the sealing of the 144 ,000 or the sealing of the souls around.
23:21
And then you're going to have this half hour of silence in heaven.
23:27
Okay? When you have that half hour of silence in heaven, that is hard for interpreters to go, is that speaking of the final judgment or is that just a break in the narrative?
23:41
When we get there, I will try to make my point. But every one of these seals, trumpets, and bowls end in a final judgment.
23:54
When is the final judgment? At the end of the age.
24:00
At the end of the age. If we were living in a time of the destruction of Jerusalem, even if we were
24:09
Christians, okay? Let's just say we were Christians. Well, we are, but let's just say we were Jewish Christians.
24:15
And we had heeded the words of Christ. And we got out of Dodge and headed to the hills.
24:22
And we see the destruction unfolding. We saw the armies surrounding Jerusalem. We then see the smoke burning as a symbol of the destruction of what
24:32
Jesus said, hey, it would be better that day for the babies not to have been born and all that. Mothers suckling.
24:38
All right, okay. It would be better. And you look back, and would you have not thought this is the end of the world?
24:50
Yes. And we can say from an application point, was the destruction of Jerusalem, the tumbling of the temple and all that, the end of an age?
25:03
In many ways, we can. The old covenant at actually the last nail in the coffin, when it falls down, you've got no temple, you've got no
25:13
Holy of Holies, you've got no priesthood, and then you've got no Ark of the Covenant. Those were essential for Jewish worship.
25:21
If you don't have those, you don't have worship. And Jesus, in His judgment, used
25:27
Titus to squash that, never to be rebuilt again. So from their perspective, that was the end of the world.
25:38
But we see in here, and we'll see it with the trumpets and the bowls as well, well, wait a minute.
25:43
It's not the end of the world yet. Although it looks like it was. The end is not yet.
25:50
Why? Because then He goes on to say, there's going to be ones that need to be saved from every nation, tribe, and tongue.
25:56
God has sealed some, 144 ,000, which are actually, as we go through those, you're not all technically part of the 12 tribes of Israel.
26:09
Some are listed that never listed before, and then some ain't listed that were listed.
26:15
And when we get to that, we'll carefully walk through that. So, idealist, best way to apply the book.
26:26
Preterist is how I interpret the book. Partial preterist. Have any questions?
26:32
She has notes. All right. Meanwhile, back at the ranch.
26:40
Verse 2, because that's where we stopped. We saw
26:46
God sitting on the throne. He had this anthropomorphism. There was a scroll in His hand.
26:52
And then here it is. It says, And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?
27:00
Man, this is awesome. Here it is. Now we have, in the throne room of God, we have all these magnificent beings.
27:07
We've had these 24 elders. And then, this always tickles me every time I read it, this strong angel.
27:15
Aren't they all strong? Well, something about this one has to be different. He stands up like the sergeant of arms or something or as the bailiff in a courtroom, and he says this,
27:29
Who is worthy to open the book or the scroll and to break its seals?
27:34
He makes a clarion proclamation. Who is worthy?
27:44
And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or look in it.
27:51
Now, I think we said towards the end of the lesson last week, we're not talking about, does anybody have the ability to break a wax seal?
28:03
Sure. We can take a wax seal. We can pop that off. No big deal.
28:09
You can pull out your blade or whatever they use to cut the seals, and you could peel that wax seal off.
28:14
It's not about ability. It's about worthiness. Only who is worthy has the ability to open up.
28:22
If you were to open up a document of the last will and testament, which I believe this is, the last will and testament, and the unfolding of the script for the rest of the book, if you were to, let's say,
28:35
I died and I left Andy as the executor of my will. Cool. I leave it to him.
28:44
He'll get about $10. And I leave him as the executor of my will, but somebody else comes along, takes that from him, and then tries to be the executor.
29:00
You know that is, under Roman culture, that person could be put to death. Okay? That person was not worthy to do that.
29:09
Only person worthy is the one whom it was left to. And in this case, Jesus being the one who died, had his last will and testament, then him who resurrected from the dead is the one by which he is going to execute it.
29:22
Therefore, he was, not only was he the testator, he was the executor of what was going to take place.
29:28
That's just good stuff. Yeah, so he's the only one worthy. And as we get to that, we'll see it actually says why.
29:36
And it makes it very clear that no one in heaven, hey, they're in the throne room of heaven.
29:45
These majestic beings, okay, these four living beings, creatures, that represented all of God's creation, and no one spoke up.
30:00
No one said, no, no, Michael the archangel didn't speak up, this loud guy here, he didn't speak up and say he was able, nobody, nobody stood, walked forward and said, you know what,
30:14
I can be that guy. I'm the man that can do this. Nobody. Not even in heaven or on the earth.
30:23
And then he says not even under the earth, meaning there's nobody in, we'll just be honest, in Sheol, okay, in the underworld, where the dead are that are able.
30:35
Why? Because they're dead, but he's encompassing everything. Unable to open the scroll and look in it.
30:47
And then here's John in verse 4. And then I began to weep greatly, because there was no one found worthy to open the book or the scroll or to look in it.
31:03
Why was John crying? Anybody have any?
31:09
Go ahead. It's almost like he didn't, he didn't see anyone worthy to, because the judgment of God wouldn't have been fulfilled.
31:26
That's certainly my conclusion. Here it is, John knows what has taken place, the killing of the saints, okay.
31:36
Who killed most of God's people in the first century? The Jews.
31:42
We went through that when we were going through the seven churches. It says, who did they call the synagogue of Satan?
31:48
The Jews, yeah. Who primarily persecuted the people of God in the first century?
31:55
It wasn't Rome. Rome didn't care. Rome just said, hey, you pay your taxes, you do your thing.
32:02
Now the Jews did try to get Rome involved in that. And we do have, when Andy and Bert were going through Acts, you could just see how many times you go through the book of Acts, and if y 'all never read through the book of Acts, or y 'all could go back and do a study on it, man, there's a ton of movement.
32:21
You're not going to get bored reading Acts. There's just, it's a wide range of time, and it's just move, move, move, move, move.
32:27
And every time there was a persecution, and it usually began at the synagogue against Paul or his people that were with him, there was even one time they're beating the brakes off this guy.
32:41
And Gallo, the magistrate, was right there, and he did nothing about it.
32:48
He said, psh, ain't got nothing to do with me. That was the Roman magistrate. Let the Jews beat the tar out of the
32:54
Jews as long as they're not bothering us. They just saw it was a sect of Judaism, so they let them persecute one another, and it happened a lot.
33:04
Now there were times when they got the Romans involved to try to help them extinguish the
33:11
Christians, but it didn't work. It wasn't until 64, and we all remember what happened in 64?
33:19
Nero set Rome on fire. That's when persecution of the
33:25
Christians became the issue, because he said it was the Christians that set
33:31
Rome on fire. Then that became mostly just around in the area of Rome, not in its surrounding areas yet.
33:40
So the persecution, by and large, was through the Jewish people to the
33:47
Christian. Who did the Sanhedrin, before he was converted, give him the authority to go out and to murder
33:57
Christians and drag them off into slavery? Saul of Tarsus. Yep, Saul of Tarsus.
34:06
So the persecution was then. So here it is, John, he's wanting retribution.
34:15
He's wanting these things that have been wronged to be made right, and who's the only one that's able to do that?
34:25
Who's the only one that can dispense proper retribution? The Lamb. We'll see that.
34:33
You're right. God. And Jesus is who? God. And we'll see that.
34:39
As a matter of fact, it was so cool at the end of this chapter, we see they worship who? The one sitting on the throne, and who?
34:46
The Lamb. So man, people that say that Jesus is never represented as God in the Bible are stupid!
34:54
Well, they're just not reading the Bible at all. They're stupid! They're stupid! Because it's right there.
35:01
Jesus accepts worship by millions upon millions upon millions and thousands upon thousands upon thousands.
35:10
And it says they worship Him and the one seated on the throne. And he began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or the scroll.
35:25
And then one of the elders, well, it's one of these 24. I don't know. Was it one of the old representing one of the old?
35:32
Or was it one representing the new covenant? He says to John this.
35:38
Stop weeping. Behold, the lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has overcome and is so able to open the scroll and its seven seals.
35:54
Because this is what John has been waiting for. We now have a shift in the throne room of heaven.
36:03
We've got a shift of here it is. You've got these four living creatures, these 24 elders. You've got this clarion proclamation from this strong angel or loud angel, whatever you want to say.
36:16
And no one's able to open this. And then this elder speaks up.
36:25
Oh yeah, there's one. Stop crying, John. There's going to be someone that's worthy to open up.
36:32
And retribution will be done. There's one person that can do this. And he says who it is.
36:38
It's the lion that's from the tribe of Judah. Where do we find the lion of the tribe of Judah? That's right.
36:49
He blesses his son. Actually, I think some translations call him a lion's cub.
36:55
And I don't think that that's probably the best way of understanding it. Because you think a little cub, you see a little lion, and they're all playing and cuddly.
37:03
No, no, no, no, no. When you think about a lion's cub in that time, you're talking about a young strapping lion that was in its younger age, just out of juvenile, in its prime.
37:17
In its virile, able to attack.
37:23
Not getting in its old time where they start getting slow. No, no, it's in its prime. And that is the blessing that he gives him.
37:32
He gives the blessing of not only is he going to be the lion that would go out and conquer, but he would be the one that would have the scepter.
37:40
Matter of fact, let's turn over there real quick. It's 49.
37:48
49? What book? Genesis. 49 .8.
38:10
Here it is. He is given... He started with Reuben. He went through Simeon in verse 5 through 7.
38:18
He gets to Judah in 49 .8. And he says this, Judah, your brothers shall praise you.
38:25
Interesting, does anybody know what the word Judah means? To be praised? To be praised?
38:31
He said, your brothers shall praise you. Your hands shall be on the neck of your enemies.
38:37
Your father's sons shall bow down to you.
38:44
Hey, remember what caused Joseph to be thrown into the well? That very statement from Joseph saying, hey,
38:52
I had this dream, and check it out, dudes, y 'all are going to bow down to me. Now Jacob's telling
38:58
Judah, all your brothers are going to bow down to you. And Judah is a lion's whelp.
39:06
Does anybody say cub in there? Yeah, whelp's better. A lion's whelp.
39:12
From the prey, my son, you have gone up. His couches he lies down as a lion, and as a lion who dares rouse him up.
39:22
Meaning look at the vigor and the power to destroy in this lion.
39:28
And then the scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
39:41
Hey, does anybody, where it says, until Shiloh comes, does anybody else have another translation of that?
39:49
Tribute anybody else? Until him who...
39:55
Then it says, until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the one to have obedience of the peoples.
40:02
And he ties his fowl to the vine, and donkey's colt to the choicest vine.
40:08
He washes his garment in wine, his robe in the blood of grapes, and his eyes are dull from wine, and his teeth white from milk.
40:18
That's talking about absolute royalty. The word Shiloh means until the one in which the scepter belongs comes.
40:28
We think of Shiloh as often as a place where, you remember that's where the tabernacle was taken and actually then hauled off or destroyed in the time of the
40:43
Philistines. There's also a passage in the prophets where God told them, do you not remember what
40:53
I did to Shiloh? God destroyed Shiloh. That's not the Shiloh we're talking about here.
40:59
We're talking about a thing in which the power, the scepter, in which whom that scepter belongs, it will be
41:05
Him who it will go to. That's what Shiloh means. The one whom the scepter will belong to, it will be to Him.
41:12
And who will be the one whom the scepter belongs to? Christ. Christ.
41:18
That's who it's talking about. That's why Jesus is the lion of the tribe of Judah.
41:24
He is the one that will ravish His enemies. He will be the one that will be able to hunt down and arouse and to kill
41:32
His enemies. It will be Him whom which His brothers, meaning all the other 11 tribes, will bow down and worship.
41:40
It will be Him who will be of royalty, white teeth like milk, robe as blood, as grapes, and washes
41:48
His garments in wine. That all has to do with royalty. But now we go back to Revelation 5.
42:09
It says here in the root of David. Why was the lion of the tribe of Judah the root of David?
42:25
It did. David would come through the line of Judah. Then not only does
42:32
Jesus say, speaking of Jesus here, when we get to the end of the book, it's awesome, He says, not only am
42:37
I the shoot of David, I'm the root of David, meaning David came from Me, meaning who came first?
42:46
Christ. Christ came first. Matter of fact, even when he was...
42:51
I think he preached this a few weeks ago. The question of...
42:56
He was questioned under whose authority and he asked them... There was a passage of that in that same narrative where it talks about David.
43:08
Who came first? In that same passage. And they wouldn't answer.
43:14
Neither would they answer the baptism of John either. But at the same time, he was saying, look, when
43:21
Jesus said, my Lord said to my Lord, meaning this is David speaking in that same narrative, who was
43:28
David speaking of? He was speaking of Christ. Yeah, he was speaking of Christ. And that's what Jesus was saying.
43:34
Look, you're not going to answer this. You won't answer about the baptism of John. You won't answer about who was the
43:39
Lord of my Lord and the psalmist of David. He says, because it was Me. It was
43:45
Me it was speaking of. So not only is Jesus the shoot of Jesse that came from the tribe of Judah, but He is the root of David, meaning that's where David came from.
43:57
And it says here, and we'll wrap up. It says that He has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.
44:08
What does it mean to overcome so far in the book? We've seen it seven times in the end of each letter.
44:19
What does it mean to overcome? To persevere to the end. Persevere to the end.
44:25
I don't think there's anybody in this room that would not say that Jesus did not persevere to the end. Jesus persevered to the end.
44:33
Now, His perseverance looked much different than ours, okay? He persevered up to the point of death, carried
44:40
His cross to Calvary, then bearing the wrath of God in the place of every person that would ever believe,
44:47
He then became the overcomer by bearing what you and I deserved, and then
44:53
God exalted Him when He resurrected Him, giving Him a name above every name that every knee would bow, every tongue would confess to Him that He was
45:02
King of kings and Lord of lords. That's why He is the overcomer. That's why
45:07
He is the one that's worthy to open the seals. Has to be someone who would have paid the penalty due to be worthy.
45:22
It will go on here in the next few verses and it will talk about He was slain.
45:29
He was slaughtered. We need to understand that Jesus did not overcome,
45:35
He did not overcome by somehow paying the debt that was due to Satan for the penalty of sin.
45:46
You know, that is a heresy that started with origin. Origin. He is a heretic, okay?
45:53
In the third century, He said that the payment of the penalty was not to God for the sins of men, it was paid by Christ, by God through Christ to the devil so that get the title deed back to the earth.
46:11
You remember we talked about that last week. Title deed back. You know, it's actually called, if you want a technical term, it's the ransom theory and it's a heresy.
46:19
And it has been regurgitated through the health, wealth, prosperity. There have been songs that have been written about it where Jesus went to hell and He duped it out with the devil.
46:27
Yes, sir? I'm sorry, I'm lost. The heresy is called the ransom theory that somehow
46:37
Jesus overcome by paying the debt to the devil. His propitiation price was not paid to God.
46:47
It was paid to the devil. That is regurgitated.
46:54
Hey man, the health, wealth, prosperity gospel is filled with it. Joyce Myers, T .D.
47:01
Jakes, Joel Osteen, who's the guy that got the crazy face?
47:10
Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, I mean this whole...
47:15
Dude, they just... It's like, dude, don't you know that that is a heresy? Who did
47:20
Jesus pay the penalty to sin to?
47:26
It was the wrath of God, not the wrath of Satan. That's where you get into the dualism that God and Satan are at this and there is a cosmic war that's going on.
47:36
We see that in the book of Revelation. But don't for one second think that God somehow owed the devil anything.
47:42
You know what He owes the devil? The drop of the hammer. That's what He owes him. And He will get that.
47:47
His time is short. That's why He's trying to wreak havoc. We'll get more into that next week when we get to the
47:54
Arneion, which is the Greek word for the slain lamb.
48:00
Gary, you'll close us out with a prayer? Dear Father, we thank You for this time that we get to study
48:05
Your Word and listen to God's sanctuary and listen to the
48:13
Word of God there. We ask You, Lord God, to bless our minds Amen.
