Recently a friend asked if I would make a series of videos to aid in family worship. This is the EIGHTH VIDEO in that series, starting our look at the person and work of JESUS, starting with the HYPOSTATIC UNION (The union of the divine and human nature in the person of Jesus Christ) This can be used to prepare a time of family worship or to be shown during family worship. If you like this video and want me to continue, please leave a comment below.

Hey guys, it's Keith and welcome back to our family worship tutorial. I started these videos a few weeks ago and then
00:05
I took some time off because I've been seriously busy. I've went to a conference, I've had a lot of interviews to do, but I've had several of you reach out and say, when are you going to start the family worship videos again?
00:15
So I want to continue to do that, but I'm going to be doing a little bit differently. I'm not going to have as many edits and things coming in because it just takes longer to do that.
00:22
I just want to give you the information and how you use this is up to you. You can either use this by taking the videos and helping you prepare family worship, or you can play this during family worship and walk through it with your family.
00:34
But it's going to be a little bit easier for me to produce if I just do this as a one shot video, talk my way through each lesson and hopefully still be a benefit to you.
00:42
So let me know if you continue to like these and you continue to use them because that helps me to know that I should continue to make them.
00:48
So today we're going to continue on what we started several weeks ago when we talked about the six people that you need to know from the
00:55
Bible. We said there's six important figures in the Bible that you need to know and understanding who these figures are, help you to have a better understanding of the whole
01:05
Bible. And if you want to stop right now and pause the video, you can say, okay, who were the five that we've looked at so far?
01:11
And if you want to do that, you can do that now. And if you didn't, uh, we'll just continue on.
01:16
So what we're going to talk about is who those five people are. We talked about Adam, who was the first man who was created.
01:21
Then we talked about Noah and we know the story of Noah. We talked about Abraham and we talked about Moses and we talked about David.
01:30
And in each one of the previous lessons, I said each one of these people point toward Christ.
01:35
Each one of these people point toward Jesus. And so today begins our conversation about Jesus, because we need to think about the fact that we need definitely more than just one week to talk about Jesus, because Jesus is the whole reason for the
01:52
Bible. The old Testament points forward to Jesus. The gospels tell us about the life of Jesus.
01:59
The book of Acts tells us as the ministry of the apostles, of the apostles who followed Jesus. And then all of the epistles after that tell us about what the theology and the ministry of the church and what they believed about Jesus and what we should believe about Jesus.
02:14
And then of course, the revelation of John tells us about the return of Jesus. So there's so much that we need to understand.
02:20
But the most important thing is that Jesus is the very center of the Bible. The old Testament points forward to him and the new
02:27
Testament is revealing him. And what does it reveal to us about Jesus?
02:32
Well, today we're going to be talking about something called the hypostatic union. The hypostatic union means the union of natures that are in Christ as the one person of Jesus Christ who has two natures.
02:47
And the word hypostatic actually just comes from the word, which means nature or essence. And when we talk about Jesus, Jesus has two natures.
02:56
He has a divine nature and he has a human nature. His divine nature is not partially divine, half divine, three quarters divine, or even 99 % divine.
03:07
But we would say it is truly a divine nature in the same way with this human nature.
03:12
He's not a half man, half God hybrid, but he is as the
03:17
Latin tells us when we say the words vera homo, vera Deus, which means truly man and truly
03:25
God. We are talking about a unique type of individual, a unique person,
03:31
Jesus Christ. He is unique in that he is the only person in history that has been truly
03:37
God and truly man. And so we can say that the fullness of the
03:43
Godhead dwells within him bodily. That's what the Bible tells us. And that's what we mean when we say the word hypostatic union.
03:51
Now some people don't know that word and that's okay. You don't have to know the word hypostatic union, but it's important to understand concepts by the names that they're used.
03:59
In case you hear someone else use that term, you'll now know what it means. Hypostatic union means the union of natures of the divine and the human of the two into the one per in the one person of Jesus Christ.
04:12
Now I'm going to give you a Bible verse that you can remember for this week and the Bible verse this week is
04:17
John one one. I bet you many of you already know it. So if you want to stop right now and pause the video and go around and say, is there anybody in the room who knows it?
04:26
Mom, dad, do you know John one one? Kids have you already, maybe through Sunday school or through home study or maybe through something else you've already learned
04:33
John one one, but if you haven't, here it is. John one one in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was
04:46
God. That's a super important verse. It tells us that Jesus Christ, because it's talking about him.
04:53
When it says the word, it's talking about Jesus. We know that because later in the same chapter it says the word became flesh and dwelt among us.
05:01
And so we know that the word there, the is John's way of speaking about Jesus. He's in Greek, it's the word
05:07
Lagos and it's talking about Jesus. And so it says in the beginning was the word. Jesus was there in the beginning and the word was with God.
05:15
He was with the father and he was God because he's fully God. He is vera homo, vera
05:22
Deus. He is truly man and truly God. So this is what we learned this week and we're going to continue to study about Jesus in the weeks to come.
05:32
I hope this new format continues to work for us. And if you have questions or something you want me to address in a future family worship video, please send me a message.
05:41
I'd be glad to do it. I want to ask that you please leave a comment. If you're enjoying these videos, hit the thumbs up button. If you liked it, hit the thumbs down button twice.
