- 00:01
- Michael, thank you for teaching last week for me, why I dressed up my Presbyterian clothes, and will you open us up with a word of prayer?
- 00:09
- I will, I will. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we do thank you for this day that you've given us.
- 00:15
- We thank you for your goodness to us in all things, because you are good, great and greatly to be praised.
- 00:21
- We pray, Lord, now that you would be with our brother Mike as he opens your word, and as we follow along, we pray that you would bless the effort and study that he's put in this week, and pray that you would use him to encourage us in our faith, and bless us now in this time together in study.
- 00:39
- In Christ's name we pray. Amen. Revelation chapter 12.
- 00:52
- 12 and 13 come together, so I will read 12 and 13, because, remember, we're still in the little book section, or the little scroll section of the book, within the book.
- 01:08
- So, chapter 12, beginning in verse 1. And a great sign appeared in heaven.
- 01:15
- It was a woman clothed with the sun and moon under her feet, and on her head was a crown of twelve stars, and she was with a child.
- 01:24
- And she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth. But then another sign appeared in heaven, and behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads, ten horns, and his heads were seven diadems.
- 01:36
- And his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven, and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth, he might devour her child.
- 01:48
- And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a lot of iron.
- 01:54
- And her child was caught up to God and to his throne. And then a woman fled, the woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a place prepared by God, so there she would be nourished for 1 ,260 days.
- 02:08
- And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon, and a dragon and his angels waging war.
- 02:15
- And they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven.
- 02:21
- And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old, who was called the devil and Satan, who deceased the whole world.
- 02:28
- He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying,
- 02:34
- Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our
- 02:45
- God day and night. They overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.
- 02:55
- For this reason rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil has come down to you having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.
- 03:06
- And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child, but the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman so that she would fly into the wilderness to her place where she was nourished for a time, times and half the times, from the presence of the serpent.
- 03:24
- And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood.
- 03:32
- But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth, drank up the river, which the dragon poured out of his mouth.
- 03:39
- So the dragon was enraged with the woman, went out to make war with the rest of her children, as those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
- 03:49
- And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore, and then I saw a beast coming out of the sea having ten horns, seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.
- 04:02
- And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet like those of a bear, and his mouth was like the mouth of a lion.
- 04:09
- And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority. And I saw one of the heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed.
- 04:18
- And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast. And they worshiped the dragon because he gave them authority, they gave their authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying,
- 04:28
- Who is like the beast? Who is able to wage war with him? And there was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words of blasphemies, and the authority to act for 42 months was given to him.
- 04:41
- And he opened his mouth and blasphemies against God to blaspheme in his name and his tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven.
- 04:50
- And it was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and the authority over every tribe, people, tongue, and nation was given to him.
- 05:00
- And all who dwell on the earth will worship him, and everyone whose name was not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the
- 05:09
- Lamb who has been slain. And if anyone has an ear, let him hear. If anyone is destined for captivity, captivity he goes.
- 05:16
- If anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.
- 05:23
- And then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke, but he spoke like a dragon.
- 05:32
- He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast whose fatal wound was healed.
- 05:42
- He performs great signs so that even he makes fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men.
- 05:49
- And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs which it was given to him to perform in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound of the sword and has come to life.
- 06:03
- And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as that do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.
- 06:14
- And he calls us all, small and great, rich and poor, free man and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead.
- 06:22
- And he provides that no one would be able to buy or sell except for the ones who have the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.
- 06:32
- Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred sixty and six.
- 06:46
- All right, so there was a pile of stuff in there. We will probably just get through some preliminary stuff.
- 06:57
- It is a new section within a section. Anybody remember the structure of the book?
- 07:04
- How we understand things progressing. We have already went through the seven seals, correct?
- 07:11
- Was that seven seals? It came to what happened at the end of the seven seals? We had a final judgment scene.
- 07:19
- We got to the end of the trumpets. What did we have? Final judgment scene. So what we have is parallels and the progressive, and that means each one is progressing in not only in information but in intensity.
- 07:34
- But here we also have a parallel to where in when we talked about the two witnesses, those two witnesses was a picture of the church age, or at least my understanding was a picture of the church age, and the two witnesses represented what?
- 07:50
- The church. Those would be proclaiming, and what would they do? They would be able to prophesy.
- 07:55
- They would be able to have power over the sky. They would be able to call down blessings, not call down blessings.
- 08:02
- But what would happen after they had power, purpose, and protection? Remember those are the three Ps. After that, what would happen?
- 08:10
- When their prophesying finished after 1260 days, who made war with them? The beast.
- 08:17
- The beast coming out of the abyss would make war with them, and if you're listening to chapter 12, you're seeing some of the same things.
- 08:24
- So now we're having another description of what's going to take place in the times between Jesus's death, burial, resurrection, and ascension till his coming again, which we would say would either be the gospel age, the church age, however you want to coin that.
- 08:40
- That is where we are at again, and we're going to see part of that again in chapter 12. But chapter 12 begins it going back almost to the beginning of the nation, and how should we understand that?
- 08:53
- So there, let me find a pen. We had, it's interesting, we had seven seals, seven trumpets, and we will have seven bowls, or the
- 09:09
- King James says vials. There's a vial in it. But in between here, and it's not actually said seven, seven, seven, but I don't know if you noticed, in between here and here, you have, some people believe it's seven signs.
- 09:27
- I prefer seven scenes. And reason being is because, can y 'all see that back there?
- 09:42
- Do I need to write it over there better? What's the first thing we see? Chapter 1, 12, verse 1?
- 09:52
- A woman. I'll write them down, but I'm trying to get y 'all to help me.
- 09:59
- Okay, what comes after that? Dragon.
- 10:05
- Then what do you have? Child. Male child. What after that?
- 10:15
- Michael the Angel. Yep. Five, what would be the fifth one?
- 10:24
- Offspring, is that right? The child's offspring? Yep, that's it. Offspring.
- 10:35
- I should have wrote it over there, and now I'm running out of the room. I know nobody can see that.
- 10:41
- Then we have some of the controversial stuff. The beast that comes out of the sea, and then you're going to have the beast that comes out of the land.
- 10:54
- These were in chapter 13. That's why I read chapter 13, because these are the seven things that come up in those seven signs, and each one of them are conveying something.
- 11:07
- And what is it conveying? Well, as we walk through that, we'll get a better understanding.
- 11:13
- So, immediately in chapter 12, verse 1, you have, a great sign appeared in heaven, and it was a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and on her head had a crown of twelve stars.
- 11:30
- She was with child, and she cried out, and being in labor and in pain, was about to give birth.
- 11:37
- Now, there is many understandings of who this woman is.
- 11:44
- The Roman Catholic Church says this is Mary. There's a huge problem with that.
- 11:50
- We have twelve stars on her head, on her crown, and just to let you know, the word, the crown in there is not diadema.
- 12:02
- It's Stephanas. The Greek word is Stephanas, and you remember what the two differences was?
- 12:12
- The diadema was actual royalty, not as in Victor, as in Stephanas, as a conqueror, but actual royalty, regal, almost queen -like, if it was diadema, but it is the
- 12:30
- Stephanas. Anybody remember what the crown we get when we die? What we get? Stephanas, and it is the the wreath that we have finished the race, we have kept the faith, we have finished the course.
- 12:43
- Well, in this case, this woman with these twelve stars on her, Stephanas, represents something, but it also says this woman was clothed with the sun, moon, and the moon under her feet.
- 12:57
- Where in Scripture have we seen, actually it would have been 11, and then you would have had the moon and the sun.
- 13:11
- Anybody remember where we would have seen that before in Scripture? I know
- 13:17
- I'm asking you to, what's that? I didn't hear you. Genesis. Yep, Genesis.
- 13:23
- Anybody remember with the two dreams that got Joseph thrown in a hole, was, had to do with this right here.
- 13:33
- So when he had his little dream, and if you wanted to go back, it begins in chapter 37 of Genesis.
- 13:39
- I don't want to go back there and read all through that, but we'll give you the Cliff Notes version. He has a dream, and if there's anything that could ever be said about Joseph, we see
- 13:51
- Joseph really didn't have any character flaws. Not saying he wasn't a sinner, because he was. Just like Daniel, we don't see any character flaws in Daniel, but he was a sinner.
- 13:59
- But as the Scripture has revealed itself about Joseph, he didn't have any moral declines, we should say, as everyone else in Scripture.
- 14:12
- But we will say this, at his young age at 17, 15, however old that way he was, he didn't have any discernment.
- 14:20
- And what he did is he said, hey, check it out, I had these dreams, and you guys are all gonna bow down to me.
- 14:26
- And that didn't work out well. And not only did he do it one time, how many times did he do it? Twice.
- 14:32
- And what would the 11 what were the 11? Well, it would have been his brothers.
- 14:43
- What were the brothers? Yep, what were the brothers? What were the names?
- 14:53
- Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah. We're just gonna go through the birth mothers, okay? Leah had
- 14:59
- Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah. She had Zebulun, Issachar.
- 15:05
- We're gonna give her the benefit of the doubt. She did have a girl, so nobody get upset. We're not excluding the girls, but she had who?
- 15:12
- Dinah, the only one. Remember the great infraction of Simeon and Levi? What did they do?
- 15:19
- I ain't saying what they did was right, but I understand. They raped their sister, and them guys went back and they killed every boy in the city, and it's wrong, but I understand, okay?
- 15:32
- Understand. Who did Leah have? I mean, who did Rachel have?
- 15:38
- These are his real wives. Joseph and Benjamin. Then Zilpah.
- 15:44
- Who did that would have been? Bilhah. Zilpah. There you go.
- 15:55
- Full transcript right there. Yeah, and those were his brothers, which ultimately would be the nation of Israel.
- 16:06
- Who was the sun and the moon in the dream he had? His mother and father.
- 16:13
- Now, don't get technical on me and say, well, he had actually, Jacob had four wives.
- 16:18
- That's not the point. In an apocalyptic vision, what is it trying to convey? It's trying to convey the nation of Israel coming in full view, okay?
- 16:30
- Now, many believe that this is speaking of ethnic
- 16:35
- Israel, okay? Many believe this is speaking of the reconstitution of ethnic
- 16:41
- Israel, and this is mostly to do with a dispensational eschatological view, which I do not hold.
- 16:47
- The reason, most reason why I've never believed that when
- 16:53
- I got saved, I didn't come with all that baggage. So, they make a sharp distinction between Israel and the church.
- 17:01
- Are they two separate things? Well, yes, they are two separate things. Israel was typological, real, okay?
- 17:10
- You want to talk about ethnic Israel, the one that God made the Mosaic legislation with. Was it a real covenant with real people, with real stipulations, with real blessings and real cursings?
- 17:21
- Yes, but what did it point to? It pointed to something greater that would be, would make up of every nation, tribe, and tongue, and I don't want anybody to have any misconceptions that I somehow believe in replacement theology, because I do not.
- 17:35
- I do not believe that the church replaces Israel in God's eschatological unfolding of redemptive history, but I can promise you they did get replaced in one thing, and I could take it to the parable of the lawless vinedressers.
- 17:55
- In the lawless vinedressers in Matthew, the parable, Jesus is giving this on the temple precincts on the week in which he was betrayed, and he is teaching, and he says, hey, let me tell you a story.
- 18:09
- Let me give you a parable. This guy has a vineyard, and he rents it out to these tenants.
- 18:15
- Well, when it comes time to pay up, he sends his people, hey, go get my produce.
- 18:21
- Remember what happens? They beat him. Then, he says, all right, maybe they, maybe they had a misunderstanding of what
- 18:31
- I meant. I'm gonna send somebody else, and he sends them again. What happened? Yep, and he said, all right,
- 18:37
- I will send my son. They won't do that to my son. What did they do?
- 18:44
- He says, they saw the sun coming afar off, and as that sun was coming, they say, hey, if we kill this guy, we'll be able to keep the vineyard, and Jesus then, saying this to them, said, this, the prophets had come and come and come and tried to preach to you.
- 19:02
- Covenant prosecutors, that's what the prophets were, and what did they do? They killed the prophets. He says, and then, now, this man's going to send his son, and you're going to kill him.
- 19:10
- Who is that a picture of? Christ, and he says, he, they knew, and you get to the end of that parable, it says, and they knew he was talking about them, but it says then that then
- 19:22
- God's going to take that away from them and give it to someone that'll do what they were supposed to do with it to produce fruit.
- 19:29
- So, what was the part, what was the nation of Israel supposed to be? They were supposed to be a light unto the
- 19:35
- Gentiles. What did they do? They did not do that. They actually pulled themselves in and made everybody else unclean and not worthy of anything that they had, not worthy of hearing the good things that God had planned for the
- 19:49
- Gentiles, and what did God do? He said, because they rejected that, I'm going to take it from you, and I'm going to give that to the church in purpose of sharing the gospel.
- 19:56
- So, that's not replacement theology, that's purpose. The purpose of Israel was to do this.
- 20:02
- They did not. Jesus clearly says, I'm going to take it from you and give it to them, or they will do something with it.
- 20:11
- Now, I don't believe this is talking about ethnic national Israel in chapter 12, verse 1.
- 20:17
- I believe, and I have to be consistent, I've already taught the book. Anybody remember back when we did the 144 ,000 back in chapter 7?
- 20:31
- I guess it was. 2001. That would have been a long time ago. Yeah. So, what did I tell you?
- 20:36
- Remember, I wrote everybody's name down. She's got the transcript. I wrote everybody's name down, and how
- 20:42
- I understood it, there were some that were excluded and some not, and reason being, we could go through that, and at the end of the day, it's because 12 has a specific meaning, has to deal with the 12 tribes, with their distinction of their land and their boundaries, and I said that, believed that that represented true
- 20:59
- Israel. What does Romans say about Israel? Not all
- 21:06
- Israel's of Israel, isn't it? That everybody that was born ethnic
- 21:11
- Israel, are they going to enter the kingdom of heaven? No, and if anybody tells you that there's two ways of heaven, you can either believe in Jesus Christ or be born a
- 21:21
- Jew. That's heresy, damnable heresy. There is one way to the
- 21:26
- Father. It's through Jesus Christ. I don't care if you were born a Jew. I don't care if you've been circumcised, re -circumcised.
- 21:34
- It does not matter. It's neither bond nor free, nor Greek, nor Jew. It is now those who place faith in Christ, and you can go to Galatians, and what does
- 21:43
- Galatians say? Galatians says this, everybody that believes in Jesus Christ is now the seed of Abraham, and is now a recipient of all the gifts and promises that were given to Abraham.
- 21:57
- So, is there any reason to wait for God to come do something new, so that the
- 22:02
- Jews can be, now the Jews can have the Abrahamic promise? No, no, no, no, no. Once again, what does
- 22:09
- Romans say, chapter four and five? Romans chapter four and five says that Abraham wasn't about a piece of land in Palestine, it was
- 22:16
- Abraham was going to take up the whole world, and how was he going to do that? By the preaching of the gospel, and that the nations, all the nations would be blessed through him, therefore making
- 22:26
- Abraham a promise to the whole world, not that little old piece of land in Palestine.
- 22:32
- Look, the land in Palestine is irrelevant today, okay? It is, if anybody in here has ever been to the
- 22:42
- Middle East, or Israel, Jerusalem, dude, it's a secular state. You know they have abortion on demand over there?
- 22:49
- I don't want to get off on some tangent, but you know that? For something that's supposed to be so holy, a country that's supposed to be so good, on demand, and the government pays for the crushing of babies in the womb over there.
- 23:03
- All right, now, it says that this woman had a crown on her head, 12 stars, we believe to be representing the
- 23:15
- Stephanas, representing the 12 tribes of Israel, true Israel, the
- 23:20
- Israel of God. What is the Israel of God? Is it ethnic? No, it's everyone, that's it, and you're correct.
- 23:30
- How are they children of the promise? By believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, and putting all of your faith and trust, not in a system or something in the
- 23:38
- Old Testament, but putting it in the final revelation of who Jesus is, why he came, and knowing that he was the fulfillment of everything that the
- 23:46
- Old Testament talked about, and now that Jesus has come, forget about the old, okay?
- 23:54
- Is there, can we look at the Old Testament? Dude, I love the Old Testament, matter of fact, 80 to 90 % of what
- 23:59
- I've preached has come from the Old Testament, if you go back on Sermon Audio, but most every time that I've ever preached, I've preached up until Revelation has been through the
- 24:07
- Old Testament. I love the Old Testament, why? Because it points to Christ, it points to him, but once he comes, now we look back to the
- 24:17
- Old Testament and see how all of types and shadows and everything pointed to him.
- 24:23
- Now, I'm not saying that the Old Testament is irrelevant, I'm just saying it was preparatory, it was progressive in Revelation, but now that the new has come, we look at the old in light of the new.
- 24:37
- That's how we understand it, and what do we know about the New Testament? That the Israel of God is not about ethnic, it's about those who place faith in Jesus Christ, so I believe that this woman here is speaking of true
- 24:51
- Israel. Now, when we're fixing to get into the manger scene, and it gets a little more complicated, okay, so this woman, true
- 25:25
- Israel, okay, the true Israel, it says here in verse 2 that she was with child and she cried out being in labor and was about to give birth.
- 25:37
- Now, this child, okay, no doubt as we read it further, is going to be none other than the
- 25:46
- Lord Jesus Christ. You say, well then how can this woman be speaking of true
- 25:52
- Israel? Just hear me out. Even within Israel, like Paul already said in Romans, there's a
- 26:01
- Israel within Israel, Jesus would come through the line of true
- 26:09
- Israel. Jesus was not born to an apostate family, okay? Was Mary and Joseph just and holy before God?
- 26:20
- Sure, it says that Joseph was a just man, right? And what does it say about Mary?
- 26:27
- She was blessed, okay, sure. Were they without sin?
- 26:33
- No, but God looked upon them, declared them something, and then used them, one, as Mary being the mother of God, and some people don't like that term, but she was the carrier of the
- 26:46
- Son of God. Now, so she's about to give birth, and then here is the nativity scene, and like I've said before,
- 26:56
- I told Sybil, I would love to make a nativity scene of this where you would have Jesus in the manger, the magi obviously not being there, because they shouldn't be there, and then just have a dragon hanging over top of the manger, just ready, because that's the picture, okay?
- 27:13
- That is the picture. It says here, and then another sign appeared in heaven, and behold a great red dragon.
- 27:20
- This great red dragon, here's the description, seven heads, ten horns, and on his heads were seven diadems, and his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven, and threw them to the earth, and the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth, he might devour the child.
- 27:44
- Yes, sir? I just want to say, I think you just came up with next year's Christmas float. I'm just... That would be awesome, wouldn't it?
- 27:51
- We've already got one for this year. We're part of the parade. I'm digging it.
- 27:58
- Instead of having the little stable, the lean -to, you know, you always see the little lean -to with the shack lid, you know, hang it over and all the stuff around.
- 28:06
- The dragon, look, that is the description. The dragon is there, and it's waiting to devour the child.
- 28:14
- This dragon's got all, and we'll get into the seven heads and the ten horns, and you know, when
- 28:20
- I read that, and I go, okay, if it's got seven heads and ten horns, did one have three, and did one have five, and the other one had, you know, that's not the point, okay?
- 28:29
- We'll get into all that when we come to another section. I don't want to, I don't want to waste a bunch of time on that, so that we don't lose what this dragon's purpose was.
- 28:39
- This dragon sitting there, it's waiting for this woman who is about to give birth.
- 28:45
- True Israel would give birth to the Messiah in time. Remember, as we look through redemptive history, this is unfolding.
- 28:53
- It says that Jesus would come through the Messianic line. The Messianic line would be through the line of the tribe of Judah, which would be the kingly line of David.
- 29:04
- Why? Because he was going to be the long -lasting Davidic king that would sit on the throne forever and ever.
- 29:10
- He would be the little stone cut without hands in Daniel that would come, and he would roll, and he would shatter the colossus of all of the governments of the world, and then that would usher in the
- 29:23
- Messiah's kingdom. And that is what it, look, the Messianic kingdom comes into view in the stable when
- 29:32
- Jesus was born. And what was the devil? Well, we know that's who this is.
- 29:37
- What was he waiting to do? He was waiting to eat the child.
- 29:50
- Exercise on biblical theology. Anybody remember what biblical theology is?
- 29:59
- I just said it a second ago. It's the unfolding of God's plan through redemption, but if we put it linear.
- 30:06
- So if we put a line here, we can keep going.
- 30:11
- I probably have to if we start filling this up. That's not the
- 30:19
- Big Bang Theory, okay? This is letting there be light. Boom! Okay, there'll be light. You had a creation.
- 30:30
- After the creation, you had in the garden, we had the fall.
- 30:41
- Once Adam and Eve fell, what was the promise that came? The woman's seed,
- 30:51
- Genesis 3, 15. That was the promise.
- 30:57
- One day, this serpent, which beguiled you, one day, is going to come, and the seed of the woman will crush the head of the serpent.
- 31:09
- And as you do biblical theology, and there's all kinds of themes that you can do when you do your biblical theology.
- 31:15
- Remember, I said this before. There's all these themes, and then as you pick out your themes, that develops your systematic theology.
- 31:21
- I've put all of your categories in sections, but here, as we're following this out, there's going to be a serpent crusher, and it's going to come through the seed of a woman, not through the seed of a man, okay?
- 31:45
- Long -awaited promise that the woman will crush the head of the serpent. What happens in Genesis 4?
- 31:55
- That is true, and you're just a little bit ahead of me. I am going to, because that is important.
- 32:01
- You're right. You're right. Adam knows his wife, although I believe he knew her long before that, but he knows his wife.
- 32:10
- She conceives and has a child. That child, who is? First child?
- 32:17
- Cain. And she said, if you look in the Hebrew, and I think even in the Septuagint, it says,
- 32:24
- I have birthed a male child, the Lord. That's actually the construction. I think most of our translations, with help of the
- 32:31
- Lord, azer, the Hebrew word is not there in the Hebrew. That's the Hebrew word for help or helper.
- 32:37
- It's not there, but it is put in our English translations, probably in italics, if you looked in yours, Mike, and the italics is there to help us understand what's being conveyed.
- 32:48
- So, when she had Cain, she said, I've had the man, the Lord. I believe that she believed that was the serpent crusher, the seed of the...was
- 33:00
- it? Obviously not, because Adam knew his wife again. You had
- 33:07
- Cain and Abel. You have two people in the garden, or left the garden,
- 33:21
- I should say. You have two people that have now gone about doing their thing. One becomes righteous, the other unrighteous.
- 33:34
- Cain becomes...we actually hear, I think it's in Peter, he tells us he is just like the wicked one, the devil, so we know he murdered his brother.
- 33:43
- Remember why he murdered his brother? Because he was jealous that God looked at his offering that was done by faith, and God accepted that, so he kills
- 33:59
- Abel. That was the righteous line. Do you understand now the seed is in jeopardy?
- 34:06
- I believe when Keith thought through all of Genesis, you'll see the constant problem come through that as you go through redemptive history, the seed is in jeopardy.
- 34:17
- The seed is in jeopardy. Hey, he kills his brother Abel. He was the righteous line. The seed is now in jeopardy.
- 34:25
- Why? Because God condemned Cain to roam about the earth. He was condemned and he damned.
- 34:32
- Seed is in danger, but what does God do? He lets Eve do what? He concedes another, and who is he?
- 34:41
- Seth. Seth carries on that godly line, the damned line, or sons of God.
- 35:05
- I'm gonna put this here. Remember what happens in Genesis 6?
- 35:18
- The sons of God intermarried with the daughters of men, and what happens?
- 35:28
- Proliferation of the sinful acts of Cain take over the earth. Now, this is my understanding of the daughters of man and the sons of God, and I do believe you taught this the same way.
- 35:45
- These were not supposed to intermarry with them. Why? Because they were damned of God.
- 35:52
- They did not follow. They were not followers of God. All you have to do is go through chapter 5 and look at the begats.
- 35:58
- You even have a man named Lama who says, you think Cain was bad? Watch me. I'll kill two.
- 36:05
- That's basically, and I'll marry two. So we see by the intermarrying of this, what is now in jeopardy?
- 36:15
- The seed. It's really in jeopardy when God says, you know what? 120 years,
- 36:21
- I'm gonna drown the whole earth. So the seed was in jeopardy, but God, through Noah, found favor in God's eyes, and God says, all right
- 36:40
- Noah, check it out. I'm gonna save you and your family. Where the seed was in jeopardy, through Noah and his eight family members, the seed is saved.
- 36:57
- We could go on and on and on. We can go on all the way through.
- 37:04
- When you think the seed is, you get them where they go into the land of Egypt, and they're living there with Joseph and thinking that things are going to get better, and then what happens?
- 37:15
- They go into slavery for 430 years, right? And when you think it's over, where's the seed?
- 37:23
- God raises someone up. He raises up Moses. He raises up Moses to be a deliverer, but then as you go on into the land, and you see, okay, now the long awaited seed is going to come.
- 37:37
- We go through the time of the judges, and we go, oh wait a minute, we're seeing head -crushing, head -crushing episodes in the book of Judges, and every time we see a woman crushed the head of a man, what is that a reminder of?
- 37:56
- The garden. God's gonna crush the head of a servant of a woman. Remember Jael? She nailed it, buddy.
- 38:03
- Wham, right through his cranium, didn't she? What about the unknown woman who dropped the stone on Abimelech's head?
- 38:10
- Y 'all remember that story? Or no? Anybody? Anyway, read Judges. It's bloody, it's gory, it's awesome.
- 38:19
- Head -crushing. Anytime you see somebody's head get crushed, remember, that's just something pointing us back to here that God's going to send the head of the serpent crusher to cut off the head.
- 38:32
- Even think about David. David was through the line in which the
- 38:37
- Davidic king would come, right? What happens? You got this uncircumcised nine -foot tall dude calling everybody out.
- 38:45
- This little old itty -bitty teenage boy comes out and he says, hey man, you ain't gonna talk about my
- 38:50
- God nor my people like that. And what does he say he's gonna do? Check this out, dude. I know you big and I know you bad, but here's what's gonna happen.
- 38:57
- I'm going to take off your head with your own sword, and then
- 39:03
- I'm gonna let the birds of the air eat your flesh and the armies that are with you.
- 39:08
- As they go down into the valley, which the valley of death, that's actually what you have in that picture is two champions.
- 39:18
- Don't champion, not as in I'm the heavyweight champion of the world with the belt walking around or thrown over your shoulder.
- 39:24
- Champion in the Old Testament actually meant one that would stand between. Maybe you had two battling armies.
- 39:29
- Instead of having all the bloodshed and killing all of the people you want to be your subjects, what you would have is someone come and stand in your stead.
- 39:37
- You had the uncircumcised Philistine on one side, blasphemies or whatever for 40 days.
- 39:42
- Then he says, you sent somebody out here to fight me. And David says, I'm your huckleberry. So he walks down in there and he says, so now
- 39:50
- David's going to be the champion, the one in between, and the champion
- 39:55
- Goliath who's going to fight. And what does David do? He goes down in there and by all means and purposes, let's just be honest, it looks like this is going to be a slaughter on the bigger man.
- 40:06
- And what happens? The seed was in jeopardy and is saved. It's saved.
- 40:13
- Then you can go on through other times. You can go through the time of the
- 40:18
- Kings. I mean, remember the story of Athaliah? I've got to quit doing history lessons. We're running out of time.
- 40:25
- Remember Athaliah in Scripture? How about Ahab and Jezebel?
- 40:31
- Athaliah was her daughter. Okay, their daughter. But before you get to there, you add a man named
- 40:38
- Jehu, who God was going to make king over Israel. He goes, he then goes to Jezebel.
- 40:46
- He looks out the window. She says, hey, have you come in peace? Or something along that line. She's got all dudded up, thinking she's going to be enticing to him.
- 40:54
- She's gonna lure him in the same way she did Ahab. Okay, and he tells the two eunuchs up there, hey, you and me are her.
- 41:02
- What'd they do? They threw her off. She splattered on the ground. It says her blood splattered on the wall. What does he do?
- 41:08
- He goes upstairs and makes a meal. They just splattered this chick on the ground, guts everywhere.
- 41:16
- The dogs are eating her up. They come down, says, you know what? She was a king's daughter.
- 41:21
- We should probably bury her, give her a proper burial. The only thing left down there was the skulls and the palms of her hand.
- 41:28
- God then tells Jehu, the now king, he says, now you got to finish what was prophesied through the man of God, the prophet.
- 41:36
- You're gonna have to go out there, and you got to kill all his 70 descendants, and then after you kill them, you got to go find the 42 commanders and all of that, because they're gonna try to take the throne.
- 41:45
- So now you got to go clean that up. So what does he do? He goes out, he kills 70 of his sons, puts all their heads in a basket, sets them out there for all to see, goes kills the other one.
- 41:55
- In the meantime, he kills Joram, and he kills Ahaziah, who was the next king, supposedly, in line in Judah.
- 42:04
- So Athaliah usurps that. She's a chick. She usurps that for six years.
- 42:12
- She kills all of the royal seed, all of the royal seed.
- 42:18
- So that means everybody that was in David's line, what is she doing? She's trying to cut it off, and as you read through redemptive history, you're like, oh man, if you're reading it, get into the story.
- 42:31
- You're like, wait a minute, if the long -awaited Messiah is supposed to come through this line, it's in danger.
- 42:38
- Lo and behold, there's a young boy that's just been born, and they're gonna hide him away for six years until Jehoiada brings him out and says, this is the king, and at six years old, they crown him as king.
- 42:54
- They run through the city, let him know that he's the king, and he is installed at seven years old. They then,
- 43:00
- Jehoiada the priest then says, Joash is king. You go kill that wench, okay?
- 43:07
- You go kill her, and we're gonna cut it off. Seed was in danger, but what did God do? He always preserved the seed.
- 43:13
- He always preserved the seed, and you can just follow that all the way through redemptive history. It happens all of the time.
- 43:19
- All you have to do is just read through 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles.
- 43:25
- You can even get to the time. I gotta be quiet. We gotta go. Then you can even get to the time of Esther.
- 43:32
- Remember the story of Esther? Just to let you know, I'm thinking about teaching through Esther when we get done here in 2035.
- 43:44
- What happens in Esther? Because of the seed is in danger, because King Saul didn't do what
- 43:54
- God told him to do by killing all of the Amalekites. You remember that story? And some of those, they got away because he wanted the choice of everything.
- 44:02
- Some of them got away, and they ran off. He didn't kill all of the Amalekites, and Agag winds up being a descendant of Agag, which would be
- 44:12
- Haman. See how you follow this through the story? And as you follow through the story, now the seed is in danger.
- 44:19
- Why? What's Haman wanting to do? He's going to kill all the Jews, but you have this one girl who serenaded the king one night, and because she was brought in, and now we have the opportunity for her to be raised up for such as a time as this, to see to it that the seed would not be extinguished.
- 44:38
- You see how God even used wicked kings and immoral things for his purposes. So that is, and then you get to now to a baby in a manger, and who's waiting there wanting to kill the baby when it's born?
- 44:55
- Satan. But who can we look that Satan was using as a tool to do that? Herod. Herod waiting, and we know what
- 45:02
- Herod said. The Magi came, he said, you know what? And you would think, and as you're reading it, hey, here it is.
- 45:10
- This guy's really wanting to come worship the Messiah. Wait a minute. No, he's not. He's wanting to kill it, and then what does he do?
- 45:16
- He sends out, he kills every child two years and below in Bethlehem, which was a fulfillment.
- 45:23
- That would say that tears of Rachel would be in Ramah. God preserved his seed.
- 45:31
- How did he preserve the seed with protecting his own son? By giving Joseph a vision, a dream, saying, hey man, gather all your junk.
- 45:40
- These guys that just came gave you a bunch of cash. Now you can move. See how God providentially provided for his family and then gave
- 45:47
- Joseph and Mary the cash to get them to where? Go back to Egypt. Go back to Egypt.
- 45:54
- And he goes back to Egypt, and the Messianic Davidic line is saved again. That is where we're at here, is that this dragon is waiting for Christ to be born so that he can kill it.
- 46:10
- And we'll stop right there. We will pick up in part of verse 3, because we need to talk about the tales being swept away a third of the stars of heaven, and he throwing into the earth.
- 46:22
- We'll have to deal with all that, and then we'll get, we probably will get to the end of verse 6 next week.
- 46:29
- Maybe. Well, the tales of the fighting is often connected with Michael, so I mean we may have to go into verse 7 a little bit.
- 46:40
- So, Keith, seeing how you're visiting with us this morning, will you pray for us? Father in heaven,
- 46:46
- I thank you for the opportunity to be in the teaching of the Word. I thank you for Brother Mike and all his diligent preparation to teach the
- 46:52
- Word. I pray now that as we go into our time of worship, where we will sing, where we will give, where we will hear the
- 46:58
- Word again, and where we will participate in communion. Lord, that through all of that, we would draw close to you, that we would trust,
- 47:07
- Lord, that we are seeking to worship you in spirit and truth, and that you, O God, would receive our worship, and that you would be pleased.
