- 00:00
- Hey guys, Colin here, and welcome back to Fight for Truth. In this video, we're going to talk about the graduation speech heard around the world.
- 00:07
- Just a little while ago, Harrison Butker, the Catholic kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, gave a speech at Benedictine College for their commencement ceremony.
- 00:16
- This speech contained many grotesque and shocking revelations. For example, that it's a good thing for women to have babies and raise them well.
- 00:24
- And at this point, feel free to pause the video and shed a few tears for all the women of the world if you need to. And this statement has got feminist
- 00:30
- TV hosts and pundits extremely upset, as they always are. Because as we know, the quickest way to upset a feminist is to state an obvious fact that everyone agreed was true until about two seconds ago.
- 00:41
- Just to give you the full picture, here is the clip from the speech that has everyone so upset. Watch this.
- 00:47
- For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives.
- 00:56
- I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.
- 01:03
- How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?
- 01:11
- Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.
- 01:21
- I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabel, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.
- 01:30
- I am on this stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation.
- 01:38
- I am beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl
- 01:47
- I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all, homemaker.
- 02:01
- So there you have it. Harrison is simply a conservative Catholic man who believes that the Bible emphasizes traditional roles for men and women.
- 02:09
- Earlier in the speech, he also called out pro -choice, IVF, surrogacy, and Joe Biden's fake
- 02:15
- Christianity, so we're off to a great start. But unfortunately for him, he made the mistake of saying all of this in public, and now the feminists are outraged.
- 02:23
- Here's a clip from the ladies of the Today Show reacting to his speech. Watch this. I have to say,
- 02:29
- I always like to start my day off happy. Some days you're happier than others, but today something
- 02:36
- I saw, even after all my morningness, kind of lit me up.
- 02:43
- What'd you think when you heard that? Well, I'm where I am today because I have a husband who leans into his vocation, which is being an equal partner.
- 02:53
- Yeah. And I tell him that all the time. But also, who is he to tell us?
- 03:01
- Don't speak for us. I think that's kind of the thing. Stop speaking for women out there.
- 03:06
- So the clip starts out with the Today Show ladies talking about how they were lit up by watching that clip in the morning.
- 03:13
- Then we have one of them, Jenna specifically, passionately declaring that the only reason she's able to have her successful career is because her husband agreed to be an equal partner in their marriage.
- 03:24
- First off, let's make it clear that no one is better off as a result of this woman's husband making their kids lunches so that she has more time to share her bad opinions on the internet.
- 03:34
- And second, what exactly does it mean for your husband to be an equal partner? What does that mean exactly?
- 03:40
- If Jenna and her husband, for example, were walking down a dark alley in the middle of the night, and some criminal tried to attack them, who should do the protecting here?
- 03:48
- Suppose the husband said, sorry babe, I've had a long day at work, so now it's your turn to pitch in and fight the criminal.
- 03:54
- We're equal partners, after all. Every person in the world would recognize that as being cowardly and evil on the part of the man.
- 04:02
- Because we all intuitively know that he ought to defend his wife. It's his job. So as it turns out, they are not really equal partners who don't have any traditional gender roles.
- 04:12
- Because whenever it benefits the wife's feminist ideals, the husband is required to be soft, weak -willed, an equal partner, if you will.
- 04:20
- But when things get real, then the husband needs to be a traditional provider and protector. This is the glaring inconsistency of the feminist worldview, and we all need to start calling them out for it.
- 04:30
- But if you want to see another glaringly inconsistent point, watch Hoda and Jenna of the Today Show continue.
- 04:36
- Watch this. I just think divisive commentary that makes women feel like they are better doing one thing than the other is not what we need, right?
- 04:46
- Women get to decide what they want to do. And by the way, none of the choices are easy.
- 04:52
- Did we learn nothing from America Ferreira's monologue in Barbie? It is so hard to be a woman, and he hasn't had the opportunity to do that yet.
- 05:03
- So maybe when he comes back in his next life, he can give us a commencement speech about how we can live.
- 05:10
- So just to recap, out of one side of her mouth, Jenna says that Harrison needs to stop being so divisive and stop being such a big meanie.
- 05:18
- And he needs to stop telling people that it's better for them to do one thing compared to another. Let everyone make their own decisions, she says.
- 05:25
- Yet out of the other side of her mouth, she proceeds to take jabs at Harrison and suggests that he isn't allowed to have an opinion at all because he's not a woman.
- 05:34
- So ironically, she is by definition being divisive herself. And she is telling
- 05:39
- Harrison that he should do one thing as opposed to another, which is the very thing she just called him out for.
- 05:45
- If feminists didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any standards at all. That's my point. And by the way, the argument that men can't have opinions about women because they aren't women is, to put it bluntly, one of the dumbest things
- 05:57
- I've ever heard. By that logic, Jenna and Hoda shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion on Harrison's speech because they will never know what it's like to give a speech as a man.
- 06:06
- So you can see the pattern here. Whatever feminists say, they are probably doing the exact opposite. All you have to do is start asking them a few pressing questions and their worldview folds like a cheap suit.
- 06:17
- And with that, let's move forward to the next clip, this time a professing Christian feminist from The View.
- 06:23
- So what I can say to him as a Christian is if you're using this to oppress a people or hold them down, you're not walking with Jesus.
- 06:29
- If you are using the religion, if you're more obsessed with the religious rituals and practices than you are with the word of Jesus, you're not walking with Jesus.
- 06:36
- And if you're using it for the judgment of others and as a weapon to beat people down, you're also not walking with Jesus.
- 06:42
- So I would really encourage him, really encourage him to find the best parts of faith and not diverge into extremists.
- 06:49
- So we have a few moving parts here. First, she says that Harrison needs to stop using the
- 06:54
- Bible to oppress people. But here's a basic question. Why exactly is it oppression to tell women that they should bear and raise their children?
- 07:02
- Something that they would have had to do by necessity for all of human history up until the invention of the modern birth control pill.
- 07:09
- But she never actually explains that because she can't. And then she says that Harrison is obsessed with religious practices rather than focusing on the word of Jesus itself.
- 07:19
- Here's my response to that. It's true that empty religious ritualism absent of any real love for God is real and dangerous.
- 07:26
- That's true. As our Lord says in Matthew 15, these people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
- 07:33
- But the Bible also says in Titus chapter 2 that the women of the church should love their husbands and children, should work at home, should be focused on the home so that the word of God wouldn't be reviled.
- 07:45
- So if this feminist is really a Christian, then she should explain that passage instead of reciting empty feminist platitudes for the clapping seals in the audience.
- 07:53
- But then to top it all off, she encourages Harrison to keep, quote, the best parts of faith and not participate in extremism, whatever that means.
- 08:02
- Allow me to translate that using my feminist liberal Christian Rosetta Stone, if you would. When someone like this says keep the best parts of faith and take away the extremism, here's what they mean.
- 08:13
- Keep all the parts of the Bible that I like and take away all the parts that I don't like. The problem is that according to 2
- 08:20
- Timothy 3, all Scripture, not just some of it, is breathed out by God. If our
- 08:25
- Bible is to be edited according to the emotional sensibilities of modern feminists, then our Bible is going to be about 12 pages long, because they get upset at everything.
- 08:34
- But in the next reaction, we have a host from MSNBC who makes a really, let's say, interesting argument.
- 08:40
- Watch this. The women in that audience have just spent four years, more than $100 ,000, and countless hours to earn a college degree.
- 08:48
- And Harrison Butker told them the most important title they will have is homemaker. The National Football League has already disavowed
- 08:55
- Butker's speech, saying the NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.
- 09:01
- Now this was a very common argument being made online about the speech. These women just worked for hundreds of hours to get their degrees.
- 09:09
- Many of them are now thousands of dollars in debt. How dare you say anything about them being homemakers?
- 09:15
- That's so mean. First of all, if they actually listened to the speech, they would have seen Harrison congratulating the women on their hard work specifically to get their degree.
- 09:23
- For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. Second, maybe this is the problem.
- 09:30
- Why does our society think that this is a good idea, for young women to spend over $100 ,000 on a degree in the first place?
- 09:37
- You see, again, the feminists won't even ask the question. They'll just assume their answer as if it's obvious to everyone.
- 09:44
- But let's think about this. In order for these women to use their degree for a decades -long full -time career, they have two options.
- 09:51
- One, they can avoid having kids altogether. Or two, they can have kids, as most of them will, and then decide to have someone else raise them during the main hours that they're awake in their formative years, i .e.
- 10:03
- daycare. You see, the inconvenient fact is that even if you're a girl boss, if you have kids, they are still going to be breathing from 9 to 5,
- 10:10
- Monday through Friday, while you're at work. And therefore, someone else is going to have to watch them and raise them during those hours.
- 10:17
- It can either be their very own mother, the woman who loves them more than anyone else will, or it can be a stranger at a daycare center, who is equally responsible for watching 30 other people's kids at the same time.
- 10:28
- Now, we need a few disclaimers here. As the government has destroyed our economy by printing mountains of fake money, many women have found that they simply cannot afford to live mainly on the salary of their husband.
- 10:40
- And in a case like this, ensuring that your family is not homeless and starving is more important than following traditional gender norms.
- 10:47
- And here's another disclaimer. There are loads of opportunities for women to do valuable work and still be primarily focused on their household.
- 10:55
- This is shown, for example, in Proverbs 31, where a godly woman is described as looking after the needs of her family, verse 27, and also selling her goods at the market, verse 24.
- 11:06
- So just to be clear, the standard is not that women must be confined to their home as a prison from nine to five each day.
- 11:12
- Rather, the standard is for women to be domestically driven and focus primarily on their homes.
- 11:18
- But these exceptions are not the situations I'm talking about in this video. I'm referring to a situation where a wife has the option to be homeward focused, but would rather go out into the workplace and be a girl boss that brings home the bacon.
- 11:31
- Because she sees that as fundamentally more impressive or important than raising her children or even having them at all.
- 11:37
- This would be clearly wrong from a Christian perspective. And speaking of girl boss examples, listen to our
- 11:43
- MSNBC host as she brings up perhaps the most popular one of all. Watch this.
- 11:48
- So far there has been no word from Butker's team, the Kansas City Chiefs, but there is one teammate in particular who may want to have a word with Mr.
- 11:58
- Butker. As my teammate's girlfriend says, familiarity breeds contempt.
- 12:07
- If you didn't know, that was a Taylor Swift reference. Taylor Swift is dating the Chiefs' tight end, Travis Kelsey.
- 12:13
- And while I am sure Harrison Butker thought it was a neat thing to drop in a pop culture reference for his audience of 20 -somethings, the truth is that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are literally a testament to the opposite of everything
- 12:26
- Harrison Butker was talking about. Taylor Swift spent the past week filling stadiums in Paris as she continues to take her historically successful Eros tour global.
- 12:36
- The 34 -year -old singer is not married, she has no children, and has made no indication that she wants to embrace being a homemaker.
- 12:46
- All of which appears to be pretty okay with Harrison Butker's teammate, Travis Kelsey, who gets to enjoy a super fancy European vacation, including romantic boat rides through Italy alongside his multimillionaire girlfriend.
- 12:59
- Doesn't seem like a bad gig! Someone tell Harrison Butker, quick! So according to this feminist host,
- 13:05
- Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are a quote, testament to the exact opposite of what
- 13:11
- Harrison said in his speech. And ironically, I can't think of a better argument in favor of the speech than that statement.
- 13:18
- Harrison emphasized that being a traditional homemaker is a glorious and valuable thing for a woman to do.
- 13:24
- And apparently, the evidence against this is Taylor Swift, a 34 -year -old childless pop star with a list of exes longer than most phone books, alongside her grown man 34 -year -old boyfriend who acts like a frat boy.
- 13:37
- This is the best that feminists have to offer. This is their shining example of what they believe in.
- 13:42
- And they somehow see this relationship as a huge win for their cause. It's unbelievable. And she actually makes the point that even though Taylor isn't traditional by any means,
- 13:52
- Travis still seems to like her a lot, as if this proves anything. But it obviously doesn't. For instance, here's a picture of a banana duct -taped to a wall.
- 14:00
- This art exhibit was created by Maurizio Catalan and sold for $120 ,000 at Miami's Art Basel Gallery.
- 14:09
- My point here is that just because you can find someone who thinks something is good doesn't mean that that thing is objectively good.
- 14:16
- We live in a culture where everything, including standards for men and women, has to be treated as completely subjective and ultimately unknowable.
- 14:24
- But the Bible presents us with a totally different worldview. One where ultimate truth and beauty can be found and can be known because they are rooted in the ultimate truth and beauty of their creator
- 14:35
- God. And as you can see, this Christian worldview is the complete opposite of feminism.
- 14:41
- And by the way, there's a glaring irony here that we need to point out. All of these feminist female TV pundits are outraged that Harrison would ever suggest women should be homemakers because it reduces women to a caricature.
- 14:53
- But here's a question. How many times did you see any of these feminists offer a real, solid, logical argument?
- 15:00
- They didn't. All they did was get upset and vent about how the speech either hurt their feelings or hurt someone else's feelings.
- 15:07
- That's all they did. So ironically, all of these powerful women who got their jobs as cultural commentators can't actually make a decent ethical argument against anything he said.
- 15:16
- I am convinced that the best argument against feminism is to simply let feminists talk and ask them some basic questions along the way.
- 15:24
- Their worldview falls flat on its face because it has no ultimate foundation. Christians have a theology of women.
- 15:31
- In other words, we know exactly what women are here for. They are here to glorify God in everything they do.
- 15:37
- And God has called them to be the kind of women whose husbands and children will triumphantly quote praise her at the gates,
- 15:44
- Proverbs 31, 31. Our culture has thrown away this truth that we used to believe.
- 15:49
- Instead, now we think that women ought to be simply smaller imitations of men, and that's all they're good for.
- 15:55
- You see, feminism is not wrong because its view of women is too high. Most often, feminism is wrong because their view of traditional women is far too low.
- 16:04
- The fact is, good wives, mothers, and homemakers cannot be replaced with cleaning crews and daycares.
- 16:10
- Any more than a good father can be replaced with a dog and a security system. We need to recover the glory of people, of men and women being men and women.
- 16:20
- If we're going to move in the right direction, we need to acknowledge that God knows what He's doing with His creation.
- 16:25
- And I thank God that we have at least one famous Super Bowl champion—Catholic, nonetheless—who's fighting for this in the public square.
