Welcome to the teaching ministry of Kungsvinger Lutheran Church. Kungsvinger is a beacon for the gospel of Jesus Christ and is located on the plains of northwestern,
00:18
Minnesota. We proclaim Christ and him crucified for our sins and salvation by grace through faith alone.
00:25
And now here's a message from Pastor Chris Roseberg. The Holy Gospel according to St. John chapter 3 verses 1 through 17.
00:33
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him,
00:40
Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.
00:48
Jesus answered him, truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
00:56
Nicodemus said to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?
01:04
Jesus answered, truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
01:13
That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
01:18
Do not marvel that I said to you, you must be born again. The wind blows where it wishes and you hear it sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes.
01:28
So it is with everyone who was born of the Spirit. Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be?
01:35
Jesus answered him, are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly,
01:41
I say to you, we speak of what we know and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.
01:48
If I had told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you of heavenly things?
01:54
No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man, and as Moses lifted up the serpent of the wilderness, so must the
02:01
Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only
02:09
Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send his
02:15
Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
02:20
This is the gospel of the Lord. In the name of Jesus.
02:27
First commandment says you will have no other gods before me. No other gods.
02:34
It is a commandment against idolatry. And I must confess, as somebody who has studied church history and is also quite aware of current church history, the doctrine of the
02:45
Trinity is one that is constantly challenged. Human beings being human beings in sin, over and again have this wonderful, amazing, terrible ability to invent their own gods.
02:59
And they always seem to think that they know better than God in how he should be, what he should do, and what he's capable of doing.
03:09
And so if you say to yourself things like, well, the God I believe in would never, and then the thing that follows is actually taught in Scripture, you see, we got a problem here.
03:19
You now have a different God. You see, Scripture doesn't invite us to come and just kind of, you know, hometown buffet style, pick and choose those portions of the
03:31
Bible we would like to believe, and those we don't understand we can just, you know, do away with. You know,
03:37
I like the steak. I like the chicken. Of course, I love the chocolate pudding and the ice cream. But those veggies, ah, who wants those?
03:45
So that, we don't get to do that with Scripture. And see, here's the interesting thing. The doctrine of the
03:51
Trinity is a tough doctrine. And anybody who says they understand it, yeah, probably isn't exactly telling the truth.
04:02
And those who say, well, it doesn't make sense, therefore, it's got to be rejected. Yeah, no, no, no.
04:08
You see, this is where we recognize that our reason comes to a limit.
04:13
And at that point, our reason has to stop, and we must believe what God has revealed regarding himself.
04:19
Otherwise, we are in danger, and I mean this, danger of making a false God. And it's important to note that historically, the
04:28
Christian church has put its foot down and said, if you confess a different God than the
04:35
God who is revealed in Scripture, who is one God and three persons, you believe in a different God.
04:41
And it doesn't matter if you name your God Father, Son, Holy Spirit, or say words like Jesus and Father and stuff like that.
04:49
If the meanings of those words do not line up with what Scripture says and what God has revealed about his nature, you are a heretic.
04:56
You are outside of the Christian faith. The God you believe in is a different God, and that God cannot save you.
05:04
Now, I know that sounds harsh. Today, we are going to do something we haven't done for a couple of years.
05:09
But I brought it with me when I came here to Kongsvinger. Today is Trinity Sunday.
05:15
And if you read our constitution, Kongsvinger Lutheran Church believes in the three ecumenical creeds.
05:20
And do you all know what those are? You know, the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the
05:28
Athanasian Creed. That's right, Athanasian. And so today we will dust that old creed off, the
05:33
Athanasian Creed. And it's a little bit of a barn burner as far as its length is concerned. But important to note that it makes no bones about the fact if you do not confess this faith if you do not believe in this
05:47
God, you are not saved. Now, it uses that really thorny word that every one of us, we get a little hitch when we hear it.
05:54
It uses that word, are you ready? Catholic. Yeah, it uses the word Catholic. Yeah, but see, the thing is, is that Rome kind of has messed up that word, okay?
06:03
See, because Rome and Catholic, that doesn't make sense. Catholic is universal. And when you read the
06:10
Church Father, like Irenaeus, in his writings against the heretics, Irenaeus makes it very clear that what the word
06:16
Catholic means is that we confess the same faith that the Apostles taught, and that everybody, everywhere, is to believe, teach, and confess.
06:25
Whether you live in Gaul, or Oslo, Minnesota, or you live in China, or whether you live in Australia, or Barbados, it doesn't matter.
06:34
This is the same faith that we all confess. That's what that word means, and unfortunately, that's changed now.
06:41
And so whenever we hear the word, we go, right? So just don't do that when we confess the faith together.
06:47
But important to note, this is such an important doctrine that the Church historically has given us one
06:54
Sunday a year dedicated to this concept, to this important doctrine.
07:02
And I don't know if you were reading our texts today along with the idea of the doctrine of the
07:08
Trinity in mind, but I would like to walk back through some of the highlights of our text today.
07:15
Two of them are texts from Acts, and as well as our Gospel text, and I want you to consider this idea.
07:25
Peter clearly believed in the doctrine of the Trinity. Unmistakably believed in the doctrine of the
07:32
Trinity, because on the great day of Pentecost, his sermon is
07:37
Trinitarian, to the core. Jesus also, here's a shock, are you ready?
07:44
Jesus is a Trinitarian. I know that kind of seems silly, but it actually shows up in spades in our
07:51
Gospel text today. Very famous text. I always call it the Nicodemite passage, but the Nicodemite passage is extremely
07:58
Trinitarian, and we will consider these things as we look at this. So let's take a look back at Acts, Acts chapter 2.
08:04
We'll pick up with Peter's preaching in verse 22. And here's what Peter says, Men of Israel, hear these words.
08:11
Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst.
08:19
As you yourselves know, this Jesus delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, and here are the thorny words at this point, you crucified and killed him by the hands of lawless men.
08:32
Now, consider the absurdity of this for a moment, but then consider then what this implies for all of us.
08:41
Peter is not sitting there saying, you know what, I recognize you. You were there that day when
08:48
Jesus was put on trial, and Pilate was saying, who do you want me to release to, Barabbas? Or Jesus of, you know, the king of the
08:55
Jews? Well, give us Barabbas. What do I do with Jesus? Will you crucify him? He said, you were there, and you were there, and you were, but you weren't, and you're okay.
09:02
Notice indiscriminately, he says, y 'all crucified Jesus.
09:09
Y 'all, that's a plural you there, y 'all crucified
09:14
Jesus. And here's the thing, by indiscriminately blaming all of them, he is also indiscriminately placing the blame for the crucifixion on all of us.
09:27
You see, Christ was crucified for my sins. He was crucified for yours.
09:34
My sins and your sins put him on the cross. And so we, all of us, all y 'all are guilty of crucifying and killing him.
09:45
And that's kind of the point. You killed him by the hands of lawless men, and that's what sin really is.
09:51
It's unchecked lawlessness. Fascinating that Jesus, over and again, when he pictures the day of judgment, says to those who are on their way to hell that they were workers of lawlessness.
10:08
So, this Jesus whom you crucified, God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
10:15
And you're going to note here that this is one of these texts where you begin to see, wait a second, Jesus actually claimed to be
10:23
God, and yet Peter here is talking about God the Father and Jesus in separate terms.
10:30
And it's important to note that Jesus is unique among the Trinity because not every member of the
10:35
Trinity was incarnate, only the Son was. And still is, by the way.
10:41
And so the idea then is it's proper to then talk about Jesus, who is God in human flesh, as having a
10:48
God. Because this is by virtue of the fact of the incarnation. But this does not negate the fact that he is
10:55
God, which is kind of fascinating how the scriptures work out. Now the old Arian heretics, they would pick up on a text like this and say,
11:03
Peter thinks that Jesus is different than God, so Jesus can't be God, while ignoring all the other biblical texts that say that Jesus is
11:10
God, and all of the claims by Jesus where he actually claimed to be God. You can't do that.
11:15
See, that's that smorgasbord thing. You know, I like the dessert. I don't want the veggies. The veggies require us to look at all of scripture.
11:22
So now Peter continues. I did not abandon my soul to Hades, nor did you let your
11:38
Holy One see corruption. Nice prophecy from David regarding the resurrection of Jesus.
11:43
You have made known to me the paths of life, and you will make me full of gladness with your presence.
11:49
So brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David. He both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
11:59
And what Peter's words were back then are actually true for us, too. We know where David is buried. We know where his tomb is.
12:04
So being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on the throne, he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the
12:13
Messiah. Good way to talk about Jesus in that text. That he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.
12:21
This Jesus God raised up, and of that we are witnesses. Important to note, when Jesus in the gospel of John chapter 2, he goes and drives the money changers out of the temple.
12:32
Apparently that was like an annual thing for Jesus during the Passover. And so he drove the money changers out of the temple, and the
12:38
Jews were absolutely incensed, and they come straight at him, right? Straight at him, you know, by what authority are you doing these things?
12:45
And what did Jesus say? Tear down this temple, and I will rebuild it in three days.
12:52
Well, it's taken 46 years to build this temple, and you're going to build it again in three days? Who do you think you are, right?
12:58
But the temple he was speaking of was the temple of his body. Notice Jesus said, I will raise it up.
13:05
Here, the text says, God will raise it up. Something interesting is going on in these texts, and that's kind of the mystery of the
13:13
Trinity. See, Jesus is God, and the Father is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, and yet there are not three gods.
13:19
There's only one God, and here it says that God raised him up, yet Jesus said he raised himself up. Both are true.
13:25
That's the idea. Only both can be true using the doctrine of the Trinity. So God raised him up, and we are all witnesses, being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the
13:36
Father the promise of the Holy Spirit. Ah, now, notice here. What did Peter just say there? Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the
13:46
Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out on this, out this, that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.
13:55
So in Peter's great Pentecost sermon, the Son is preached, the
14:01
Spirit is preached, the Father is preached. How many gods did Peter believe in?
14:07
One. You see? Fascinating. What I find really kind of ironic, there's a whole group of people, they call themselves
14:16
Oneness Pentecostals. I don't know if you've ever heard of this, this group. If you've heard of T .D. Jakes, Bishop T .D.
14:22
Jakes, he's a bishop in an organization, a church group, that is
14:27
Oneness Pentecostal. They deny the doctrine of the Trinity. I don't know how you can say you're a
14:34
Pentecostal and deny the doctrine of the Trinity, because here, in Peter's great Pentecost sermon, he's preaching
14:40
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit quite explicitly. Back to the verse 33.
14:46
Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.
14:53
David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool.
15:01
So let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both
15:06
Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified. Now, that's kind of a weird place to end a text.
15:14
You're going to notice, you crucified him, the end. That's where our reading ended today. Can I finish it up a little bit, because it kind of leaves everybody hanging.
15:23
Remember last week, from our gospel text, we noted the words of Jesus, that when he would send the
15:30
Holy Spirit, the helper, the helper would testify about Jesus, he would glorify
15:37
Christ, and he would convict the world regarding sin, righteousness, and judgment.
15:43
Three things. So how do you know the Holy Spirit is working? Well, when people's sins are convicted, and they're convicted regarding sin, righteousness, and judgment, because they do not believe in him.
15:55
Righteousness, because God is going to judge the world. You see things like this, right? So watch then, we can see the
16:01
Holy Spirit doing these amazing works. So the next verse says this, now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart.
16:10
Have any of you ever experienced that? Where you've heard the word of God, and God's law preached in such a way you sit there and go, oh man,
16:20
I'm in trouble. What am I going to do? It's that total fear that you recognize that you're guilty.
16:29
And that's the working of the Holy Spirit, convicting you of your sin. And see, God doesn't want you to come to that point in despair.
16:36
He wants you to come to the next point. And so watch what Peter says. So they were cut to the heart, and they said to Peter, brothers, what shall we do?
16:44
Peter said to them, repent. Be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the
16:55
Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far off, everyone whom the
17:00
Lord our God calls to himself. And with many other words, he bore witness, and continued to exhort them, saying, save yourselves from this crooked generation.
17:09
So those who received this, his word, were baptized, and there were added that day about 3 ,000 souls.
17:17
There aren't that many people in this area, at least not this, you know, right? But did you imagine 3 ,000 people being baptized in one day?
17:24
We wouldn't have a place to put them all. But this is the work of the Holy Spirit, convicting people of their sins.
17:32
Hearing, then, the gospel of the free forgiveness of sins in Christ, they are baptized, they are washed clean, united with Christ in his death and his resurrection, and they are saved, and the church is off to a rip -roaring start.
17:46
Now, we will note, then, also, that Jesus himself, like I've said at the beginning of the sermon, is a
17:51
Trinitarian. And this comes out very clearly in our gospel text. Return with me now to the gospel of John, chapter 3.
17:59
And again, this is the Nicodemus at night passage. Nicodemus is a Pharisee. Pharisees, remember, are heretics.
18:06
And the Pharisees themselves rejected Christ because they had a second set of doctrines that came through what they called their oral tradition.
18:16
And so Nicodemus, and this is early in Jesus's ministry, you know, kind of divulges to us a little bit of information regarding, what were the
18:24
Pharisees thinking about Jesus at this time? And the fact that Nicodemus is showing up in the middle of the night is for one reason.
18:32
So that nobody can say, you went and talked to Jesus. He has to do this at night because this is clandestine.
18:39
This is stealth ninja stuff going on here. So, here's what it says. Now, there was a man of the
18:44
Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and he said to him, and listen to these words,
18:50
Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.
18:58
All right. So the Pharisees at this point are sitting there going, well, he's got to be from God. And you can tell some of them are going, no, come on.
19:06
He can't be from God. He's like breaking the Sabbath and stuff. All right. And so Nicodemus is like, there's a group of us who are going, yeah, you got to be from God because how could you do this stuff unless God were, you know, we're with you?
19:18
So this is how the debate is going. So now Jesus, watch what he says. We'll kind of clean up the grammar here a little bit because it's very fascinating.
19:26
Amen. Amen. I say to you, unless one is born, do you remember last time
19:32
I preached on this, what the word there is? Anothen. Anothen.
19:37
Now, it's best if we leave it untranslated here. And here's the reason why. This is a very unique word.
19:44
It has one of two possible meanings and the context is going to dictate which one is used.
19:50
You don't use both. You just pick one or the other. But here are the only possible definitions. One, again.
19:57
That's an option. The other, from above. Which one was
20:03
Jesus talking about? And see, that's kind of the thing. Nicodemus is now confronted with a word that could go one of two ways.
20:11
And he's going to pick one way. He's going to flip a coin and he's going to go one way. See what he does here.
20:16
So Jesus says, unless one is born anothen, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
20:23
So Nicodemus said, how can a man be born when he is old? Which definition did
20:29
Nicodemus go with? Again. Okay. I don't get this.
20:35
Okay, crawling back into my mom's womb. Yeah, that ain't happening. So how can a man be born when he is old?
20:40
Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born? Jesus answered. So Jesus is going to clean things up a little bit here.
20:48
Amen. Amen. I say to you, unless one is born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
20:58
Now, I am fully aware that there are a lot of people out there running around the Christian landscape saying that the water referring that Jesus is referring to here is amniotic fluid.
21:09
No, that's not what he's referring to. Let me show you a text that will clear this up for you. Turn with me to Titus chapter 3.
21:17
Titus chapter 3. And we're going to take a look at something that Paul writes and you can see then the connection.
21:24
We're going to start at verse 4. Titus chapter 3 verse 4. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our
21:34
Savior appeared, he saved us. Quick quiz.
21:40
See if you're paying attention. Who saved us? He did. Did you save yourself?
21:47
No. So watch what it says. He saved us not because of works done by us in righteousness.
21:58
Aha. So you're going to note this text says God saves you or you can say
22:03
Christ saves you not because you're a good boy or a good girl. Okay, it's important that you are a good boy or a good girl but not because you are saved by being such.
22:17
It's important to be a good boy or a good girl because having been saved you have been set free from the dominion of darkness.
22:25
But if you think that you're going to be saved because you're a good boy or a good girl, you don't get to go to the front of the class.
22:31
You get to go to the back of the class and that group goes to a different place. So he saved us not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy by the
22:46
Greek word here for by is dia. Another way you can translate this word is through.
22:52
It's either by or through. So this is the means. He did so saved us
22:59
By the washing of regeneration and renewal of the holy spirit And the greek word for washing can only mean one thing baptism
23:11
That's literally what's referring to and so listen to what it says Baptism is the washing of regeneration and the renewal of the holy spirit
23:20
In other words whose work is baptism. Is it yours? Is it the pastors
23:28
Nope, it's god's and it's god the holy spirit his work
23:35
And all the promises then of baptism come into play When you are baptized Paul says you are united with christ in his death in his resurrection
23:45
The book of acts says that your sins are washed away. Paul writes in colossians that your heart is circumcised
23:51
And so here paul says it's a washing of regeneration and renewal by the holy spirit Whom he poured out on us richly through jesus christ our savior.
24:00
So then coming back to our gospel text Jesus says amen.
24:05
Amen I say to you unless one is born of water in the spirit and now you see what it's referring to baptism
24:12
He cannot enter the kingdom of god That which is born of the flesh is flesh that which is born of the spirit is spirit
24:21
Well knowing that if being born of the spirit is the point that jesus is making was jesus saying being born again, or being born from above Answer from above that's this whole point
24:34
So do not marvel that I said to you you must be born anothen or born from above The wind blows where it wishes you hear it sound but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes
24:45
So it is with everyone who is born of the spirit Fascinating little fact here in both greek and hebrew the word for spirit in hebrew.
24:57
It's ruach In greek, it's pneuma Both of them mean spirit wind or breath
25:05
It's fascinating how the three kind of all have that same picture So when you see the wind blowing outside let that remind you
25:13
Of the work of the holy spirit remember when the holy spirit showed up in the day at pentecost They heard a sound like a rushing wind
25:20
The spirit is like that. So those who are born of the spirit It's like the wind you do not know where it comes from or where it goes
25:29
And at this point nicodemus is theology and his brain are just mush And he asks the question.
25:35
How can these things? be Does jesus say?
25:43
Oh, well, here's how it works. Let me explain it to you No, you see here's the idea
25:50
Idolatry wants to get behind all of this and figure out how it all works And then come up with a reasonable explanation believe me when
25:58
I tell you There is nobody on planet earth in the entire history of planet earth From adam and eve until the last person draws their bath who would invent a god like this
26:07
Okay, one god three persons. You got to be kidding me It hurts my brain to think about it
26:14
C .s lewis describes it this way trying to explain to human beings How the trinity works or how the nature of god works is like a human being trying to explain to oysters
26:24
What it's like to be a human Okay, I don't speak to oysters very often usually just to let them know how excited
26:31
I am about to eat them But by then they're already dead. But if you see me talking to oysters aside from that you can then get me help
26:39
But the point is this is that oysters just aren't going to get it You can sit there and say human beings They got two legs two arms and they they sleep at night wake up in the morning
26:47
And they like to do these things and the oysters is going to go. I don't know what any of that means God is so much different than we are
26:55
That it's important for us to recognize that the doctrine of trinity will always remain an article of faith
27:01
And it is of such a nature That I often wonder that when we finally see jesus face to face
27:10
If we'll still at that point Understand or not understand the doctrine of the trinity.
27:15
It's kind of that far of a stretch So you see here here nicodemus Just regarding the things of the spirit regarding being born from above and his mind is blowed.
27:25
How can these things be? Faith Trust the words of god believe what he has revealed
27:32
Understand that he knows better how to run the universe and his own church than you do
27:38
So trust him So jesus answered a little bit of a rebuke here. Are you the teacher of israel and yet you do not understand these things?
27:46
ouch Basically saying you're not really qualified. He's a pharisee. Remember that Amen. Amen.
27:53
I say to you we speak of what we know and bear witness to what we've seen but you do not receive our testimony
27:59
And the pharisees didn't receive the testimony of christ So if I have told you of earthly things and you do not believe
28:05
How can you believe if I tell you of heavenly things you see that's the thing his reason is in the way
28:12
Scripture doesn't tell you to take a blind leap by the way. That's not what faith is Faith though is trusting that god understands how these things work and even if we can't wrap our mind around it.
28:25
It's still true No one has ascended into heaven now, this is where it gets interesting except for the son who descended from heaven
28:31
The son of man now remember jesus has already talked about the holy spirit Now he's talking about the son and in a minute.
28:38
He's going to make a distinction between god and the son Jesus is a clear trinitarian
28:44
No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven the son of man and as moses lifted up the serpent in The wilderness so must the son of man be lifted up whoever believes in him may have eternal life
28:56
For god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son God here is referring to the is to none other than the father himself
29:06
And so you're going to note that the father loves you So he gives his son his only begotten son
29:15
So that you may have eternal life That whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life
29:22
For god the father did not send his son into the world to condemn the world
29:27
But in order that the world might be saved through him 17 verses and in 17 verses we see all three members of the trinity explicitly
29:39
Discussed and talked about in their saving work for us
29:44
The father sending the son the son being given lifted up Suspended between heaven and earth for our sins and the holy spirit working in the waters of baptism
29:57
To regenerate us to wash us make us clean and make us new Yeah, see jesus is a trinitarian
30:04
I would expect him to be because he is the second person of the holy trinity the one true god and now
30:12
Consider this then As nicodemus wrestled with his own idolatry and his own inability to understand the things that jesus was saying each and every one of us
30:24
Also has times and may even you may even be in a time like this Where we are wrestling with god's word and we don't understand how these things can be whether it's the doctrine of the trinity whether it's holy baptism whether it's the lord's supper the
30:40
Absolution or even the very nature of god's word being the inerrant infallible
30:46
True word of god that proclaims christ or maybe it's something clearly taught in the scriptures that you sit there and go
30:53
I just don't know about that The first commandment warns us
31:02
And jesus's firm push back on nicodemus also warns us do not
31:11
Make a god in your own image According to your own reason according to what you think is possible probable or likely
31:20
Where god has spoken we say amen Where god hasn't spoken? We remain silent
31:28
How can these things be? Jesus doesn't answer the question. I have no idea how there's one god in three persons.
31:35
I don't get it But I can tell you this it is most certainly true And to deny it
31:44
Is to make my own god a god that cannot save me because you see it's the one true god father son and holy spirit who all together
31:54
Have worked so that you and I can be saved God made the world the universe and everything that you can see smell taste touch and it was good
32:06
And we rebelled against god by listening to satan And we as a result of it fell and fell hard And now god in his mercy and his love and his pity for us has sought us
32:22
Sent jesus to bleed and die for us for all of our sins including and most importantly all of our idolatry
32:32
Where we have not loved the one true god have not believed him and his word And instead have erected in our hearts and minds false deities that we pray to That we look to and that we believe in that cannot save So again repent but be assured then each and every one of us who are guilty of this sin of idolatry
32:54
That the holy trinity so loved you That the father so loved you
33:00
That he literally gave his son His most precious son the cost of your salvation is too
33:11
High to measure in dollars or in the things of the earth or even of the heavens in the universe
33:18
I cannot imagine What the son of god? Is in his worth infinite in value
33:26
He so loved you that he gave his only son So that those who believe in him and i'm assuming all of you do
33:34
That you would not perish but have eternal life and god did not send his son to condemn you
33:40
But he sent him so that you might be saved through him
33:46
So believe and take comfort in these words And know that although you have grieved god terribly and sinned against him horribly
33:56
By not believing him and his word And you're guilty of idolatry
34:01
That all of that is covered by the shed blood of christ and you now clothed in his righteousness
34:07
Can stand confident on the day of judgment? That you will not be condemned, but that you are saved through him in the name of jesus amen
