00:16
Another good Monday morning to you. Today we begin a new week, but we end an old month.
00:22
Today, the last day of September, and I hope you've had a great month, and looking forward to the beginning of the last quarter of 2024 tomorrow.
00:33
Well, today in our Bible reading we're finishing up, not only finishing up a month now that I think about it, but we're finishing up the
00:39
Psalms today, reading Psalms 148 to 150. So here's what we have left in our
00:46
Bible reading plan regarding the Old Testament after today. Tomorrow we read the book of Malachi, and then we go to the book of Ezra, and then we have the book of Nehemiah, and then that's going to pretty much wrap it up for the
01:00
Old Testament. Today, Psalms 148 to 150. I want to focus on Psalm 148, which is a psalm that calls for universal praise of our
01:11
God. Did you notice this, if you've read it? If you haven't, I encourage you to read it soon, but I started to count how many times the exhortation to praise
01:22
Him is given in the psalm, and I got sidetracked and lost track after number nine, but in the first couple of verses it says, praise the
01:32
Lord, then praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the heights, praise
01:37
Him all His angels, praise Him all His hosts, praise
01:42
Him sun and moon, praise Him all you stars of light, praise Him you heavens of heavens and you waters above the heavens, let them praise the name of the
01:52
Lord. The Lord's name is to be praised, and let's just go through a list of who it is that is to praise
01:58
Him. He's to be praised by all in His dwelling place in heaven.
02:04
He's to be praised by all the angelic heavenly hosts. He's to be praised in the stellar universe.
02:12
He's to be praised in the daytime heavens. He's to be praised among all the sea creatures.
02:19
You see this in verse 7 and following, praise the Lord from the earth you great sea creatures and all the depths.
02:27
He's to be praised even by all the forms of weather, fire and hail, snow and clouds, stormy wind fulfilling
02:36
His word. He's to be praised by all the features of the landscape on the earth, mountains and all hills, fruitful trees and all cedars.
02:47
He's to be praised by all the animals and the birds, beasts and all cattles, creeping things and flying fowl.
02:57
He's to be praised by all governmental leaders and their people, kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all judges of the earth, both young men and maidens, old men and children, human beings of all ages, men, women and children, all are to praise the
03:17
Lord for He is worthy. His name is to be praised by everyone and everything.
03:26
And then the last two verses give a praise.
03:41
Well, verse 13 says, let them praise the name of the Lord for His name alone is exalted,
03:49
His glory above the earth and the heaven. He is to be praised,
03:54
He is to be exalted for, because He alone is worthy of it all. He who is above all is worthy of such praise.
04:04
His name alone is exalted. There is no other name to be exalted.
04:11
And this is, this exhortation and proclamation is even clarified in the
04:19
New Testament in another way, which says, you know, there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved other than that of Jesus Christ.
04:28
And in Philippians 2, we read that God has highly exalted Jesus and given
04:35
Him a name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus, every name, every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is
04:44
Lord. Jesus is to be universally praised because He alone is worthy.
04:52
But there's a second reason in verse 14, and that is because of what He has done, especially in making
05:00
Himself a people. He has exalted the horn, the strength of His people, the praise of all
05:08
His saints, of the children of Israel, a people near to Him. The Lord God is to be praised because He who is above all and who alone is worthy has made for Himself a powerful, invincible people, a people who will never be destroyed, a people of His own possession.
05:34
Praise His name. Our Father and our God, we do praise You today for who
05:40
You are, a God above all else, a God who is a saving
05:45
God, a redeeming God, who has made for Himself a people of His own.
05:53
We praise You and thank You for all that You have done and for all that You are. We pray it in Jesus' name.
05:59
Amen. All right, I hope your week gets off to a great start today. Have a good day.
