Jesus is King. Living in that victory. Matthew 3:10-12 He will clear His threshing floor thoroughly.
- 00:23
- Hey, good evening. Sorry about that. This is truth and love and I'm so glad that you could be with me tonight
- 00:29
- I hope everything's working Let me know that you're watching tonight Let me know that That I can pray for you.
- 00:37
- All you have to do is type me I like to pray at the end and I will do that tonight Lord willing and I can pray for you love to be able to do that.
- 00:46
- Just say just type me if you watch the video later You can type me in in the notifications
- 00:53
- And I'll see that at some point and I'll know to pray for you This is truth and love which comes from Ephesians chapter 4 verse 15
- 01:00
- Paul says but speaking the truth in love we're to grow up in all aspects into him who is the head even
- 01:07
- Christ So we want to grow up in all aspects of life Through scripture and when we share that we want to do it in love.
- 01:16
- I like this ministry One of the things that they say is all of Christ for all of life and so that's where we want to be all of Christ for all of life and everything that we do going up into him and also
- 01:32
- Being balanced in that Paul is Paul is saying that with the understanding that we're going to be sharing
- 01:39
- God's truth. We'll be sharing Jesus We will be sharing the gospel. So he says but speaking the truth in love
- 01:45
- So there's there's a middle ground that we walk in as Christians we we're not in the ditch of simply gaining knowledge and we're not in the ditch of Just doing service ministry and helping one another
- 02:00
- Christ God has has ordained it and organized it to where both of those work in harmony so that We know what to do and how he wants us to do it for his glory and we learn that from God's Word and tonight we're continuing with a series
- 02:21
- Jesus is King and living in that victory So therefore we're going into Matthew because Matthew the theme of Matthew what he is doing for us
- 02:31
- He is proclaiming That Jesus is King And so we are we are seeing that Jesus is
- 02:38
- King through the book of Matthew where we're just walking through Matthew Exalting Christ and learning more about Christ His ministry and how we can live in in the victory that he is
- 02:52
- King in our lives. So With that being said Also, I like to share this as well
- 02:58
- The floor is always yours if you have a question if you want to have a discussion
- 03:05
- You know pertaining to to the Bible to church What's going on in the world how we can relate that to to Scripture Religious things.
- 03:15
- I'd love to hear from you. I'd love to hear from you that you're watching Let me know that you're watching
- 03:21
- If if you would like to partner with me lock arms with me as we reach our community for Christ If if you think that this would be an encouragement to someone else
- 03:34
- If You're so inclined Humbly ask that you would you would share the video so that we can together
- 03:41
- Reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ with the truth of his word So I would really appreciate it if you did that starting a new series this
- 03:49
- Saturday I guess we will take a break from Colossians. I Don't know if I will do it on another night or if we'll pick it back up later
- 03:57
- But I'm starting a new series on Saturday mornings. I'm gonna be joined by Daniel self and he is going to help me
- 04:06
- With a series called what is and what we're gonna do is answer questions
- 04:15
- More more like helping us understand some things
- 04:24
- That are in the Bible that are that's about Christianity Will probably answer what is repentance?
- 04:35
- What is belief this Saturday? We're looking at what is the new heavens and the new earth? So we we will probably tackle controversial topics less controversial topics, but we want to answer the question what is
- 04:51
- Blank and we want to answer it from Scripture and and hopefully understand the way
- 04:56
- God wants us to understand it So I'm looking forward to starting and doing that series. What is so that if there's
- 05:04
- Those who are struggling with their faith out there those who are skeptics we can provide some answers for folks in our community answers from the
- 05:15
- Bible about the Bible about God about Jesus about the Holy Spirit about church and so And you'll be able to to listen to to give your input and you'll be able to share so that we can
- 05:30
- We can get the truth of God's Word out to our community So again, if I can pray for you at the end love to be able to do that All you have to do is type me have any questions
- 05:42
- Put it in the comments and if you have any suggestions If you want to talk about anything put the that in the comments as well
- 05:50
- And and let me know that you're watching So tonight we're continuing in Matthew. Jesus is
- 05:55
- King. We're living in that victory We want to look at Matthew and how he
- 06:01
- Shows us how Jesus is King where Matthew chapter 3 if you want to follow along in in God's Word Matthew chapter 3
- 06:08
- We're going to be looking at verses 10 through 12 Not too many verses tonight
- 06:17
- And I'm gonna be reading and looking back as some verses that we looked at before but it's because We're kind of in the same section
- 06:27
- Touching on some some similar issues topics and It helps us to understand what we want to do is we want to to harmonize all of Scripture one part of Scripture cannot
- 06:40
- Contradict the other part of Scripture. So we want to make sure that we're harmonizing Scripture We learn from the
- 06:47
- Old Testament Many things and in many ways how to understand what they are saying in the in the
- 06:55
- New Testament Not every place is Is it spelled out for us so well as as Matthew does here when he he?
- 07:05
- quotes directly From the prophets and and he even gives us their name whether it be
- 07:10
- Jeremiah or Isaiah And he tells us he's quoting from those prophets not everywhere.
- 07:16
- Is it that specific but we do know That we can look back in the
- 07:21
- Old Testament and and see Concepts Analogies pictures
- 07:28
- We know that it's all pointing to Jesus but we can we can go back to the Old Testament and see how they understood these things and And how they were pointing back to those things so that we would know how to understand them correctly and all together
- 07:44
- Understanding it In harmony with one another so that we don't misinterpret
- 07:50
- Scripture. We don't misapply it to our lives And and that's what we want to do so we're gonna we're gonna go back to the
- 07:57
- Old Testament We're gonna understand what he's talking about here And we're gonna look at probably some familiar passages passages.
- 08:05
- We've already looked at before but that's okay Matthew chapter 3 verses 10 through 12 and and let me read it for us real quick starting in verse 10 and The axe is already laid at the root of the trees
- 08:19
- Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire as For me
- 08:27
- I baptize you with water for repentance But he who is coming after me is mightier than I and I am not fit to remove his sandals
- 08:38
- He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire Verse 12 and his winnowing fork is in his hand and he will thoroughly clear his threshing floor
- 08:50
- And he will gather his wheat into the barn and he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire
- 08:59
- It's kind of weird that that I ended in verse 9 and started in verse 10 because verse verse 10
- 09:07
- Kind of wraps up John the Baptist sermon To a degree to the
- 09:12
- Pharisees and Sadducees that that came to where he was baptizing Chapter 3 is the introduction of John the
- 09:20
- Baptist to us in the book of Matthew We we read in verse 23 of Chapter 2 the last quote
- 09:31
- There were four quotes from the Old Testament from the prophets in chapter 2 The last one was it was in verse 23 and then you have that that gap
- 09:40
- In Jesus's life and Matthew picks back up starting with John the Baptist Where John the
- 09:46
- Baptist is in the wilderness it describes What he's wearing Where he's located what he's doing
- 09:53
- He's baptizing and the folks are coming from from all Judea from Jerusalem to be baptized and hear the
- 10:00
- Pharisees and Sadducees Come and he sees them coming and he says you you brood of vipers you offspring or family of vipers
- 10:08
- Who warned you from the wrath to come so? He's speaking directly and even in in verse 10.
- 10:16
- He's speaking directly to the Pharisees and Sadducees and in this section, it's interesting it comes across almost as a lot of warning
- 10:32
- Negative But there's also there's positive and negative. There's both going on here
- 10:39
- When he says who warned you so there's there's the positive aspect, you know, God could just give us what we deserve but here there's the idea of the concept of who who warned you so that's
- 10:55
- That's a positive aspect of this sermon and and that's part of God's mercy is is his warning to us
- 11:03
- The the consequence but yet the the warning this is this is what's to come but then here's here's the
- 11:10
- Good offer the gospel So you see both positive and negative here in John's sermon to the
- 11:18
- Pharisees and Sadducees I'm in verse 9. He's telling them
- 11:25
- Well verse 8 he says You know who warned you from the wrath to come therefore bring forth fruit in keeping with with repentance so he
- 11:37
- You have some concepts here that that you don't need to leave like like in verse 8 when he speaks of Bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance that that concept the idea of fruit
- 11:52
- There's things that you don't need to leave in those verses as you continue to read
- 11:59
- It's called reading it in context studying in context interpreting understanding in context
- 12:05
- So we want to know What comes before what comes after we want to know the passage.
- 12:11
- We want to know the chapter We want to know the book and and as I was talking to you earlier We want to know the
- 12:16
- Old Testament so that we can understand what the author of the
- 12:23
- Being a man and also being the Holy Spirit is speaking to us So it that's the importance of reading and understanding and interpreting in context
- 12:35
- So you don't just leave that that concept especially if it's brought back up later
- 12:41
- So we we need to recall remember retain what we read and then when that concept is brought back up later there's there's possibly connections there that we need to make and Go back read it again
- 12:58
- And see what connections the author is wanting us to make verse 8 is is one of those
- 13:03
- Bring forth fruit And we want to hold on to that word fruit in keeping with repentance in verse 9 and do not suppose
- 13:11
- That you can say to yourself We have Abraham as our father for God can cause children to rise up from Abraham out of these stones and Hey, hey
- 13:26
- Haps, hey Jason, hope you guys are doing well, thank you for joining me Thank you for giving us a shout out and of course any of you if you're watching let me know that you're watching
- 13:34
- I really appreciate it. Love spending time with you. If I can pray for you Let me know that I can do that. Say me type me.
- 13:41
- I'll pray for you at the end Having suggestions critiques comments. Give me those too
- 13:49
- So, yeah, he's got this sermon He's preaching to the Pharisees and Sadducees and and he's telling them bring forth fruit and keeping with repentance
- 13:58
- And don't say to yourselves we have Abraham as our father our lineage our heritage is
- 14:04
- What's going to make us right with God? You need to you need to repent and bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance because God can raise up children out of these stones from Abraham which many scholars believe that it's possible that that John the
- 14:22
- Baptist here and Jesus when he's Has his triumphal entry into Jerusalem and he is
- 14:30
- The Pharisees and Sadducees there are wanting him to hush the crowd because they're praising him
- 14:36
- Worshipping a Hosanna Hosanna to the king and they're wanting him to hush the crowd
- 14:43
- And Jesus tells them, you know, if they don't praise then then the rocks will cry out
- 14:48
- So it's possible that here with John and there with Jesus that we could be
- 14:54
- They could be referencing the Gentiles that were there And we'll speak of the
- 15:00
- Gentiles here again in just a moment So so here we are with some positive with some negative negative who warns you
- 15:08
- To flee the wrath to come and then he's bring forth fruit It's almost like he's giving them a chance an opportunity bring bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance but You need to recognize who you are and and who you're not and who you're not is
- 15:28
- Right with God if you're standing on your your heritage here and then verse 10 if that's where you stand
- 15:36
- If that's where you're gonna stand This this lineage this heritage. I'm gonna be right with God because of my family heritage my lineage
- 15:47
- John is saying that the axe is Already laid it's it's in the place
- 15:53
- Of aim it's it's making its aim. He says the axe is already laid at the root of the trees
- 16:02
- So This points us back to the this is where I was talking about keep keep things in mind
- 16:10
- Remember the context remember things that you read before So he's speaking to them that this judgment that this warning
- 16:18
- The the axe is already laid at the root of the trees so you you hang on to this
- 16:26
- The axe is gonna start chopping But where did we learn about the a root and trees before and we're gonna look at this chapter two times tonight
- 16:36
- But two separate times the we're gonna look at the first part of Isaiah chapter 11 because Remember I referenced
- 16:45
- Matthew chapter 2 verse 23 the the last quote from the from the prophets that Matthew gives he says and he came and resided in the city of Nazareth that That what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled
- 17:01
- He shall be called a Nazarene and we talked about how that's that's not the Nazarite vow
- 17:07
- That and and we shouldn't compare him to Samson. That's not what it's talking about and and there's no particular
- 17:14
- Verse that that says this. So how did they understand it when he said this?
- 17:19
- What would they have recalled and what they would have recalled because? Nazareth or or a
- 17:26
- Nazarene means Branch or sprout and they would have recalled
- 17:32
- Isaiah chapter 11 Then a shoot will spring forth from the stem of Jesse and a branch from his roots
- 17:40
- Will bear fruit and and we see this reference also in Isaiah chapter 53 but here's here's the reference to this tree and then a
- 17:54
- Shoot and a branch that's going to come forth from his roots. So it seems
- 18:03
- To have happened what John the Baptist was warning about?
- 18:09
- Where the axe was laid at the root of the tree The tree was eventually cut down and I think that that we may see that and this is
- 18:23
- In AD 70 when when Jerusalem was destroyed this whole this whole time period with this final rebellion
- 18:31
- And here this final chance John the Baptist is preaching
- 18:36
- He's the herald that the King is coming. The King is here. The King is here The kingdom of heaven is at hand
- 18:41
- So John the Baptist is proclaiming this final warning and and proclaiming that the King is here.
- 18:47
- Jesus preached repent and believed the gospel But you also have the the final covenant breaking and then you have the the tree being cut down and And in Jerusalem and the temple are destroyed in 70
- 19:08
- AD But the good news is
- 19:14
- The prophecy is also fulfilled that Matthew chapter 2 verse 23 speaks of and Isaiah 11
- 19:22
- Isaiah 53 speaks of where this the sprout This branch from the root of Jesse comes up that bears fruit and that speaks to that that next part of verse 10
- 19:34
- Every tree there therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire
- 19:41
- So it did not produce good fruit, right? And so it was cut down But then you have this sprout this branch from the root of Jesse that springs up and Jesus does bear good fruit and and I think it's
- 20:02
- Micah was the reference that Jesus is is the fig tree that we can go to and and rest under So Jesus is the tree and he bears good fruit and we can rest in him but this this warning came to pass the the axe was
- 20:24
- There it was laid at the root and it finally swung and that tree was cut down but praise
- 20:31
- God we have The the branch the sprout from the root of Jesse that come up and then the tree that That does not bear good fruit
- 20:44
- It says it will be thrown into the fire And then there's our next word fire that we want to hang on to because it's gonna come up in our next few verses so there's a there's a lot of concepts that we need to hang on to and And we need to recall as we continue to read in context.
- 21:06
- So let's flip over and look at verse 11 as for me John the
- 21:12
- Baptist is still preaching. He's still speaking to them as for me. I baptize you with water for repentance so This is my understanding that this baptism
- 21:28
- Concept was something more familiar to them in the fact that it was it was more for Proselytes which would be
- 21:38
- Gentile converts to Judaism So if you were a Gentile and you came into the religion of Judaism, they would baptize you into this religion the religion of Judaism so that's baptism was for Someone other than them and what
- 21:57
- John the Baptist that this idea of repentance here throughout the chapters chapter 3
- 22:03
- Which we've already looked at He's in the wilderness. He's in Judea and the Jordan He's baptizing this concept and and what he's calling them to this this baptism and this repentance
- 22:16
- This was not supposed to be for them. This was for The Gentiles who would be proselytes converts into Judaism.
- 22:24
- So to me, it's almost an Offensive thing to call them to repentance to call them to baptism because John the
- 22:33
- Baptist is saying to them you're out You're not in you're out and he going back to their their idea of Abraham and Holding on to their lineage there
- 22:47
- You're you're out. You're not in You need to be Baptized into something else you need to repent of that And be baptized into something else and this baptism that I'm doing
- 23:02
- John is saying It's just more ritualistic.
- 23:08
- It's clearing the way and and these Old Testament passages that we read Speak of that so so masterfully and beautifully speaking of You know the the mountains coming down and the valleys going up So everything is is flat and and the path is being cleared.
- 23:29
- That's what John the Baptist is doing He's clearing that way for the gospel for Jesus Christ And that's what repentance is
- 23:37
- Getting things out of the way so that there's a flat smooth path with no obstacles so that that You can come directly and straight to Jesus And he can come to you with nothing in the way, but of course this was an offense to them to Have them be called to this
- 24:00
- Because he was saying to them you're out But this wasn't enough
- 24:06
- John was saying There's one that's gonna come he who was coming after me
- 24:11
- John says and this is this is our King This is this is the climax. This is who we're speaking of.
- 24:18
- This is who we're exalting He is coming after me John he says he's mightier than I so John is not out in the wilderness exalting himself
- 24:29
- You know seeking to grow his kingdom to grow his ministry to to you know have all this money
- 24:38
- What what is on John's mind is leading people clearing the path For them receiving
- 24:46
- Jesus and what he has to offer He's coming and he's mightier than I and I'm not fit to remove his sandals
- 24:55
- You know the the the job that was reserved for the the least person in in the household
- 25:03
- What the washing of the feet? removing of the sandals washing of the feet
- 25:11
- John says I'm not even fit To untie his sandals to take his shoes off Much less wash his feet much less be in his presence.
- 25:23
- He's not he John sees who he is In comparison with with Jesus with God himself
- 25:31
- I'm not fit to untie his sandals So John has this this right understanding which which we all should which should lead us to repentance
- 25:43
- The the holiness of God will lead us to repentance The law of God reflects the holiness of God.
- 25:52
- So therefore the law of God will lead us to repentance the kindness of God leads us to repentance because His kindness is so Exalts his holiness how good he is how wonderful he is
- 26:09
- So every every character every aspect of who God is When we when we look at him and observe him and reflect upon him will will lead us to repentance
- 26:24
- Clearing away a turning away from everything So that we can have all of Jesus all of the
- 26:33
- Holy Spirit But he says when he comes
- 26:40
- Jesus he will baptize you John said I baptized you with just water
- 26:47
- For repentance just to clear the way but when he comes he will baptize you with Holy Spirit with the
- 26:56
- Holy Spirit and fire I'm gonna start with a second one because Starting with the
- 27:03
- Holy Spirit. I want to end with the Holy Spirit because it's so magnificent. It's so wonderful But I think he's talking about two separate things
- 27:12
- I don't think that John is speaking of the Holy Spirit and fire and and them being spiritually the same here and the reason is because Fire is another one of those words
- 27:26
- That we need to hang on to because it comes up again it's already come up before actually and and fire often in Scripture is understood as judgment and And what happened what happened in the previous verse?
- 27:43
- The tree that did not bear good fruit. What happened to it? it was cut down and thrown into the fire and What happens when you're thrown into the fire that the trees burn up burn till crisp it's gone and so staying within that context
- 28:04
- You're gonna you're gonna be in Jesus either way you're gonna either be in him through the
- 28:09
- Holy Spirit we're gonna look at that in a second or you're gonna be in him in his judgment and Here that judgment is fire that he's talking about.
- 28:17
- If you don't know if you do not bear good fruit which is Repentance of your your self -righteousness and trying to trying to bear good fruit on your own and turning to the one who
- 28:33
- Actually bore good fruit Jesus and putting your faith and trust in him if you don't do that Then you will be cut down and you will be baptized in fire in judgment
- 28:49
- Look at verse 12 his winnowing fork his tool that separates You've got the harvest there on the threshing floor
- 29:01
- And you use that tool that winnowing fork to separate the wheat from the chaff
- 29:06
- And what happens to the chaff when he separates the chaff? It will be burned up in unquenchable fire
- 29:15
- So that's where we are being baptized in the Holy Spirit or being baptized in in judgment in fire
- 29:23
- The fruit the tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and Tossed into the fire
- 29:30
- You will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. You'll be baptized with fire judgment and then
- 29:37
- Here's the analogy if you're the chaff The tree that did not bear good fruit if you're not in him
- 29:45
- If you do not turn from your sins and put your faith and trust in him our King You'll be thrown into the unquenchable fire
- 29:56
- So there's the warning there's the judgment there's the the negative But the negative also in this case because For many there's still time
- 30:08
- It's mercy Because it's still a warning for many.
- 30:15
- It's not anymore But for many today and many to come it's mercy because it's a it's still a warning for us
- 30:23
- It's still a warning for you it's still a warning for our friends our family our neighbors
- 30:29
- If you do not bear good fruit Which means turning from your sins Turning from your efforts to bear good fruit and turning to the one who did bear good fruit putting your faith and trust in him you will be thrown into the fire baptized with fire with judgment and Cast into the unquenchable fire
- 30:52
- So there's the warning now, let's go back to being baptized in the Holy Spirit And this is we're gonna where we're gonna go back to the
- 31:01
- Old Testament And we're gonna see Some context we're gonna see
- 31:08
- Where the Holy Spirit was working the Old Testament and how it ties into here and it's gonna be good.
- 31:15
- It's gonna be glorious So we're gonna start and we're gonna look at two chapters. We're gonna go back to Isaiah chapter 11
- 31:22
- Because John the Baptist says he he who is mightier than I he's going to come and he's gonna baptize with the
- 31:30
- Holy Spirit, so let's go back to Isaiah chapter 11 and Look look at How it speaks of the
- 31:39
- Holy Spirit and then we're gonna see how it relates to us and being baptized in the
- 31:44
- Holy Spirit So in verse 1 of chapter 11, we read we read about the shoot the the branch
- 31:52
- From the root of Jesse it will bear fruit and then in verse 2 listen what it says in verse 2
- 31:59
- This this stem this branch, of course, this is a messianic prophecy speaking of Jesus Jesus fulfilled this prophecy verse 2 and the
- 32:10
- Spirit of the Lord Will rest on him So the
- 32:15
- Holy Spirit God's Spirit he will rest on him The spirit of wisdom and understanding the spirit of counsel and strength
- 32:26
- Okay, so follow along with what Isaiah is saying about the
- 32:32
- Messiah And what's what's taking place in him?
- 32:38
- Okay, so the Holy Spirit is resting upon him and Due to that and and a reaction to that and what's being produced through that Is what we're reading about now and and keep it log it in your mind.
- 32:54
- Hold on to it But listen to what he's saying Listen to what's going on the spirit of wisdom and understanding the spirit of counsel and strength the spirit of knowledge and the fear of The Lord and he will delight in the fear of the
- 33:06
- Lord and he will not judge by what his eyes see Nor make a decision By what his ears hear
- 33:14
- But with righteousness he will judge the poor Hold on to that and I Keep stopping because I want us to hold on to these concepts.
- 33:26
- Hold on to what we hear is going on But with righteousness he will judge the poor
- 33:35
- He decide with and decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips.
- 33:45
- He will slay the wicked Also righteousness will be the belt about his loins and faithfulness the belt about his waist and the wolf
- 33:55
- Will dwell with the lamb and the leopard will lie down with the kid And the calf with the young lion and the fatling together and the little boy will lead them also
- 34:06
- The cow and the bear will graze their young will lie down together And the lion will eat straw like the ox and the nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra
- 34:19
- And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den and they will not hurt or destroy
- 34:26
- In all my holy mountain for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the lord
- 34:32
- As the waters cover the sea Then it will come about in that day
- 34:39
- Then that the nations will resort to the and here's the other bookend You have verse one speaking of the root of jesse and here's the other bookend
- 34:48
- So we're talking about the messianic prophecy Jesus fulfilling that fulfilling this prophecy
- 34:57
- There in the first century That the nations will resort to the root of jesse who will stand as a signal for the peoples
- 35:10
- And his resting place will be glorious All right.
- 35:15
- So the holy spirit is resting on the messiah and this is what we're going to be seeing happened through the messiah
- 35:23
- But what does that have to do with? The messiah coming and baptizing with the holy spirit
- 35:29
- We just read about the holy spirit resting upon him. What does it have to do with us? So hang on to all those concepts that we just read about that That's going to be taking place through the messiah
- 35:43
- After the holy spirit rests on him flip over to isaiah chapter 42
- 35:49
- And this is going to bring us into the mix that help us to understand what happens in matthew chapter 3 verse 11 and 11 and 12 starting in verse 1
- 36:05
- Behold My servant whom I uphold My chosen one in whom my soul delights messianic prophecy
- 36:15
- I have put my spirit upon him There's there's that concept again.
- 36:22
- God has put his spirit upon him What's going to happen he will bring forth justice to the nations
- 36:32
- He will not cry out or raise his voice Nor make his voice heard in the streets so that uh, there there's not this
- 36:45
- Great and mighty uh immediate Calamity type situation going on.
- 36:52
- He's not going to cry out. He's not going to raise his voice He's not gonna make his voice heard in the street verse 3 same concept a bruised reed.
- 36:59
- He will not break There's not this immediate snapping going on And a dimly burning wick.
- 37:07
- He will not extinguish He will faithfully bring forth justice
- 37:14
- Okay, so it's not happening like this It's patient And he will faithfully bring forth justice
- 37:25
- So in isaiah 11 isaiah 42 you have the holy spirit resting coming upon the messiah
- 37:32
- Which jesus fulfilled Right And now we have what's going to be happening
- 37:40
- As a result of that faithfully He will faithfully bring forth justice
- 37:48
- He will not be disheartened or crushed Until he has established justice where in jerusalem
- 37:59
- In the earth, so we're speaking globally here, right? He will not be disheartened or crushed until he has established
- 38:07
- Remember, it's not it's not calamity. It's not fast. He's faithfully bringing justice
- 38:15
- In the earth and the coastlands Will wait expectantly for his law
- 38:23
- There's there's a new Uh, there's something going on with with nature with the earth
- 38:32
- They're expecting they're expectantly waiting for his law Thus says god the lord who created the heavens
- 38:40
- And stretched them out and who spread out the earth and its offspring
- 38:46
- Who gives breath breath to the people of it? And a spirit
- 38:53
- All right Now here's where we're going back to matthew chapter 3, okay, so what have we learned
- 39:02
- There's a messiah coming And the holy spirit is going to Be upon him is going to rest on him
- 39:09
- And these are the things that are going to be taking place As it fills the earth.
- 39:15
- He's going to be bringing justice to the earth Not like this Not breaking a reed.
- 39:21
- He's not going to blow out a candle He's going to be faithfully bringing justice to the earth and the coastlands are going to are
- 39:29
- Expectantly waiting for this for his justice to be spread out to come to them and now and the and the spirit
- 39:41
- Verse five middle of verse five who gives breath to the people On it and spirit
- 39:48
- To those who walk in it So he's going to be giving his spirit To the people
- 39:57
- I am the lord I have called you now. We're in transition. So what happened in matthew chapter 3 verse, um 11
- 40:07
- He who is coming is mightier than I and he's going to baptize you in the spirit and with the holy spirit
- 40:15
- All right So the old testament says there's a messiah coming and the holy spirit is going to rest on him
- 40:22
- It's going to lay on him be upon him and then when he comes john the baptist says he's going to baptize you with the holy spirit so that Jesus agenda through the holy spirit now becomes your agenda and jesus is going to be working
- 40:39
- In and through you through the holy spirit because you're now baptized in the holy spirit
- 40:45
- And what was his work faithfully bringing forth justice in the holy? Um in in the earth and isaiah chapter 42, um
- 40:55
- Starting at the the halfway mark of verse five The prophecy even speaks to those who um who walk in it
- 41:04
- Um will receive the holy spirit. He will he will give them his spirit. He says i'm the lord.
- 41:10
- I have called you Those those who have the spirit I have called you in righteousness
- 41:18
- I will also hold you By the hand and watch over you And I will appoint you as a covenant to the people as a light to the nations
- 41:31
- So those who are baptized in the holy spirit, we're going to be doing the work that jesus is doing
- 41:36
- We're going to be bringing justice into the earth and we're going to be a light to the nations.
- 41:41
- He says to open blind eyes God is using us through the work of the holy spirit to be a light to the nations to open blind eyes to bring out
- 41:53
- Prisoners from the dungeon and those who dwell in darkness from prison.
- 41:59
- I am the lord. That is my name I will not give my glory to another nor my praise to a graven image
- 42:07
- Behold the former things have come to pass And I think we're going to be speaking of this saturday saturday morning at 7 30 with daniel self
- 42:18
- We're going to be speaking of these things Behold the former things have come to pass
- 42:25
- Now I declare what? New things the old things are past with the messiah with the holy spirit on the messiah
- 42:37
- And the messiah baptizing us with the holy spirit Is new a new thing has come the old things are past The axe was laid to the root and the tree was chopped down The branch come forth from the root of jesse in the desert
- 42:57
- Desert land it grew as isaiah 53 tells us where nothing else could grow
- 43:03
- Only this tree grew and could grow and it bears good fruit It's a new thing
- 43:11
- Now I declare new things before they spring forth. I proclaim them to you Sing to the lord a new song sing his praise from the end of the earth
- 43:22
- You who go down to the sea and all that is in it you islands
- 43:28
- And those who dwell on them let the wilderness and and its cities lift up their voices the settlements
- 43:36
- Where qadar inhabits let the inhabitants of selah sing aloud Let them shout for joy from the tops of the mountains
- 43:45
- Let them give glory to the lord and declare his praise in the coastlands The lord will go forth like a warrior.
- 43:53
- He will arouse his zeal like a man of war He will utter a shout. Yes, he will raise a war cry
- 44:00
- He will prevail against his enemies. Isn't that a wonderful promise? He will prevail against his enemies and he's working through us to bring justice in the earth
- 44:11
- Isn't that amazing? That god is doing that through us through his people I believe looking at the harmony of scripture
- 44:21
- That's what it means to be baptized By the messiah with the holy spirit that god is now working in and through us
- 44:32
- Because we have the holy spirit in us Doing the work of the messiah bringing justice to the earth.
- 44:38
- We're alive in the nations I mean that was written to those that god has called out in righteousness
- 44:46
- He will give them the spirit And we will be a light to the nations open a blind
- 44:51
- Open eyes of the blind bring those who are in darkness out of the dungeon those who are prisoners bring them out
- 44:59
- That's the we're bringing justice to the whole earth That's the what the messiah is doing through us through the gospel
- 45:10
- Through evangelism But it's not just that By faithfully following jesus christ in everything that we do all of jesus all of christ for all of life if you're a husband and You're You're doing
- 45:35
- We could just go on with all kinds of examples But whatever you're doing
- 45:43
- That you think is is unnoticed that is unimportant whatever you're doing
- 45:51
- Do it as unto the lord Because you're bringing justice to this earth through what you're doing
- 45:58
- And it's bringing glory to god When When someone is doing something in obedience scripture says
- 46:08
- Whatever you do Do it as unto the lord You're being obedient to the lord
- 46:17
- And so every time you're being obedient to the lord You're being bringing justice to the earth and you're filling the earth with justice god's justice
- 46:29
- So it's more Than evangelism. It's more than teaching.
- 46:36
- It's more than service ministry it's all of it together for the glory of god and exalt in christ
- 46:46
- It's all of it all of christ for all of life. It's everything So if you've not
- 46:55
- If you've not come to christ I would I would plead with you that you would come to him turn from your sin turn from Whatever is keeping you from jesus
- 47:11
- And come to him put your faith and trust in him because he he's the king Jesus is the king everything was made by him for him and through him
- 47:24
- He he is the king of the universe whether we Like it or not if we're if we're not in him, we definitely don't like it
- 47:36
- But whether we acknowledge it or not, he is king And he is establishing justice in the earth as king
- 47:47
- And he's doing it through us when we are baptized with the holy spirit He is working in and through us
- 47:55
- To bring his justice In the earth And to fill the earth with his justice
- 48:04
- And his kingdom is going to grow and continue to grow And we are fortunate we are blessed because the mercy and grace of god to be a part of that kingdom
- 48:19
- So, please if you not turn to christ turn to him today if I can pray for you
- 48:26
- Let me know that I can do that. I'd love to be able to pray for you And let's go ahead and do that Right now and we'll wrap things up father.
- 48:35
- We thank you for the time that you've given us to spend in your word tonight I pray that if there's anyone who listens that does not know you as their savior
- 48:46
- I pray that You would work repentance in their heart that The mountains would be made low the valleys would be would come up and all the obstacles would be pushed away through repenting of their sins
- 49:06
- So that they can receive your forgiveness through faith and trust in jesus christ
- 49:14
- Thank you for your kingdom Thank you that we get to be a part of your glorious work in this earth we're
- 49:26
- So blessed and Unworthy And humbled that you would
- 49:36
- Rescue us and save us despite who we are and what we've done against you
- 49:45
- So father we thank you and we glorify you worship and praise you And we we hope that you will receive all the glory through our time together
- 49:57
- In jesus name we pray amen Thank you for watching Remember that jesus is king
- 50:03
- Go live in that victory and let's continue to get out there and proclaim the gospel and Bring forth justice on the earth.
