F4F | Terri Savelle Foy's Positive Affirmations to Change Your Attitude

Positive Affirmations as Word-of-Faith Self-Talk

Welcome to another installment of Fighting for the Faith here on YouTube. If you've ever been told that your positive affirmations, you know, you've got to engage in positive affirmative self-talk in order to achieve your dreams and your purpose and your density and stuff, yeah, go ahead and hit the subscribe button down below.

Don't forget to ring the bell. You've been taught false doctrine. This is a teaching that is rampant within the halls of those that have fallen victim to the word-of-faith heresy. Case in point, Terri Savelle Foy, the female version of Joel Osteen.

We're going to be watching part of her video on how positive affirmations can change your attitude, and we'll do a little comparative work between a creed that she's going to put forward for us that she thinks we need to be speaking to ourselves daily and, you know, an actual historic Christian creed, as well as what Paul warned and prophesied about in the last days, what will be rampant.

So grab some popcorn, maybe a Bible. I'll be putting things up on the screen anyway. But here's Terri Savelle Foy and positive affirmations to change your attitude. Yeah, here we go.

Hey, I'm Terri Savelle Foy, your cheerleader of dreams. Hey, one of my favorite quotes of all time is this, the secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.

Yeah, a secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine. Yeah, I think that's in the, you know, the Trump Proverbs. Yeah, that's a missing part of the Bible, the Trump Proverbs or something. Yeah, somebody forgot to put that in their Bible, but it, you know, it should be in there.

Yeah.

Well, when I changed my routine, it changed my whole life. One of the biggest keys I learned to change my routine was listening to faith building messages that pointed my life in the right direction. So I want to ask you to subscribe to this podcast so you get constant coaching to help you live your dreams.

In fact, I want to share with you my personal list of positive affirmations to help you have a positive attitude about your dreams.

Positive affirmations about positive attitudes. For, yeah, okay.

I'll show you how to access that list in just a minute, but first, today I want to teach you the importance of making positive affirmations to change your whole attitude. You know, what if I told you that.

What

Jesus Never Taught Positive Affirmations

Yeah, more Stuart Smalley here. Jesus didn't ever stand in front of a mirror and go, I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. No, he never did that. Yeah. I don't recall Jesus ever teaching his disciples the importance of positive affirmations, nor did he model this for us.

In fact, Moses didn't do this. None of the prophets did this. Jesus, none of the apostles either. This is weird stuff here.

Say to others, isn't nearly as important as what you say to yourself. It's true. See, how you talk to yourself will determine how positive you are and how successful you're going to be, period. Oh, yeah.

Okay. Bold statement full of truth, but think about it. Your personal affirmations can truly help you lose weight, get good grades, achieve

That's why I have such a hard time losing weight. I haven't done the positive affirmation step yet. What was I thinking?

Close sales, get along with family members. You can even win awards and even gold medals. In fact, I was reading an article by the Atlantic

I am not winning any gold medals. I mean, maybe if I switch careers now and dedicated myself to curling, you know, that Olympic sport. There's a curling facility not too far from my house here in North Dakota.

Yeah, I can join a curling club and positive self talk my way to an Olympic medal. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's not going to happen. And researchers interviewed 17 national champion figure skaters. Now, this was back in 1993 to discover their unique coping strategies for handling stress. Well, they discovered that 150

So we're going to base the disciplines on our life based upon competitive figure skaters, okay?

Unique strategies were practiced among them, but the most common used by 76 of the skaters was self-talk. Self-talk, your self-talk changes your attitude and

I mean, everybody knows how selfless and un-vain figure skaters can be. Is your outcome.

Now, you may have heard of Ruben Gonzalez. He agrees with this study and Oh, he does.

I'm glad Ruben agrees with the study. I mean, that study is golden now. It may as well be like one of the laws of science, you know, like the second law of thermodynamics. You know, Ruben's agreed with self-talk.

So therefore, it's got to be a law of nature or something here.

What he did was he took his personal list of positive affirmations with him all over the world. And daily, he gave himself these pep talks, helping him become, he said, resilient in the face of life's challenges.

Now, he called it the champion's creed. You may have heard of this. These affirmations helped him, he said, stay focused on his goals and become a three-time Olympic medalist.

Woo, yay, the champion's creed, so powerful.

Now, he believed that in order to start your day like a champion, you must fine tune your mindset. He recommended reading positive motivational statements, such as the champion's creed, out loud, first thing in the morning and before you go to bed.

And he said, read them with power and passion. Yeah, power and passion. Don't do a dry thing. No, eyeball to eyeball, in the mirror, he said. So let me just read the champion's creed to you by Ruben Gonzalez.

This is what he would say. I am a champion. I believe in myself. I have the will to win. I set high goals for myself.

The Nicene Creed and the Object of Faith

Okay, before I blow up. Okay, let's, slow down there, Terry, slow down. Yeah, I am a champion. I believe in myself. No, I don't believe in myself at all. In fact, no way am I going to believe in myself.

Yeah, I'm the problem. So let's just do a little comparative work, shall we, with like a historic creed. You know, like the Nicene Creed. Have you heard of this thing? You're thinking, what's the Nicene Creed?

Isn't that some old thing that Catholics use? Yeah, well, it predates Roman Catholicism. And if you were to read the writings of the early church fathers, I think of Irenaeus and his writing against the Gnostics.

So his writings against heresies. Irenaeus talked about this thing that he learned. And Irenaeus, by the way, was a disciple of a fellow by the name of Polycarp. Polycarp learned the Christian faith from the apostle John while John was in Ephesus.

So we're not very far removed from the apostles here, as far as that's concerned. And so Polycarp noted that as he was being taught the Christian faith, he was taught this thing called the rule of faith.

And it reads like a really unpolished version of the Nicene Creed. And then at the Council of Nicaea, it really gets polished up. But let's take a look at the Nicene Creed. I happen to have the Lutheran service book in Kindle format available to me.

So what we'll do is we'll whirl that up. We're in one of the divine services and notice it says Creed, right? Nicene Creed. Listen to this one. I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, light of light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father by whom all things were made.

And then notice this other part, who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary and was made man and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the scriptures, he ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian apostolic church.

I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Now you'll note then that I subscribe to this creed, by the way. I believe it to be true.

In other words, I believe in God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. I believe that God created everything that there is and that Jesus Christ was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary for my salvation, for your salvation and mine.

And so this is a synopsis, a summary statement of the entire Christian faith. If you were to take all of Christian doctrine and squish it down into a compressed file, you'd have something like the Nicene Creed.

You'll notice I don't believe in myself. Since I need a Savior for my salvation, I'm the problem. I'm part of the problem, and Jesus is the solution. You kind of get the idea here. So I'm not believing in myself.

I believe in God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, one God, three persons, and creator, redeemer, sanctifier, major blocks of what God the Trinity, the Holy Trinity does for us. And you'll note the object of my faith is not me.

The object of my faith is not myself. The object of my faith is the one true God and what he has done for me. All right? So that's kind of a comparative point. Now, coming back to Ruben Gonzalez's Champion's Creed, this might as well be the Narcissist Creed.

I am a champion. I believe in myself. I have the will to win. I set high goals for myself. Do you know what? That does remind me of another passage of Scripture. I'm going to do this on the fly. Hang on a second here.

I'm going to duplicate that tab because I don't want to lose that tab. I'm going to use that later. But is it Isaiah chapter 14? Isaiah chapter 14. I think this is the text. That's right. All right, let me get down to it.

Lucifer, Pride, and the Last Days

Yeah, here it is. Isaiah chapter 14, verse 12. Descriptive of none other than Lucifer himself, the devil. Here's what God says to the prophet Isaiah. Oh, how you have fallen from heaven, oh day star, son of the dawn.

How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid low the nations. You said in your heart, listen to this. I will ascend to heaven above the stars of God. I will set my throne on high and I will sit in the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the northern.

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds and I will make myself like the most high. Yes, I think you cannot possibly be more like the devil and Lucifer when it's all about I. Yeah, but God goes on and says, but you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.

Those who see you will stare at you and ponder over. Is this the one who made the earth tremble and shook kingdoms? Yeah, so you cannot possibly be more like the devil when it's all about I. Now consider this also, a little bit of a note.

The apostle Paul in 2 Timothy chapter 3 prophesies about the last days, which I think we find ourselves in now. Here's what Paul prophesies. Understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.

People will be, watch this, lovers of self, lovers of money, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but denying its power.

Sounds a lot like today here. People who in the name of Jesus are telling you to recite the champion's creed. Let me back up Terry just a little bit. Let's hear that again. Creed to you by Raymond Gonzalez.

This is what he would say.

I am a champion. I believe in myself. I have the will to win. I set high goals for myself. I'm surrounding myself with winners. I'm cool, positive and confident. Yeah, that's right.

All you losers. I'm not going to surround myself with all you losers out there. I'm only going to surround myself with winners. Does it get more narcissistic than this?

I'm willing to pay the price for success. I stay relaxed and in control at all times. I focus all my energy on the job at hand. I take responsibility for all of my results. I have the courage to endure and persist.

I vividly imagine what victory will feel like. Then he closed it with this. I am a champion and I will win.

Can I just ask the obvious question? And that is, if you taught this creed to every Olympian, you know, in fact, handed it out to all of the people coming to compete at the Summer Olympics or the Winter Olympics, just pick the venue.

You gave it out and every one of the Olympians said this. I am a champion and I will win. What percentage of them will win a gold medal? I love that. Don't you?

So imagine starting your day like that. Would it affect your attitude?

It will. And the thing is, yeah, it'll turn me into a narcissistic monster. It does. I'm living proof. So let me just say that was a fortuitous audio cut here. Yeah, she, she, she is a narcissist and she's living proof.

Moses, Destiny, and God’s Deliverance

Okay. How do you talk to yourself?

Do you talk to yourself? The answer is, of course you do. And perhaps you haven't voiced like the internal dialogue in your head, like I'm suggesting, but you do talk to yourself, whether you've realized it or not.

See, we all have that inner voice, the voice in your mind that happens without you even recognizing it. It's a running commentary that you have with yourself about yourself.

Yeah. It's best if I not let you know what the words are right now. In my running inner commentary, people's sanctifications could slip.

And it affects your attitude positively or negatively. In fact, I read where brain research has discovered that we send ourselves messages at a rate of nearly 500 words per minute. Now that's a lot of chatter going on on the inside that nobody even hears except you.

But here's the thing. It's not mindless chatter. See, it has a way of creating its own reality. And if you dwell on negative thoughts, it will produce a negative attitude.

Yeah. Yeah. So the negative self-talk create a negative attitude and then you'll have negative results in your life. Yeah. You want to be successful, right?

You got to learn how to be a narcissist. Yeah. It's going to stop you from reaching your dreams. In fact, your mind can literally talk yourself out of your destiny. Now, unfortunately, most of our internal conversation.

Isn't the whole point of a destiny that you kind of don't, you know, have a lot of choice on that kind of... In fact, let's take a look at, you know, if anyone wants to argue in the Bible, somebody who had a destiny, you know, a specific mission from God, it would have been Moses.

And so let me, I got to do this again. I'm going to create a duplicate tab here. And we're going to go over to Exodus chapter three. Exodus chapter three. Yes. Let's do a little bit of work here. Let's pay attention to Moses's words and his attitude and see if he was able to talk himself out of his destiny with his bad attitude.

So Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the angel of Yahweh appeared to him in a flame of fire out in the midst of a bush.

And he looked and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. So Moses said, I'll turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned. And when Yahweh saw that he turned aside to see God, God called to him out of the bush.

Moshe, Moses, he said, and he said, here I am. And then he said, do not come near. Take your sandals off your feet. The place on which you're standing is holy ground. And he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.

Moses hit his face for he was afraid to look at God. So then Yahweh said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt. And I've heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings.

And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a land, a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, the Balletites, the Uptites, and the Jebusites.

Yeah. So now behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come up to me. And I've also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come, I will send you to Pharaoh so that you may bring my people, the children of Israel out of Egypt.

But Moses said to God, who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt? And God said, but I will be with you. And this shall be the sign for you that I have sent you.

When you've brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain. Notice, first thing, Moses, who am I that I should do that? So then Moses said to God, well, if I come to the people of Israel and say to them, God of your fathers has sent me to them, and they ask me, what is his name?

What shall I say to them? God said to Moses, I am who I am. And he said, say this to the people of Israel. I am has sent me to you. God also said to Moses, say this to the people of Israel. Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob has sent me to you.

This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations. Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob has appeared to me saying, I have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt, and I promise that I will bring you out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey.

And they will listen to your voice. And you and the elders of Israel shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, the Lord, Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews has met with us, and now please let us go a three days journey into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to Yahweh our God.

But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless compelled by a mighty hand. So I will stretch out my hand, strike Egypt with all the wonders that I will do to it. And after that, he will let you go.

And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. And when you go, you shall not go empty. But each woman shall ask of her neighbor and any woman who lives in her house for silver and gold jewelry and clothing, and shall put them on your sons and on your daughters.

And you shall plunder the Egyptians. Sounds like a plan. Sounds like Moses has a destiny, right? But already he seems a little not too thrilled with the assignment. So Moses answered, behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice.

For they will say, Yahweh did not appear to you. And Yahweh said to him, well, what is that in your hand? And he said, well, it's a staff. He said, we'll throw it on the ground. So he threw it on the ground and it became a serpent.

And Moses ran from it. But Yahweh said to Moses, put out your hand and catch it by the tail. So he put out his hand and caught it. And it became a staff in his hand that they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob has appeared to you.

Again, Yahweh said to him, put your hand inside your cloak. And so he put his hand inside his cloak. And when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow. And then God said, put your hand back inside your cloak.

So he put his hand back inside his cloak and then he took it out. Behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh. If they will not believe you, God said, or listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign.

And if they do not believe even those two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the ground. And the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.

But Moses said to Yahweh, oh, oh, oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent either in the past or since. And and you've spoken to your servant, but I'm slow of speech and of tongue. And the Lord said to him, who has made man's mouth?

Who makes him mute or deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh? Now, therefore, go, I'll be with you. I'll be with your mouth and I'll teach you what you shall say. But he said, oh, my Lord, please send someone else.

Talk about a bad attitude. I mean, negative self-talk all up in here. What was Moses? He's about ready to talk himself out of his destiny. And you'll note that the remedy, if you read the rest of the chapters involved, the remedy had nothing to do with him learning how by the hand of God to stand in front of a mirror and say, I am a champion.

I am a pharaoh destroyer. I am the bringer of plagues. And I will bring the people of Israel out of slavery, out of being slaves and bring them to the land flowing with milk. And I know that's not the solution.

But you'll note if anyone could have talked himself out of his destiny, it would have been Moses. That's not how that went down. I wonder why. I mean, if what Terri Savelle Foy was teaching here was true biblical teaching, Christian doctrine that we are to embrace.

Yeah, then don't you think Moses would be a great example of learning how to engage in positive self-affirmation talk, you know? It's negative.

Self-Talk, Success, and the Myth of Positive Attitude

So if your inner conversation is hopeful, it's optimistic, it's uplifting, you will have a positive attitude and a positive life. So I want to help you use yourself. Yeah. Negative.

That negative attitude of, you know, it's funny. God fulfilled his promises, even though Moses was Mr. Negativity. Yeah.

To your advantage. You know, Mark Twain said, I'm always in conversation and sometimes other people are involved. I like that. Well, I heard an interesting story about this university professor who made a unique offer to his college students one day.

This is what he did. As he was getting ready to give them in their final exams, you know, for the semester, he was bragging on them, how proud he was of the class. And because they'd done so well that semester, he said, I want to offer you something special.

So what he said was anyone who wants to receive an automatic C grade on the test, raise your hand. He explained, he said, you're not going to be tested whatsoever. Just lift your hand. He said, no pressure, no failing grade.

You are going to pass with flying colors. Well, he said, one hand went up. They're looking around. Then another hand went up another hand. About half the class got up and walked out of the room. They were so relieved.

No stress, no worry, no failing grade. Then the professor went on to pass out the test to the other, you know, to the rest of the students. So he laid them face down on their desk and he asked them, he said, do not turn these over until I instruct you to do so.

Well, for the next several minutes, he encouraged them on how they were going to go far in life and how their positive attitude is going to take them great places in life. And he said, you know, you should always strive to do your best like you've done today.

Then he instructed them. Yeah, I gotta admit just the way the story is unfolding. If I were in that college classroom, I wouldn't have taken the C because I would have thought there's some kind of weird catch here.

I better just stay in my seat. I would have stayed in my seat just purely because I, I would have thought something's really weird up. My, my inner skeptic would have arisen up and said, don't you move.

Something's, something's off here, dude. Yeah. And I would have had a negative attitude for sure. Yeah.

Turn the test over and get started. Well, when they turn the pages over, it had only two sentences and this is what it said. Congratulations.

You just made an A. Think about that. Did they fire that professor for dereliction of duty? I'm just curious. I mean, so everybody passed the class. Nobody failed it. It sounds to me like this is just laziness on his part.

Yeah. Ones who stayed had a positive attitude and believed that they had what it took to get an A. Why settle for a C when you can get an A? In other words, why settle for mediocrity when God has amazing plans for your life?

He does?

Where does it say that? That God has amazing plans for my life? Yeah. I'm just not that special, lady. I think you get the point. So yeah, this isn't, this is not biblical teaching. This is not Christian doctrine.

This woman is teaching stuff. It's sketchy too in the example she's giving. You know, the dubious college professors who probably are not even doing their jobs right. And of course, then you got poor Moses.

I mean, talk about the epitome of a negative attitude and somehow he still fulfilled his destiny. How do you do that if what she was saying was true? The reality is, is what she's saying is not true. This is like a formula for narcissism.

You know, getting stuck on and thinking about and loving yourself in ways that scripture says are sinful and conceited and vainglorious. And you need to repent of it because Christ has bled and died for that satanic attitude.

I will ascend to the highest heaven. You'll note that Satan is not praised for his great affirmative affirmation self-talk. You know, no, it's the thing that actually brings him low. And as Jesus says, the one who exalts himself will be humbled.

The one who humbles himself will be exalted. Keep that in mind. Hope you found this helpful. If you did, please feel free to share the video. All the information on how you can share is down below as well as information on how you can support the ministry of Pirate Christian Media.

That's also down below in the description. So until next time, may God richly bless you in the grace and mercy won by Jesus Christ and his vicarious death on the cross for all of your sins. Amen.
