Thank you, thank you, thank you to our live studio audience and thank you to all of you guys who are watching on them internets. Here's what's been going on.
00:51
You guys ready for it? Here's the news. A new report says that 52 % of the world's population still lacks access to the internet.
01:00
Hard to believe, right? Although it's not the hardware that isn't in place, it's just that 52 % are
01:06
Comcast customers. This story's amazing. Two mothers gave birth a day apart at the same
01:14
Burger King. It's insane, right? It's like lightning striking, same place. I guess at Burger King, you get more than a small fry when you order that.
01:25
Hashtag dad joke. The Queen of England has a secret speech, it turns out, in case
01:31
World War III ever actually happens, which is actually a coincidence. Kim Jong -un has a secret speech for when he causes
01:39
World War III to happen. Speaking of the UN, the UN is meeting in New York City this week, where Donald Trump said this morning, if threatened, the
01:53
US will totally destroy North Korea. That's smart. Have the leaders of 120 countries meet in the one city that North Korea says they can bomb in less than 30 minutes.
02:04
Good job, guys. Equifax had several security breaches, partly due to the fact that their username and passwords were both the word admin.
02:17
Can't make this stuff up, guys. Also, it's the same way to log into Equifax's Netflix account.
02:23
So for all you guys who want to give that a try, New York City law enforcement just confiscated a staggering amount of fentanyl.
02:34
Serious stuff. Or as Aerosmith put it, old memories. More brides are replacing their wedding bouquets with puppies.
02:46
It's all cute and cuddly until the single ladies can't catch the puppy. More than half of Californians say they are thinking about moving.
02:57
So basically, just all the actors who had big flops this summer. Like that, okay?
03:04
I'm looking at you, Jennifer Lawrence. Mother.
03:11
And finally, students at San Diego State University can earn extra credit if they fill out a questionnaire to determine their level of white privilege.
03:22
It's a real thing, guys. One of the things on the questionnaire is, do you have your
03:27
Starbucks drink memorized? Another is, how big is the jar of mayonnaise in your fridge?
03:35
And lastly, did someone actually ask you to fill out a white privilege checklist? We'll be right back, guys.
03:42
Don't forget to like and share. We have albino smoothies.
03:49
Stay with us. We'll be right back. All sorts of amazing, great stuff.
04:04
And you're going to want to log on. Like I said, it's only $9 .99 a month. It's the same price as a cup of coffee.
04:11
Wait, is that? Am I reading that right? A cup of coffee? There's no way that script is right. Who buys coffee for $9 .99?
04:18
Who's buying a $10 cup of coffee? This cup of coffee I stole from a man. There's a way that you can get around life without $10 for a cup of coffee.
04:28
That doesn't make any... If you are spending $10 for your cup of coffee, you are spending the wrong amount of money in your life.
04:36
Your whole life is disarray. You need to rethink your entire life. Trust me. Take that $10.
04:42
Like, how much foam did you get on that cup of coffee? Take that $10. Go use it just once for this month and get
04:49
Apologia All Access. Then learn to buy a $5 cup of coffee.
04:55
I think we're growing here. Apologia All Access. Right now. Sign up.
05:02
Buy coffee a little better. That time of the week, y 'all.
05:14
Right here on Next Week with Jeff Durbin. It's time for our blend of the week. Are you ready? Today's blend of the week is called the 1 % drip.
05:27
It's actually a fantastic drip. The top 1 % is rich and bold.
05:33
The bottom half is poor, bitter, and expects the 1 % to pay for the whole cup. Let's do this!
05:44
All right, everybody. Are you ready? Let's talk.
05:50
Tonight, we're going to talk about the entertainment paradox. In other words, why is secular media so influential and why is
05:58
Christian entertainment as bad as fondue on a hot day? It's the kind of cheesy you don't actually want.
06:06
You may be surprised to know that Christians actually had an influence in the beginning of film. That's right.
06:11
They were part of movies before LGBT could take the phrase, I'm gay, which of course was heavily used in the
06:18
Flintstones. When you're with the Flintstones, have a yabba -dabba -dee time, a dabba -doo time, have a gay old time.
06:28
Love that. Darn you, LGBT. No kid can sing this song now without parents having an important sit -down conversation.
06:37
Which is actually why we're going to take that phrase back. If you guys agree that we need to take it back, use the hashtag,
06:43
I'm really gay. Then use the hashtag, not that kind of gay, a different kind of gay.
06:52
Then just to clarify, use the hashtag, just so we're clear, the gay I'm referring to is happy, not the gay you were thinking of.
07:03
In the creation of film, Christianity was portrayed in movies as early as 1897, which means yes, there were
07:10
Christian films that Kevin Sorbo and Kirk Cameron weren't actually in. Christianity has been so influential that according to IMDB, Jesus has been depicted in movies and TV shows a total of 368 times.
07:28
Sorry, Presbyterians. That's a theological nerd joke only some of you understand.
07:36
The only three characters that have shown up more is Napoleon, Santa Claus, and the Devil, who has shown up 961 times, unless you're a conspiracy theorist and believe that the
07:47
Antichrist is either Oprah, Donald Trump, or CNN, in which case the Devil has been portrayed every day since the 90s.
07:56
Before movies were rated by the Motion Picture Association of America, movies used to be rated based on their morals.
08:03
The land of Hollywood itself was actually a Christian retreat town. Yeah. And the
08:09
I Love Lucy episode about her having a baby had to be blessed by a priest. Then, slowly but surely,
08:17
Christians started to leave the movie industry. We did the same thing as the horror movies we hate, we ghosted them.
08:25
All because we thought certain content was questionable. And instead of remaining an influence in Hollywood, churches would ban a member of the congregation for going to a movie theater.
08:36
I mean, just imagine it, getting yelled at for watching The Wizard of Oz. Now you get yelled at for not watching
08:43
The Wizard of Oz. Like, you haven't seen that movie? What's wrong with you? Christians voluntarily withdrew from Hollywood.
08:50
And now we've found ourselves, just like Kirk Cameron, left behind. Secular Hollywood makes decent productions, but the message, it's all wrong.
09:02
They got the worldview all wrong. Disney teaches us to follow our own heart. When the
09:08
Bible says the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it? Oceans 11, 12, and 13 actually have an entertaining storyline.
09:18
But it glorifies stealing. The heroes of the story are the thieves. Game of Thrones is done well production -wise, but let's face it, they're only one pizza delivery guy away from being porn.
09:33
Thousands of other shows and movies win awards with a point of view that teaches us to follow our own standard.
09:40
And because the secular worldview has no real standards, there's no objective standards, it's all personal preference, they have no measure of good art.
09:48
Which is why when the church leaves the arts, it stops being an influence, it stops standing on the word of God in this area, something like this happens.
10:03
That was a woman dropping paint from her lady bits onto a canvas, and it's art.
10:11
And so just to be clear, women don't want a baby exiting their lady parts, but Sherman Williams is fair game.
10:20
Secular, hashtag end abortion now, by the way. Secular media is a perverted version of good art.
10:28
And that's not what art is supposed to be. I mean, just look at Genesis. Open your Bible, look at Genesis. God is the creator, and after he made all things, he said that it was good.
10:38
Then he gave us the gift to create, which we read about in Exodus 35 and Proverbs 22.
10:44
And so we ought to be the ones making something that we can say, that's good, because that's what our
10:49
God is like. And not saying, that's facing the giants.
10:57
Instead of creating good entertainment, Christians have created our own version of Hollywood, we've made our own little genre, because nothing says
11:05
Christianity like avoiding the people who actually need Jesus. A Christian Hollywood might sound good, but it really just means that they blatantly copied secular storylines.
11:18
For instance, and this is good, watch part of this movie trailer from the secular movie, The Family Man.
11:24
Kate Reynolds, she was my girlfriend in college. I almost married her. But instead you left her.
11:30
I took the road less traveled. And fate. What? Him? Me. Gave him a glimpse.
11:36
What do you need, Jack? I got everything I need. Yeah? You just remember that you brought this on yourself. At what his life could have been.
11:46
Kate? Come on, Dad, get up. Where's my
11:53
Ferrari? You got a Ferrari? Now, that movie came out in the year 2000.
11:59
Now, check out the trailer to What If, that it came out in 2010. Wendy.
12:05
Who's she? Old girlfriend, we almost got married. You still talk to her? I make a point of never going back.
12:11
Had other plans. What's going on? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You're kidding me, it's a brand new car.
12:17
Who are you? I'm an angel sent here to help you straighten out your life. Okay. Close your eyes, count backwards from 100.
12:24
Uh, no. Fine, all right, well, have it your way. Mommy, Daddy's crawling on the floor.
12:32
Dad, no, I'm not anybody's dad. I mean, they're so similar that both the
12:39
Christian version and the secular version had bad actors. I mean, why are we stealing?
12:46
I mean, we don't need to be the Christian Amy Schumer's. It wasn't just that movie.
12:54
I mean, other rip -offs include Old Fashioned, which was the Christian answer to Fifty Shades of Grey.
13:00
And sure, look, it was different in a variety of ways, but both movies were painful.
13:08
Apparently, that was a grenade joke, took just, took a second, okay. Apparently, High School Musical needed a
13:15
Christian version, so Sunday School Musical was created. Gotta getcha, getcha, getcha head in the game of making good art.
13:24
And they didn't steal any High School Musical melodies, although we wish they had.
13:30
It would have been better than whatever this is. Okay, but who was the boss of you?
14:00
Because they should have told you that doing one spin in place is not actually dancing. That's the move you do when you're looking for your keys, right?
14:12
Oh, there they are. Now, also, if you're gonna have a Christian version of HSM, maybe don't have a kid pole dancing in it.
14:20
And look at the pole. Look at the pole the kid was dancing on. What, you can't paint the rest of that pole?
14:28
It doesn't look ready for a lunch meeting, much less than a song and a dance. Just because I couldn't let it look like that,
14:36
I decided to Photoshop it and put some paint on it, right? See, there you go. I just added value to the movie by doing the one thing that they didn't do.
14:45
A little bit of work. Copying Hollywood doesn't end there.
14:50
We do it in music all the time. Prepare your hearts for this, guys. Roll with it.
15:03
I ain't afraid to show it, show it, show it, show it. I'm blessed and I know it.
15:09
I like big bubbles and I cannot lie. Alright, stop. Open your Bible and listen.
15:15
Pastor Frank is about to start preaching. The Holy Spirit grabs ahold of me tightly, pouring blessings over me daily and nightly.
15:21
We never go on dates. You get home from work too late. You know, that's what my wife say.
15:30
That's what my wife say. And we keep whining. Spiritual milk to the left.
15:38
Take a step of faith. Pray once this time. On the devil let's stomp.
15:44
On temptation let's stomp. Bible slide real smooth. Thine ears are bleeding.
15:56
So, let's see. You took their melody, their rhymes, and their music. The only thing you didn't take was their talent.
16:03
Because, I guess, that's what we think the sinful part of the song is, right? Now, 1 Corinthians chapter 10 verse 31 says,
16:10
Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God. So, of course, we can get better, we can grow, but glorifying
16:16
God by working hard in your skills and your talents. Look, to put it plainly,
16:21
God doesn't want your crappy art, TBN. In fact, TBN is so out of touch with our culture that its shows don't even get higher than a few thousand views on their
16:30
YouTube channel. Shows like this one. Okay, stand by. We're rolling. Look at the camera.
16:36
Smile. What's in this stuff? Brother, that's your line right there.
16:43
Can somebody wake Joel up? Stay tuned. The Mornings on TBN.
16:50
Joel, the idea of waking up to hope. Why is that a good idea?
16:56
Why is it important to wake up to hope? Wow, we've got a real journalist on our hands here, guys.
17:03
He's asking the tough questions. And the show is literally called Waking Up to Hope. That would be the equivalent of somebody asking
17:11
Fox News, why should foxes learn about the news? Now, I know what you're thinking.
17:17
What about this show? Right? Aren't you guys copying? No, we're using a genre.
17:22
There's nothing wrong with taking a genre or a format of a show, like a news show, a morning show, or a late night show, it's the content that's the issue.
17:31
So, for instance, as an example, if other Christian late night shows existed, they wouldn't talk about politics.
17:37
They'd stay away from that. They would just copy all of the games from the late night shows. Instead of Jimmy Fallon's thank you notes, it would be thank you
17:45
Jesus notes. Like so.
17:54
Cue the music. Thank you
17:59
Jesus for squeaky elevators. The one thing keeping even the atheists in prayer.
18:09
And instead of carpool karaoke, they would play something like carpool praise. This is where the host and their guests would be worshipping in the spirit to Jesus take the wheel.
18:21
How do I know they would do these things? Because it took me less than a minute to think it up. We also, we also thought of our own version of that morning talk show.
18:34
And now, look guys, for this one, we got super Christianese and we are very proud of it. Trust me.
18:40
And we didn't copy a secular morning show. We copied the Christian one. That's right. Waking Up to Hope.
18:46
Take a look. Welcome back.
19:03
I'm Joy. And you're watching Waking Up with Happiness. So at the end of the last break, you were telling us about your new book.
19:15
Yes, I was. Thank you so much for asking. Which is titled? The book that is titled Breathe with Happiness.
19:24
Every single breathing way you can do it, you can actually base it off of 66 different things.
19:33
Well, basically titles of books in the Bible, you know? So you can breathe the
19:38
Genesis breath, which is the first breath you take. You know what I'm saying? Can you do that? Yeah, absolutely.
19:44
So you're just kind of dead. And then you just, then that's a great way you can breathe the
19:51
Genesis breath. Well, that's all we have time for today. And until next time, remember to live your dream, show compassion, create your own happiness, follow your heart, enjoy the little things, laugh out loud, be your best self, cherish every moment, dream big, embrace every possibility, discover your passion, believe in miracles, create peace, make a wish, be spontaneous.
20:15
Remember to breathe. Fall in love. Today is the day.
20:23
That was beautiful. Now, the sad thing is that that took us less than one hour to film.
20:31
And as of the airing of this show right now, it already has more views than TBN's Waking Up to Hope. Thanks for your shares, everybody.
20:40
Now look, here's the thing. God dwells among beauty. We're called to restore the earth and to restore beauty.
20:49
So listen closely, filmmakers. God doesn't dwell in bad movies. A poorly done
20:55
Christian film is as bad as a well -done secular film with a crappy worldview. So stop trying to bring me to one -night -only events, guys.
21:03
I can only distract myself with so much popcorn. All right? It gets old. Now look, we're not making fun of Christian art at all.
21:11
We're making fun of lazy Christian art and the new -formed
21:16
Christian genre. Because just like all current Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, they're not good.
21:24
Good art that is pleasing to God is whatever is good, whatever is holy, and whatever is true.
21:31
Go and tell whatever story you guys want to tell. If God is dwelling within you, then the story will be true and holy.
21:38
And then work hard to make it good. You want to shape the art to the idea that you have until it's fully formed and beautiful.
21:44
I mean, you can shape art to tell whatever story you want. And to demonstrate this, we took a terrible
21:51
Christian romantic comedy, a film. I think it's a comedy. Who knows, okay? Now watch the original trailer to The Princess Cut.
22:03
Dad, do you think that there's just one perfect person out there that we're supposed to find and marry? How much is that one?
22:10
It's a brilliant choice. Would you like to see it? Maybe he's going to pop the question. You have to tell me all the juicy details.
22:16
I thought we had a date. Them? They're just college buds. They won't be in town long. Why does this keep happening to me?
22:23
First Bryce, then Stuart. Sounds like the Lord kept you from a big disaster. I'm beginning to think he doesn't even want me to get married.
22:32
If you're ever going to have a hot guy, you need to get a new wardrobe. Any past relationships? I feel like my heart's been passed around like a football.
22:39
Fathers give their daughters in marriage. So what are you saying? Who am I going to give our daughter to? Most young men today have no clue what it means to be a man.
22:47
I'm looking for a friend of mine. Do you know him? What are you doing here? Were you expecting someone else?
22:53
I've stood behind that counter and watched people fall in love over coffee. It can happen anywhere, anytime.
23:01
If you're looking for Drew, he might be down by the barn. Thanks. I think you're amazing.
23:09
This young lady is looking for Clint. Hello stranger. I'm really sorry. I didn't want
23:14
Grace to get a surprise like this. Just go away and leave me alone. Who you marry is a decision you're going to have to make yourself.
23:22
But I'm here to help you. To guide you. If you'll trust me.
23:37
That was the trailer to Princess Cut My Eyes Out. Which, by the way, has an 80 % audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
23:48
But it has a 0 % critic rating. Why? Because no movie critics actually watch the movie.
23:55
And that's how biased we are in the Christian movie industry. We lie and say that it's good because we think that's the best thing we can do.
24:01
It's almost like tithing. It's like a donation. I mean, I only found five audience reviews on this movie.
24:08
Four were raving about how it was clean and the message of God was in it. Nothing about the storyline, the acting, the quality of art, the cinematography.
24:17
None of that stuff. And then we found one honest review from a hero named Josh B. Who gave it half a star and said,
24:25
Nope. Nope. Don't do it. No. Not even worth your time. It's so bad.
24:33
Which is the same thing my stomach says to me when I try to eat Indian food. If you think we're just making fun of the movie, look, please get an account on Pure Flix and watch this movie tonight.
24:46
Then punch yourself in the face and tell me which one you liked more. As I said, it's easy to shape art to look any way you want, right?
24:57
You can form it and shape it. You can add story. I mean, you tell a worldview. You're preaching in art.
25:04
So to demonstrate it, we shaped Princess Cut. Oh, boy, are we proud of this? We shaped
25:11
Princess Cut to tell a totally different story. Watch and see. One thing
25:17
I really love about Jared, he says the sweetest things. Makes me feel wanted.
25:36
I don't feel right about our relationship. Yes, I was wondering,
25:45
I'm looking for a friend to find. Clint Masterson. Do you know him? I was hoping that you might recommend a place to stay.
25:53
You can stay with us. Things have changed. I've changed.
26:06
How did you find me? I'm not leaving until I get what I came for. Hello? Are you still...
26:38
Not all Christian entertainment and art is bad. That's not what we're saying. So give great reviews to the good art.
26:45
And stop watching bad art. Stop funding it. The bottom line is this. Christians are supposed to be changing the conversation, not following it.
26:54
We're called to be in the world and not of it. Yet, somehow, we've managed to be of the world and not actually in it.
27:04
Thank you guys for watching. Right here on Next Week with Jeff Durbin. We'll be right back with Les Lanphier, our special guest.
27:11
Talking about the Calvinist movie, Like and Share. We'll see you in a minute. This next guest, we are very excited about.
27:53
He is our friend, Les Lanphier. He created the Reform Pub. Very popular, lively, active group on Facebook.
28:00
He also co -created the Reform Pubcast. And he is the creator of the new movie,
28:07
Calvinist, which drops October 2nd. Please welcome our good friend, Les Lanphier, everybody. Welcome.
28:25
Look at you. Just looking good today. Yeah, I got to represent. I'm a Presbyterian. This is how we roll.
28:30
That's right. Marcus is happy just for that one fact. He finally has another Presbyterian in the studio. So we're finally here, man.
28:37
It's been a long time coming. Yeah, I just finished the movie right before a hurricane came barreling towards South Florida.
28:45
So as I'm trying to upload this movie and get it all printed and stuff, I'm also putting shutters up on my house. And then we lost power.
28:52
So I literally have been in emergency mode until I got on the plane to come here. And so this is like the first time
28:58
I can actually say, I'm done. This movie is made. So it was all predestined to work out that way.
29:06
So it's fine. It was. So here's here's the box. It looks beautiful, belongs all over the world.
29:12
I'm excited about it. I've actually seen at least a raw cut of the film, and I think it's wonderful.
29:17
So tell everybody like we want to hear like you created something. Really, it is beautiful.
29:23
It's well done. It's your first film. Yeah. Yeah. Which is shocking.
29:28
Yeah. Marcus always gives the advice. Never call yourself a filmmaker until you've actually made, finished a film.
29:35
So, yeah, finally, finally there. So you're officially a filmmaker. Officially a filmmaker. It's beautifully done.
29:41
So let's bring everyone into it. You had, of course, the Reform Pub online. It's a very popular group.
29:47
A lot of people in it. It's having a lot of influence and doing a lot of really good things, actually. And you have, of course, you actually do have a podcast.
29:54
I do. Yeah. It's on break at the moment. Right. So and then that led you into creating a film, a movie called
30:01
Calvinist. Yeah. So why? Well, necessity is the mother of invention.
30:06
I was unemployed. That's the main reason. So I've worked in the film industry and in various regards over the years.
30:17
So I didn't have a job. And I figured I kind of know how to make a movie, sort of.
30:24
And I love Calvinism a lot. So I reached out to the spheres of influence that I kind of have.
30:32
And I was able to get people, convince people to give me money and to make a movie.
30:38
Well, let's talk about that because I think what's important to us is you have so many opportunities as Christians to influence the culture, to teach something powerful, to do something meaningful.
30:48
And a lot of times we're afraid to take that leap, that risk, right, and just really step out and trust to say,
30:53
I can actually do this. So talk about that. I think what was fascinating to me is how you just had an idea in your head.
31:00
And you put it out there and you gave it to other people and you said, this is my idea. This is what I want to do.
31:05
I'm going to create something beautiful and meaningful. Who's behind me? So tell everyone what happened. You did a Kickstarter, right?
31:11
Yeah. Actually, when I look back, I think one of the key moments was actually ReformCon last year.
31:18
You guys invited me and my co -host Tanner out here. We did a conference on reform theology.
31:24
And there were these breakaway groups. And Marcus led one of them. And he talked about Christian media.
31:31
Surprise, surprise that Marcus would talk about Christian media. And just talking about, like, he talked about the legacy, basically, of the art that Christians have made over the centuries.
31:42
And he was just encouraging people, if this is something you feel led in, just do something.
31:49
So I think that was sort of in the back of my mind when I got the idea. And I put together a really rough trailer, just grabbed clips from the
31:57
Internet. And I remember you guys shared it. That was huge. And it was really just a spark of a thought.
32:04
And people were so excited about the idea of a movie about this generation rediscovering
32:12
Calvinism. I guess it just really resonated with a generation of people.
32:17
So you were able to raise money to put this together. Yeah. And you created, really, you have to see it because it really is truly well done.
32:24
Thank you. So we have friends and we have fans and supporters of our ministry that aren't necessarily
32:30
Reformed or Calvinistic. So why do you think that the theology of the
32:36
Reformation, Calvinism, is so important, it's important enough to make a film about? Well, I think that the church,
32:45
I mean, it's hard to pinpoint exactly where we got to where we are now in evangelicalism.
32:52
But the culture has so inundated the way that we think that we would never say it, but we think that we're basically in control of our own salvation.
33:05
That it's up to us to get saved. It's essentially up to us to stay saved. And it's just not what the
33:12
Bible teaches at all. The Bible actually says that you're unable to do all the things that we think that we're doing.
33:20
And if we are doing those things, then they're by the grace of God. And that means that God should be honored in being the one who saved us and being the one.
33:28
So the most important reason that Calvinism, or the biggest reason Calvinism is important is because we must be glorifying
33:36
God to the greatest extent that God deserves glory. So that's why it matters.
33:43
So when you think about how you want this movie, Calvinist, to shape minds and hearts, what's the main thing you're aiming for?
33:51
The foundation you want to take place after this thing hits the world and it's in people's homes and on their computers and they're watching it.
33:59
What do you want the after effect to be? Yeah, there's a few. I feel like the movie, it plays a few different roles.
34:06
So for me and my generation, this is the movie I just want to watch.
34:13
Mainly because I'm trying to go back maybe a decade and help us to revisit those first few moments of realizing that God actually loved me from the foundation of the world.
34:31
He chose me. He refused to let me reject him.
34:38
And when we first discovered those things, they were so beautiful, so glorious. And I think over the years, which is just human nature, we grow sort of callous to those things.
34:49
And then we move on to the next thing and we kind of forget those foundational things. And I feel like we don't rejoice in grace as much as maybe we should.
34:57
So that's one thing I want to do. I want to remind us why this matters, why it was so beautiful. It was just a phenomenal time in all of our lives.
35:07
And then the movie also explains Calvinism. So you'll be able to sit down with your family and friends who think that you've joined a cult.
35:15
And show them that no, actually this is reasonable. This is biblical. Historic. It's historic.
35:21
If you call yourself a Protestant Christian, if you're not a Roman Catholic or an Eastern Orthodox Christian, then actually this is the theology you're supposed to be holding to.
35:33
So showing all of that, I think it's just going to be good. It's going to be good for people who are curious about Calvinism to learn a little bit more about it.
35:43
It's going to be good for people who hate Calvinism to at least get a fair assessment. And then for us to rejoice it and embrace it, it'll just be a celebration.
35:53
Excellent. Did you see my shirt? Yes. Do you like it? Yeah. Gangster John Calvin. Yeah. I've got it just for this show today. I'll tell you where to get it after the show today.
36:00
So you have a clip for us. Is this a special clip no one's ever seen before? This is a special clip no one's ever seen before.
36:06
Right here on Next Week. This is from, so the movie goes through the five points of Calvinism, explaining each point.
36:14
This is a clip from Irresistible Grace. Okay. Roll the clip,
36:20
Marcus. The doctrine of regeneration is possibly the most beautiful, the most precious, most powerful doctrine in the
36:29
Bible. I can't even see the kingdom of God, Jesus told Nicodemus. I have to be born again.
36:36
And that's what regeneration is. It's being born again. Regeneration comes before faith.
36:44
Meaning we were completely without life and we had no ability to believe unless God first would grant to us new life.
36:56
God said, I will take out your heart of stone and I will put in its place a heart of flesh. He changes that God -hating, sin -loving heart into a heart with new and righteous affections.
37:12
By his spirit, without the sinner's permission, he opens our eyes, he removes our blindness, he raises us from spiritual death to spiritual life.
37:23
He causes us to be born again from above so that we're now alive when we were once dead.
37:31
And when that person whose heart has been changed, when their eyes are opened up to Jesus through the preaching of the gospel and the work of the
37:38
Holy Spirit, they run to him. Because he becomes at that moment the end of all their affections.
37:46
He's their desire. Beautifully done. Alright. So, the movie drops
37:56
October 2nd, people can get it where? Calvinistmovie .com. There's also going to be, there's some links to Vimeo, you're going to be able to stream it and download it there as well.
38:06
So my next question is, I think you did a wonderful job with this, I love it. I think it's important. My question is, are you going to do another one?
38:15
I don't, my wife does not want me to make another movie right now. Apparently this is a very, it takes a lot of work.
38:23
So right now I'm actually working, I'm a video editor at a studio that's making content helping the church deal with the epidemic of pornography in the church.
38:35
So that's something I'm really excited about working on at the moment. But yeah, I mean, if people like the movie, that's going to be the biggest question.
38:42
If people receive it well, then of course I'd be open to making more films. Excellent. Let's land for everybody.
38:48
Make sure you check it out, Calvinistmovie .com. We'll be right back with some final thoughts on the show.
38:54
Thank you for seeing with us guys. Thank you. Thank you. From the time a child in the
39:01
United States enters kindergarten, he begins to be taught and to learn, if only through osmosis, a particular understanding of the nature of man.
39:14
This concept of free will. That man is free to choose the good or evil on either side.
39:24
That's a blasphemous doctrine. The Bible tells us that something happened radically to the constituent nature of humanity in the fall.
39:42
A Reformed resurgence has always been the young, restless Reformed. And it was all
39:48
I could do not to scream out, Jesus wants the rose! Do they call you pastor here or dude? And that's the way it was in the
39:55
Reformation. The thing that makes
40:05
Calvinism, Calvinism is the view of Scripture that emerged out of the
40:12
Reformation. Why does he still find fault? For who resists his will?
40:18
And the answer from Paul is, who are you, oh man, who answers back to God? If you believe that God's love for you was set upon you, not for anything in you or that you've done.
40:35
It sets you free to serve him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. There's nothing you can earn.
40:44
It's a weight off for people. I can't even see the kingdom of God, Jesus told
40:59
Nicodemus. I have to be born again. Thank you guys for watching the show tonight.
41:24
Thank you everybody. Now, as you know, I'm sure, the Emmys were Sunday. Emmys were
41:30
Sunday, that's right. There were some great categories like best comedy show, those sorts of things. But I really feel like there was actually some categories that were missing.
41:39
And it's not just at the Emmys, every award show I think is missing categories. So, tonight I'd like to introduce you to the very first annual
41:46
Derby Awards. Welcome to the Derbys. Giving awards out that nobody else gives out.
41:54
So, the following awards have been carefully reviewed and chosen by a board of nobody except me.
42:01
Without further ado. This first award is for best salesman of a flawed product.
42:10
And the award goes to Bernie Sanders for his work in socialism. Thank you, thank you everybody.
42:20
Thank you. I promise it's all free, I swear. Okay, this is the
42:26
Derby Award. It's a banana. And the best remake of the decade goes to Freaky Friday.
42:37
And the worst remake of the decade goes to Bruce Jenner. Bruce Jenner.
42:45
Who remade his body to look like a woman and also makes every Friday freaky.
42:53
And Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Milk Duds.
43:02
Milk Duds for still existing even though I've never seen anyone actually eat one outside of Halloween. They're a dud.
43:10
Hashtag dad joke. And... Oh, that's not the right one.
43:15
And the award for the most stupid song stuck in my head right now is
43:22
You're Not the Boss by Sunday School Musical. Yay.
43:29
You actually won something. And finally, the award for hating you until YouTube changed our minds goes to All Cats.
43:41
Cats. You found your way into our hearts, little devils.
43:48
That's the show, guys. Thank you very, very much. I want to remind you to head on over to EndAbortionNow .com.
43:59
The movement is growing on a regular basis, so praise God for that. Over 240 churches across the
44:06
United States right now gathered together under the banner of End Abortion Now. Working together as churches to bring the gospel to the abortion mills.
44:14
Literally saving lives. Right before we started this segment, I had someone walk up to me and tell me about another save in Flint, Michigan.
44:21
These are lives being saved on a regular basis. Making the gospel the center and speaking together as a church of Jesus Christ across the nation to our legislature.
44:32
Demanding an immediate end to abortion. That's what we're doing. You can do it with us at EndAbortionNow .com.
