00:16
Saturday morning, people of faith. We're in Deuteronomy chapters 27 and 28 today, and if you were here with us a couple of Sundays ago on March 19th, you'll understand what
00:31
I'm about to say. I am officially dubbing Deuteronomy chapter 27,
00:39
Brother Kim Doppler chapter, and here's why. Twelve different times, this following phrase is recorded in chapter 27.
00:52
It says, and all the people shall answer and say, amen. So that was part of what
01:00
Brother Doppler had encouraged us with a couple of Sundays ago.
01:05
Now, what I'm going to be looking at is actually verses 9 and 10, and it says in verse 9, it says, then
01:13
Moses and the priests, the Levites, spoke to all Israel saying, take heed and listen,
01:20
O Israel, this day you have become the people of the Lord your God, therefore you shall obey the voice of the
01:29
Lord your God and observe his commandments and his statutes, which
01:35
I command you today. Once you are a believer, you have become a part of the people of God, and notice that you are commanded to observe the
01:51
Lord's commandments and his statutes and obey his voice.
01:58
Well, a couple of things. First of all, his voice is found in the word. It is found in the word, and his commandments and his statutes, they are all found in the word.
02:11
Now, the way this is stated says, and observe his commandments and his statutes.
02:18
Listen to that, and then listen to this. This is going to be the words of Jesus in Matthew chapter 28.
02:26
It says, go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
02:32
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.
02:43
And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
02:49
So do you see the parallel in the command there to observe all that has been commanded of them?
02:58
Sometimes we divorce the Old Testament from the
03:03
New Testament as if they are unrelated to one another, and that is not a good thing to do, not a good thing to do at all.
03:13
And so the way Moses and the Levites were speaking to the people of Israel is very similar to the way that Jesus is speaking to us here.
03:25
All right? And so the thought behind that is, what are those commandments and those statutes?
03:32
Well, those are the things that are found in the word of God.
03:37
It is the Decalogue, the Ten Commandments. Those are still things that we are to obey once we are believers.
03:47
They don't save us. But once we are saved, the Lord changes what our desires are so that we wish to obey and observe
03:58
His commands. Well, let's ponder these things today and let's pray.
04:05
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for your word. Thank you for the commands to observe that you've given to us, that they would come with blessing and not cursing, that we would obey you and observe all that you have commanded us to do.
04:26
It's in your Son's name, Jesus, we pray. Amen. Have an excellent day, people of faith.
