Dead Men Walking Podcast Short: Are we willing to accept that God works all things for HIS PURPOSE?

Hey guys, welcome back to another Dead Men Walking Short. It's where we take a subject and we talk about it for a few.

This one today is going to be called According to His Purpose and I'm going to read one verse from Romans 8

Starting in verse 28 and ending in verse 28, Greg. It's a one verse.

I like it And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good

For those who are called according to his purpose, so this is a pretty famous verse.

Yes It is. I feel like a lot of people know this verse. Yeah, we hear the first part of this verse quoted quite often.

Mm -hmm Usually I hear and I think most people hear that God works everything, you know for those who love him

It works everything together for his good. Mm -hmm. It's usually shortened or paraphrased. Hey God works everything for his good

Everything on a t -shirt. It's usually on a t -shirt, you know on a truck or cat, you know It's usually at a

Steven. It's a good idea Maybe we should put that up. Sorry. No absolutely, but when you read the whole verse this this is what we really need to understand

There's a couple caveats there. Mm -hmm. It says and we know that for those who love God all things work together for good

Comma, right for those who are called caveat number one according to his purpose

Caveat number two, so we have a couple kind of contingencies in there that says yeah we know that for those who love

God all things work together for those who are called the elect and According to God's purpose.

Yeah, and I think we forget those other two parts of that. God works everything for good When in fact, that's the most precious part of that promise

Yeah, like I don't know about you Jason and I know we've talked about this, you know offline and just in our time when we're you know fellowshipping together, but Sometimes when you got to make that trip around the mountain

The trip around the mountain is the most important part of God's purpose. Yeah. Hey God I want you to do something and I need it done this way because it looks like this is the best way for me

Right, and then you take this zigzag e fork in the road crazy way the Moses way the

Moses way Exactly right. Yeah, exactly the 40 -year Moses way. Sometimes it feels like 40 years and you get there and you

And you go. Yeah, this is exactly how it should have been because that journey that way I got there

Right was the exact way that you know, refined me prepared me sanctified me

Took sin out of my life. Help me repent. Yeah all those things and Why do we drop that so often?

It's so it's so funny because the the second I've heard the second half of your life you usually are

Using every tool that you learned in the first half because you went through all those different trials

You know, I can't and I don't I don't know if it was Confucius or whoever it was But that's like so there's a quote out there like that But but literally you're you're training, you know, like you're you're training for this this next phase in your life

Always, you know, like I really truly believe that that the Lord is taking you through certain things that you're going to have to know

You know before you can really sure, you know, you're being used for his purpose but like You know when once you get you know

It's and it's not like you all of a sudden have arrived or whatnot Don't don't get me wrong on that right you're learning as you're headed into this next phase of life, you know

Yeah, but I think a lot of times we start to I know I can say for myself

Whenever I'm going through something really difficult it's really easy to lose sight of that because you're just you're just in that moment and you're just kind of like sure the

I'm not supposed to be here right now. You know, like you said a mountain It's like I'm supposed to be on the on the top of this mountain, right?

That's what that's our told me, you know What TD Jake's told me man supposed to be way up Okay, sorry guys, yeah, but yeah, but anyway, there's there's definitely a purpose for you know

Getting to yeah, and what really gets me is the fact that we don't hold on to that last part Which is the more precious part, which is the part where we see

God work where we see his sovereignty come true We see his Providence take place. We just want to quote that first part where everything works out

Such a nihilist view like guys It is what it is

It's just it'll work out when in fact the full verse says for those who are called a promise to the specific elect and then of Course according to his purpose.

There's a greater plan And we don't have to be in control of it or in charge of it

It's his plan at the end of the day and I would just if for anyone who's listening Like take that whole verse and meditate on it.

Yeah, I don't take the first, you know, like you said t -shirt version Of the verse Oh God works everything out like let's meditate on that whole verse

Which is so great and gracious and the things that he does for us According to his plan for the called for the elect like that's such a precious thing, you know

And that's and that's just a verse that pretty point and pretty much points to faith. Yeah, you know
