God as Creator of Everything

So, I have a big question. Who is God?

If you want to know who God is, the best place to start is in His word. The Bible is filled with stories and letters and explanations, all kinds of information to help us understand who God is and what He's like.

You mean, how He thinks, what He likes, and about all the amazing things He's done.

Right!

So let's start at the beginning. The first words in the Bible are, In the beginning, God created...

So, God is a creator. What did He create?

Well, everything. And He did it just by speaking. Genesis 1, verse 2 and 3 says, The earth didn't have any shape, and it was empty. There was darkness over the surface of the waves. At that time, the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

God said, Let there be light. And there was light.

Okay, so,.

God is the creator of everything, even us.

God as Eternal and All-Powerful

God is also powerful and eternal.

I've heard that word eternal before.

What does it mean?

It means that God has always existed and He always will. He had no beginning and He has no end. Revelation 11, verse 17 says, Lord God who rules over all, we give thanks to you. You are the God who is and who was.

So before there was anything else, God was there.

Right.

And because He is all-powerful, He can do anything.

Like make the earth and all of the galaxies in space with His words.

Exactly.

And because God created everything, He is the one who has all the answers about life and the world and, Well, everything.

Okay, so God is the creator of all things.

Uh-huh.

He is eternal. He is all-powerful. And He is in charge of everything.

God as Gracious, Merciful, and Loving

There is something else that is very important to understand about God. Exodus 34, verse 6 and 7 says, I am the God who is tender and kind. I am gracious. I am slow to get angry. I am faithful and full of love.

I continue to show my love to thousands of people. I forgive those who do evil. I forgive those who refuse to obey.

Like how Jesus came to earth to live a sinless life and then die for sinners so everyone who believes in Him can be forgiven.

In fact, Jesus' sacrifice shows just how much God loves us. He is perfect and we are not, which means He is the only one who can heal us from all the sin and evil that has infected the good world He made.

So God is the creator of all things.

Uh-huh.

He is eternal. He is all-powerful. He is in charge of everything. And He is gentle and merciful. And He loves me.

That is a lot.

Which is why God is the only one who can be God.
