Did the Early Church Meet in Houses?

- When the church first began, obviously they did not meet in traditional churches as we know them today.

- They met in houses, right? Well, at the beginning of the book of Acts, the church gathered in the upper room of a house and all these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer.

- 120 believers all together. That's about the size of an average church now. The apostles were filled with the

- Holy Spirit and preached the gospel in Jerusalem. Three thousand people came to faith and were baptized.

- Now you have a mega church. Acts 2 says, and they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers, and day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes.

- The Lord added to their number those who were being saved. In Acts 4 .4, the church had grown to 5 ,000 people.

- In chapter 5, it says they were all together in Solomon's portico, a massive colonnade in the temple over 900 feet long.

- Jesus had taught there too. At the end of the chapter, it says, and every day in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the

- Christ is Jesus. So here's the picture. The church gathered in large places like the temple or a synagogue, but they also gathered in homes for the breaking of bread and more teaching.

- The point is they gathered wherever they could all be together. And so should we.
