The Prophet Jeremiah Part 6

All that kind of fun stuff. So hang on a second. I'm gonna switch this just a little bit. There we go.

I Only got like two people ready for Bible study three four, it's like herding cats, you know

Huh, no, no you go Yeah, nobody takes a

Bible study seriously until the pastor prays it's it's really sad Yeah All right, we're gonna get started let's pray and we will get into it

Lord Jesus again as we open up your word We ask through your Holy Spirit that you were that we would rightly

Understand and what you have revealed there so that we may confess and do according to what you have told us in your word

We ask in Jesus name. Amen Okay So real quick.

I did see that there was a question that came in why? During Advent and Lent do all alleluias disappear now, you'll note in in Lent.

It's a hard disappearance There are no alleluias in the liturgy. There are no alleluias in the hymns in the in Advent season

There's no alleluias in the liturgy, but there there are alleluias that appear in the in the hymns

And you'll note that most things are in a minor key the idea then is is that each of these seasons

Advent and Lent are penitential seasons and Alleluias are a little out of order

We kind of we mute them or pull them back for the purpose that when we finally do get to the big celebration the celebration of the birth of Christ and then in Easter the celebration of the resurrection of Christ that the that you know

They come back out and they have a bigger impact, you know by kind of having to disappear for a little bit

They have a bigger impact and it's it's refreshing to have it all back. So this is a practice that the church came up with years and years and years actually millennia ago and all of this is based upon the book of Actually, I would say

Leviticus specifically and the idea then is is that When you look at how the feast days worked out in the

Mosaic Covenant That leading up to the big day of atonement

The the people were expected to fast they were expected to you know, you know be

Reflective on things like that leading up to that particular feast so the idea then is is the church following their cues from the

Mosaic Covenant and putting together the Church year and the readings that we would have

Really saw that there are you know, two big actually three big festivals if you would within Christendom and The the first is the the birth of Christ second is the resurrection of Christ Third is

Pentecost. Those are those are big kind of big feast days But leading up to the birth of Christ and to the resurrection of Christ always the alleluias are either

Muted subdued or are gone all together in length. They are they are gone all together. Hang on a second here

I'm gonna actually read a large portion of it out and we'll save up questions alone

But I want to make a little bit more. Hey Here in this in this passage and we've already made the argument that Jeremiah in the types and shadows

Is the prophet who kind of gives us what the state of the church will be? Leading up into the return of Christ because in second

Thessalonians you have that prophecy regarding the Hang on a second here to watch my throat

You know, can you guys believe this like head cold still exist I thought that we got rid of them when we did the two weeks to flatten the curve thing.

I thought they were gone so Yeah, no, no,

I I don't have COVID believe me I do not have COVID and there's a big difference between a head cold and COVID.

I know the difference by quite personally. So Chapter 3 I'll start at verse 15

But again, Jeremiah is our prophet leading in, you know, giving us in the types and shadow

What's the apostasy looks like in the road before the return of Christ number of people in Judah who are going to survive?

who are actually going to listen to the voice of God and the prophet Jeremiah and And live to tell the tale

It's going to be less than 5 ,000. It's really horrifying when you read the number of people who go into exile

You know if you've ever thought of the exile you think of the book of Daniel you think of Ezra Nehemiah you think of Esther When you think of the exile going into the exile less than 5 ,000

Jews less than 5 ,000 survived That's horrifying when you think about it, okay, and when they come out of exile 70 years later

They've multiplied and the population has gone up and not significantly There's just a small amount of them and and so you'll note that in apostasy times of apostasy those who actually believe

God Listen to his word. They dwindle down to a small Small remnant and it's an annoying if you ask me.

I always like to say there's nothing great about the great apostasy Yeah, well

Yeah, yeah There have been times when it's like yeah, we've gotten down to like one or maybe one family

Yeah, Noah was a preacher of righteousness. He preached for 120 years while building the ark Nobody listened to him except for his family.

You know you have to wonder if they thought well. You know dad's kind of crazy Hang on while I work on my back of my throat all right, let's read

So God is speaking I will give you shepherds after my own heart who will feed you with knowledge and understanding

When you have multiplied and been fruitful in land in those days declares Yahweh They shall no more say the ark of the covenant of the

Lord it will not come to mind or be remembered or missed It shall not be made again you guys ever

So then what happened to the ark of the Lord I? Don't know Yeah, you guys know how they are

No, I don't know who would happen to the ark does it matter no It was it was a type and shadow pointing to Christ and the mercy seat

You know really interesting features of it, but you'll note that certain esoteric Sex if you want to call them that esoteric religions

That are steeped in Gnosticism You know often and again, they they try to talk about the importance of the ark of the

Covenant and As if somehow it has any ongoing Significance it doesn't at that time

Jerusalem be called the throne of Yahweh all the nations shall gather to it This is an eschatological promise to the presence of Yahweh in Jerusalem They shall no more stubbornly follow their own evil heart if you want to know what our problem is as a race there

It is right there We Follow our own stubborn evil hearts verse 17 by the way you have to follow me

Yeah, you know those are you here verse up? Yeah, so what's the problem in the church today? You got a lot of people who are following their own stubborn evil hearts

Yeah, I give you just kind of two salient examples so there's a fellow who writes for relevant magazine

You ever heard of relevant magazine Okay, it's a it's a magazine that is

Marketed to the skinny jeans set so clearly I'm outside of their demographic But these would be like you're you know up -and -coming vision casting leaders and purpose -driven churches

Your worship leaders and things like that and always and again the call the call for Christians is to To stop doing what the world considers to be irrelevant and make your church relevant right and the fellow who writes for it is a guy named by the name of John Poplovitz and He's he's a

Unitarian. He's not even a Christian. He denies the doctrine of the Trinity he writes for for relevant magazine and He has recently put an article out basically

Attacking the Word of God and You sit there and go How does one?

Claim to be a Christian number one or have anything to say to Christians and they have taken on a hostile posture towards the

Word of God If you were to think of it this way basically what this fellow is asking us to do is answer this question

Whose words do you trust more? the Bible's or mine

That's really that's really your choice. Anybody who's attacking the scripture. They're not saying it in so many words, but they are

Absolutely implying that my words can be trusted over scripture. I know better than the

Bible and You'll note that this is what we do We follow our own stubborn evil hearts.

And so in order to make the church relevant We got to get rid of all of the doctrines that the world is offended by today

Give you some examples Jesus is the only way of salvation very offensive, right?

You don't trust in Christ. Well, then you're on the Day of Judgment It's not gonna go well for you, right?

The world does not want to hear God created the male and female So that's got to go right what what the world wants is for they want a religion where their imaginary and fictitious deity

Affirms them in their false doctrines and in their sin That's what they want.

And so we stop follow our own stubborn evil hearts and there you have it now I'll give you another example this one

I probably am gonna end up doing a video on because I just saw I saw the evidence for this yesterday

So there's a fellow by the name of Hank Kuhneman who is a major disciple of Ken Copeland and Hank Kuhneman I always note that he likes giving when he gives prophecies.

He always sings them He always looks like he's passing a kidney stone when he's doing it But when when

Hank Kuhneman is is prophesying, you know Yeah He's got the band going off in the background and he's got his eyes closed and he just looks like he's in pain and agony

Well, he's you know, I'll say it the Lord Trump is gonna be reinstated in office No later than October 23rd and well that's come and gone and you know he's been saying that Trump's gonna be really put back in office since the inauguration and and so now

I Mean so what they talk about people doubling down that's that's a phrase right doubling down Then you got tripling down this guy not only has doubled down just a week ago.

He claimed that Jesus Appeared on the stage next to him while he was prophesying to confirm that that his prophecies regarding Trump are true

Well when you when you watch the video back, you know to the the service where he claims that Christ appeared to him

Guess who does guess who is invisible on the video? Jesus okay

Yeah, not visible at all and yet everybody in his church Yeah Okay, and I think do you guys even read because Christ said

When they say to you Look, he's here or he's in the inner room. Don't believe him, right?

That's what he's so he's actually fulfilling a prophecy of Jesus while claiming that Jesus appeared to to give

Proof that his prophecies about Trump are true. It's like what is what is wrong with these people?

You know Why is there such a weird type of worship of Trump I Have no idea.

I Just it strong delusion. I couldn't get it, you know, you know

I've moved on, you know, it's like, you know, that was like Christian nationalism.

Yeah, as if somehow the United States is is the kingdom of God here on earth. No, it's not

You know the kingdom of God is not here where you can point to it. Oh, yeah, there's the country

I could flip a globe around put your finger down. You can't actually put your finger on the kingdom of God.

It's among us It's a doctrine of faith Alright, so what's really going on here people following stubbornly following their own evil hearts

And this is where we have to come back to the you know, the question, you know, who are we going to trust?

I'm not asking you to trust me at all. Don't don't give me the benefit of the doubt Questions, let's open up the scriptures together and see what the scriptures say and what

God meant. That's that's that's the point You know at the end of the day as a pastor I my job

I was passed a baton and basically told don't make it shorter Don't make it longer just pass it on so that the next guy who follows me that he would be able to To do his thing.

All right. Let's keep rolling here then So, all right so in those days the house of Judah shall join the house of Israel and together they shall come from the land of the north

Of the land that I give your fathers for heritage We pointed this out that Israel at this time that Jeremiah is prophesying long gone

But this is an eschatological promise and we we Gentiles have been grafted into Israel So this is talking about kind of the regathering at the end of the world

So I said how would I set you among my sons and give you a pleasant land of heritage most beautiful of all nations?

And I thought you would call me father and you would not turn from following me surely as treacherous as a treacherous wife

Leaves her husband. So have you been treacherous to me? Oh house of Israel declares

Yahweh so again adultery always comes up as the image of idolatry idolatry spiritually is the equivalent of Adultery physically if you get the idea

And you want to get an idea by the way husbands can be treacherous too. I've noticed that on social media.

There's a whole genre of Videos that put on tick -tock that are dedicated to catching cheating spouses

You know and it's it's horrifying, you know when something like that comes up, you know, there was

I remember a few weeks ago you know just flipping through tick -tock and there was a fellow who was an uber driver and he had his mask on and In pops his wife, you know, you know, he picked up his wife as a passenger and her

Boyfriend and they did she didn't recognize him and and At the end of the the three -part video.

I hate it when they say please subscribe for you know part two Anyway at the at the you know at the end of part three, you know, he gives the big reveal to his wife

Oh, yeah, you know, I'm your uber driver and oh man it something like that just breaks your heart, right?

Absolutely, just it's disgusting. But the thing is is that take your disgust then for such a horrible treacherous betrayal of your wedding vows or anyone's wedding vows and see that as the magnitude and more of treacherously

Abandoning what God has written what he has revealed what we are to believe teach to confess and instead following your own stubborn evil heart

You know and we can come up with all kinds of multiple ways in which this happened I wish people would make tick -tock videos talking about Adulterous idolatry, you know going on within the church today, you know that I don't think it would never catch on I don't think that would go viral, but you get the idea chapter 3 verse 21 then a voice on the

Bear Heights has heard Weeping and pleading of Israel's sons because they perverted their way

They have forgotten Yahweh their God return. Oh faithless sons. I Will heal your faithlessness

So you'll know in the midst of God calling out their sins What is he calling them to do to be forgiven?

God's not God is saying listen return. I will heal your faithlessness.

I will forgive you Behold we come to you for you are Yahweh our

God truly the hills are a delusion the orgies on the mountains Holy smokes what's going on there, right?

You know truly in Yahweh our God is the salvation of Israel Always false doctrine and sexual immorality just seem to run together like for real, you know

Cuz you know if you think about it What people really want is to be unbuckled from God's law and then live under the delusion that God's gonna somehow bless their sexual immorality, you know and that this happens in the church today with with basically, you know heterosexual kids living together

And then you know this the blessing of same -sex unions and things like this and this has been going on for a long long time

But you know rather than preaching the word or calling people to repent when they're engaged in sexual immorality

They want a God who will tell them. Oh, everything's gonna be alright. Just love the one you're with You know, God would never ask you to do anything other than follow your own heart

You know, you follow your own heart and to hell, you know Hearts the problem, you know

But how bad does it have to get we're in the name of God because they on these high hills that that's the the high hills

Are religious places. These are places where sacrifices are taking place. So what kind of religion?

results in after the sacrifice Let's all do that What kind of religion is that that's where we all end up Okay, but from our youth the shameful thing has devoured all for which our fathers labored their flocks their herds their sons their daughters

So let us lie down in our shame. Let our dishonor cover us We have sinned against Yahweh our

God and our fathers from our youth even to this day We have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh our God.

I think that's appropriate during a penitential season All right, let me check question here, let's see here

Gentiles spoken about in the New Testament No, they're not No So every

Gentile who believes in Jesus according to just read Romans like 9 and 11 you get the idea

Yeah, you put 10 into the mix there too, but 9 10 11, it's real simple You know, we

Gentiles who are to not genetically descendants of Abraham were grafted into Israel We're wild olive branches grafted into Israel in Christ is

Israel. So we're grafted into Christ. That's the idea So yeah, when somebody talks like that, they're they're they're they're not paying attention to very clear and specific passages

All right. So Lily says yeah, I actually tried to follow their logic, but it's bizarre

They even created coins to represent this in Israel what in the word Yeah, I know

Yeah, yeah When somebody says follow your own heart just quote Jeremiah 17 9 the heart is deceitfully wicked

You know things like this, you know Whenever somebody whenever I actually am reviewing somebody and they talk about, you know, just you know

Following your heart or something like that. I always describe my heart as being a very black place. It's full of spiders

You know, I don't I wouldn't I wouldn't want to I wouldn't ask for anybody to follow anything that's touching that So McDonald family since God seems to use the analogy of following false doctrine as adultery

Is he also calling people say who follow prosperity preachers faith less

So Heather asking sorry if it's unclear So so Heather the reality is this is that the the prosperity preachers are?

men who are prophesied by scripture as those who Are telling people what their itching ears want to hear

Jude describes them very clearly as those who forsaken themselves for the sake of gain and Balaam's error and Anybody who's following a prosperity preacher and this is where we have to recognize two very important facts number one it is absolutely clear that they are teaching false doctrine and the and they are

Breaking the second commandment and they are misusing the name of the Lord their God on Conversely as well then we know from 2nd

Timothy chapter 4 That those who are listening to them are listening to them because they are hearing what their sinful heart wants to hear and So the best way

I can put it is is that when I was in the latter rain movement? Although I had a false prophetess over me and she will have to give a reckoning to God For every false word that she spoke in the name of God One of the hardest things

I had to come to grips with was my own culpability in my deception And That's a tough one and and and so That one let's just say burned really hard remember back teen you guys remember that stuff

Okay, you ever put that on a on a scrape or a road rash or something like that and you felt the fire

Yeah, that that it hurt worse than that. But the reason so the reality is is that Everybody who is deceived on some level they are a participant in their own deception and That's a hard thing to come to grips with but one that must be dealt with properly

So the deceivers and the deceived are part of the same group You know, it's just and you know

If you read second, let me pull up second Timothy 4 on this and you'll kind of see this to Timothy 4

Paul says I charge in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who's to judge the living and the dead and by his appearing

And his kingdom we got this preach the word. No, you can't do that. You can't grow church

You can't be relevant preach the word. I know so be ready in season and out of season reprove rebuke and exhort with complete patience and teaching

For the time is coming and I would like to say is now here when people will not endure sound doctrine No, the big group people will not endure to sound doctrine, but having itching ears

They will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions So when when you kind of read it out if you were to do the chicken and egg scenario

Why is it there are so many false teachers and why do they make so much money?

because This is what people want to hear man Yeah, that's what they want.

Okay, so the idea here is is that we don't want to hear the sound words of God We want to follow our own evil hearts

So we're gonna get rid of faithful pastor over here and we're gonna replace him with heretic

Who's gonna tell us everything we ever wanted to hear and say in Jesus name?

The Lord wants to bless you You're gonna be the hand not the tail You're gonna be healthy wealthy and wise

Right, you know seriously where I am. I am this close to pulling the trigger on a weird

It just yeah, it's just wow. It's but yeah, but yeah, you get the idea here.

And so and then you'll note that When we play prophecy bingo, you know, oh the

Lord told me that this this is a season of breakthrough You're you know All this kind of stuff and people go.

Yeah Right because this is what they want to hear so the idea then is is that everybody who is deceived by these false teachers

They're willing participants in their own deception The reason why they're going there and listening to that Yehu who's teaching stuff that is so obviously contradicted by the

Word of God is Because they want to hear it And so on some level every single person who is under the under the guise of these people

This is what they want to hear. And so you sit there and go well, you know now that I'm out of it I don't want to hear it anymore

I know but you know, the the reality is is that we we want to hear this false doctrine our sinful nature loves that stuff so Yeah, that's right.

God is faithful when we are faithless Mm -hmm

Yeah That's right.

That's right. The reason I was listening to that false prophet is because I wanted to glow in the dark, too. I Did okay, it's not useful to glow in the dark, you know, it might help so they don't stub your toe at night

But you know, I wanted to glow in the dark just like they did I wanted to I wanted people to sit there go man

He's really holy man, you know, I did and so I for sure was culpable in my own deception

Jeremiah 4 1 If you return Oh Israel declares Yahweh To me you should return if you remove your detestable things from my presence do not waver

And if you swear as Yahweh lives in truth and justice and righteousness the nation shall bless themselves in him and in him shall they glory

For that says Yahweh to the men of Judah and Jerusalem break up your fallow ground and so not among thorns

Wait, that sounds just like a parable of Jesus's doesn't it? Yeah Fallow ground so not among thorns.

I want to point something out here When we make the proper distinction between God's law and the gospel, which is an important and vital distinction that needs to be made

Does the law give you any power to obey it? none

Law says do this and if you don't do it, what does the law do? Condemns you All right

If you do the thing you're not supposed to do you're condemned if you don't do the thing you're supposed to do the law condemns

You does it give you any energy power whatsoever to obey it? No none

What about the gospel this is where an important thing comes in and this is we note This that what the gospel demands the gospel always provides the gospel says

Believe this and you will live the law says do this and you will live right?

So the law says do this and you'll live and all you get is death from the law because you constantly disobey the law

The gospel says believe this and live but we're conceived and born dead and trespasses and sins that being the case then

How can we believe? Answer what the gospel demands the gospel provides and so you'll note here.

Here's a call For the purpose of being forgiven Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh remove the foreskin of your hearts.

That sounds like a dicey surgery. Okay. All right Open heart surgery and you want me to do what?

You want me to cut off what? Okay, the foreskin of my heart this time life have a home surgery series

You know, you guys remember the do -it -yourself books in the timeline and I'm dating myself now Okay somewhere in my library at home.

I have you know, I have A small section of you know, do -it -yourself fix -it kinds of things

What happens if you have a hole in your drywall what happens if you need to replace a wall socket? What and it walks you through step by step and I bought it off of an infomercial in the 90s still relevant though By the way, this you know,

I just don't know if it's completely up to code. But all that being said here we have

Circumcised yourselves to Yahweh remove the foreskin of your hearts. Yeah That doesn't sound like it makes any sense, how does one go about doing that in the

New Testament we have an answer it's found in Colossians 2 and Listen to these words

Because when you consider them in light of what we just read here in Jeremiah 4

Paul writes verse 8 see to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit

Listen that philosophy stuff To just forget it. It's not gonna bring you closer to Christ.

Yeah. No Nietzsche, you know the Socrates yeah You know

Eris turtle and things like that, you know Plato. All right. No, those guys aren't gonna bring you closer to Christ They're not all right

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit according to human traditions According to the elemental spirits of the world not according to Christ For in him in Christ the whole fullness of the deity dwells bodily

And you have been filled in him who is the head and rule of all authority watch this in him

Also, you were what? Circumcised you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands

By putting off the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ Having been buried with him in baptism in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God who raised him from the dead

Y 'all have been circumcised Where waters baptism

Yeah, and who did who did the circumcise Jesus did So you'll note then that here in Jeremiah Circumcise yourselves remove the foreskin of your hearts

How okay that I that's not that's seems like a very dangerous procedure.

Is it an outpatient thing? I don't worry about it. All we need is a little bit of water All right, a little bit of water in the

Word of God and Christ is the one then who circumcises our hearts and you'll note Then all the clear passages as it relates to baptism

Christ is doing the doing All right. Yeah, the pastor pours the water or he dunks and he says

I baptize you in the name of the Father Son of the Holy Spirit, but I assure you that when I went to seminary

I never once was given any surgical books on how to perform heart circumcisions

That never happened. All right, and you should be happy about this because you know, my hygiene is pretty bad.

I don't Yeah Heart circumcision will result in your death.

Okay, so thankfully Christ does that all for us the waters of baptism So our hearts are truly circumcised by the hand of Christ and so you'll note then

Circumcision then is a type of shadow pointing to what baptism? Okay coming back then

So declare in Judah proclaim in Jerusalem and say blow the trumpet through the land cry aloud and say

Assemble and let us go into the fortified cities raise a standard toward Zion flee for safety

Stay not for I bring disaster from the north and great destruction and you're gonna see this

Said in many different ways, but the idea then is is that the only people who are going to survive?

Nebuchadnezzar and the armies of Babylon coming and sacking Judah on several occasions
