Sorry, guys. There's sometimes when I hear that intro and I'm just like, there's gotta be a great 80s scream that we could add to that.
00:25
I think you could do that though. That was my horrible out of tune.
00:30
That was pretty good. Oh man. You know what it reminded me of? Do you remember that band like in the late nineties, early two thousands called,
00:37
I think it was like a, something like the darkness. Oh heck yeah. And they were like a throwback, like they're still out.
00:45
I believe in a thing called love or something like that. That's always my karaoke tune.
00:52
Back in the day, that was the one man. There was this one spot that I, we used to go to and it was so much fun.
00:59
I would like run around cause they had a cordless mic. So like I would run around with this cordless mic.
01:05
Did you wear like a spandex one piece too? I wanted to man. I would,
01:10
I would man. There was one point I wanted to get the, the, you know, uh, WWF wrestlers, how they wear those boxing shoes or whatever.
01:18
Yeah. I wanted to get some of those things, you know, and I had tight jeans at the time. Tight jeans were, well, they're still in, you know, we have a lot of pastors out there wearing them, but, uh, but anyway, yeah, man,
01:28
I wanted to wear those, those everlast boxing shoes as my shoes, you know, but I didn't think
01:34
I could pull it off cause I got short legs. My, my upper torso is a little bit longer. I don't know.
01:39
Can I, can I admit something to you and everyone listening? Here we go. Uh, in like 2009 or 10, like right around when my first daughter was born, uh,
01:49
I bought a pair of is a six wrestling shoes really wore them for everyday shoes.
01:57
That's rad. And, uh, now they were the, like the high top. They weren't the super high, like I shouldn't like, but like high tops.
02:04
And I had about three or four people make fun of me, but I love them so much.
02:09
Like my friends, I love them so much. And I wore them with such confidence that then I saw them like six months later by they were though.
02:16
And then I realized fashion is just how confidently you wear something. It has nothing to do with the way it looks.
02:22
Right. But I just really loved them because I felt like a native American. Okay. Like I was always sneaking up on someone because it's not a real soul.
02:29
Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's like the wrestling shoes. Yeah. They're very form fitting to the, but they looked cool.
02:35
I thought, dude, so you and I have to say, you know, what's funny though, I had some
02:40
Converse like that though. Right. Like I had the high top Converse, like I had the extra high top ones and I actually on Converse, but I had the
02:52
Converse, uh, did you know on the Converse website, you can make your own Converse.
02:58
I saw that. So it's, it's very tempting. You can, you can make your own color them the way you want. And it's, it's very detailed though.
03:04
The lines, the rubber sole, the, you know, the, the laces, the, even the circles where the laces go, you know, the silver parts for them, you can change those up.
03:14
But anyway, yeah, man, I had my own and it said my nickname was pistol boot. Okay. I don't know if you knew that or not.
03:20
I did know. So pistol boot was my nickname. I think he guessed at me and yeah, yeah, I got, I have a, I have a pistol on my leg and I used to wear boots all the time, but at one point the boots kind of started hurting my back a little bit cause they were getting a little worn down and I was getting a little old.
03:33
He's like, I'm pistol boot up to 38. Shoot man. Back then
03:38
I was like 30 and it was like, Oh my gosh. What's your nickname now? Ben gay. Something like that.
03:45
Jeez, man. At this point. Oh my gosh. I see. Isn't it crazy though? It's my buddy. I see.
03:50
I had, I was actually doing, using our, uh, our, our back massager before I showed up to the show because I've been working so much.
04:01
Dude, this is freaking me out. So my daughter Coralie spent her own money on this markdown item, uh, because we just bought a new vehicle and it did have heated seats in the back and the old vehicle did.
04:11
And she goes, if we're going camping, cause I need my heat. She's my little prima donna. She bought a massager and heated seat pad for $5 at target.
04:20
And I was just laying on it before we get massage in my bag off my daughter's thing that she bought.
04:27
Like what's going on here? We're twins. He's tonight. We had the same wrestling back massager.
04:32
Hey man, we're both Calvinist. I mean, wait a second. No, we're easy. We're reformed. We're same thing.
04:39
Yeah. Everybody's like, wait, wait, what? We believe in the Bible. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
04:45
It's like sometimes with that word, I'm just at lately. I'm just like, eh, I don't really say that.
04:50
And just, you know, if you, if you ask me certain questions, I'll say, you know, this, this is what
04:57
I see in scripture. Absolutely. And it's, it, it's not like, uh, I'm not ever trying to battle any, like the last thing
05:03
I want to do is, you know, put somebody in their place that is a brother in the
05:08
Lord unless they need it. Yeah, exactly. Oh, you guys, what do you think about predestination?
05:18
That should be our super heavy. Your Bible knowledge is limited. If you don't limit it, atonement. Yeah, no, you're absolutely right.
05:26
You don't want to, which is a, we, we had a short about that actually about talking about, we've had so many now.
05:33
No, we just recorded one tonight. That's going to go out about like, I wasn't here. You're back, baby.
05:40
Even when you're here, you don't feel like you're here anymore. No, just, you know, not being in that fire and brimstone cage stage kind of you're wrong.
05:47
You need, sometimes you do need to stash people from the fire. Sometimes you need to, uh, you know, approach with mercy and fear.
05:53
Just, uh, hand him a slice of pizza. Be like, Hey man, you, you want some pizza? They're like, wow, this guy's different.
06:00
Oh my God. It's really nice. Oh wow. He gave me free pizza. Who do you listen to? Joe Osteen, Steven Furtick.
06:07
Did you see that? Actually our buddy, uh, Claude sent it to us.
06:13
Uh, I didn't, I hadn't seen it online because I'm, I'm not, I'm not really the online guy.
06:18
I say this all the time. Yeah. Right. But it was the John MacArthur, uh, smacking, um, tell him his theology's bad or whatever.
06:30
But yeah, it was after Will Smith. So when you, so when you weren't here for the, uh, uh, uh, pro -life verse abolitionists debate,
06:38
I actually opened the show and said, uh, no one's going to get smacked. No, I, it was so dumb dude.
06:45
I don't know. I said the only will we, the only will we like is the will of God. And the only rock we care about is the rock of ages.
06:52
Welcome to the dead man walk. Like, and I thought it was like, get it again. Like a little laugh. I would have laughed at that.
06:59
Exactly. You were here for it because you're like this dude. And everyone just was like a smirk. I had like four people, you know, on a debate and they're like, eh,
07:07
I was like, okay, I like that. I'm not that funny. They did. They didn't understand. They probably did, but they were just like, it's not funny.
07:14
Which it wasn't. I liked it. I mean, I'm laughing right now. I was just like our dad joke episode.
07:19
Exactly. So to a certain point, let me ask you this. Do you almost to a certain point as you get older, this is totally not on subject and we have to get into our subject tonight because it's awesome.
07:27
Absolutely. Uh, it was something that you brought up and I won't, we want to talk about it, but before we do, as you get older, do you just kind of make jokes that make you laugh and just kind of get greedy and go look at this is fun.
07:38
I know it's funny cause I know it's funny and I've got a great sense of humor. We both do. I mean, grade a plus sense of humor.
07:44
Absolutely. Both of us. Absolutely. You know that my 12, my 12 year old never laughs at me at all.
07:51
That tells you you're fine. I get the eye roll quite a bit. And then later on, I know she's in her room and she's like that Jason.
07:59
Well, 12 year olds don't have a sense of humor. That's the whole point. We know that, you know, it's like, it's like, you know, you, you there's sometimes you throw a poopy joke in there just to get them, you know,
08:11
I don't know how we're going to transition out of this intro into what we're talking about tonight, dude. I mean, we said before we hit record, we were like, you know, just a couple minutes, we'll do a little intro.
08:22
We're already 10 minutes in and we're going, Hey, talking about poopy jokes. Let's transition.
08:28
This is what we do. So, so perfectly. Okay. And we're very humble tonight on this show. We're funny. We're perfect.
08:33
All those things. Obviously we're being, I'm being facetious, but absolutely. Uh, we're, we're, uh, you know, we're a little rowdy tonight, but at the same time,
08:41
I know we wanted to talk about Isaiah six, Isaiah six, one through eight. When you brought this up,
08:47
I said, man, I love these verses. Uh, there's some of my favorite. They're very famous. A lot of people know them, but we just wanted to dig in a little bit and do maybe a little exegeting of those verses as best as we can.
08:59
Yeah. Um, you know, we're not your pastor. Uh, we're, we're not theologians, but we do love the
09:05
Lord. We do read and we study just trying to think, trying to make you think, right. We're trying to think through this stuff as well.
09:11
Yeah, absolutely. Um, what do you want to do? You want to start off and kind of read? Yeah, we could, you want to go verse for verse?
09:18
How are we, how are we going to read the whole thing like we normally do? And then we can pick it apart. All right. Um, what were we, what are we doing?
09:24
Six, one through one through eight. Okay. Yep. So here we go. Uh, this is, uh, entitled this, this section is
09:30
Isaiah's vision of the Lord. So starting in verse one, in the year that King Uzziah died,
09:36
I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up and the train of his robe filled the temple.
09:43
Now the thing that I wanted to point out in this first verse was that the Lord was sitting upon a throne.
09:51
Come on. Okay. High and lifted up. And I know that there's a lot of things that are going on in the world right now where people are like,
09:59
Oh, the devil's in charge. Oh, there's, you know, the, the, the devil's making all this stuff happen. And, and, you know, like, there's nothing that we can do.
10:06
There's nothing the Lord can do. And it's like, hold on a second. Hold on a second. You know, like, like, don't, don't act like the
10:11
Lord is not on his throne. Yeah. That gets in your crawl. That's your pet peeve. Yeah, man. It's like, people kind of just give up and they're like, well, yeah,
10:19
Satan's a ruler of this air. Exactly. Who do you think is giving him dominion? Yeah. And it's like, we're just a bunch of losers out here.
10:26
You know, like any, any, you know, preaching the gospel isn't going to work. Oh, we're not. We're post -mill son.
10:32
Post -mill optimistic. Yeah. Right. Right. We build, you know, and, and I mean, yeah, but I, I, I love that first little, you know, okay.
10:43
The Lord is sitting upon a throne. Yeah. Okay. And it, and it's still going on right now.
10:49
So in verse two, above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings with two, he covered his face and with two, he covered his feet and with two, he flew.
11:03
Was there anything that you wanted to bring up with the seraphim and the cherubim? Well, I do love the fact that even the angels have such an awe and respect for the
11:12
Lord that they cover their eyes when they're in his presence. Right. Right. We see that in Revelation as well. Yeah. Always covering their eyes.
11:18
So true. Covering their feet because they're standing on holy ground, covering their eyes because in the presence and the glory of the Lord. So there's some symbolism there that even the angels, the, the hosts that he's
11:29
Lord over, they know. Yeah. Yeah. They know. Verse three, and one called to another and said, holy, holy, holy is the
11:36
Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of his glory. The whole earth is full of his glory.
11:44
Not just pockets. Not just in America. Yeah. Just, just different, different spots. Not just in churches.
11:50
Yeah, exactly. So the whole earth, you're saying the Bible is full of his glory. Yeah. And, and another thing right here that I really found a really cool.
12:00
I love those words. Holy, holy, holy. Like, like, think about it.
12:06
We don't, we don't see those words, you know, different words like love, love, love when you, when you're, when you're describing the
12:13
Lord, you know, and, and yes, he is love, wrath, wrath, wrath, mercy, mercy, mercy.
12:19
Right. No. When it, when it comes down to it, holy, holy, holy. Right. Sure.
12:24
Like those are the words that are being spoken about the Lord. So, and I would just say as a side note to a lot of modern churches or a lot of Christians think that holy means perfect or righteous.
12:36
Those are some words that you can use to describe what does it mean? So holy means unique, set apart, one of a kind.
12:45
Nice. Alienated. Yeah. One of a kind. It's, it's, it's all by itself. There's nothing like it. I love it.
12:51
So, and also holy, holy, holy three, you're seeing a reflection of the Trinity here. Right. You see the angels worshiping before the throne.
12:58
Holy God, the father, holy Christ, the son, holy, holy spirit, all holy in the
13:03
Trinity. I love it. Yeah. And actually in that verse, holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.
13:09
And if you're following along in scripture, the Lord, um, L O R D is capitalized, which
13:16
I have read that that is actually pointing to the, the ultimate name of Yahweh, which is a form of the
13:26
Hebrew name of God using the Bible, you know? Um, uh, so it's, it's, I mean, that's the ultimate name for.
13:33
Michael Heisser actually does some stuff on this too, which is good where he's saying, you know, the Lord of hosts, a lot of people think, and if you came out of like the eighties and the nineties, you had that Frank Peretti vision of Lord of hosts meant like the angel was like the general of the army of the army of angels, or, or there's, or like the
13:51
Lord of a host of physical armies. And it's actually saying the Lord, he's the Lord of all creation, all hosts, all divine beings, whether they're demonic, whether they're angelic, he's the
14:03
Lord of all those hosts. He is the supreme sovereign Yahweh.
14:08
That's why they're using that, that L O R D in caps, which is the Y W Y H the
14:13
Yahweh. And it just gives you this picture and I'll throw back to the first verse where Isaiah is saying when
14:20
King, what is it? King Uzziah died. Uh, you know, they were coming out of 50 years of prosperity as well too.
14:27
Uh, he was a pretty decent King for Israel and he had reigned for quite a while.
14:33
And then right into it, Isaiah gets into, yeah, but there's a, there's a Lord that reigns forever and ever in his, in his kingdom is the entire earth.
14:41
And holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty throughout the whole earth. So it's kind of this cool thing of like, but even before we get into the, the meat of what we're talking about here, when he's talking about the coal and stuff like that,
14:53
I'm jumping ahead, but he's setting it up. Yeah. You have this King that just died, but guess what?
14:58
Uh, this, the Lord that visited me, he reigns forever. Yeah. He's holy. His, his earth is his kingdom and everything in it.
15:07
Right. Yeah, exactly. So where are we at? We're we're on verse four now. Um, and the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called and the house was filled with smoke.
15:20
Yeah. And I said, what was me, this is Isaiah. What was me for?
15:26
I am lost for, I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips for my eyes have seen the
15:35
King, the Lord of hosts. So think about this. This is Isaiah, the prophet, right? So he's, he's, he's realizing how unclean his lips are, you know, when he, when he's in the presence of the
15:47
Lord, he like, I mean, I mean, think about this. Like, this is, this is huge, you know?
15:53
So let me ask you this. Do you think like, I'm just, you know, do you think when he's saying lips there too, do you think it's actually like representing speech and what he says and like how, how just like,
16:06
I'm like, my lips are unclean. And the fact of like, like everything I say and do is not even worthy of a
16:13
King when I'm in his presence, like God. Right. Right. That's what you kind of go that direction with that for sure.
16:18
Yeah. I mean, because he's saying, woe is me, you know, he's like, I, I, you know, he's just astonished by the glory of God.
16:26
Right. So this is interesting too. Like, I feel like we have, I use the term feel like I shouldn't say feel,
16:32
I'm not saying it's an emotional feel. I think, yeah. You know, we have so many times in Christianity where we, we think the presence of God is like floating around in a cloud with a harp, like approaching the pearly gates with Peter, letting us, we hear these jokes and all this stuff.
16:49
And we diminish the presence of God to where like you just said, here we have a prophet of the
16:54
Lord. Yeah. Right. He gets into the presence of the Lord. And the first thing out of his mouth is woe is me.
17:02
Right. Like basically that's the modern term of like, I'm screwed. Right. Like what is going on?
17:07
Right. I'm in deep. Yeah. You know, if to put it in modern vernacular. Yeah. And it's like, that's what the presence of God is.
17:14
When you are in the presence of a holy, holy, holy, a thrice holy sovereign
17:19
God over all creation, the creator of this reality and everything in it. Yeah.
17:25
It's a very serious thing. And instantly you're in your iniquities, your inadequacies, your sin is brought to the forefront.
17:33
I think you've, you've said it quite a few times on here, but you're going to, we're going to be prostrate. Yeah. You know, when, when we get the presence of God, but still like we're, we're going to realize when we're in front of God, like how, you know, how much we, you know, have sinned or, you know, and even though he's going to look at us through the blood of Christ, yeah.
17:53
Right. Uh, which is, which is, uh, in scripture, but you know, it's, it's like, man, the first thing that I could think is like, if I was in the presence of God, I would,
18:02
I would feel like a piece of trash. Right. I would just be like, I do not deserve like absolutely in your, in your presence whatsoever.
18:12
And we, we rightly believe that, uh, because we understand that we're sinful creatures, but like, look at Job 418, just to jump over really quick, even in his servants, he puts no trust and his angels, he charges with air.
18:25
So the ones that are in his trust to serve him and be his messengers and his ambassadors like angels, he even finds error in them.
18:33
It says in Job 418, and he puts very little trust in his servants. So, and look at, this isn't an episode of, uh, let's talk about how horrible everything is and we're bad and we're condemnation and we can't, no, we have, we have, uh, righteousness in Christ.
18:48
We have that grace that's been afforded to us, but we have to know where we came from. Right. And that's where you look at Isaiah and he is just in such a state of humbleness, you know, it's like,
18:58
I would feel like I have a little cliche, not cliche, but what's the word I'm prophet.
19:05
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right. Like you would think you'd have a, he's just like, yeah, on the, on the ground don't deserve this to be in your presence whatsoever.
19:14
Okay. So, uh, where are we at? Verse six, then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand, a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.
19:24
And he touched my mouth and said, behold, this has touched your lips. Your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.
19:33
Okay. Um, and then in, uh, in verse eight, and I heard the voice of the
19:38
Lord saying, whom shall I send and who will go for us? Then I said, here
19:43
I am send me. Right. So like Isaiah, like, you know, he has this moment where, uh, his sin is atoned for and all of a sudden he's like, even though I don't, you know,
19:55
I, I don't deserve, uh, anything, you know, send me. Yeah, I can do it.
20:01
I can do it. You know? Yeah. It's like, once you have that moment of, of the confidence of the
20:07
Lord, because of being forgiven and understanding who you are and why you've been forgiven and how you've been forgiven, it does give you that.
20:15
I've had that moment in my life to where it's like, uh, you go through like this thing of like, like shame and condemnation and I'm a nobody and I, and you know, exactly.
20:25
And everything that you've said about me is true. And then the Lord touches your lips with that coal and, and, and says that, and you go, and there's such a gratefulness there too.
20:35
Right? Like why set free, just set free. Like why have I've been given this pardon of grace?
20:41
And then it's like, oh, well then yeah, I can go send me because I want to tell other people about what
20:47
I've just been forgiven. Right. Yeah. Cause they, they can't be any worse than me. I mean, Charles Spurgeon has a quote and he says, when people talk bad about you, uh, praise the
20:58
Lord and treat it as a glory to him because you're actually far worse. Oh yeah.
21:03
He's like, they don't, basically they don't know your secrets. You're actually a lot worse. So when people are talking smack, basically like, like praise
21:11
God. Yeah. Cause it could be a lot worse cause they could know your secrets, but God knows your secrets. And it's like, that's the sin you've been forgiven.
21:18
Still loves you, you know, and still loves you. You know, I was, uh, I was reading through this and I was thinking of a
21:25
Psalm 89, seven, two, where it says a God, uh, I got greatly to be feared in the council of the
21:31
Holy ones and, uh, and awesome above all who are around him. Wow. So it's like a
21:37
God greatly to be feared in the council of the Holy ones. That's that Lord of hosts language again. Yeah. Um, that, and that kind of goes into like divine counsel.
21:45
Maybe we'll have an episode on that one day. I know Michael is at Heiser. Yeah. Eisner. How do we say it? Heiser talks about divine counsel.
21:52
God is the Supreme sovereign God over all the councils of all hosts, demonic, angelic, whatever.
21:57
But even Psalm is talking about this and Isaiah is writing about it. That's why you see that capital LORD there reinforcing,
22:04
Oh no, he's the Lord of all hosts, all divine beings. Even that Psalm says, look at in his council, you know what
22:11
I mean? Like you should, you should fear. Oh yeah. There's no one that doesn't fear God in his council, human, angelic, demonic, whatever you want to call when they're in his presence or when they come before the council or the throne of God, there is something there that has to be feared.
22:26
Exactly. Yeah. And just to, just to cap this off, I'm pretty sure we're, we're going over time here, but, uh,
22:32
R .C. Sproul said something super cool about verse eight, which I want to read real quick who will go for us.
22:40
Okay. From this moment on Isaiah is a servant of God's court and proclaims
22:45
God's message to Kings and people alike, having been freely forgiven
22:51
Isaiah volunteers without waiting to hear the nature of his commission. So he doesn't even know what he's about to do.
22:58
Ooh, I like that. Right. But like he knows he's forgiven and he's just saying no matter what, right.
23:03
I mean, you know, no matter what you want me to do, you know, and, and it, and it goes into a lot of different stories, but it's only, it's almost like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you know, he could save you, but even if he doesn't, right.
23:16
But you know, like you don't know what the Lord's going to do. Have you ever had that kind of experience where it's like, uh,
23:23
I've been forgiven of so much that, yeah, I'll just do whatever you need, Lord. Yeah. Oh, absolutely. That's how
23:28
I was regenerated in that moment. That's exactly what I said to the Lord. Like I knew that I was forgiven.
23:34
Like I, I knew, you know, it was like that moment like yeah, yeah.
23:39
And, and, um, but yeah, I said that like that, those words came out in my tears on my, on my apartment floor, like in, in my crying and, and you know, whatever, all this stuff was coming out and I just knew that I was forgiven.
23:53
The Lord loved me and I was just like, I'll do whatever you want me to do. Like it didn't matter. And it was exactly like, that's what hit me was, was when
24:01
R .C. Sproul said that, uh, in this study Bible, this Ligonier study Bible, which is really cool.
24:06
So Isaiah goes right towards, yeah, send me. Yeah, exactly. Which I'd be remissed, uh, not to mention, uh, that, uh, a past guest on this podcast,
24:15
Tim Murphy has a beautiful song called here I am Lord. Send me based on that verse. Okay.
24:20
That's very good. Very grew up singing it. Uh, you can go check it out and probably Google it, but what a great point you just make at the end of this episode too, of like, he just goes, yeah,
24:30
I'm here. Yeah. Send me here. I am like, we need that type of zeal. Now, of course we have to have knowledge and discernment as well.
24:37
Right. Zeal without knowledge is like just zeal, but he just been forgiven. Yeah. He said
24:42
I, he was in the presence of the Lord. I am not worthy. And then he touches the coal to his lips and says, you are right.
24:51
Right. You've been forgiven. You're cleansed. And it's like, I've had those experiences in my life.
24:56
And that's why this chapter is so true to me too, because it's like, I've had those experiences where it's like, yeah,
25:03
I I've wow. A weight has been lifted. Right. What do I need to do Lord? Right. Now I think sometimes, and we're, we're getting, we're going to wrap it up here, but I think there's something to think about for the listeners too.
25:15
Uh, let's not let life like stop that understanding of who
25:20
God is. Yeah. Like sometimes for me and I'm just being real here. Life can get in the way of that zeal of what do you need me to do
25:28
Lord? Well, I can't today, Lord. I've got a business to run. I've got a family. I've got a money to make. I've got this, that other errands, whatever it is.
25:36
And sometimes the good can get in the way of the Holy. Yeah. Like it's good to take care of your family.
25:41
It's good to provide. It's good to provide services in a God -like way to other people, but the good gets in the way of like the calling of that commission.
25:52
Yeah. Thank you. Absolutely. So what's our final say on this one, Hey man, this was, this was your episode.
25:58
Yeah. I mean like this really hit, hit home for me guys. I don't know if it's the moment of life that I am in right now or what's going on, but yeah, if you guys get a chance, read through Isaiah six and be encouraged for sure.
26:13
Because, uh, there's, there's a lot of, a lot of really good nuggets in there. Some really good truth. But then again, all the
26:19
Bible has that. So just, you know, you can go anywhere, but yeah, check it out. Isaiah six.
