August 14, 2022 – Sunday Service Live Stream (Part 1)

A little bit today, through illness, the Lemke's and the Mehar's are out. That means our accompanist is also out today.

So we will be singing a cappella, and DJ, as was the case when Melissa was out in recovery, will be leading us.

I would like to ask, as we've done the time test, the people on the outside move in to the middle.

That way we can combine our voices. Let's take a few moments to prepare our hearts.

Good morning, everyone, my brothers and sisters, and welcome to the corporate worship of our God. Please stand.

Hear God call you to worship through his word. Make a joyful shout to the

Lord, all you lands. Serve the Lord with gladness, and come before his presence with singing.

Know that the Lord, he is God. It is he who has made us, and not we ourselves.

We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.

Be thankful to him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endures to all generations.

Let us pray. O Lord, our

Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. You made the heavens and the earth by your great power and your outstretched arm.

Your invisible attributes, your eternal power, and divine nature are clearly seen through what you have made.

The heavens declare your glory. We praise you for your providence. You are the governor and sustainer of all things.

In you all things hold together. In you we live and move and have our being.

You give to all life and breath and all things. You have numbered even the hairs upon our heads.

Not even a sparrow falls from a tree apart from your will. We praise you, our

God, for these your great works of creation and providence. Above all, we praise you for the redemption.

There is no other God besides you, no other savior, no other rock to whom the ends of the earth may turn and be saved.

We rejoice that you so loved the world that you gave your only begotten son, the

Lord Jesus Christ, to be the savior of the world and gave your spirit to abide with us and in us and teach us all things.

May we have fellowship with you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen. As you are able, please kneel for the corporate confession.

Let us join together in confessing our sins. God of love, it is your will that we should love you with heart, soul, mind, strength, and our neighbor as ourselves.

But we are not sufficient for these things. We confess that our affections continually turn away from you, from purity to lust, from freedom to slavery, from compassion to indifference, from fullness to emptiness.

Have mercy on us, order our lives by your holy word, and make your commandments with joy of our hearts.

Conform us to the image of your loving Son, Jesus, that we may shine before the world to your glory.

Amen. Please stand for the assurance of pardon. He himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness.

By whose stripes we are healed. Brothers and sisters in Christ, rejoice. Your sins have been removed as far from you as the east is from the west.

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the

Lord. Thus says the Lord, Stand in the court of the Lord's house and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the

Lord all the words that I command you to speak to them. Do not hold back the word. It may be they will listen and everyone turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them because of their evil deeds.

You shall say to them, Thus says the Lord, If you will not listen to me to walk in my law that I have set before you and to listen to the words of my servants, the prophets, whom

I send to you urgently, though you have not listened, then I will make this house like Shiloh and will make this city a curse for all the nations of the earth.

The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the

Lord. And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying,

You shall die. Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without inhabitants?

And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord. When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of the

Lord and took their seat in the entry of the new gate of the house of the Lord. Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people,

This man deserves the sentence of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.

Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and all the people, saying, The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city and all the words you have heard.

Now, therefore, mend your ways and your deeds and obey the voice of the Lord your God, and the

Lord will relent of the disaster he has pronounced against you. But as for me, behold,

I am in your hands. Do with me as seems good and right to you. Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants.

For in truth, the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears. Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets,

This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God. And certain of the elders of the land arose and spoke to all the assembled people, saying,

Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and said to all the people of Judah, Thus says the

Lord of hosts, Zion shall be plowed as a field, Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountains of the house a wooded height.

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the

Lord and entreat the favor of the Lord, and did not the Lord relent of the disaster that he had pronounced against them?

But we are about to bring great disaster upon ourselves. There was another man who prophesied in the name of the

Lord, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from Kirth -Jerom. He prophesied against the city and against this land in words like of Jeremiah.

And when king Jehoiakim with all his warriors and all the officials heard his words, the king sought to put him to death.

But when Uriah heard it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt. Then king

Jehoiakim sent to Egypt certain men, Elnathan the son of Echabor and others with him, and they took

Uriah from Egypt and brought him to king Jehoiakim, who struck him down with a sword and dumped his dead body into the burial place of the common people.

But the hand of Hiakim, the son of Shapan, was with Jeremiah, so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Let us join our voices together, confessing our common

Christian faith in the singing of the Apostles' Creed. Let us take up the

Trinity hymn a little more time and turn to hymn number 605, 605.

Just a note, the last line of each verse is repeated.

So when we get to the bottom, that last verse is repeated, 605, all the way,

Let us prepare ourselves for the prayers of the people. Let us pray in unison.

Almighty and everlasting God, in whom we live and move and have our being, we, your beloved children, offer to you our humble praises for having preserved us from the beginning of our lives to this day.

Especially do we praise you for having delivered us from the dangers and uncertainties of this past week.

For these mercies we bless and magnify your glorious name, humbly beseeching you to accept this, our morning sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.

For his sake, who lay down in the grave and rose again for us, your

Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us, granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth and in the world to come life everlasting.

Amen. I ask your prayers for God's people throughout the world, for our denomination, for this church, and for all ministers and missionaries.

Pray for the church. Lord, hear our prayers. We lift up this church to you this morning.

Lord God, we thank you for the opportunity we have to worship with the dear saints of Ascension Presbyterian. I pray that you would be with all of those throughout our denomination,

Lord God, and CPC across this country as Sunday services are continuing to start and complete,

Lord God, now. I pray that you would be with all of your people across this world,

Lord God, in different parts of the world that are hostile to you, that you would be with those who preach your word,

Lord God, who sing your praise, for your praise would ring throughout the whole world on this year, Lord, today.

Christ, in we pray. I ask your prayers for the poor, the sick, the bereaved, the burdened, and for the widows and orphans and prisoners.

Pray for those in any need or trouble. Lord, hear our prayers.

Dear Heavenly Father, we lift up those in some kind of need, whether it be financial burdens of sickness, widows, orphans, and those in prison.

Lord God, we pray that your presence would be near, that salvation would come to them, first and foremost. We pray for the sick among us, for the

Lemke family, the Mayer family, and anybody else who is not with us today. We pray that the Spirit move their hearts to utter dependence on you, whether it's on the mountaintops or in the valleys.

We pray that their healing would come quickly, that they may gather together with us again next week. Christ, in we pray.

Amen. I ask your prayers for those who do not know

Christ, and for those who seek a deeper knowledge of Him. Pray that they may find and be found by Him.

Lord, hear our prayers. Father, we give you praise for all the things you have done to accomplish salvation on our behalf.

And I ask, Lord, that in this Lord's Day service, that you would deepen our knowledge of you, that you would convict us of our sin, and that we would be remorseful over it, that we would repent and be sorrowful over it, that you saved us from ourselves, from our sin.

Father, I pray for Ephesians around the world, that you would reveal yourself more to them, that they would be faithful in studying your word, that they would be sitting under the teaching of solid pastors and teachers, and that you would just be with them, that you would deepen their knowledge of them.

And I pray for those who are lost, that by your grace, you would reveal yourself to them in a salvific way, that you would grant our repentance of faith, and that your kingdom would be expanded as the kingdom of Satan.

I ask your prayers for our children and future generations, which will be born to them.

Pray that the knowledge of the Lord will fill the earth through them. Lord, hear our prayers.

Pray that we may have grace to glorify Christ in our own day.

Lord, hear our prayers. With this, purify our hearts, as we go about our daily lives, that we would have great victories against our sinful desires, that we would put our sinful desires to death, and do that which is righteous.

We pray, Father, that you would help us to, in all things, seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly before you.

We praise and thank you for everything that you've done for us, for redeeming us from this bondage of sin.

And we pray, Father, that while we can certainly never fully repay you for what you've done, see if you can help us to walk in accordance, hearts that are constantly thankful.
