Father, thank you for this day where we've come to that time in our service where we opened the book to explain your word. Lord, I beg you to speak through me to your people,.

To use me this day to bring forth.

The magnificent works of your hand. And I pray this in the name of your beloved son, Jesus Christ, Jesus of Nazareth.

Amen.

Series Overview and the Mosaic Covenant in the Law of God

So we are in part seven of our series of Reformed Theology. And I told y 'all that we're coming from a particular Baptist perspective as we're walking through Reformed Theology. Our outline, like the overarching outline that we will be going through, is confessional, covenantal, which we're still in, Calvinistic, law and gospel distinctions, the ordinary means of grace.

And lastly, we'll look at the five solos of the Reformation. My overarching outline for covenantal is this, the covenant of redemption, which we looked at. We're walking through now the covenant of works.

And the goal is to get through to the covenant of grace. This week will be the sixth message that we have gone through, the covenant of works. And my outline is as follows. The Adamic covenant, which is the covenant that God made with Adam, the Abrahamic covenant, the covenant that God made with Abraham.

Today we'll look at the Mosaic covenant. And also we have the Davidic covenant. And our theme for today is the law of God. The Mosaic covenant is the law of God. And our timeless truth for this week is this, God's law, listen to me, God's law is, not was, not will be, is, present tense, still today, has always been holy, and it must be correctly taught.

It must be correctly taught. I'm reminded of a movie. Y 'all might have seen it, The Book of Eli. Or Denzel Washington is this blind man, and it's like this, the world has ended, and it's like this afterthought of the world's, and Denzel, as this blind man, has a Bible that he reads.

The enemies don't know that it's in Braille, that he's reading it, but he has a Bible, and the enemy wants nothing more than to get his hands on the Bible for one purpose, to control the people. To control the people.

When handling a firearm, one must be very careful. He must, he or she must know how to handle the weapon.

Right?

You don't want someone that don't know how to handle a firearm to hold a gun. When handling the word of God, the man of God must know how to wield the sword, must know how to rightly divide, to interpret scripture.

Many people will gather today under a minister who needs to step down from the pulpit and study their Bible. Abuse from the pulpit comes in many ways, two in particular, the preaching of a prosperity gospel, which I think every one of us have been victim to, sometime or another, and the preaching of a legalistic view of the law, which is what that enemy in that movie was trying to do.

Christ as the Fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets

Our text for today is found in Matthew chapter five, verses 17 through 20. Matthew, but before I read Matthew chapter five, 17 through 20, I want to read to you Matthew 17, one through eight, Matthew 17, one through eight.

And after six days, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, his brother, and he led them to a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.

And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, Lord,.

It is good that we are here.

If you wish, I will make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah. He was still speaking when behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And a voice from the cloud said, this is my beloved son, with whom I am well pleased.

Listen to him. When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus came and touched them saying, rise and have no fear. And when they lifted their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

In my sub point outline for today, we will see how Jesus is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets. We looked at the first one last week. He does this by fulfilling them. And today we'll go back and look at that one while also looking at point number two.

So I have four points. First one is by fulfilling them. The second point is by bringing judgment. The third point is by properly teaching them. And the fourth point will be by the righteousness of faith.

Now, if you will look with me at our main text,.

Matthew chapter five, verses 17 through 20.

Jesus speaking, do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth passes away, not an iota, not a dot will pass from the law until all is accomplished.

Therefore, whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Now, as we transition, I wanna take you to Moses. Moses is a representation of the law.

Jesus said that, John, in the gospel of John, says that the law came through Moses. Moses was given the two tablets of stone. The law came through Moses. Moses wrote the statues and the rules from the two tablets that were given to him.

The law came through Moses, but grace and truth comes through Jesus Christ. And Elijah is a representation of the prophets. And you have Jesus taking with him Peter, James, and John. They go up to the mountain, and then Jesus is transfigured.

His garments become white as light. Like something has taken place here. And Peter, how he always puts his foot in his mouth,.

He says, man, it's really good.

That we're here to sing this. If you will, we'll build tents for y 'all. And as he's speaking, the cloud that overshadows him speaks. So it's the father speaking about his son, telling them that this is his beloved son in whom he is more pleased, that they are to listen to him.

And in fear they fall, Jesus lifts them up, and who do they see? Do they see Moses, the law? Do they see Elijah, the prophet?

No, they see Jesus.

Moses spoke about this, that one was going to come like me from you.

Listen to him. Listen to him.

Listen to what he has to say. There's gonna be a time where there will be a passing of a baton. Picture the baton, the race is being ran. There's a moment where the baton is passed. And this is what's taking place when Jesus comes upon the earth.

That the Jews are no longer to live by the letter of the law, Moses and the prophets, but they are to live by what Christ Jesus says. And what does he do? He lifts the law and the prophets up. He doesn't destroy them, but he properly teaches them.

Because people have mishandled the word of God. Listen to him. Listen to Jesus Christ. Hebrews chapter one talks about that God the Father used to speak to our fathers through the prophets, but in these last days, he has spoken to us by his son,.

Jesus Christ.

Jesus is not going to go against what the law and the prophets have revealed.

Right?

He's not gonna go against what they have revealed. What is he gonna do? He's gonna properly teach them. Our first point, by fulfilling them. By fulfilling them. Look at verse 17. Do not think that I have come to abolish them.

Do not think that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets. Notice it's the law and the prophets, not just the law, not just the prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. The law of God.

The law of God is also known as the Mosaic law. The two here are synonymous. The law of God was delivered to Moses on Mount Sinai in the form of the 10 commandments. Right? No argument. We all agree. Moses wrote the statutes and rules, and the people of Israel confirmed the covenant by claiming, claiming only, because we know they didn't, they claimed that they would keep them.

The law was for a particular people, Israel, to keep in the land of Canaan. Now last week we read a lot in Deuteronomy to prove this point. Today I just want to look at three verses. Deuteronomy chapter four, verse five.

Just look at four, verse five, and then we'll look at verses 13 and 14. Verse five of Deuteronomy chapter four. See, I have taught you the statutes and rules as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession.

Verse 13, and he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded to you to perform, that is the 10 commandments. And he wrote them on two tablets of stone. And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you the statutes and rules that you might do them in the land that you are going over to possess.

And then I also pointed out last week that during their time that they were in, whenever they left Egypt, that all the males were circumcised, but during the time in the wilderness they were not circumcised.

They were not circumcised until they entered the land of Canaan, where they were to keep the rules and the statutes. When we look at our third point, so that'll be next week, when we look at our third point, we will look at the proper way of teaching this.

So today, my point is not to tell you the proper way of teaching the law. That's not my point for today. That's next week. So please be back next week. If you wanna know the proper way of how the reformed have always taught through the law.

Right now, if you have a 1689, I wanna look at chapter 19, paragraphs two through four. I had planned to do this last week, but I ran out of time. So we'll do that today. Chapter 19 is the chapter on the law of God.

Paragraph two, hearts contained to be the perfect rule of righteousness after the fall. It was delivered by God on Mount Sinai in the 10 commandments. And was written in two tablets. The first four commandments contained our duty to God.

And the other six, our duty to humanity. So it's my conviction that the first four points to loving God. And this is where we'll get the ceremonial laws from. The final six will be our duty to neighbors.

This is where you'll get the judicial laws from. So these are statutes and rules that come from each tablet. Paragraph three, in addition to this law, usually called the moral law, God was pleased to give the people of Israel ceremonial laws containing several typological ordinances.

In some ways, these concerned worship by prefiguring Christ, his grace, actions, sufferings, and benefits. In other ways, they revealed various instructions about moral duties. Since all of these ceremonial laws were appointed only, listen, only until the new order arrived, which is Christ, the new covenant, they were abolished, taken away by Jesus Christ as the true Messiah and only lawgiver.

He was empowered by the Father to do this. So the ceremonial laws, statutes, and rules. So when you read the ceremonial laws, think statutes and rules. God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, chapter 20, chapters 21 through 23 of Exodus.

We have Moses writing out the statutes and rules. Paragraph four, to Israel, he also gave various judicial laws, statutes and rules, which ceased at the same time that their nation ended, 70 AD. 70 AD, which ceased, these judicial laws ceased These laws no longer obligate anyone as part of the institution, only their general principles.

Next week is when we'll look at general principles. Only their general principles of justice continue to have moral value. You cannot be, for the reestablishment of the Mosaic covenant, and also be a confessional 1689 or a confessional 1646.

For those of you that don't know, that's Presbyterianism, that's the Westminster form, and also the London Baptist Confession of Faith. Both of them say the same things. Now, I'm not saying that the law of God, the moral law is not written in our hearts.

I am saying these statutes and rules that were given to Israel at that time are not for us today. We have grace. If you break one of these moral laws, we do not strap you down with an ax and stone you.

Now, would we be just to do so? Yes, God's law is just, but through Christ, he has given to us mercy. He has given to us mercy, and we'll get more into that in the weeks ahead. But as we transition, we saw last week that Jesus fulfilled the prophets, how?

By entering the world as the prophets had prophesied during the time of Jerusalem's visitation. This would be what the Bible calls the day of the Lord. He fulfills the law by, how? Obeying the law. He lived the life we could not live.

Jesus Christ kept the law. He loved God, and he loved neighbor. You and I could not love God and neighbor.

The way his children loved him.

That's what the scripture commands us. Jesus Christ did that in our place. And even though he did that, he was treated as if he lived my life. This is where the gospel comes in. To deny this is to deny the gospel.

Jesus Christ lived the life we could not live, and because we could not live that, he died the death that we deserve to die. He fulfilled the law by living the life we could not live, and he fulfilled the prophets because they prophesied about that single event.

All through scripture.

The Law Will Not Pass Away Until All Is Accomplished

Point number two, by bringing judgment. Matthew 5, verse 18. For truly I say to you, unless heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass away from the law until all is accomplished. First, I want to look at the word accomplished.

The Greek word here is gegomai, gegomai. It means to become. Other ways of translating it would be to come into existence, begin to be, to come to pass, to rise, to appear in history, to come upon a stage, to be made.

To finish, or finished. The complete Jewish Bible says it like this. Not until everything that must happen has happened. Not until everything that must happen has happened, for truly I say to you, until heaven and earth passes away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass away until everything that must happen has happened.

Until it is accomplished. This points us back to verse 17, where it talks about fulfillment. Jesus has come to fulfill the Torah. In the Jewish Bible, it does not say law and prophets. It says Torah, because to them, the law and the prophets is the Torah, right?

Jesus came to fulfill the Torah. What it spoke about him, what it said that he would do, Jesus Christ came to fulfill that. He is the fulfillment of the Torah. Now, remember the two things that the prophets were, remember the two things that the prophets prophesied.

One, the coming of the Messiah. These are the main two things that the prophets did. They prophesied about the coming of the Messiah, and they prophesied judgment on Jerusalem. Let's look at verse 18 again.

For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth passes away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass away from the law until all is accomplished, until everything that is supposed to happen happens. Now, we come to where it talks about heaven and earth.

We have to ask ourselves, as in, you know, we're looking in the scriptures, we want to be rightful whenever we interpret this. We, you know, as I'm looking through this, I'm thinking, is this literal, or is this figurative?

When it says heaven and earth must pass away, is this speaking literally, or is it figurative? I'm going to give you three interpretations of how this can be interpreted. Now, I believe that my second interpretation and the third interpretation go together.

These are the three ways it can be interpreted. Heaven and earth, I mean, heaven, excuse me, heaven meaning the expanse of the sky. So it's not saying where God is dwelling. It's just speaking of the expanse of our sky.

And earth meaning the ground. The earth as a place to stand. So basically, the world. Until the world passes away. So let's look at it in that, so it says, for truly I say to you, until the world ends, not an iota, not a dot shall pass away from the law until all is accomplished.

Does that sound correct? No, that doesn't make any sense, right? Until the world ends, it doesn't make any sense. So I look at that and I think, well, I don't personally think it's speaking literally.

So the next interpretation is heaven and earth means the Jewish temple. The Jewish temple was a place where heaven and earth met. You had the Jewish temple, which was on earth, that held the spirit of God.

The Shekinah of glory, as the Pentecostals say, was in the holy of holies, right? And the priests would come and they would make sacrifice at the temple to God. And we know that in 70 AD, that temple was destroyed.

Then there's a third interpretation. This is the one that I, of course I agree with part two, but only combined with part three. That heaven and earth in this passage means Jerusalem. Now follow me here.

Turn to Galatians chapter four. Galatians chapter four. Look at verse 21. We're gonna look at 21 through 31. I will give a brief interpretation as I go through here only because I can't help it, right?

Like I just can't control myself. So, sorry. But you can look there with me so you can see where I step in and where the Bible, where I add to it. Paul's speaking to the Galatians who are Gentiles. Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law?

So we have the Judaizers, they came in and they're trying to turn Gentiles into Jews. Paul said, well, they're adding to the gospel. And these Gentiles want to become Jews. They want to become Jewish.

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law? For it is written, Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and the other by a free woman. But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh while the son of the free woman was born according to the promise.

Now this may be interpreted allegorically. These two women are two covenants. One from Mount Sinai bearing children of slavery. She is Hagar. Now, this is speaking about the physical descendants of the Jews, the physical descendants of Abraham.

Paul is saying that their mother is Hagar. He said, man, you're not from Isaac, you're from Ishmael. Listen, this would have been the worst thing you could call a Jew. There's nothing worse you could have called a Jew at that time, an Ishmaelite.

Paul's digging in the dagger. Now, Hagar is Mount Sinai. This is where God gave the 10 commandments, Mount Sinai. In Arabia, she corresponds to present Jerusalem for she is in slavery with her children, the physical descendants of Abraham.

But the Jerusalem above is free. She is our mother. For it is written, rejoice, O barren one who does not bear. Break forth and cry out loud, you who are not in labor, for the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.

Verse 28. Now you brothers like Isaac. Listen, he's speaking to Gentiles.

He's speaking to Gentiles.

Now you, the Galatians, Gentiles, brothers like Isaac are children of promise because they believe by faith. But just at that time, he who was born according to the flesh, the Jews, are persecuting he who was born according to the spirits, the Gentiles, so also is now.

But what does the scripture say? Cast out the slave woman and her son. For the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman. Do you hear that? You hear what he's saying about the Jewish people who have not followed their Messiah?

Their Messiah has come and instead of leaving the sacrificial system, they dance around it as if it was a goading calf. They were supposed to leave the system and listen to Jesus whom God the Father is well-pleased with.

But no, they want to dance around their sacrificial system. And then you have these Gentiles who are dropping everything to follow Christ. And he's saying, you are the children of Abraham. You are the Jerusalem above.

He says, so brothers, we are not children of the slave, but we are children of the free woman, Sarah. Turn to Revelation chapter 11. Revelation chapter 11, the context is in the two witnesses. You prophesy at the temple and we won't go into all that right now.

If y 'all wanna ask questions at lunch, I'll be free to talk about it. But let's look at verse, let's start, it's verse eight, but I'm gonna start with verse seven. So speaking of the two prophets, and when they had finished their testimony, the beast that rises out of the bottomless pit will come and make war on them and conquer them and kill them.

And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that is symbolic, it's called Sodom and Egypt, where, this is key right here, where their Lord was crucified. So where was Jesus crucified?

Jerusalem.

So here, the great city is Jerusalem. Now what I did years ago, is I walked through Revelation and I just wrote down everything that sounded weird. So needless to say, it was almost a book, okay? And so I come to this word, great city, and I traced it down.

Now, my wife told me not to read all of this to you, so I'm just gonna give you a summation. So a summation of Revelation chapter 11 and Revelation chapter 18. I had planned just to read straight through it.

I was like, you know what? They're reformed, they'll be okay. And if it lasts an hour, then hallelujah, hallaback. I'll take off running afterwards and it is what it is. But to give you a summation, and please, please, please, sometime this week, read, don't take my word for it, read and follow what I'm saying.

Revelation chapter 11 and 18, we have what appears to be called the great prostitute, which is the woman in the wilderness, which from Revelation chapter 12 is Israel. So you have this woman who's clothed in the sun, she stands on the moon and she has a crown of 12 stars on her head and it says that she is pregnant.

Joseph gives a dream that he has in Genesis and in this dream, he says that he see, in this dream, there's the sun, moon and stars are bowing down to him. And Jacob, his father says, so you mean me, your mother and your brothers are gonna bow down to you?

Jacob interpreted Joseph's dream as him being the sun, his wife, Rachel, being the moon and his brothers being the stars. And so in, remember the Genesis 3 .15, it talks about that there would be an offspring come from the woman who would bruise the head of the serpent while only bruising his heel.

And this offspring's traced to Abraham all the way to Davenk. And here comes Jesus Christ. And so what I see in Revelation 12 is speaking about Jesus Christ coming from Israel, that this woman is a picture of Israel, she's clothed in the sun, she's clothed in Jacob,.

She stands on Rachel.

And she has the tribes of Israel on her head and she gives birth to a male child. And the Bible says that God had a place prepared for her in the wilderness. And the next time you see this woman that's in the wilderness, she is a mother of prostitutes.

She has the mystery of Babylon, she has mystery Babylon the great written on her forehead. She is the great city. She's Jerusalem. And on her is found the blood of the prophets and the saints. Matthew 23, Jesus calls Jerusalem, he says, you have murdered the prophets and you will murder the saints.

Speaking to the Pharisees in Jerusalem. These two chapters, we see that it's a picture of Jerusalem that she is judged and she is removed from the earth. The Bible says that there will never be a light shining in her again.

It will never be a light shining in her again. Speaking about that covenant, that old covenant that God had with Jerusalem. But you just, you keep reading and then you come to chapter 21. And chapter 21 verses one through three says this, then I saw a new heaven and a new earth.

Listen, for the first heaven and the first earth.

Had passed away.

Now real quick, let's go back and look at her text. Verse 18 of Matthew chapter five. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot will pass away until all is accomplished.

Revelation chapter 21 verse one. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. This is speaking about the new covenant, the present day Jerusalem.

The bride of Christ for the first heaven.

And the first earth had passed away and there was no more sea in them. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And what is the church?

The bride of Christ.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, behold, the dwelling place of God is written, is with, excuse me, is with man. And he will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will be with them as their God.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you have received Christ by faith, you have the Holy Spirit, you have God the Holy Spirit dwelling in you. The Old Testament tells us that God dwelled in tents and tabernacles and temples.

The temple has been removed. There's no longer a temple. God now dwells in his people. We are the new heaven and the new earth.

It's the church.

The first one has passed away. The old covenant system has passed away. So my interpretation is both literal and figuratively. Figuratively, heaven and earth represent Jerusalem along with this temple and it was literally destroyed in 70 AD.

I know that's kind of like a whole lot coming at you. And I do apologize. It's been really hard. I was speaking to a pastor friend the other day. It's been really hard going through this series because there's not just like, you know, five commentaries that I can read to kind of, yeah, like it's just, I'm having to overload myself with multiple things and then trying to do my best within the time limit that I have to articulate it to you.

And so it's been really tough. So I would appreciate your prayers in the weeks ahead. Right now, I wanna talk about our theonomic friends, those who would say that the judicial laws of Israel have not been abrogated, that they still apply for us today.

And I told y 'all last week that this group of people, they're called theonomist and that most of my friends on Facebook are in fact theonomist. As a matter of fact, at one time, I would have said that I was a theonomist.

Pastor Cal would have said that he was a theonomist because we love the law of God. We believe that it's for us today, but we don't believe that the Mosaic Covenant is for us today. And we have to be real consistent when we speak about the law of God and about this term theonomy because if you trace it back, it traces back to, I think it's R .J. Rush Dooney, and that's exactly what he's preaching.

And we fall back under the Mosaic Covenant. Ladies and gentlemen, that is, in my opinion, heresy. They would point out these two verses in Matthew 5, 17 through 18. I'm gonna read them again. Do not think that I have come to abolish the law of the prophets.

I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth passes away, not an iota, not a dot will pass away from the law until all is accomplished. Jesus did not come to abolish the law.

That's what they say. I'm like, hey, hallelujah, it says in the Bible. He did not come to abolish the law of the prophets. Not an iota, not a dot, and yet in the same sentence, they will tell you that the ceremonial laws of Israel have been done away with.

They say, look, God has not come to abolish the law. He has come to fulfill them. They're still, we still have to keep them today, and as they're speaking this, they'll say, but the ceremonial laws have.

Ladies and gentlemen, the ceremonial laws are more than an iota, and it's more than a dot. If we're gonna be consistent, we have to be consistent. If you tell me that the judicial law is still for us today, but then you wanna remove the ceremonial laws, but then point me back to this verse, and any verse in the Bible, and tell me that it's binding on me today, that is false information.

That's nonsense. It's the ceremonial laws are not for today. Neither is the judicial law binding on us, because we do not live in the land of Palestine. We do not live in Canaan. We do not live in Jerusalem.

I just wanna be accurate when I teach this. I have to one day face God on this, and that's where I was, I came to my fellow pastor, Cal, and was like, convicted, convicted. Through preaching through Galatians, it convicted me.

Galatians says that that law was until Christ came. Christ came, that law is no longer abrogated to us, but what did he do? He put that law in our hearts. He lifted it up. No longer do we have to find scrolls, or we have to find these tablets of stone.

They're in us. You don't need me to tell you when you sin. No, when you sin, listen, if you need a pastor, a minister to tell you when you mess up, then you need the Holy Spirit. You need to receive Christ by faith.

We don't need the law to tell us that. The written law, the letter of the law,.

We have it in our heart.

It convicts us the moment we do these evil things. And listen, we better be grateful that we're not under the Mosaic covenant, but we're under grace, that we're under the new covenant. Because oh, I would not be standing before you today.

I would have done been dead. They would have done killed me, and you as well. But we have all fallen short of God's glory. We have all fallen short. Now, I would say in a legalistic way of teaching this, they, at this point, let me re-read that.

In a legalistic way of teaching this, they would point to the word fulfill in verse 17. That he did not come to abolish them, but he came to fulfill them. But what they would say is that the word fulfill here is saying that he came to establish the law.

So I would say that through his keeping the covenant, his keeping the law, and through, well, I would say through him coming as the prophets prophesied and him living the life we could not live, he kept that law.

They would say that this is speaking about him coming to establish that law. But the law is already established. And the next week, we will look at that point. The next week, we'll look more at that point.

That'll be our point number three. We'll look at how do you properly teach that law. If y 'all would give me another hour, we can do it today. But right now, we're just gonna. Next week, we'll look at how you properly teach the law that is written in your heart.

We'll dive deep into that. And in doing so, we'll look at what the Reform Note called the three uses of the law. And I wanna close with this. My closing statement's called A Plead for Postmillennialism Through the Work of Christ.

As some of y 'all well know, I do not hide it. I am a postmillennialist. I believe that God is going to fulfill what Christ spoke. About the Great Commission. That the world will be discipled, baptized, and they will all be taught.

I don't believe it's now. It could be thousands of years in the future. But I believe in the postmillennial hope. I do not believe it's gonna happen by my hand or by any human hand. I believe that it takes place because of what Christ Jesus has already done.

Y 'all have heard me say this before, that God the Father created the world through his son, Jesus Christ. John chapter one, Colossians chapter one. And right now, he has been, ever since the fall of Adam, ever since the fall of Adam, he has been recreating the world through the message of his son.

The message of the offspring that would come from the woman who finally came as the son of David in first century Jerusalem. And then everyone who has ever been saved, who have been rescued from this flesh, it's been because of Christ Jesus, believing in Christ.

The same way that Abraham was saved, it's the same way that you're saved today. Believing in Christ. Now I wanna read to you what really challenged me in trusting in the work of Christ in the post-millennial hope.

And it's Hebrews chapter two, beginning in verse five. Hebrews chapter two, beginning in verse five. For it was not to angels that God subjected the world. The word subjected is the Greek word hypotasso.

It means to subdue. It was not to angels that God subdued the world to come, of which we are speaking. It has been testified somewhere, what is man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him.

You made him for a little while lower than the angels, you crowned him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection, hypotasso, under his feet. So this is saying that he's putting everything in subjection under his feet.

Now, in putting everything in subjection, hypotasso, subdue, control unto him, he left nothing, absolutely nothing outside of his control. At present, listen, this is where we're at right now. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him, but we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus.

Speaking of his hypostatic union, and crowned with glory and honor because of his suffering death, so that by the grace of God, he might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting that he for whom and by whom all things exist in bringing many sons to glory should make the founder of their salvation perfect.
