- 00:08
- Let's pray Father thank you for this day
- 00:17
- Where we've come to that time in our service where we open the book to explain your word
- 00:26
- Lord I beg you To speak through me to your people
- 00:34
- To use me this day to bring forth the magnificent works of your hand and I pray this
- 00:47
- In the name of your beloved son, Jesus Christ Jesus of Nazareth Amen, so we are in part seven of our series of Reformed Theology And I told y 'all that we're coming from a particular
- 01:09
- Baptist perspective as we're walking through Reformed Theology our outline
- 01:18
- Like the overarching outline that we will be going through Is confessional?
- 01:25
- Covenantal which we're still in Calvinistic law and gospel distinctions the ordinary means of grace
- 01:33
- And lastly, we'll look at the five solos of the Reformation my overarching
- 01:43
- Outline for covenantal is this The covenant of redemption which we looked at we're walking through now the covenant of works and The goal is to get through to the covenants of grace this week will be the sixth message that we have gone through the covenants of works and My outline is as follows
- 02:11
- The Adamic Covenant Which is the covenant that God made with Adam the
- 02:16
- Abrahamic Covenant the covenant that God made with Abraham today, we'll look at the Mosaic Covenant and Also, we have the
- 02:25
- Davidic Covenant And our theme for today is the law of God The Mosaic Covenant is the law of God and our timeless truth for this week is this
- 02:38
- God's law listen to me God's law is not was not will be is
- 02:46
- Present tense still today has always been Holy and it must be correctly taught
- 02:56
- It must be correctly taught I'm reminded of a movie
- 03:03
- Y 'all might have seen it the book of Eli Or Denzel Washington is this blind man.
- 03:10
- It's like this The world has ended and you know, it's like this afterthought of the world's in this and Denzel as as this blind man has a
- 03:23
- Bible that he reads The enemies don't know that it's been
- 03:28
- Braille that he's reading it But he has a Bible and the enemy wants nothing more than to get his hands on the
- 03:35
- Bible For one purpose to control the people to control the people when handling a firearm one must be very careful
- 03:47
- He must he or she must know how to handle the weapon Right, you don't want someone that don't know how to handle a firearm to hold a gun
- 04:00
- When handling the Word of God the man of God must know how to wield the sword
- 04:08
- Must know how to rightly divide to interpret Scripture Many people will gather today under a minister who needs to step down from the pulpit and study their
- 04:22
- Bible Abuse from the pulpit comes in many ways to in particular
- 04:29
- The preaching of a prosperity gospel Which I think every one of us have been victim to Sometime or another and the preaching of a legalistic view of the law which is what that Enemy in that movie was trying to do our text for today is found in Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 through 20
- 04:57
- Matthew but before I read Matthew Chapter 5 17 through 20.
- 05:03
- I want to read to you Matthew 17 1 through 8 Matthew 17 1 through 8 and after six days
- 05:24
- Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother and he led them to a high mountain by themselves and He was transfigured before them and his face shone like the
- 05:40
- Sun and his clothes became white as light and Behold there appeared to them
- 05:51
- Moses and Elijah talking with him and Peter said to Jesus Lord, it is good that we are here if you wish
- 06:03
- I will make three tents one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah he was still speaking when behold a bright cloud overshadowed them and A voice from the clouds said this is my beloved son
- 06:26
- With whom I am well, please listen to him
- 06:35
- When the disciples heard this they fell on their faces and were terrified
- 06:43
- But Jesus came and touched them saying rise and have no fear and when they lifted their eyes
- 06:53
- They saw no one But Jesus only
- 07:01
- In my sub point outline for today We will see how Jesus is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets
- 07:12
- We looked at the first one last week He does this by fulfilling them and today we'll go back and look at that one while also looking at point number two
- 07:22
- So I have four points. First one is by fulfilling them. The second point is by bringing judgment
- 07:29
- The third point is by properly teaching them and the fourth point will be by the righteousness of faith
- 07:40
- Now if you will look with me at our main text Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 through 20
- 08:01
- Jesus speaking do not think That I have come to abolish the law or the prophets
- 08:09
- I Have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them
- 08:15
- For truly I say to you until heaven and earth passes away Not an iota
- 08:20
- Not a dot will pass from the law until all is accomplished
- 08:28
- Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same
- 08:34
- Will be called least in the kingdom of heaven But whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven
- 08:42
- For I tell you unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees You will never enter the kingdom of heaven now as we transition.
- 08:55
- I want to take you to Moses Moses is a Representation of the law
- 09:01
- Jesus said that John and the gospel of John says that the law came through Moses Moses was given the two tablets of stone the law came through Moses Moses wrote the
- 09:15
- The statues and the rules from the two tablets that were given to him the law came through Moses, but grace and truth comes through Jesus Christ and Elijah is a representation of the prophets
- 09:35
- And you have Jesus taken with him Peter James and John they go up to the mountain and Then Jesus is transfigured his his garments become white as light
- 09:51
- Like something has taken place here and Peter how he always puts his foot in his mouth
- 09:59
- He says man, it's really good that we're here to seeing this if you will we'll build tents for y 'all
- 10:05
- And as he's speaking he he the cloud that overshadows him speaks So it's a father speaking about his son
- 10:12
- So telling them to that this is his beloved son in whom he is well That they are to listen to him and In fear they fall
- 10:22
- Jesus lifts him up and who do they see do they see Moses the law? Do they see?
- 10:28
- Elijah the prophets No, they see Jesus Moses spoke about this that one was going to come like me from you listen to him
- 10:41
- Listen to him listen to what he has to say There's gonna be there's gonna be a time where there will be a passing of a baton
- 10:51
- Picture the baton the race is being ran. There's a moment where the baton is passed
- 10:58
- And this is what's taking place when Jesus comes upon the earth But the
- 11:03
- Jews are no longer To live by the letter of the law Moses and the prophets, but they are to live by what
- 11:13
- Christ Jesus says And what does he do? He lifts the moment the law and the prophets up He doesn't destroy them, but he properly teaches them
- 11:26
- Because people have mishandled the Word of God Listen to him listen to Jesus Christ Hebrews chapter 1 talks about that That God the
- 11:43
- Father used to speak to our fathers through the prophets But in these last days he has spoken to us by his son
- 11:53
- Jesus Christ Jesus is not going to go against what the wall and the prophets have revealed, right?
- 12:04
- He's not going to go against what they have revealed What is he going to do? It's going to properly teach them our first point
- 12:18
- By fulfilling them By fulfilling them look at verse 17.
- 12:30
- Do not think that I have come to abolish them Do not think that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets
- 12:38
- Notice, it's a law and the prophets not just the law not just the prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to Fulfill them the law of God the law of God is also known as the
- 12:51
- Mosaic law The two here are synonymous The law of God was delivered to Moses on Mount Sinai in the form of the
- 13:03
- Ten Commandments Right no argument. We all agree Moses wrote the statutes and rules and the people of Israel confirmed the covenant by claiming
- 13:16
- Claiming only because we know they didn't they claim that they would keep them
- 13:22
- The law was for a particular people Israel to keep in the land of Canaan now last week
- 13:31
- We read a lot in Deuteronomy to prove this point today. I just want to look at three verses Deuteronomy chapter 4 verse 5
- 13:40
- Just look at 4 verse 5 and then we'll look at verses 13 and 14 verse 5 of Deuteronomy chapter 4
- 13:51
- See I Have taught you the statutes and rules as the
- 13:59
- Lord my God commanded me That you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession
- 14:11
- Verse 13 and he declared to you his covenant
- 14:17
- Which he commanded to you to perform that is the
- 14:22
- Ten Commandments and He wrote them on two tablets of stone and the
- 14:30
- Lord Commanded me at that time to teach you the statutes and rules
- 14:37
- That you might do them in the land that you were going to over to possess and then
- 14:45
- I also pointed out last week that During their during their time that they were in eat
- 14:53
- Whenever they left Egypt that all the males were circumcised But during the time in the wilderness, they were not circumcised
- 15:02
- They were not circumcised until they entered the land of Canaan Where they were to keep the rules and the statutes
- 15:14
- When we look at our third point, so that'll be next week when we look at our third point We will look at the proper way of teaching
- 15:21
- Yeah, so today my point is not to tell you the proper way of teaching the law
- 15:26
- That's not my point for today. That's next week So please be back next week
- 15:34
- If you want to know the proper way of how the reform the
- 15:40
- The reformed have always taught through the law right now if you have a 1689
- 15:48
- I want to look at chapter 19 paragraphs 2 through 4 I Had planned to do this last week, but I ran out of time
- 15:56
- So we'll do that today Chapter 19 is the chapter on the law of God paragraph 2 hearts contained to be the perfect rule of Righteousness after the fall it was delivered by God on Mount Sinai in the
- 16:20
- Ten Commandments and Was written in two tablets the first four commandments contained our duty to God and this other six our duty to humanity, so it's my conviction that the first four points to loving
- 16:49
- God and This is where we'll get the the ceremonial laws from the final six will be our duty to neighbor this is where you'll get the
- 17:02
- Judicial laws from so these are statutes and rules that come from each tablet
- 17:09
- Paragraph 3 in addition to this law usually called the moral law God was pleased to give the people of Israel ceremonial laws contained in several typological ordinances in Some ways these concerned worship by prefiguring
- 17:26
- Christ His grace action sufferings and benefits and other ways they revealed various instructions about moral duties
- 17:39
- Since all of these ceremonial laws were appointed only Listen only until the new order arrived, which is
- 17:48
- Christ the new covenant They were abolished taken away by Jesus Christ as The true
- 18:00
- Messiah and log and only lawgiver. He was empowered by the father to do this.
- 18:06
- So the ceremonial laws Statutes and rules so when you read the ceremonial laws think statutes and rules
- 18:16
- God gave Moses the Ten Commandments chapter 20 chapters 21 through 23
- 18:25
- Of Exodus we have Moses writing out the statutes and rules
- 18:32
- Paragraph 4 To Israel, he also gave various judicial laws statutes and rules which ceased
- 18:45
- At the same time that their nation ended 70 AD 70
- 18:52
- AD Which ceased this these judicial laws ceased These laws no these laws no longer obligate anyone as part of the institution
- 19:08
- Only their general principles next week is when we'll look at general principles Only their general principles of justice continue to have moral value.
- 19:24
- You cannot be For the reestablishment of the Mosaic Covenant and also be a confessional 1689 or a confessional 1646 for those of you that know that's
- 19:36
- Presbyterianism. That's the Westminster form and also the London Baptist Confession of Faith Both of them say the same things
- 19:48
- Now I'm not saying that the law of God the moral law is not written in our hearts.
- 19:56
- I That we're given to Israel at that time are not for us today
- 20:02
- We have grace If you break one of these moral laws
- 20:07
- We do not strap you down with an axe and stone now, would we be just to do so?
- 20:13
- Yes God's law is just but through Christ.
- 20:20
- He has given to us mercy He has given to us mercy And we'll get more into that in the weeks ahead but as we transition
- 20:31
- We saw last week that Jesus fulfilled the prophets how? By entering the world as the prophets had prophesied during the time of Jerusalem's visitation
- 20:41
- This would be what the Bible calls the day of the Lord He fulfills the law by how obeying the law.
- 20:48
- He lived a life. We could not live Jesus Christ kept the law he loved
- 20:54
- God and he loved neighbor You and I could not love God and neighbor the way of Scripture commands us
- 21:00
- Jesus Christ did that in our place and even though he did that he was treated as if he lived my life
- 21:09
- This is where the gospel comes in To deny this is to deny the gospel
- 21:14
- Jesus Christ lived the life We could not live and because we could not live that he died to death that we deserve to die he
- 21:26
- Fulfilled the law by living the life We could not live and he fulfilled the prophets because they prophesied about that single event all through Scripture Point number two by bringing judgment
- 21:40
- Matthew chapter 5 verse 18 For truly
- 21:48
- I say to you Unless heaven and earth pass away Not an iota.
- 21:55
- Not a dot will pass away from the law until all is accomplished
- 22:02
- First I want to look at the word accomplished The Greek word here is gig oh my gig oh my it means
- 22:12
- To become other ways of translating it would be to come into existence
- 22:22
- Begin to be To come to pass to rise to appear in history to come upon a stage
- 22:31
- To be made to finish or finished
- 22:39
- The complete Jewish Bible says it like this Not until everything that must happen has happened not until everything
- 22:51
- That must happen has happened for truly I say to you Until heaven and earth passes away
- 22:58
- Not an iota. Not a dot will pass away until everything that must happen has happened
- 23:07
- Until it is accomplished this points us back to verse 17
- 23:16
- Where it talks about fulfillment Jesus has come to fulfill the
- 23:24
- Torah in The Jewish Bible it does not say law and prophets
- 23:29
- It says Torah because to them the law and the prophets is the Torah Right Jesus came to fulfill the
- 23:39
- Torah What it spoke about him What it said that he would do
- 23:46
- Jesus Christ came to fulfill that he is the fulfillment of the Torah Now remember the two things that the prophets
- 23:55
- Were remember the two things that the prophets prophesied one the coming of the
- 24:01
- Messiah These are the main two things that the prophets did they prophesied about the coming of the
- 24:06
- Messiah and they prophesied judgment on Jerusalem Let's look at verse 18 again for truly
- 24:14
- I say to you until heaven and earth passes away Not an iota Not a dot will pass away from the law until all is accomplished until everything that is
- 24:26
- Supposed to happens happens Now we come to where it talks about heaven and earth
- 24:33
- We have to ask ourselves as in you know, we're looking in the scriptures
- 24:40
- We want to we want to be rightful whenever we interpret this we you know as I'm looking through this
- 24:45
- I'm thinking is this literal or is this figurative is when it says heaven and earth must pass away
- 24:53
- Is this speaking literally or is it figurative? I'm going to give you three
- 24:59
- Interpretations of how this can be interpreted now. I believe that in my second interpretation in the third interpretation
- 25:07
- Go together. These are the three ways that can be interpreted Heaven and earth mean
- 25:12
- I mean heaven excuse me heaven meaning the expanse of the sky So it's not saying where God is dwelling
- 25:20
- It's just speaking of the expanse of our sky and earth meaning the ground the earth as a place to stand so basically the world
- 25:35
- Until the world passes away. So let's let's look at it in there And so it says for truly
- 25:40
- I say to you and to the world ends not an iota Not a dot shall pass away from the law until all is accomplished
- 25:50
- Does that sound correct? No, it doesn't make any sense, right until the world ends.
- 25:56
- It doesn't make any sense So I look at that I think well,
- 26:01
- I don't personally think it's speaking literally So the next interpretation is heaven and earth means the
- 26:10
- Jewish temple The Jew that the Jewish temple was a place where heaven and earth met you had the
- 26:18
- Jewish temple Which was on earth that held the Spirit of God the Shekinah of glory as the
- 26:24
- Pentecostal say Work was was in the holy of holies, right and the priests would come and they would make sacrifice at the temple to God And we know that in 70
- 26:37
- AD that temple was destroyed. Then there's a third interpretation.
- 26:43
- This is the one that I Of course, I agree with part two, but only combined with part three
- 26:51
- That heaven and earth in this passage means Jerusalem Now follow me here turn to Galatians chapter 4
- 27:06
- Galatians chapter 4 look at verse 21
- 27:15
- We're gonna look at 21 through 31. I Will give a brief interpretation as I go through here only because I can't help it right like like I just can't control myself.
- 27:25
- So I'm sorry, but you can look there with me so you can see where I step in and where the
- 27:34
- Bible Where I add to it Paul speaking to The Galatians who are
- 27:45
- Gentiles Tell me you who desire to be under the law
- 27:52
- Do you not listen to the law so we have The Judaizers they came in and they're trying to turn
- 28:00
- Gentiles into Jews Paul said well, they're adding to the gospel
- 28:08
- These Gentiles want to become Jews. They want to become Jewish Tell me you who desire to be under the law
- 28:16
- Do you not listen to the law for it is written Abraham had two sons one by a slave woman and the other by a free woman
- 28:26
- But this but the son of the slave was born according to the flesh while the son of the free woman was born according to the promise
- 28:38
- Now this may be interpreted Allegorically, these two women are two covenants one from Mount Sinai bearing children of slavery she is
- 28:53
- Hagar now This is speaking about the physical descendants of the
- 28:59
- Jews the physical descendants of Abraham Paul is saying that their mother is Hagar He said man, you're not from Isaac.
- 29:08
- You're from Ishmael Listen this would have been the worst thing you could call a
- 29:13
- Jew There's nothing worse. You could have called as you at that time a Ishmaelite Paul's digging in the dagger
- 29:23
- Now Hagar is Mount Sinai, this is where God gave the Ten Commandments Mount Sinai in Arabia she corresponds to present
- 29:35
- Jerusalem For she is in slavery with her children the physical descendants of Abraham But the
- 29:49
- Jerusalem above is free She is our mother for it is written rejoice
- 29:54
- O barren one who does not bear break forth and cry out loud you who are not in labor
- 30:01
- For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one
- 30:07
- Who has a husband? Verse 28 now you brothers like Isaac, you know, listen, he's speaking to Gentiles he's speaking to Gentiles now you the
- 30:20
- Galatians Gentiles brothers like Isaac are children of promise
- 30:27
- Because they believe by faith But just at that time he who was born according to the flesh the
- 30:35
- Jews are Persecuting he who was born according to the spirits the Gentiles So also is now but what does the scripture say cast out the slave woman and her son
- 30:53
- For the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman Do you hear that you hear what he's saying to the about the
- 31:03
- Jewish people who have not followed their Messiah Their Messiah has come and instead of leaving the sacrificial system.
- 31:11
- They dance around it as if it was a goading calf They were supposed to leave the system and listen to Jesus Whom God the
- 31:19
- Father is well pleased with no, they want to dance around their sacrificial system
- 31:28
- And then you have these Gentiles Who are dropping everything to follow Christ and he said
- 31:35
- You are the children of Abraham You are the Jerusalem above He says so brothers.
- 31:43
- We are not children of the slave We are children of the free woman Sarah Turn to Revelation chapter 11
- 32:06
- Revelation chapter 11 the context is in the two witnesses You prophesy at the temple
- 32:14
- And we won't go into all that right now if y 'all Want to ask questions at lunch.
- 32:19
- I'll be free to talk about it But let's look at verse Let's start it's verse 8, but I'm gonna start with verse 7 so speaking of the two prophets and When they had finished their testimony the beast that rises out of the bottomless pit will come and make war on them and Conquer them and kill them and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city
- 32:50
- That is symbolic. We call is called Sodom and Egypt Where this is key right here where their
- 33:00
- Lord was crucified So where was Jesus crucified? Jerusalem So here the great city is
- 33:13
- Jerusalem Now what I did years ago is I walked through Revelation and I just wrote down everything that sounded weird
- 33:21
- So needless to say there's a almost a book okay, and and so I come to this word great city and I traced it down now my
- 33:32
- Wife told me not to read all of this to you. So I'm just gonna give you a summation so a summation of Revelation chapter 11 and Revelation chapter 18
- 33:44
- I had planned just to read straight through it. I was like, you know what they're reformed. They'll be okay
- 33:50
- And if it lasts an hour then, you know, hallelujah Hallelujah, I'll take off running afterwards and you know, it is what it is
- 33:59
- But to give you a summation and I please please please sometime this week read
- 34:05
- Don't take my word for it read and follow what I'm saying Revelation chapter 11 and 18 we have the great we have
- 34:16
- What what appears to be called the great prostitute which is the woman in the wilderness?
- 34:23
- Which from Revelation chapter 12 is Israel. So you have this woman whose clothed in the
- 34:30
- Sun She stands on the moon and she has a crown of 12 stars on her head and it says that she is pregnant
- 34:37
- All right, Joseph gives a dream that he has in Genesis and in this dream he says that he see in this dream, there's the the
- 34:47
- Sun Moon and stars are bowing down to him and Jacob his father says so you mean me your mother and your brothers are gonna bow down to you
- 34:59
- Jacob interpreted Joseph's dream as him being the Sun his wife
- 35:04
- Rachel being the moon and his brothers being the stars and so in remember the
- 35:13
- Genesis 3 15 it talks about the That there would be a an offspring come from the woman who would bruise the head of the serpent my only bruising his heel
- 35:23
- And this offspring's trace to Abraham all the way to David and here comes Jesus Christ And so what
- 35:30
- I pick what I see in Revelation chapter 12 is speaking about Jesus Christ coming from Israel That this woman is a picture of Israel.
- 35:40
- She's clothed in the Sun. She's clothed in Jacob She stands on Rachel and she has the tribes of Israel on her head
- 35:51
- And she gives birth to a male child and the Bible says that that that God had a place prepared for her in the wilderness and The next time you see this woman that's in the wilderness
- 36:08
- She is a mother of prostitutes She has the mystery of Babylon She has the she has mystery
- 36:17
- Babylon the great written on her forehead She is the great city
- 36:23
- She's Jerusalem and on her is found the blood of the prophets and the
- 36:32
- Saints Matthew 23 Jesus calls Jerusalem he says and he says You have murdered the prophets and you will murder the
- 36:41
- Saints speaking to the Pharisees and Jerusalem these two chapters
- 36:51
- We see that it's a it's a picture of Jerusalem that she is judged and she is removed from the earth
- 36:58
- The Bible says that there will never be a light shining in her again It will never be a light shining in her again speaking about that covenant that old covenant that God had with Jerusalem But you just you keep reading and then you come to chapter 21
- 37:16
- And chapter 21 verses 1 through 3 says this then I saw a new heaven and a new earth
- 37:25
- Listen for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away
- 37:34
- Real quick. Let's go back and look at her text verse 18 of Matthew chapter 5 for truly
- 37:43
- I say to you until heaven and earth pass away not an iota not a dot Will pass away until all is accomplished
- 37:51
- Revelation chapter 21 verse 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth.
- 37:56
- This is speaking about the the new covenant the present -day Jerusalem the
- 38:02
- Bride of Christ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away and There was no more sea in them and I saw the
- 38:13
- Holy City the new Jerusalem coming down out from Out of heaven from God prepared as a bride adorned for her husband
- 38:23
- And what is the church the Bride of Christ? And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying behold the dwelling place of God is written is with Excuse me is with man and he will dwell with them and they will be his people and God Himself will be with them as their
- 38:44
- God ladies and gentlemen If you have received Christ by faith, you have the Holy Spirit You have
- 38:50
- God the Holy Spirit dwelling in you. The Old Testament tells us that God dwelled in tents and tabernacles and temples the temple has
- 39:03
- Has been removed. There's no longer a temple God now dwells in his people
- 39:10
- We are the new heaven and the new earth. It's the church The first one has passed away
- 39:18
- The old covenant system has passed away So my interpretation is both literal and figuratively
- 39:28
- Figuratively heaven and earth represent Jerusalem along with this temple and litter and it was literally destroyed in 70
- 39:35
- AD I know that's a kind of like a whole lot coming at you
- 39:44
- And I do apologize it's it's it's been It's been really hard Speaking to a pastor friend the other day.
- 39:52
- It's been really hard going through this series because there's not just like You know five commentaries that I can read to kind of yeah, like it's just I'm having to overload myself with with multiple things and and then trying to Do my best within the the time limit that I have to to articulate it to you and so It's been really tough
- 40:22
- So I would appreciate your prayers and the weeks ahead Right now
- 40:28
- I want to talk about our theonomic friends those who would say that the judicial laws of Israel Have not been abrogated
- 40:38
- That they still apply for us today And I told y 'all last week that this Group of people they're called theonomist and that most of my friends on Facebook Are in fact theonomist as a matter of fact at one time.
- 40:55
- I would have said that I was a theonomist Pastor Cal would have said that he was a theonomist Because we love the law of God We believe that it's for us today, but we don't believe that the
- 41:07
- Mosaic Covenant is for us today and we have to be real consistent when we speak about the law of God and about this term theonomy because if you trace it back it traces back to Our I think it's
- 41:20
- R .J. Rush Dooney, and that's exactly what he's preaching
- 41:26
- And we fall back under the Mosaic Covenant ladies and gentlemen that is in my opinion heresy
- 41:38
- They would point out these two verses in Matthew 5 17 through 18 I'll read them again.
- 41:44
- Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets I have not come to abolish them But to fulfill them for truly
- 41:49
- I say to you until heaven and earth passes away not an iota Not a dot will pass away from the law until all is accomplished
- 41:58
- Jesus did not come To abolish the law. That's what they you know, that's what they say.
- 42:04
- I'm like, hey hallelujah It says in the Bible. He did not come to abolish the law The prophets not an iota not a dot and yet in the same sentence
- 42:12
- They will tell you that the ceremonial laws of Israel have been done away with They say look
- 42:21
- God has not come to abolish the law he has come to fulfill them they're still
- 42:26
- We still have to keep them today and and as they're speaking this they'll say but the ceremonial laws have
- 42:35
- Ladies and gentlemen, the ceremonial laws are more than a an iota and it's more than a dot
- 42:42
- If we're going to be consistent, we have to be consistent If you tell me that the the mosaic judicial law is still
- 42:51
- Judicial law is still for us today, but then you want to remove the ceremonial laws, but then point me back to this verse and Any verse in the
- 43:02
- Bible and tell me that it's binding on me today that is false information That's nonsense.
- 43:14
- It's the ceremonial laws are not for today But neither is the judicial law
- 43:20
- Binding on us because we do not live in the land of Palestine. We do not live in Canaan We do not live in Jerusalem.
- 43:29
- I just want to be accurate when I teach this I Have to one day face
- 43:35
- God on this and that's where I was I came to my fellow pastor cow I was like convicted convicted
- 43:42
- Through preaching through Galatians it convicted me Galatians says that that law was until Christ came
- 43:49
- Christ came that law is no longer abrogated to us But what did he do?
- 43:55
- He put that law in our hearts He lifted it up no longer do we have to find scrolls we have to find this this tablets of stone
- 44:05
- They're in us You don't need me to tell you when your sin when you sin you know when you sin
- 44:15
- Listen if you need a pastor a minister to tell you when you mess up then you need the
- 44:21
- Holy Spirit You need to receive Christ my faith We don't need the law to tell us that we have the written law the letter law.
- 44:34
- We have it in our heart It convicts us the moment we do these evil things
- 44:42
- And listen, we better be grateful That we're not under the Mosaic Covenant, but we're under grace that we're under the new covenant
- 44:51
- Because oh, I would not be standing before you today. I would have done been dead. They would have done killed me
- 44:58
- And you as well But we have all fallen short of God's glory.
- 45:04
- We have all fallen short now
- 45:10
- I would say in a in a legalistic way of teaching this they At this point
- 45:18
- Let me read through that in a legalistic way of teaching this they would Point to the word fulfilled in verse 17 that that he did not come to abolish him
- 45:28
- But he came to fulfill them. But what they would say is That the word fulfilled here is saying that he came to establish the law
- 45:39
- So I would say that through his keeping the Covenant His keeping the law and through well,
- 45:47
- I would say through him coming as the prophets prophesied and him living the life We could not live he kept that law
- 45:54
- They would say that this is speaking about him coming to establish that law But the law is already established and the next week we will look at that Next week.
- 46:08
- We'll look more at that point. That'll be our point number three. We'll look at how how do you properly teach?
- 46:14
- That law if y 'all would give me another hour we can do it today. But right now Next week, we'll look at how you properly teach the law that is written in your heart
- 46:28
- We'll dive deep into that and and in doing so we'll look at what the reform note called the three uses of the law and I want to close with this
- 46:41
- My closing statements called a plead for post -millennial ism through the work of Christ as some of y 'all
- 46:53
- Well, no, I do not hide it. I am a post -millennialist I believe that that God is going to fulfill
- 47:08
- What Christ spoke about the Great Commission? That the world will be
- 47:15
- Discipled Baptized and they will all be taught. I don't believe it's now it could be thousands of years in the future but I believe and the post -millennial hope
- 47:29
- I Do not believe it's going to happen By my hand or by any human hand.
- 47:42
- I Have heard me say this before that God the
- 47:48
- Father created the world through his son Jesus Christ John chapter 1 Colossians chapter 1
- 47:55
- And right now he has been reading well ever since the fall of Adam Every since the fall of Adam he has been recreating the world
- 48:03
- Through the message of his son the message of the offspring that would come from the woman he finally came as the son of David in first century
- 48:12
- Jerusalem and Then everyone who has ever been saved who have been rescued from this flesh
- 48:18
- It's been because of Christ Jesus believing in Christ the same way that Abraham was saved
- 48:25
- It's the same way that you're saved today Believing in Christ. I want to read to you.
- 48:33
- What really challenged is what really challenged me Entrusting in the work of Christ in the post -millennial hope and It's Hebrews chapter 2 beginning in verse 5
- 48:50
- Hebrews chapter 2 beginning in verse 5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world the word subjected is the
- 49:00
- Greek word hypotos Oh, it means to subdue. It was not to angels that God subdued the world to come of Which we are speaking
- 49:12
- It has been testified somewhere What is man that you are mindful of him or the son of man that you care for him?
- 49:19
- You made him for a little while lower than the angels you crowned him with glory and honor putting everything in subjection hypotos oh under his feet
- 49:31
- So this is saying that he is put he's putting everything in subjection Under his feet now and putting everything in subjection hypotos.
- 49:40
- Oh Subdue control unto him He left nothing
- 49:47
- Absolutely, nothing outside of his control at present. Listen, this is where we're at right now at present.
- 49:53
- We do not yet see everything in Subjection to him, but we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels namely
- 50:02
- Jesus speaking of his hypostatic Union crowned with glory and honor because of his suffering death so that By the grace of God he might taste death for everyone for it was fitting that he for whom and by whom all things exist and bringing many sons to glory should
- 50:24
- Make the founder of their salvation Perfect how through suffering
- 50:30
- Jesus Christ was made perfect through suffering Not morally perfect but to accomplish the perfect will of God verse 11
- 50:42
- For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have one source That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers saying
- 50:50
- I will tell of your name to my brothers in the midst of The congregation I will saying your praise and again
- 50:55
- I will put my trust in him and again behold I and the children that God has given me Since therefore the children share flesh and blood listen he himself likewise partook in the same thing speaking of the hypostatic
- 51:08
- Union Hypostatic Union is the God God becoming man that that Jesus being truly
- 51:16
- God and truly man that the infinite became finite the creator into creation that Listen that through death speaking of his death on the cross that through death.
- 51:28
- He might destroy The one who has the power of death that is the devil first Corinthians chapter 15 beginning in verse 24 1st
- 51:51
- Corinthians 15 beginning in 24 3 verses Paul says then comes the end
- 51:59
- When he delivers the kingdom of God and to the father after Destroying every
- 52:07
- Authority and power for he must reign Until he has put all his enemies under his feet and the last enemy to be destroyed is
- 52:20
- Death if you go back to our Hebrews Kind of hold your place
- 52:28
- That God put everything in subjection to Christ Jesus through his suffering death
- 52:36
- Everything has been has been put under his feet the devil Received that bruising of his head when
- 52:44
- Christ Jesus was crucified and it destroyed his power But yet, it's destroying his power
- 52:55
- Because we know that there's still a devil he's alive and well Right and it speaks about when
- 53:05
- Jesus Christ comes It will be when everything has been put under his feet
- 53:11
- Secularism everything will be one day put under his feet and once it happens he comes again to destroy
- 53:20
- Death the resurrection of the dead Satan will have no more power
- 53:26
- Everything is taken away Everything is being put in control
- 53:38
- Jesus has hypotosso He's taken as far as the curse of the earth was cursed when
- 53:43
- Adam took a bite of that fruit Jesus is uncursed in the earth through the message preached about him every time we preach the gospel people
- 53:53
- Places and things are being put under the feet of Christ And you've heard me say that I know this for sure because I was an enemy of God and I have been footstooled
- 54:05
- And if you're in Christ, you are an enemy of God and you have been footstooled. You have been placed under his feet and There will come a day
- 54:14
- Where all of his enemies are placed under his feet Why because he did not send an angel to subdue the world.
- 54:21
- He sent his son God himself steps down from the throne and the person of his son and he
- 54:30
- Took control by his suffering death and yet we cannot see it with our eyes But he has already done what it takes to accomplish this purpose.
- 54:39
- He has already done it And he's and he fulfills it by the preaching of the gospel
- 54:47
- You want to know what the post -millennial hope is how does the church get victory through the message of Jesus Christ Preaching of the gospel.
- 54:57
- Why do I go out on the street corners and preach? Because I like it. No Because God has subdued the world by sending his son
- 55:05
- Jesus Christ in the likeness of human flesh And it's by that message. I was put under his foot his feet and you were and Tallahoma will be to one day
- 55:18
- Not by making people follow under a law That no one has ever been able to follow but one person
- 55:26
- Jesus Christ I'm available to anyone who wants to talk Pastor Cal and as well as our new deacon
- 55:35
- Josh. I Love you, and if you need me, I'm here. Let's pray father
- 55:41
- Or we thank you and love you Well, we thank you for your grace and your mercy right now as the people are preparing their hearts to partake in the
- 55:53
- Lord's Supper Well, I pray that your hand be upon them that you bless and keep them
- 56:00
- Lord that you will use this bread and wine As a way to grow them to the image of your son to be conformed into the image of your son
- 56:12
- Lord we love you, please God Be with us in the supper
