Hey guys, Colin here, and welcome back to Fight for Truth. In my last video, I mentioned that we need to hire someone to help out with creating and editing videos.
00:08
I simply told anyone interested to email me because I thought that only a few people would be interested.
00:13
But I could not have been more wrong. You guys are far and away the best audience on YouTube, and it's not even close.
00:20
We received well over 100 applicants in the first day alone. And thank you so much to everyone who sent me an email.
00:26
With that said, obviously we can't give over 100 people a job. So I wanted to create this follow -up video to help us narrow things down.
00:34
If you're still interested in joining Fight for Truth and helping me build this channel, please watch this video all the way to the end because I'm going to tell you exactly what we're looking for and how you can do it.
00:43
First, let me offer some detail on the things I actually need help with, practically speaking. Essentially, I need more time in my schedule to work on the creative process of making videos.
00:53
Right now, I'm doing everything myself, from research to writing to filming to editing to designing thumbnails, but this needs to change.
01:01
In order for me to post more videos to the channel, and in order for those videos to provide more value to the people watching, which is the entire goal of all of this,
01:09
I need to be able to focus on writing and filming as opposed to the other aspects of the creative process.
01:14
This is where you come in. I need one of you to help me find interesting video topics. From there, you'll need to assemble the clips for me to react to in the video and deliver a rough outline for me to use when structuring the video.
01:27
I will then write and film the video and send the raw footage to you. At that point, you will edit the footage and, if possible, create a thumbnail for it.
01:35
Using this method, I believe we can effectively double the amount of videos we post on this channel while at the same time maintaining and steadily improving the video quality.
01:44
As a result, I get more time in my schedule to make videos, and you get to provide value through doing quality work for a
01:51
Christian YouTube channel, and the audience gets to enjoy more solid content. It's a win -win -win. One of the mistakes
01:56
I made in my previous video was asking people to simply email me. In response, I received tons of emails from people promising me that they are quick learners and that they'll quickly get proficient at research, outlining, editing videos, etc.
02:10
The problem is that I have no way of verifying this. You could, indeed, be a fast learner, but there's no way that I can know that until I hire you, which is a pretty big problem because it's one of the biggest factors
02:20
I'm looking at before I hire you. So I've designed a new and updated application process that will demonstrate whether or not you're able to do the job well.
02:29
Here it is. I will give all of the interested applicants two full weeks from this coming Monday, the 17th of June, 2024, to send in their applications by the end of the day,
02:39
Monday, July 1st. In those two weeks, I want you to give me a sample of how you can help the channel with research, editing, or ideally, both.
02:48
Here's what that should look like. Number one. Within two weeks, send an email to fightfortruthmedia at gmail .com
02:54
with a little description of yourself and your theological background. I mentioned my theological background in a previous video, so go watch that before you send me a message.
03:03
If you've already sent me an application with all of this information, please feel free to copy and paste it. Number two.
03:08
In the same email, please provide me with a sample video that you have edited. I will link some raw footage in the description of this video which has not been edited.
03:17
I want all of the applicants to use this footage specifically so that we can keep things consistent.
03:23
The topic of the sample video is a progressive Christian female pastor who confidently says that the
03:29
Apostle Paul is a jerk. And my video is meant to react to this and refute it biblically. And in the description, the raw footage will also be accompanied by a link to the video clip that I'm reacting to.
03:40
In the footage of my reaction, I will have a frame that says, insert video clip here. That's where you should put in the clip of the female pastor talking.
03:48
A few features that this video should have. First, you will need to remove the background noise from the audio.
03:54
Second, you will need to cut out any repetitions or mistakes. On several occasions, I had to repeat a line because I got tongue -tied or made a mistake on the first attempt.
04:03
Please remove these mistakes and make the video as seamless as you can. Third, you'll need to ensure that the audio from both my reaction and the video clip are at similar levels.
04:13
Fourth, just as I do in all my videos, or at least almost all of them, please add pictures, graphics, and scripture quotations wherever you think they should be.
04:21
I will not be providing these, so you'll need to look them up online or design them and add them yourself. Also, just a recommendation.
04:28
Before you start getting fancy and adding all sorts of new features, make sure that you're capable of copying and mimicking my usual editing style.
04:36
Then you can add your own upgrades from there if you think they're necessary. But you don't have to reinvent the wheel on this first try.
04:42
Just do your best to imitate what we have. Fifth, if you feel inclined, you can always add some B -roll footage.
04:48
B -roll is a video or a clip that goes over the main action of the video or the A -roll.
04:54
For example, when a YouTuber is in their bedroom just talking to the camera, they might add some video clips related to what they're talking about to illustrate things a bit more.
05:02
So in this case, the A -roll would be me talking about progressive Christianity. And the B -roll might be a silent short clip of a progressive
05:09
Christian church, or a pride parade, etc. This B -roll is not required, but it's something you might consider adding if you have the time.
05:17
Now, your reaction to all of this might be, but Colin, I have absolutely no idea what any of this is, and I haven't got a clue how to do it.
05:25
And that's okay. Neither did I when I first got started. That's why I'm giving you two weeks to turn in your application.
05:30
And before you start, I'll let you in on a little secret. Every single video editing tip you could possibly think of has been posted by someone else on YouTube for free.
05:40
So if you want to learn how to do all of this, all you have to do is work hard, and use all of the free resources available to you, and do your research.
05:47
I don't expect the video to be professionally edited yet. It just needs to be done well enough to show me that you have potential.
05:54
You can use whatever video and audio software you want. Personally, I use the application called Audacity for audio and removing background noise, and I use an application called
06:03
DaVinci Resolve for my video editing. But you can use whatever you want. Number three. Another thing you'll need in your application email within two weeks is some sample research and outlining of a video.
06:14
First, you'll need to pick a video topic. And this can be any topic that you think would make a good fight for truth video.
06:20
Keep in mind that historically, our videos have been about either refuting unbiblical churches or refuting the secular culture, using popular recent examples.
06:29
I would recommend staying within this general mold. Second, you'll need to create an outline for your chosen topic.
06:35
A good outline should have about three sections. Section one is a quick general background. Who or what am
06:41
I reacting to, and what do we need to know about them before we start? Section two is the body of the outline.
06:47
In almost all of my videos, I react to several video clips. Your job will be to screen record those clips and put them in digestible links.
06:55
Usually that will be anything under a minute long. The goal is to only include interesting content that is being reacted to, and take out anything that's unnecessary.
07:04
For example, suppose we're making a video critiquing a sermon that's over an hour long. In that case, you have to be able to find several interesting clips from that sermon that are most important to offer context, and then offer a critique of.
07:17
Once you have these clips ready, I would recommend putting them all in a Word document or Google Doc in order.
07:23
I prefer Google Docs because it's easier to collaborate, but again, that's not required. These clips can be included in the form of a link, or in the form of a watchable video clip within the document itself, which is probably ideal, but again, not required.
07:36
From there, you'll want to put some bullet points under the clip, including a summary of the clip, and a few suggestions of what should be said in response to it.
07:44
By the way, I can also react to tweets, articles, etc. So feel free to add in quotes if you think there's anything relevant to react to there.
07:52
But the main goal is to make a reaction video. So make sure your outline is not just tweets or articles.
07:57
There needs to be video clips. Now once you have the main body of the outline ready, which should take the grand majority of the time, you can create section 3, which is for general notes and conclusions.
08:07
If there are any points that you missed in the body, but you believe are relevant, include them in this section, along with some concluding notes that describe the generally important themes and takeaways from the video.
08:18
For example, let's suppose you're making a video outline about something crazy that was said by a leftist politician.
08:24
You also might want to add, at the end, your concluding thoughts about this politician's character, and what their statements mean for the trajectory of the
08:32
United States as a whole. Just overall themes that you want explored. Keep in mind that the practical examples
08:38
I'm offering here are not meant to be used word for word in your outline to any extent. They're just examples to help you on your way.
08:45
Number four. Lastly, if you want to earn some bonus points, you can create a thumbnail for the video. This isn't mandatory, and you can use any photo editing software that you like.
08:54
Personally, I use Canva, but I know a lot of people use Photoshop. There are tons of tutorials online for how to create a
09:01
YouTube thumbnail. And please create the thumbnail in the typical style that we use for our videos. And if you have another style that you want to explore, you can send that in addition.
09:09
So this is the new application process. Via email, send a brief summary of you and your theological background along with your relevant experience.
09:18
This email should also include your sample video edit and your sample video outline. Yes, it is going to take some work, but ultimately you have to be willing to work hard in this role anyway.
09:27
I'm sure a lot of you are thinking, how am I supposed to know if I have any chance at getting this job? And what can
09:33
I do to actually boost my chances, practically speaking? Well, let me give you a cheat sheet. This is a direct list of the exact attributes and qualities that will make you the most likely to get this position.
09:43
Number one. The more theological views we share, the more united we will be. This will up your chances of getting the job.
09:50
But please be honest about where you are. If you agree with me in one area but not another, that's okay.
09:55
I'm not God, and you're allowed to disagree with me. If you're curious about what my theological beliefs are, go watch my previous video and check out the ministries linked in the description of this video.
10:06
Politically, it should come as no surprise that I'm extremely conservative, even among conservatives. So if you're a liberal -leaning
10:12
Christian who just thinks that we should all sing kumbaya and ignore all our differences, please don't send an email.
10:18
Number two. You have to be willing to work for an unorthodox paycheck. Many people assume that this channel, given its size, has tons of resources and the ability to instantly hire someone with a competitive full -time income.
10:30
This is not the case. As I mentioned in my last video, this platform has been stifling my views for many months now.
10:36
So here's how payment would work. If you're hired, you would take home a solid percentage of the revenue made by the channel on YouTube.
10:42
The exact percentage, and a ballpark of how much money that will be on average, will be given to you if you are offered the job.
10:49
The point here is that as the channel grows, so will your income, so you have to be committed to the project.
10:54
For now, just know that if you need this to be a full -time income to support your family immediately, this job is not for you.
11:00
If you're patient and diligent, on the other hand, and able to put in the work to build something great over time, then this job is definitely for you.
11:08
Number three. You have to be a giver, not a taker. If you're looking to get this job so that you can plug your own social media and get a bigger audience for yourself, then this is not for you.
11:18
If, on the other hand, you're looking to simply promote biblical truth and provide value to this channel and its audience, and get better at your craft along the way, then you are the perfect candidate.
11:28
Also, just to be clear, my goal is not to be immediately posting videos made by other people on this channel.
11:34
If the right candidate were to prove themselves for a very long time as a researcher and editor, then there would be a potential for them to be on camera at some point.
11:43
But it wouldn't be a guarantee, and it certainly wouldn't happen within the first year or two. You see, we live in an age when literally everyone and their mother wants to be famous on social media.
11:52
There are many people who simply want a handout where they can make videos for hundreds of thousands of subscribers without having to put in the hours and hours of work that every other
12:01
YouTuber, including me, has put in to get to that point. I can assure you that this will not be the case for this position.
12:08
Slow and steady wins the race. Number four. You have to do well on the sample video and outline that I mentioned before.
12:14
Obviously, this goes without saying. The people who do the best job on their video and outline will be at the top of the list.
12:20
But remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, especially if it's your first try. The point of the samples is to give you an opportunity to demonstrate that you're willing to work hard and learn new things, and do it as quickly as the
12:31
Lord allows you to with your skill set. Number five. You have to be able to put in some time. The whole point of this role is to alleviate the time constraints on my schedule that keep this channel from producing more content.
12:43
So if you have a grand total of 10 minutes at the end of your busy day to work on videos, I'm sorry, this is probably not for you.
12:49
However, you also don't have to be someone who doesn't have a full -time job. I myself have a full -time job in addition to this channel.
12:56
You just have to be willing to find time wherever you can. The more time you have to help, the more marketable you are, regardless of your skill level with video creation.
13:05
Number six. Play to your strengths. If you have loads of video editing experience, but you don't have any experience with outlining a video, let's say, or vice versa, that's okay.
13:15
Just tell me that in your email, and try to get better at the other task. If you have tons of time in your schedule to devote to the channel, but you're brand new to all the researching and editing, again, make sure you mention that in your email as well.
13:27
And work hard to develop those skills as soon as possible. If you have zero experience, I recommend you take the full two weeks to create your application.
13:36
Take your time, and do it as well as you can. Communicate openly, play to your strengths, and work on your weaknesses.
13:41
That's all I or anyone else can expect of you. Number seven. Location. This job is fully remote.
13:47
You can even live in another country, if need be. Please note that I myself live in West Texas in the
13:52
United States, and I'm on Central Time. So if you live close, or have the ability to travel here frequently, you might earn a few extra brownie points here and there, but it's ultimately one of the least important factors.
14:03
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at fightfortruthmedia at gmail .com. The link to the sample videos is in the description, and I look forward to hearing from you within two weeks.
