Would That All the LORD's People Were Prophets (Numbers 11)

Pentecost isn’t an isolated “Acts 2 moment”—it’s been in the Bible’s bloodstream all along.

In Numbers 11, Moses is crushed under the burden of the people, and God answers by distributing the Spirit—not to exalt a structure, but to share the work and spread God’s presence. Even Eldad and Medad prophesy “in the camp,” reminding us the Spirit is not confined to official channels.

Moses’ prayer becomes prophecy: “Would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets…” And in Christ—through His death, resurrection, and ascension—that prayer is answered. The Spirit is poured out on all God’s people, and the nations are gathered as Babel is undone.

A warning remains: to crave “Egypt” over the bread from heaven is a road to graves. But the comfort is greater—Christ has given His Spirit, and the life of the Kingdom is meant to be carried into ordinary places, with reverence, faith, and confidence in God’s provision.
