La gente a veces, especialmente en las redes sociales, tiene reacciones negativas, en las que responden a cosas sin darse el tiempo para entender lo que alguien más puede significar por algo, o para pensar que algo puede tener múltiples significados.

Incluso la palabra salvación, muchas personas no lo piensan, pero hay tres sentimientos de la palabra salvación.

La palabra salvación es un término general. Se refiere a eso, para aquellos de nosotros que somos creyentes hoy en día, se refiere a la salvación pasado, se refiere a ese punto en el tiempo en el que éramos una enemiga de

Dios y fuimos regenerados o justificados, y ahora se convirtieron en un hijo de Dios. Así que esa es una perspectiva de la tensión pasado.

En la tensión presente podemos decir salvación, pero es ese proceso sanctificador que comienza desde el momento en que nos regeneramos hasta el momento en que morimos.

Eso también se refiere a la salvación. Pero luego hay la salvación futura, el momento en que morimos, y nos graduamos y somos glorificados.

Ahora, todos tres de ellos se refieren a la salvación, y todavía tienen significados muy diferentes. Y he dicho frecuentemente que uno de los problemas más grandes que ves con cultos y otros grupos es que confunden muy regularmente esos primeros dos puntos de la salvación, esa justificación con la santificación.

Y ese es el extento de su comprensión de la fe. Entonces, hay una falta de disciplicidad allí, y hay una falta de enseñanza doctrinal que la

Estamos luchando hacia un objetivo. ¿Y cuál es ese objetivo? Y el artículo que estás hablando es con respecto a la esperanza de la gloria.

Eso es lo que estamos esperando. Nada en este mundo, pero lo que nos han prometido y determinado a través de

Cristo y por Cristo. Tu punto es correcto. La gente puede ver tu nombre y pensar, oh, bueno, esto es la salvación de mis trabajos.

Cuando primero llamé el nombre, en realidad no lo llamaría Luchando por la eternidad, en realidad tenía un nombre diferente.

Quería llamarlo perspectivas eternas porque eso realmente capturó lo que estaba pensando, que tenemos que tener una perspectiva eterna.

Y estaba a punto de hacer el artículo, estaba supuesto a llenar el artículo el domingo, y antes de eso, fui a una conferencia y entré y conocí a alguien con el nombre de

Randy Alcorn de la ministra de perspectivas eternas. Y de repente pensé, oh, eso no va a funcionar.

Pero esa fue la idea que tenía detrás. Quería llegar a algo. Estaba tratando de encontrar qué llamarlo en ese momento, y lo que acabó sucediendo fue que yo leía mis letras cuando la gente escribía letras de mano.

Sé que es un día extranjero, pero yo lo escribiría Intentando por la eternidad.

Y así decidí que así lo llamaríamos. Y así, queríamos ir a través de algunos de los artículos que originalmente escribisteis para responder a esta pregunta, ¿por qué estamos intentando por la eternidad?

Déjenme leer primero, si puedo, de Colosio 3, porque creo que

Cristo, busque las cosas que están arriba donde está Cristo, sentado en la mano derecha de

Dios. Ponga tu mente en las cosas que están arriba, no en las cosas que están en la tierra.

Porque has muerto y tu vida está escondida con

Cristo en Dios. Cuando Cristo, quien es tu vida, aparece, entonces también aparecerás con Él en la gloria.

Y creo que eso captura la idea de que queremos tener nuestras mentes en las cosas que están arriba.

Y creo que lo que terminamos teniendo en cuenta es que para el cristiano, muchos cristianos son realmente informados sobre las cosas de esta tierra.

Mi pensamiento fue realmente cambiado con esto, Bud, fue que yo usaba a hacer consultoría en un centro de adicción y yo haría la consultoría con los chicos y me di cuenta de algo.

Y yo diría a muchos de estos chicos esto, cuando vienen a Cristo y se sienten inadecuados, muchos de estos hombres no tenían educación y el programa en el que estaban básicamente tuvieron más educación bíblica que la mayoría de las personas en las iglesias, incluso la mayoría de las personas que van a instituciones bíblicas o colegios bíblicos.

Tuvieron que memorizar pasajes de la Biblia todos los días durante, estaban en el programa durante cuatro meses, tuvieron pasajes diferentes, a veces solo un verso, a veces un par de versos, pero todos los días tuvieron un verso de memoria.

Así que memorizaron mucho de la Biblia. cuando pasamos por esto, estos chicos luchaban.

Y recuerdo a un señor que me dijo que no podía ver cómo podía vivir la vida cristiana.

Siento que voy a estar siempre cayendo corto. Sólo estoy distractionado por todo alrededor de mí.

Y le pregunté a él la pregunta. Cuando estuviste adicto a las drogas a las que estabas adicto, ¿fue algo que te distrajo de eso?

Tu familia te dejó, te perdiste tu trabajo, te perdiste tu casa, todo. Él dijo, no, la adicción fue todo.

No había distracción. Él dijo, eso fue todo para mí. Bueno, eso es lo que los cristianos deberían ser.

Eso debería ser, eso realmente captura el modo en que los cristianos deberían ser. Que Cristo fuera nuestra adicción.

Que estuviéramos tan enfocados en Él, que no hubiera nada que nos detuviera. Que no nos importara nuestra propia vida, que no nos importara nada más que

Cristo. La diferencia entre Cristo y las drogas es que las drogas que cualquier tipo de pecado van a destruirnos.

Especialmente si nos estamos dándonos la vida, pero Cristo no. No, como

Pablo dijo, Cristo es nuestra vida. Sí, es una cosa completamente diferente, pero es el mismo tipo de concepto.

Puedes ver esto de Pablo, y no es sólo una pérdida psicológica. No es sólo una conversación positiva para empujarte y trabajar hasta el próximo día.

Esto es un crecimiento progresivo, continuo ingreso de la

Escritura, de la palabra de Dios, que hace lo que Pablo dice en

Romanos 12. Reanuda nuestra mente, nos transforma por la reanudación de nuestra mente.

Hace un número de cosas para nosotros. Nos crea confianza, nos crea comprensión, nos crea amor por

Dios, el primer gran comandamento, y nos crea amor por otros. El segundo gran comandamiento.

Si tu enfoque se desvanece, vas a fallar y caer en tu caminata diaria.

Y Pablo nos dice dónde debe estar nuestro enfoque. Debe estar en Cristo. Sí, porque lo que acabas de ver si piensas en lo que dice

Peter, somos sojourneros, somos pilgrimes en este mundo. Pasamos por. Esto no es nuestra ciudadanía.

Nuestra ciudadanía está en el cielo. Estamos pasando por la tierra. Y ese debería ser el pensamiento de los cristianos, que somos sojourneros, que estamos en nuestro camino, pero tenemos cosas que hacer mientras estamos aquí.

Y creo que muchos cristianos hacen la tierra su vida que se enfoca en, que se convierte en todo para ellos.

Y tú y yo estábamos hablando de algunos de los, antes de empezar a grabar, estábamos hablando de algunos de estos oradores, si podemos llamarlos así, que definitivamente no son pastores, la mayoría, que oran un mensaje que puede sonar genial en

América, pero nunca volaría en un lugar como Irán o Irak o China, donde la gente está actualmente perseguida y asesinada por su creencia.

Sí. Este gospel de prosperidad, este mensaje de buenas noticias, no todo es buena noticia.

Y creo que lo que acabas de ver aquí es que una persona que está orando un mensaje así, cuando llegan los exámenes, no tienen una fundación firme porque su foco está abierto.

Sí. Yo vivo en un parque de diversión aquí y recuerdo cuando era niño ir a este parque de diversión, y me encantó.

No importaba, podía sentarme dos horas en una línea para un viaje que tenía 30 segundos y corría y volvía a esa línea.

Nunca pensé en las líneas. Pensé en ese alivio, ese alivio de 30 segundos. Eso era todo.

Fue la anticipación de ese viaje que me dio la alegría de volver a este parque de diversión.

Luego fui allí con mis hijos como adulto y cambió. Porque de repente no iba a los viajes porque no se sentían de la misma manera y mi cuerpo no lo disfrutaba tanto como cuando era niño.

Y la única cosa que recuerdo son las líneas. Porque no tenía más anticipación del viaje.

Cuando retiré ese enfoque del viaje, la única cosa que pensé eran las líneas.

Para la persona que llama el nombre de Cristo y su enfoque no está en el cielo, entonces, ¿en qué se enfoca?

Bueno, en esta tierra. Eso es todo. Eso es todo lo que les quedó. Y cuando pierdes esa anticipación, pierdes todo el enfoque.

Toda la alegría se ha ido. Y por eso hay tantos cristianos caminando tratando de descubrir cómo hacer cosas para que se sientan mejor, para que se sientan más felices.

Y en América vemos a tantas personas ganando más juguetes y ganando más cosas. Como si eso lo solucionara por ellos.

Y la realidad, creo, como vemos, es que si nuestro enfoque está en Cristo, podemos pasar por muchos tratamientos.

Y podemos aprender de ellos y incluso reírnos de ellos, como dice Paul en Filipinos. Pero si tu enfoque está en tu mejor vida ahora, no vas a tener una buena vida.

De hecho, y lo hemos dicho antes, si esta es tu mejor vida ahora, entonces solo tienes el infierno que esperar. Para mí, esta es mi peor vida ahora.

Tengo el infierno que esperar. Amén. Sabes, volviendo a

Colossians, a lo que Paul escribió allí, se abre, estoy leyendo de NASB.

Por lo tanto, si has sido elevado con Cristo. Bueno, puedes leer eso en el negativo también.

Si no has sido elevado con Cristo, no vas a estar buscando las cosas por encima.

La dirección, la perspectiva, las aspiraciones de tu vida van a estar en las cosas que están en la

Tierra y no en las cosas que están por encima. Es una perspectiva valiosa para examinarte para tomar.

¿Cuáles son mis afecciones? Porque un creyente genuino que ha sido regenerado y elevado por el

Espíritu Santo, lentamente vas a ver que tus afecciones cambian. A veces muy rápidamente, pero vas a ver que cambian.

Tus afecciones cambian hacia las cosas que honran a Dios, que Dios ama, y te odias las cosas que

Dios odia. Es lo que Paul en Romans 8 habla de que si estás viviendo según la sangre, tu mente está centrada en las cosas de la sangre, y eso significa la muerte.

Es la mente que está centrada en el Espíritu que es la vida y la paz, y eso progresivamente.

Así que habla de nuestra santificación. Estás haciendo esto por el ingreso de la palabra de

Dios y la meditación y el estudio y la oración que va con eso, y el

Espíritu Santo ilumina su palabra y te creas en la santidad para ser como

Cristo. Es el tipo de resumen de su filosofía de ministerio en Colosios 1, donde dice que está intentando hacer cada hombre completo en

Cristo. Bueno, eso es lo que queremos ser. Eso es lo que estamos intentando. Sí, creo que parte del problema que vemos aquí es realmente un fallo en la pulpa, porque hay muchas pulpas que no apuntan a su congregación a la gloriosidad del cielo, a lo que hay que esperar.

Uno de mis pasajes favoritos es 2 Corintios 5, porque cuando miras eso, ese pasaje está enfocando al creyente a las cosas del cielo.

sabemos, esto es 2 Corintios 5 .1, sabemos que si el tiento que es nuestro hogar terrestre está destruido, tenemos un edificio de

Dios, hecho con manos eternas en los cielos, porque en este tiento hemos crecido pidiendo que pongamos nuestro hogar terrestre.

Ese debería ser el enfoque. Lo ves en Filipinos cuando dice, para mí morir es ganar.

Está mirando adelante a eso. Sí, sí. Entonces ves aquí que la perspectiva de

Paul era estar tan fixado en Cristo y estar con él, que podía pasar por todo lo que pasó, y creo que hay demasiadas pulpitas que no levantan a

Cristo a la altura suficiente para que las personas aprecien lo que ha hecho

Cristo, pero aún más para darles esa fixación, ese enfoque en las cosas eternas.

A menudo pienso, la gente pregunta, ¿qué significa cuando Dios dice que el miedo al

Señor es el comienzo de la sabiduría? Muchas personas tienen una perspectiva negativa del miedo, que el miedo es una mala cosa.

Entonces, ¿cómo podría el miedo al Señor ser una buena cosa? Y aún así, ¿qué significa tener el miedo al

Señor? Cuando tienes miedo a algo, el ejemplo que me gusta dar es que alguien te llega, amigo, pones un arma en tu lado y dices, dame tu dinero.

¿Estás pensando en qué color tu y tu esposa querían pintar la cocina?

No. ¿No? No es que tenga nada que ver con eso, pero aún así. ¿Estás preocupado, en ese momento, estás pensando, ya sabes, ¿he puesto suficiente en mi 401k para mi retiro?

No, no. Hay algo que de repente captiva tu entera atención, ¿no?

Sí. Y eso se llama miedo. El arma en mis retiros. El arma en tus retiros. Eso es lo que es el miedo.

El miedo es captivante. Y eso es lo que tenemos que hacer con

Cristo. Él debería captivar nuestro pensamiento completamente. Sabes, tienes un cuento en el papel que escribiste.

Sé que esto es ridículo hoy, pero es la cristianidad del

Nuevo Testamento. El Nuevo Testamento ataca mucho mayor significado al mundo que viene que a este mundo.

Y termina con un cuento. Nuestra ciudadanía está en el cielo. Y ahí es donde deberíamos estar enfocados.

Mentionas ahí la esperanza de la gloria, a la que Lloyd -Jones se refiere, es el estado eterno del creyente prometido a nosotros en

John 14 .3. Y creo que es interesante que te enfoques en eso porque hay tantas personas que cuando piensan en dónde está el cielo, en

John 14 .3 habla de Cristo que va a preparar un lugar para nosotros. Y pensamos en eso a menudo en el sentido de que esto es cuando tendremos la vida eterna, cuando estemos con Él.

Pero muchas personas no entienden ni siquiera lo que significa tener la vida eterna. Cristo nos dijo qué es la vida eterna en

John 17 .3. Él dice, y esta es la vida eterna, que ellos conocen a ti, el único

Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo a quien has enviado.

Así que la vida eterna no es vivir para siempre, no es vivir en el cielo, no es estar en el cielo.

La vida eterna es, primero, algo que tenemos ahora. Sabemos eso de los escritos de John. Digo esto a ustedes que tienen la vida eterna, no van a tenerla, no una día tendrán, pero tienen la vida eterna.

Porque, ¿qué es la vida eterna? Es conocer a Dios y conocer a Jesucristo.

Un pensamiento muy distinto. Y así, cuando hablamos de luchar, pensamos en esto.

Es un término que creo que muchas personas luchan con, Bud, porque donde muchas de las luchas parecen estar es en el hecho de que piensan que cuando decimos luchar por la eternidad, lo piensan sólo en el aspecto del evangelismo o la idea de regeneración, que estamos trabajando nuestro camino hacia el cielo.

Pero muy claramente, espero, estamos haciendo el punto de que hay otro aspecto en el que podemos decir que estamos luchando por la eternidad.

And that's a well -known quote, and it's a good thing that it's well -known, but it's easy to read.

It is much harder to do, and that's part of the struggle. That's the flesh against the spirit that Paul talks about in Galatians, and then again in Romans.

This is what we're fighting against. We're striving for Christ, but we have to strive against sin to focus on Him and to be obedient, to be holy as He is holy.

You know, we don't struggle only to strive against sin. We also have to strive against the world.

Our culture, as you and I have addressed on this, and I've addressed on many other episodes of the podcast, the culture around us is pretty wicked.

It's not getting better. No. You know, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if we try to act like the world, the world is going to influence us more than we will the world.

And we have so much of what we call American Christianity that is fixated on worldliness.

They're trying worldly means to bring people in the church. They're trying worldly ways to get people to be accepting the gospel.

And they forget that what they win them with, they keep them with. So if you win someone over with worldliness, the only way you're going to keep them in the church is with worldliness.

So you can't move past that. They're never going to grow in the striving for eternity that we're talking about because they're fixated and stuck in the world.

And that's their focus. You have all these, I can't even call them sermons, from people that I can't call pastors who get up in a,

I'm not even sure I can call it a church, but they get up and they do the most insane nonsense to try to illustrate things that have nothing to do with living a life that totally glorifies

God. They speak so much about following the things of this world. And so, you know,

I think that we end up seeing that we have to strive against worldliness.

You know, James warns us in James 4 .4 about someone who makes himself a friend of the world.

What does he make himself if he's a friend of the world? He makes himself an enemy of God. And, you know,

Peter says we are to be holy just as God is holy. That comes from Leviticus, you know, that book that most people don't want to read because, wow.

That's in the black letters up at the front, right? Yeah, the black letters up at the front.

That's exactly right. And yet it's God who is saying that.

You know, why don't we put the red lettering in the Old Testament too when God said be holy for I am holy.

That's who said it first, right? And so, we have to struggle in this striving against the world system that is around us, our culture.

And if people want to try to look like the world, so much of what we're seeing where people are placating and wanting to give in to social justice, give in to women preachers, give in to homosexuality just because it's easier to get along with the world, then you're not going to be salt and light to the world because you've caved in.

You're part of them. Why would the people in the world want to come to a church that's just like them?

What do you have to offer them? No, we have to strive against the world.

There's a third thing, bud, that we strive against. We strive against sin, we strive against the world, and we strive against the enemy.

You know, we end up seeing from Peter that our adversary, the devil, he is like a roaring lion.

He's waiting to do what? To devour us. You see that in 1

Peter 4. That's the description. He's not seeking to get along with us, and the fact is so many people want to just kind of give in.

It is easy, I admit it. It's easy to give in. But that's not what we strive for.

We have to strive against that. We have to strive against the enemy, the devil.

In fact, you bring out the passage in James 4 .7 where it says, Submit therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

So we have the power to resist the devil? Well, not really. We do, in Christ, because we're indwelt with the

Holy Spirit. So by the power of the Holy Spirit, we have the power to resist the devil.

Which is the first part of what James says. By submitting therefore to God, then you're able to resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

I think that's one of the your point there is well taken. It frightens me to think that most

Christians don't understand from the Apostle John that this world, the

God of this world, little g, is Satan. That's why worldliness has to be fought against.

That's why we have to strive against it, because it's from the father of lies. It's the deceiver.

It's the ancient enemy of our Lord, who is in control of this world, certainly at the sovereign will of God, who is permitting this.

But that's what we strive against, and we can have success in that only as we've submitted to God, obeying him in his word.

So when we say that we strive for eternity, we strive because it's commanded, but we strive against things.

We strive against sin, the world, and the enemy, but we strive for a reason.

We strive because we are his. We're in Christ. Not just because he commands us to strive, but the

Christian should be making every aspect of his life to be seeking to strive to do what pleases

God, to strive for eternity. You end up seeing this in Peter, because Peter says this when he ends up talking about this struggle that we have.

When he says in 1 Peter 2 .11, he says, Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.

So, this is not just some little thing that, no, this is a warfare, and therefore, we are to strive, but we strive because we are in Christ.

Once we become in Christ, that automatically puts us against the world.

We're automatically in a position where we are not of the world.

We're in the world, but not of the world. And so, by being his, by being in Christ, we automatically go from being an enemy of God to a child of God.

We go from being a hater of God to an ambassador of God. And that change is going to put us in a position where we no longer have a desire for darkness.

And the world doesn't like that, but because we're in him, we're now of the light.

We now have something different. So, but you have a great quote here from J .C.

Ryle that really kind of summarizes everything that we've been trying to say with what it means to strive for eternity.

How about you read that quote? Okay. Yeah, J .C. Ryle says,

Whatever others may do in religion, the Lord Jesus would have us know that our duty is clear.

The gate is straight. The work is great. The enemies of our souls are many.

We must be up and doing. We are to wait for nobody. We are not to inquire what other people are doing and whether many of our neighbors and relatives and friends are serving

Christ. The unbelief and indecision of others will be no excuse at the last day.

We must never follow a multitude to do evil. If we go to heaven alone, we must resolve that by God's grace we will go.

Whether we have many with us or a few, the command before us is plain.

Strive to enter in. And thus, we who are in Christ, strive for eternity.

The heart's desire for both Bud and I in this episode is that for you who listen, that that would be your motivation.

That you would strive for eternity. That you would have the mindset that we're speaking of.

Especially in this materialistic world and this materialistic season we're in.

That you would see that Christ is of far greater value than anything this world would have to offer.

Amen. That's our desire for you. So live is Christ.

To die is gain. That's biblical Christianity. And so few people,

Bud, understand that passage you just quoted because what he ends up saying there, right in that same passage, he says that to go and be with Christ is far better.

Far better. But, to be able to minister among the

Philippians is needful, is helpful. And then he says an interesting thing.

He says he's hard pressed between the two. That word hard pressed in the

Greek is a very interesting word. It is the term that's used for when they would, when a butcher would slaughter the cattle, what they'd have is these two guard rails that would be very wide at one end and very narrow at the other end.

And they would push the cattle down and the cow would go down and as he's going down these guard rails it gets narrower and narrower and narrower until he gets to the end and he is wedged in.

He's hard pressed. He can't move to the right or to the left. And they do that so that they don't get hurt, the animal doesn't get hurt, you don't lose any meat, you don't hurt a person when you slaughter it.

It's now wedged in. That's what he's saying. I'm hard pressed between the two.

My desire is to depart and be with Christ which is far better.

But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. Are we hard pressed between our great desire to be with Christ and serving him on earth?

Or do we have that pressure where we want to be with Christ that badly but we see the need to be here and serve others on earth?

I think that will change our mindset when we think like that. Yes. And so,
