Welcome to the teaching ministry of Kungsvinger Lutheran Church. Kungsvinger is a beacon for the gospel of Jesus Christ and is located on the plains of northwestern
00:18
Minnesota. We proclaim Christ and him crucified for our sins and salvation by grace through faith alone.
00:25
And now here's a message from Pastor Chris Roseberg. The Holy Gospel according to St. John chapter 1 verses 43 -51.
00:33
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him follow me. Now Philip was from Bethsaida the city of Andrew and Peter.
00:43
Philip found Nathanael and said to him we have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets wrote
00:49
Jesus of Nazareth the son of God, the son of Joseph. Nathanael said to him can anything good come out of Nazareth?
00:57
Philip said to him come and see. Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him behold an Israelite indeed in whom there is no deceit.
01:04
Nathanael said to him how do you know me? Jesus answered him before Philip called you when you were under the fig tree
01:11
I saw you. Nathanael answered him rabbi you're the son of God. You're the king of Israel.
01:17
Jesus answered him because I said to you I saw you under the fig tree do you believe? You will see greater things than these.
01:23
And he said to him truly truly I say to you you will see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the son of man.
01:30
This is the gospel of the Lord. In the name of Jesus. Amen. Voices voices everywhere.
01:36
Which of them shall you listen to? There's voices out there claiming to be speaking the word of God.
01:43
Let me give you an example. It's now 2018 and all of the people who claim that they hear
01:49
God's voice speaking directly to them claiming to be prophets have taken to the interwebs to pronounce the word of the
01:57
Lord for 2018. But there's a little bit of a problem. They're contradicting themselves.
02:03
One prophetess her name is Cindy Jacobs. She also claims to be an apostle. She says that 2018 is going to be a remarkable year.
02:14
It's just going to be blue skies abundance and blessing all around. Buckle up.
02:19
Get ready. Get the buckets out. God's rain is going to pour down. You better be ready to collect it.
02:25
But then Jim Baker who also claims to hear directly from God says that 2018 is the year of sorrows that there's going to be famine and pestilence and you better buy food buckets from him in order to survive what's coming and he's also prophesied that there will be a terror attack at the
02:45
Winter Olympics next month. Who are we to listen to? Then you think about that voice from the 19th century.
02:52
That voice by the name of Charles Darwin. His voice rang out and said oh no, no, no.
02:57
Man was not created in the image of God. God did not create the world in six days.
03:04
No, no, no, no, no. Your grandparents were all monkeys. And there's a lot of people today in the church of all places parroting those words.
03:14
Picking up the voice of Darwin and speaking it as if it's truth in Christ's church. But then what about that voice inside of your heart?
03:23
That voice that says oh it's just a white lie. It's not that big a deal.
03:30
This isn't really that damaging of a sin as long as it doesn't hurt somebody else.
03:37
Now often times we listen to that voice more than we listen to the crackpots on TBN. That voice that comes from our own sinful heart that would tell us to do likewise than what
03:48
God's word tells us to do. Voices, voices everywhere. To which of them do you ascribe deity?
03:55
To which of them do you bend the knee? It's kind of the question before us today. Hebrews 1 verses 1 through 3 says this.
04:05
Long ago and many times and many ways God spoke to our fathers by the prophets.
04:13
But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son whom
04:19
He has appointed the heir of all things through whom also He created the world.
04:25
He, Jesus, is the radiance of the glory of God, the exact imprint of His nature.
04:30
He upholds the universe by the word of His power. You see the question before us is where can we hear the voice of this fellow?
04:40
Where do you go today to hear the voice of Jesus? To hear the voice of God?
04:47
There's a lot of voices claiming to be the voice of God, but to which of them should you hang your hat?
04:53
To the ones claiming to be receiving prophetic revelation? To the scientists who deny that the world is a special creation?
05:01
To your own voice within your heart challenging what God has said is sin and not sin?
05:07
Or the voice of the devil that comes and tempts you? Which voice do you ascribe God's voice to?
05:15
In 1 Samuel, our wonderful phrase that's worth picking up, but the story is too good to not tell, 1
05:23
Samuel chapter 3, we learn about the boy Samuel. Samuel, by the way, was the very, very first of a particular type of prophet in the
05:32
Old Testament. Moses himself was a prophet. Deuteronomy 18 makes this very clear, that Moses was a prophet.
05:39
He heard God's word and he spoke God's word to the people. He was basically kind of a relay station.
05:46
God spoke, it stopped there, he relayed the message, and when God speaks and you are to speak what he says, you don't modify the message.
05:58
That's no bueno. Eternal consequences will ensue. But Moses faithfully relayed what
06:06
God spoke, and he prophesied that there would be a prophet who would be like him, who would arise, to whom we must listen.
06:12
He prophesied about Jesus. And in the interim, God raised up another set of prophets.
06:19
They became known as the School of the Prophets, and you can say their founding member was a fellow by the name of Samuel.
06:25
And here we see his call, and this wonderful attitude that we as Christians ought to consider applying in our own lives.
06:33
The boy Samuel was ministering to Yahweh in the presence of Eli. If you know the story, Samuel was a child who was born because of the prayers of his mom, who was barren.
06:44
And she dedicated him to the Lord, and although he was not a Levite, she sent him to work in the tabernacle as a young boy, and he was there ministering under Eli.
06:55
Eli, we'll just say, was a permissive fellow. Not a very faithful high priest at the time.
07:01
In fact, not only was he permissive in things that he ought not to do, and you'll see that in just a minute, his sons also served at the tabernacle with him.
07:09
And these were, well, worthless fellows. They liked to hook up with some of the ladies who worked at the tabernacle.
07:18
Hooking up with the ladies working at the tabernacle is a sexual sin, and Eli knew about it, and he did nothing, nothing to stop it.
07:26
But keep that in mind. Samuel's serving, he's not a Levite, he's serving in the tabernacle under Eli, and the word of the
07:35
Lord was rare in those days. There was no frequent vision. At that time, Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place.
07:45
The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the
07:51
Lord where the ark of God was. That's a polite way of saying that Samuel was actually sleeping in the
07:58
Holy of Holies. Which you're not supposed to do. I mean, you're only supposed to enter the
08:05
Holy of Holies once a year, with the sacrifice for the day of atonement, and the blood then gets poured on the mercy seat, which is the lid for the ark of the covenant.
08:15
He's sleeping in the Holy of Holies, and Eli's doing nothing to stop this. But God is merciful, he doesn't counsel against Samuel.
08:21
And so the Lord then decides that he's going to have a conversation with Samuel. The Lord called to Samuel, and Samuel said, here
08:29
I am. And he ran to Eli and said, here I am, you called me. And he said, I didn't call you.
08:36
Go lie down again. So he went and he lay down. So the Lord called Samuel again.
08:42
Samuel. Samuel rose. Went to Eli and said, here I am, you called me. What an obedient child.
08:48
How come my kids weren't like this? But he said, I did not call you, my son. Lie down again. Now Samuel did not yet know the
08:56
Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. And the Lord called Samuel again the third time.
09:01
And he rose and went to Eli and said, here I am, you called me. Eli perceived that Yahweh was calling the boy.
09:08
Therefore Eli said to Samuel, go, lie down. And if he calls you, you shall say, speak
09:16
Yahweh, your servant, your slave listens. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
09:24
And the Lord came and stood. Ooh, this is language that evokes
09:29
Genesis 3, where the Lord is walking in the cool of the day. So you know who's showing up here?
09:35
It's Jesus. He's the one. He's the one standing there. So the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times.
09:43
Samuel. Samuel. Samuel said, speak for your servant listens.
09:55
Great attitude, by the way. Great way to respond. When God speaks, we say
10:00
Lord, speak, and we will listen. But that begs the question, where do we go to find the voice of God?
10:08
Where is God speaking today? Is He wanting to speak to you inside of your heart to give you special revelation of your supposed
10:18
God -given destiny that you're supposed to fulfill in this life? Is He raising you up to be some kind of a prophet who will say nonsensical words like, this is the season where suddenlies will happen?
10:29
Where is God speaking? Because we as Christians, our attitude should be speak,
10:35
Lord, for your servant listens and hears. Let's consider our Gospel text as we try to find the answer to this.
10:43
John chapter 1, our Gospel text says this. The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee.
10:49
And this was after He had called Peter to be His disciple. And even after John the
10:54
Baptist, upon seeing Jesus, said behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. So Jesus is in Galilee.
11:01
By the way, Galilee is not exactly known as one of those places that produces profound theologians.
11:07
Galilee is kind of a blue -collar town. The people there are earthy.
11:13
And you recall in Luke's Gospel when Jesus did call Peter to be His disciple, that as part of that whole ordeal in calling
11:21
Peter to be His disciple, Peter realized who Jesus was and realized just how sinful
11:26
He was. And he said to Jesus, depart from me, I am a sinful man. And indeed
11:33
He was. Even going so far as to betray Christ and disown
11:38
Him when He was on trial. So Jesus goes to kind of a fruitless territory to raise up disciples.
11:47
And He found Philip. And don't think that just because this is a blue -collar town these kids didn't know their catechism.
11:53
And that's kind of the point you're going to see this here. Although these guys grew up in blue -collared
11:58
Galilee were hard -working people whose hands were rough and gnarled from the work that they were doing, they knew their
12:06
Bible. And the only Bible they had was the Old Testament. You can see this. So Jesus found
12:12
Philip and He said to him, follow Me. Notice He did not say if you make a decision you can ask
12:19
Me into your heart and then you can decide to follow Me. No. When Jesus says, follow
12:25
Me, that's not to invoke your free will because you don't have free will when it comes to God.
12:31
You see, Jesus is speaking the way God speaks in Genesis where He says, let there be light and there was light.
12:37
Jesus says later to His disciples, you did not choose Me. I chose you.
12:44
So there's Jesus. Out there in Galilee He says to Philip, you, follow Me. And guess what happens when
12:51
Jesus speaks in that way? Philip decides to get up and follow Him because Jesus said so. It was
12:56
Jesus doing the choosing. Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found
13:02
Nathaniel and he said to him, so you know immediately after beginning following him Philip has got to go tell everybody about Jesus and watch these amazing words
13:11
We have found Him which means they were looking for Him.
13:17
And the only way they would know that they were looking for somebody like Jesus was because they were reading their Bible because the
13:23
Old Testament, it's all about Jesus. It's pointing to Jesus, creating the expectation that the
13:30
Messiah will come. They're waiting for God's chosen anointed one to appear and Philip says, we've found
13:38
Him and listen to these great words. The one of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote.
13:44
Ah, and he connects the one who the prophets wrote about to Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph Now Nathaniel also being a well -catechized
13:54
Jew although working tough in a blue -collar job, he knows his Bible and he's going through the database in his mind going, whoa, wait a second here.
14:04
The Messiah is not supposed to come from Nazareth. The Messiah is supposed to come from Bethlehem. And so he immediately kind of puts the brakes on and he asked the question, can anything good come out of Nazareth?
14:17
That's not where the Messiah is supposed to be from See, he knows his Bible and you're going to note that Jesus credits him for this in just a minute.
14:25
So Philip said to him, all right, come and see Now as they're approaching, Jesus saw
14:30
Nathaniel coming toward him and he said to him, behold an
14:35
Israelite in whom there is no deceit. And the reason he's crediting him is because of his biblical skepticism because he knows where Jesus is supposed to be from.
14:50
And so Jesus doesn't knock him for saying, whoa, wait a second Jesus praises him for it because Philip and Nathaniel already know where to hear the voice of God and to hear the voice of God in the scriptures.
15:05
And you're going to note these fellows are not tainted by the false religion of the Pharisees and their false views that there is a second voice of God to be found in what's called the oral
15:16
Torah. These guys aren't tainted by that. They know Moses and the prophets and they know this.
15:22
And Jesus says to Philip that this Nathaniel, that he's a fellow in whom there is no deceit because well, you can think of it this way.
15:32
Nathaniel and Philip are the first two Bereans before there were Bereans. That's the idea.
15:37
And Jesus praises them for that. So Jesus said, behold an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.
15:44
Nathaniel said to him, how do you know me? And then Jesus says something that he can only know miraculously because he's the son of God.
15:53
Jesus answered him, before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree,
15:58
I saw you. Nathaniel answered him, Rabbi, you're the son of God. You're the king of Israel.
16:05
Now remember when Peter made his great confession about who Jesus was. You know, who do people say that I am?
16:10
Peter chimes up and eventually says, you are the Christ, the son of the living God. And Jesus says to Peter, flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my
16:20
Father who is in heaven. And you sit there and go, take a look at this fellow. Right at the very beginning as he's being called to be a disciple,
16:28
Jesus miraculously tells him something about his life that he could not possibly have known, crossing through time and space, which
16:34
Jesus has this amazing ability to do. And he believes, and we must conclude from the other passages of Scripture, that it is
16:42
God who has now worked in him to make this confession regarding Christ. And so Jesus basically says to him, because I said to you
16:52
I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? Man, this guy's bowled over pretty easily, right? You will see greater things than these.
16:59
And he said to him, Amen, Amen. I say to you you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the
17:08
Son of Man. The exact same language by the way used for Jacob's ladder. Now this is for a different sermon at a different time, but it's important for us to always remember that Jacob's ladder is not a what,
17:19
Jacob's ladder is a who. Jesus is Jacob's ladder. He's the one who crosses the gap between heaven and earth.
17:26
He is the one who has descended to earth and has ascended. He is Jacob's ladder.
17:31
Different sermon though. Now remember what Hebrews said, Long ago at many times and in many ways
17:36
God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by our son.
17:44
And the words of Samuel the prophet speak, Lord, your servant listens.
17:50
So again I beg the question, and rephrase the question, where on earth are we to go to hear the voice of God?
17:56
You'll note that Philip and Nathaniel are praised for listening to the voice of God in the written scriptures.
18:04
Well, remember that Jesus, whose disciples he's calling right now in our text, later tells his disciples these important words, the one who hears you, hears me.
18:18
The one who rejects you, rejects me. The one who rejects me, rejects him who sent me.
18:26
That's Luke chapter 6, verse 49. So the one who hears you hears me. Now in our confessions, when we confess the apostles in the
18:34
Nicene Creed, in the Nicene Creed we say things like this, we believe in one holy, universal, and here's the word, apostolic church.
18:45
What do we mean by that word? What is meant by it? How are we to understand it?
18:51
Apostolic means that this is a church that preaches the apostolic message, the apostolic scriptures, the apostolic gospel, the one that the apostles taught.
19:04
Because how many books did Jesus write? Zero. How do we know about Jesus? What he did, what he said, what he said would take place.
19:13
How do we know about anything about Jesus? Answer, only through his disciples who became the apostles.
19:20
So to be an apostolic church is to confess that the only place we know of where we can say with 100 % certainty that we are hearing the voice of Jesus is in the apostolic word written for us in the
19:36
Bible. Plain and simple. Now someone recently asked me, Pastor Rosebrill, how do
19:43
I know whether that voice inside of me is the voice of the Holy Spirit or is the voice of my own sinful flesh or the voice of the devil?
19:52
Great question, by the way. Fantastic question. How do you know? Answer, when the voice inside of your head is reciting back scripture, you're hearing the voice of the
20:02
Spirit. Let me put it this way. Scripture itself tells us to meditate on God's word.
20:09
Meditate on it. What does that mean? It does not mean going and sitting in the lotus position, taking your fingers and your thumb and doing this and going om.
20:20
No. Meditate, the Hebrew word for meditate, is a very interesting word picture.
20:26
We've all seen cows. I know Roger has dealt a lot with cows. When we visited his home very early here at Kongsvinger, you guys had cows at your home.
20:35
And I went out with him and he took hay and was feeding the cows from this ginormous thing of hay.
20:42
And what do cows do when they eat? Nom, nom, nom.
20:48
It's terrible to look at. But you know what I'm saying. They chew their cud.
20:53
They chew and they chew and they chew, chew, chew, chew, chew. That's what the
20:59
Hebrew word for meditate literally is the word picture for. Take God's word inside of you and nom, nom, chew on it.
21:09
That's the idea. You want to get God's word deep down inside of you, you take it, you read it, you think about it, you meditate on it, let your mind keep grinding on it and thinking about it and letting the depth and the magnitude suck the morrow out of the word of God so that it gets deep down inside of you.
21:32
Memorize it. This is a foreign concept nowadays. Take portions of scripture, memorize it so that you own it and what you will find happening is that as you meditate on God's word, as God's word gets inside of you, remember
21:48
God's word is living, it's active, sharper than a double edged sword.
21:54
And there's a reason for this that we'll talk about that in just a second. But as God's word gets inside of you, as life circumstances come your way, remember when
22:04
Jesus was tempted in the wilderness to do all kinds of bizarre stuff because the devil's a sick puppy? How did
22:10
Jesus send the devil packing? It is written this, that, and the other thing. Quoted Deuteronomy to him.
22:16
And that's the idea. So when the voice inside of your head is saying the exact same thing as scripture, you're hearing the voice of the spirit.
22:24
How do I know this? Well, consider with me what 2 Timothy chapter 3 says starting in verse 14.
22:30
Paul writing to young pastor Timothy who was one of the pastors of a congregation in the city of Ephesus.
22:36
He writes to him and he says, as for you young pastor Timothy, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings.
22:52
Hmm. Old Testament. And it's funny because as Paul's writing this, he's now also writing scripture.
22:58
The sacred writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus and important words that we should all be familiar with.
23:07
All scripture grafe is the Greek word. Grafe means writing. All scripture is breathed out by God.
23:16
Theonoustos. The picture here, breathed out by God. Think of it this way.
23:23
Adam. When Adam was formed by God, there's his lifeless body made from the dust of the earth.
23:30
Not yet alive. But it says God breathed on him the breath of life.
23:37
So you have this wonderful picture of God, of Christ standing over the lifeless body of Adam and going.
23:46
And he wakes up. You see, all scripture is breathed out by God and it's profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness so that the man and we'll even say woman of God may be complete.
24:02
Tell us finished and equipped for. Listen to these words. Every good work.
24:08
There is no good work that Christ is calling you to do or will call you to do that God's word, the written word of God, will not prepare you for.
24:18
In fact, you know with certainty every time you open up God's word and you are reading it in context that you are hearing the voice of God.
24:28
So if you want to hear the voice of God, read your Bible. If you want to hear it out loud, read it out loud or come to church and when the pastor is preaching the word and you are hearing the word of God, you're hearing not his voice.
24:43
You're hearing God's voice. Now the pastor deviates and starts teaching nonsense. Then you're hearing the voice of the devil.
24:49
Sack that fellow, right? Even if it's me, that's the idea. You're here to hear God's voice, not mine.
24:55
You're here to hear Jesus, not me. That's the idea. So the word of God will equip you for these things.
25:02
So this living active word of God is the place where we as Christians say, speak Lord, your servant is listening.
25:11
Speak and God speaks. Now, I want you to consider something then.
25:17
This Jesus who said the one who hears the apostles hears him. This Jesus has spoken through the
25:23
Apostle John and I want you to consider the very last chapter of the Bible.
25:29
If you would look with me at Revelation chapter 22 and I want you to hear the words of Jesus in the pen, in the quill of John, John the
25:39
Apostle, not John the Baptist but John the Apostle. And I want you to consider this, that this chapter literally is not just the last chapter in your
25:49
Bible. It is the very last chapter written in all of Scripture.
25:56
Put it on a timeline chronologically. The Gospel of John is the last book to be written.
26:03
It is written when John is a very old fellow. John was very young when he was called as a disciple and they tried killing him several times to make him a martyr and it didn't work.
26:15
God wouldn't allow him to be killed. So they exiled him. Exiled him to Patmos.
26:22
And this is where he is. So he's an old fellow. He's now got gray hair.
26:27
Probably a little senile and cranky like me. But you get the idea. So this is an old fellow. Peter's long gone.
26:34
Paul is long dead. The other disciples are in their graves having died martyr's death and he now is receiving this wonderful vision of what is coming and seeing the third heaven and the throne of Christ and the saints around the throne of Christ worshiping
26:54
Christ. And so what we're hearing here is the very close of the Bible itself.
27:00
And listen to the words of Jesus in this revelation. So the angel he showed me the river of water of life bright as crystal flowing from the throne of God and of the
27:12
Lamb through the middle of the street of the city also on either side of the river the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit yielding its fruit each month.
27:24
Very fascinating thing that we got this picture of. Water of life. Even in the new earth water of life somehow talking about baptism and the tree of life and the twelve fruits.
27:37
Makes you wonder about those twelve disciples and maybe the cross. Something like that. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations and no longer will there be anything accursed but the throne of God and the
27:48
Lamb will be in it and his servants will worship him. They will see his face and his name will be on their foreheads and night will be no more.
27:57
They will need no light of lamp or sun for the Lord will be their light and they will reign forever and ever.
28:05
He said to me these words are trustworthy and they are true and the Lord the God of the spirits of the prophets has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.
28:16
And now hear the words of Jesus. Behold I am coming soon.
28:23
Blessed is the one who keeps. Tereo is the Greek word. It means to guard.
28:29
Guards the words of the prophecy of this book. A little bit of a note here.
28:36
Last chapter of the entire book of the Bible. Chronologically the last.
28:42
Which book of prophecy do you think Jesus is referring to? Do you think he's merely referring to the book of Revelation?
28:50
No. Because we have other passages where Jesus in the gospel says the one who loves me will guard my word.
29:00
So blessed is the one who keeps the words of this prophecy of this book and I don't think you're out of place to say this is not referring merely to the book of Revelation but is referring from Genesis all the way up to this point.
29:15
And then I John the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me.
29:23
But he said to me you must not do that. I am a fellow slave with you and your brothers the prophets.
29:32
Notice that the angel puts John on the same level as the prophets. They're all servants serving you.
29:38
And they're the ones writing these things to serve us. So I'm the servant slave just like your brothers the prophets and with those who guard the words of this book.
29:51
Worship God. And then he said to me do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book for the time is near.
29:58
Let the evil doer still do evil. The filthy still be filthy. The righteous still do right.
30:03
The holy still be holy. Behold again Jesus is speaking. I am coming soon bringing my recompense with me to repay each one for what he has done.
30:13
I am the Alpha and the Omega. The first and the last. The beginning and the end. Blessed are those who wash their robes so that they may have the right to the tree of life that they may enter the city by the gates.
30:27
So brothers and sisters. Let me take a moment here to reflect. We're all guilty of listening to voices that we ought not to listen to.
30:35
Listening to the voice of the devil. Listening to the voice of false teacher. Listening to the voice of our own sinful flesh and our own sinful hearts.
30:44
And as a result of listening to them we have believed and done things that have soiled our robes with the filth of sin.
30:54
There's no way around it and there's no tide pods that you can use to clean it out.
31:02
Nothing you can do. However remember that from the side of our savior after he was pierced, bruised, nailed to the tree, suffered, bled, and died that when the
31:15
Roman soldier thrust his spear into the side of Christ out flowed blood and water.
31:22
The two things when mixed together become our baptism. And it is in the blood of Christ that we wash our robes that have been soiled with sin so that they can be made white by the crimson blood of Christ.
31:39
And Jesus says of those who have been united with him in his death and his resurrection who've had their sins washed away by the water of life mixed with the blood of Christ in baptism that they are blessed and they have the right to the tree of life that they may enter the city by the gates.
31:57
That's you and me. So let us never forget the great gift that God has given us in our baptism to wash away our sins.
32:04
Let us always remember that our baptismal water flows from the cross itself and that we in the hearing the voice of Jesus realize that we are blessed.
32:17
Now outside of the city gates, outside of the new Jerusalem are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and listen, everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
32:32
Falsehood from the person who sits there and says I'm hearing the voice of God and you need to come to me to learn what
32:39
God is saying right now for this season. To the person who twists God's word and makes merchandise of people and tells you send in your seed offering to me and God will bless it.
32:50
To the person who listens to the voice of the world and its pleasures or the voice of your own sinful flesh and its desires.
33:00
To the one who practices falsehood, loves falsehood, doesn't love to hear the voice of God and his truth.
33:08
Those people are outside the city gates. They have no place in the new Jerusalem.
33:14
And then Jesus says I have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches.
33:19
I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright and the morning star. The spirit and the bride say come.
33:25
And let the one who hears say come. And the one who is thirsty, come. Let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
33:33
And I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. Again, I keep pointing to all of scripture.
33:41
The one who hears the words of the prophecy of this book, if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
33:48
And if anyone takes away from the words of the books of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city which are described in this book.
33:58
You see it is a sin to listen to other voices than the voice of God. Eve, in listening to the voice of the serpent, plunged us into the mire that we find ourselves in.
34:09
So we must repent and keep this in mind. That God, when his voice rings out, it must always be a solo.
34:18
It is never part of a choir. And if you're mixing the voice of God with other voices and making him sing tenor in a choir or in a trio or a quartet or whatever, you're falling short.
34:33
You're adding to his words or worse, you're subtracting from it.
34:38
And this is sin. Sin that we must repent of. Sin that we must be forgiven of.
34:44
So listen only to the voice of God. There's only one place you can go to hear it. And that's the written word of God.
34:51
Listen to his voice. And listen to him singularly. He will never lie to you.
34:58
And he who testifies to these things says, surely I am coming soon. Amen, amen.
35:03
Come, Lord Jesus. So brothers and sisters, the word of God has spoken.
35:09
God has condemned us for our idolatry to listen to other voices. And he has assured us of the forgiveness of our sins because of what
35:16
Christ has done for us on the cross. He has assured us that this has been applied to you individually by uniting you to him in his death and his resurrection in the waters of baptism.
35:27
And he assures you that he is coming quickly, soon, very soon, and that you will see him face to face and enjoy the delights of eternal life in a world without end.
35:38
All of this by his grace through faith. So stop listening to the other voices. Repent.
35:44
Be forgiven. And in bearing fruit and keeping worth repentance we say, speak, Lord. Your servant listens.
