Has anyone else noticed how f**k the trinity is?

God is gay.

God is a lesbian.

God is trans but that's not what jesus actually meant at all.

Being born anew.

To see the kingdom of god is not about believing certain doctrines.

The early church was a group of people who came together around a social and spiritual vision.

You can tell this is a garbage take because of one simple fact.

Before i jumped into this ministry i was a debate teacher and a pastor.

So with the intersection of those skills let's turn our attention to tiktok where

all the deep theology is taking place in today's culture.

Wait what's that?

That's not true my bad.

Well let's react to whatever is being passed off as theology these days but let's do it with an eye on

scripture and a heart of compassion.

It's gonna be hard.

Okay.

But this is a good exercise for us as christians.

So let's get right into it.

You better convert and love jesus or you're gonna burn in hell forever.

I'm already a christian.

Are you though?

Yeah.

I'm not gonna play this game.

I'm just trying to tell you the truth in love.

Repent or burn.

Okay.

What do you mean.

Okay?

I mean i'm not gonna respond to your antagonism with hatred or anger because i don't want to help your leaders manipulate you through isolation.

What?

If you really wanted me to convert you'd talk to me about jesus's miracles the way he healed people, fed people.

You'd probably give me some free food.

That sounds like bribing people to believe in jesus.

I didn't say it was ethical i just said it would be more effective.

But people need to know that the wages of sin is death.

Or consider that your leaders are intentionally trying to isolate you.

What?

When you go out and tell people they'll burn in hell the response is usually negative.

Right?

Hostile.

Even.

It teaches you that the outside world is bad and you're good.

It makes you feel persecuted even though you were the aggressor in the first place.

That all has the effect of isolating you and strengthening your loyalty to your brand of christianity.

It's intentional.

It hurts people.

And it doesn't actually save souls.

This video is probably compelling for a lot of people because it actually includes a couple of things that are true.

So i came up as a pastor at an sbc church.

I wasn't too familiar with the sbc before becoming a pastor.

I certainly had never heard of the ifb you know, independent fundamentalist baptist not saying all churches in the ifb

are a problem.

The point is these types of churches and structures that this lady alludes to actually exist.

They are structured around a particular senior pastor or church leader who he leads with a

very heightened vision that pits adherence to this vision against the outside world.

And then it furthers this kind of constant adversarial stance which then leads to isolationism

which in turn creates an environment for abuse.

Now i'm thinking of, you know, westboro baptist church.

I'm thinking of bob goddard in the iblp, right?

So this lady is right when she identifies these structures that actually do exist.

And also, good for this lady for pointing out that turn and burn style.

Preaching is not the way to lead off or initially speak to people.

I actually agree with that.

Having said that, the question is should the threat of hell be completely off limits to the christian

as they engage others for the kingdom of heaven?

And the answer is, absolutely not.

The bible teaches about hell.

And so good bible readers are going to need to talk about it, right?

You have to ask the question when someone says, if you don't repent you'll go to hell.

Is that unbiblical?

Is that something not found in the bible?

Are people getting this idea from abusive leaders who manipulate them?

Or are they getting that from the bible?

Matthew 10 28 says.

Who said

that?

No, jesus said that.

And we all need to wrestle with what he meant when he said it.

I've got news for you.

You cannot allegorize jesus' words right here into universalism.

Sorry.

Clearly he wanted his disciples to understand what god can and will do to those who reject

him.

Wait, what's that?

Jesus said more along these lines?

Take a look at this verse 34.

Does this sound like giving people free food?

Does this sound like focusing on miracles and healings only?

Not at all.

Now, did jesus give people free food?

Sure.

But why did he do that, progressive christian?

Why did he feed the masses?

He did that like a good jewish rabbi because there was a lesson that he was teaching the people around him particularly his

disciples.

He used the exercise of feeding the crowd with miraculous food to teach them an important lesson about himself

as well as the kingdom of god.

In other words, jesus didn't just feed people simply because they were hungry.

He didn't just heal people simply because they needed healing.

Everything jesus did provided him the opportunity to teach about god.

When jesus said to teach them all that i have commanded you.

That's the great commission, right?

Well, is this not part of jesus' commands to his disciples?

Rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Is that not a command to all of disciples of jesus that they should obey?

Wow, nate, that sounds an awful lot like fear -mongering and hate rhetoric to control people.

The only way that this lady can say what she's saying is because she ignores jesus' complete teaching on hell.

She also completely ignores the disciples' own application of jesus' teaching on hell.

And what we're left with is don't talk about hell, guys.

Reduce jesus down to just his healings and his miracles only.

Also, give out free food that in no way will give folks the wrong impression about

what's at stake with regard to their own sin and how it separates us from god.

No, don't worry about that.

That was kind of fast.

Okay.

Jesus never said anything about abortion.

Hmm, gee, i don't know why he wouldn't have.

I mean, there must have been so many planned parenthoods around jerusalem back in the first century.

Dang, uh, why didn't he say anything, guys?

Um, you know, come to think of it.

Jesus didn't say anything about people becoming furries either.

You know what?

Jesus didn't say anything about the first moon landing.

I knew it was a hoax.

Jesus didn't say anything about the internet, guys.

Wow.

Dang, wait a second.

Jesus didn't say anything about the chosen, guys this is blowing my mind.

Okay, jesus never said anything about abortion, homosexuality, and transgender people.

Now, here's the response that we as christians need to get used to saying when folks make these kinds of statements you ready for this?

So, therefore, what?

In other words so, therefore, what follows from this?

If jesus never said anything about a particular topic are you saying that, therefore, he endorses that

particular topic?

See, that kind of fully -formed claim is what we need to pull out of folks like this.

Very often, people make these kinds of half -baked or half -cooked claims.

You know, they're incomplete.

And so we need to help them fully complete these claims so that we can properly respond.

If jesus never said anything about abortion does that mean that he fully endorses it?

Well, wait a second.

Do not think that i have come to abolish the law or the prophets.

I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.

Now, this was a very jewish way of saying i'm here to show you how to properly interpret the scripture.

Jesus refers to the law and the prophets.

And that is shorthand for what we call today the old testament, okay?

So, a fundamental component of jesus' ministry was to properly interpret the old testament.

What does the old testament have to say about homosexuality, guys?

We've been through this before in previous videos.

Look at leviticus 18 .22.

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman.

It is an abomination.

Same thing is said in leviticus 20 .13.

You can look at genesis 1 .27.

And so god created man in his own image.

In the image of god, he created him male and female, he created them.

Okay, these passages, well, they're not the only ones but these passages give you a clear picture

of how god designed human sexuality and gender and the roles of men and women especially

with regard to their sexual practices.

All right?

I actually unpacked a lot of this more in the last woke tiktok video.

So you should definitely check that out.

Okay, so that's what the old testament says about those issues.

What about abortion?

Again, what is the attitude that the bible teaches us to have with regard to children?

Look at genesis 1 .28, right?

And god blessed them and god said to them be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.

Okay?

What does multiply mean?

Does it mean get pregnant and then kill them in the womb?

Nooo.

See, the israelites understood the value of children.

There was no abortion epidemic in their society the way that we see one in ours today.

Why?

Well, because the bible teaches that children are a tremendous blessing.

Psalm 127, verse 3 says behold, children are a heritage from the lord

the fruit of the womb a reward.

Children are a direct gift from god.

Why?

Because he wants us to multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.

It goes back to genesis like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.

Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them with children.

Why didn't jesus say anything about abortion?

Why didn't he say anything about homosexuality or transgenderism?

Because he didn't need to remember, one of the reasons that he came to earth was to properly interpret the old

testament.

And guess what?

The israelites already properly understood the issues of human sexuality and of having children.

Had someone tried to affirm this kind of nonsense in the first century the israelites would have immediately understood as

we do today that this is not what god intended.

This is not part of god's design for humanity.

Jesus didn't say anything about these issues because he didn't need to.

What is the deal with not saying anything but just smiling and dancing and pointing at words on a screen?

Is this what counts as compelling speech these days?

15 seconds of a song and smiling?

Can i can i try this?

Okay let me see.

This is silly, okay?

I mean this is uh god created lgbtq folks.

Really, where does the bible teach that?

See we do have a creation account for humanity.

But as i just pointed out genesis 1 very clearly shows us that when god created humanity he created them

male and female and then gave them specific roles to fill the earth and subdue it.

That's why in genesis chapter 2 we see the institution of marriage to surround and give

meaning and depth to the job that god gave humanity.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and they shall become one

flesh.

This is of course after god creates eve from adam's side do you see the creation of the

lgbtq folks anywhere in there?

This is just a claim that is backed up not with scripture but like music

and pointing and smiling.

She preaches from the word of god and she says the trinity is what?

The inequity of what is happening of the workload

is un -inequitable.

Un -inequitable?

Is that even a word in the progressive lexicon?

Inequity is un -inequitable.

I'mma i'mma chew on that one.

Like the spirit has literally birthed the church helps every

single one of us.

Pray gives us all the ability to speak to god and speak for god and with god and you know

moves and works with every single person within them and without them and transforms the

world but like most people forget that she's even part of it.

And then homeboy and daddy -o are all taking all the credit.

Is she talking about god the father? and jesus the son?

Homeboy and daddy -o the utter lack

of reverence and respect and fear for the godhead for the persons of the trinity.

I - wow.

If this woman does not immediately repent for her disdain of the lord i mean i don't i

don't want to be anywhere near her when she stands before god i i think we all need to back away and recede into the bushes like homer on

this one.

He literally takes all the credit half of the stuff that the spirit

does.

Homeboy takes a credit.

For now.

Look daddy -o is up there doing their work.

I mean i get it.

Administration is hard.

You made the world okay.

But like who is the backbone?

Who's doing all the work?

And getting none of the credit.

The women.

The spirit sounds like the church to me.

Did.

She did.

She just say the holy sp - what the heck is going on right now?

First of all i can clearly see a fundamental lack of understanding when it comes to the trinity.

I mean the persons of the trinity all exist in a hierarchical

dynamic of submission.

Jesus said in john 15 26.

But when the helper comes whom i will send to you from the father the spirit of truth who proceeds from the father

he will bear witness about me.

So the holy spirit's role is to point back to and to bear witness about jesus.

That's why in john 14 26 jesus said.

But the helper the holy spirit whom the father will send in my name he will teach you all things and

bring to your remembrance all that i have sent to you.

By the way which gendered pronoun is used for the spirit?

He he will point back to jesus he will bear witness about jesus he will bring to your remembrance all

that jesus has taught.

Why?

Because that's the spirit's role for the christians in this world.

Now the spirit does more than that but it's not about placing the emphasis or focus on the spirit at all which

is interesting because that's what jesus did right?

He places the emphasis and the focus back on the father.

Jesus said to the father in john 17 verse 4.

I glorified you on earth having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

Verse 6 i have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world.

Yours they were and you gave them to me and they have kept your word.

Verse 8.

For i have given them the words that you gave me and they have received them and have come to know in truth that i came

from you.

Verse 12.

While i was with them i kept them in your name which you have given me.

Right?

Jesus is pointing back to the father here look in luke 22 verse 42.

This is what it says.

Father.

Jesus says this father if you are willing remove this cup from me nevertheless not my will but

yours be done.

That's why in philippians 2 it says that jesus though he was in the form of god did not count equality with god a thing to be

grasped but emptied himself by taking the form of a servant.

This lady has completely missed not only the hierarchical

dynamic of submission between father son and holy spirit but also the way that the spirit

has zero interest in putting the focus on himself.

Notice i said himself because that's how the bible talks about the spirit now not trying to get into a discussion about god

and gender right.

Now i'm just pushing back against what it appears to me to be a very current progressive

hot take that you know.

Inequity and lack of recognition must then point to the spirit being a woman while the men of the trinity take

all the credit.

That is just hot cajun garbage fire logic.

And it has nothing to do with a true and proper understanding of god and the persons of the trinity as a matter of fact

because marriage speaks theology.

In other words marriage points to the trinity.

I'll wager this lady has a horrifically flawed view of marriage as well by the way like who made this woman a

reverend.

That was really bad guys this lady and these others they desperately need

to have a real encounter with the living god and move far away from the god that they have clearly formulated in their

own minds.

And i again i'm i don't mean this in a mean -spirited way.

I believed and affirmed lots of hot cajun garbage before god saved me.

And all it takes is one true real encounter with the living god.

And these folks could easily become the biggest evangelist you have ever seen.

That's what our god can do.

Amen?

God is gay.

God is a lesbian.

God is trans.

God is gender non -binary.

God is straight.

God is cisgender.

God is black.

God is white.

God is middle eastern.

God is asian.

God is differently abled mentally and physically.

God is able -bodied.

Wait god did he just say god is differently abled mentally and physically?

What?

So so god is mentally handicapped?

Is that what this guy just said?

God is you and you are god because you are

a reflection of god's divine image.

God is gay, trans, black, middle eastern, and he's

mentally handicapped.

Do you see the fruit of this kind of theology?

Do you see where it leads?

What a horrible series of philosophical statements.

God is you.

And you are god because you are a reflection of god's image.

Well wait a second.

Which is it?

Are you god?

Or are you a reflection of god?

Which option do i fill in on the multiple choice sheet here?

I mean let's try this out and see what happens.

You are the mirror.

And the mirror is you.

Because the mirror is a reflection of you.

Does that make sense at all?

Let me try this one.

Your child is you and you are your child because your child is a reflection of you.

Do you see the problem here?

You are not god.

And for anyone like this man here to say that has completely missed when god

literally said this in the bible.

Look at this.

Isaiah 45 verse 18.

For thus says the lord who created the heavens he is god who formed the earth and made it.

He established it.

He did not create it empty.

He formed it to be inhabited.

Here it is.

I am the lord and there is no other.

Raise your hand if you created the universe and everything in it.

No?

No one?

That's right.

There is only one god.

The lord says in isaiah 55.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts.

Neither are your ways.

My ways declares the lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my

thoughts than your thoughts.

No no no no.

The progressive says well wait a sec daddy -o i am you and you are me.

The only way that you can get away with saying this kind of stuff is if you don't read god's own words in

the scriptures.

God is not you.

That means god is not black.

He's not white.

God is not a human being.

Guys these are all attributes of human beings.

God is not a human being.

God is spirit.

Did he create us in his image?

Yes once again genesis 127.

God created man in his own image.

He created them male and female.

He created them in his image.

What does that mean?

What does it mean to be made in the image of god?

You don't get to just make that up.

This has a very specific meaning.

Christians have a couple answers for what this means.

But guess what.

It doesn't mean that you are god yourself.

An image is not ontological identity.

Your thousand selfies on your iphone are not all.

Really you guys do i need to keep explaining this?

I don't think.

So i mean this.

This is just horrible theology.

And it leads to a very dangerous place.

Okay we do read of someone who spoke like this man.

Right here.

Isaiah 14 verse 12.

How you are fallen from heaven.

Oh day star son of dawn.

How you are cut down to the ground.

You who laid the nations low.

You said in your heart i will ascend to heaven above the stars of god.

I will set my throne on high.

I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north.

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds.

I will make myself like the most high.

Whether you see this passage as merely referring to the king of babylon or satan himself.

Which many christians do.

By the way the point is this.

This is how the bible responds to those who want to believe that they are like the most high.

They are not.

We are not.

And the bible has some very scary things to say for people who want to speak and believe these kinds of things.

But i want to share with you what i really believe is the movement that jesus began and it's

not the institutional christian church.

One of my favorite passages in the bible is from john chapter 3 when a jewish leader named nicodemus comes to

jesus under the cover of night and nicodemus says we see all that you're doing.

We know that you're from god and jesus responds this is one of my favorite passages too.

So that's uh what a coincidence.

I'm saying i assure you unless someone is born anew it is not

possible to see god's kingdom now.

If you grew up in traditional christianity you probably heard that translation as born again.

And to be born again meant believing certain doctrines about jesus belonging to the right church declaring jesus as

your lord.

Which really meant submitting to a certain set of doctrines and a certain kind of church.

But that's not what jesus actually meant at all being born anew to see the kingdom of

god is not about believing certain doctrines.

It's not about belonging to a certain church.

It's a way of changing the vision that you have of the world around you.

Jesus believed that god's kingdom was here it was in our midst.

It was not something that was going to come in some millennial age at the end of time that was going to fall out of heaven.

No jesus believed that the kingdom of god was already here but we had to have the eyes to see it.

Okay let's go to the text.

Right.

We're talking about a biblical passage here so let's go to the text and be very precise about what the

bible says.

Okay let's go to john chapter 3.

Verse 3 jesus answered him who?

Nicodemus.

And said truly truly i say to you unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of god.

Okay we have a phrase here a phrase that could be either understood as born again or born from

above.

Right.

There's a little bit of play there.

In the greek the definition here is not referring to you know simply

repeating key christian doctrine or belonging to a certain kind of church as brandon said i mean no one as far

as i can tell understood the definition of being born again.

In this way i think brandon is setting up a straw man here.

What do you all think?

Now some of the things that brandon has said so far is a good commentary there.

You know in terms of the critique of the church you know the modern church.

I could probably affirm some of the things that brandon is saying here and get behind his characterizations.

The problem is this does not follow from the first thing that he said.

The first thing that he said was to be born again is to have a change of vision with regard to god's

kingdom.

Right.

But is that what jesus really meant?

Well let's let jesus define his own words.

It's just amazing.

How if you just keep reading guys the text defines itself.

Look at verse 4.

Nicodemus said to him how can a man be born when he is old?

Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?

Jesus answered truly truly i say to you now right here he's going to flesh out what he means so

we can understand what he's talking about.

Unless one is born of water and the spirit he cannot enter the kingdom

of god.

Very interesting.

Did jesus say.

You know what nicodemus.

I'm really talking about changing your vision.

I'm really talking about your eyes and how you see.

No it's not what he said.

He specifically referenced some old testament passages in order to unpack what he meant.

Why did he do that?

Because he's talking to someone who should know his bible.

Nicodemus is a pharisee and so jesus appeals to the text that they should both know.

I mentioned this in a previous video just about everything jesus said is connected to the old testament.

Whether it's a direct quotation or a reference to the old testament it's connected.

Why?

Because jesus came to fulfill the law.

He's not here to abolish it.

He's here to properly interpret it for the jews.

So of course he's going to look back to the old testament when he talks about being born again.

And this idea takes us right back to ezekiel chapter 36.

Take a look at this.

God says to the house of israel in verse 24.

I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own

land.

This is at some time in the future.

Verse 25 i will sprinkle clean water on you and you shall be clean

from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols i will cleanse you.

Okay so we see the water here doing the work of making people clean.

God is the one who sprinkles clean water and makes people clean.

And then watch this verse 26.

And i will give you a new heart and a new spirit.

I will put within you and i will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

And i will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes and be

careful to obey my rules.

Okay so now we see the spirit here doing the work of causing people to walk in

god's statutes and obeying him and his commands water and spirit.

This is the old testament reference that jesus is making.

But nate.

How do you know this?

How do you know that it's connected to the old testament?

Great question.

Take a look at john 3.

Take a look at what happens next.

Verse 9.

Jesus or nicodemus said to him how can these things be?

And jesus answered him are you the teacher of israel.

And yet you do not understand these things?

Pop quiz.

What is nicodemus the teacher of?

Yep you guessed it.

The old testament jesus has made an overt reference to the writings of ezekiel.

And nicodemus has completely missed it.

And so jesus says you should know this.

You teach this to other jews.

Being born again ladies and gentlemen is not some cool hip ethereal

vision type thing.

Being born again is the fulfillment of a promise that god made to his people all the way back in the book of ezekiel.

If anyone else is telling you otherwise be very careful to make them explain themselves from the text.

It wasn't a group of people coming together to do certain worship practices.

It wasn't even primarily about liturgy or songs or rituals.

The early church was a group of people who came together around a social and spiritual vision and did

everything they could to make that vision a reality.

You can tell this is a garbage take because of one simple fact.

Brandon says the kingdom of god is not about worship practices or rituals.

Except why did jesus participate in the rituals of the festivals of the jews?

Brandon's got to be aware of the rituals that were present at each festival.

Why did jesus initiate the ritual of communion the night that he was arrested?

Is that not a ritual?

Why did jesus teach at the synagogues in a style commensurate with first century jewish practice?

Is that not a type of worship practice?

As a matter of fact wait a second.

Why is it that in acts chapter 2 verse 42 the early church it says they devoted themselves to the

apostles teaching and the fellowship to the breaking of bread.

And the prayers.

Hmm.

Notice.

It's not any old prayers.

It's the prayers.

Did you.

Did you see that?

The christians recited specific prayers surrounding the breaking of bread which wait that entails communion,

correct?

Is this not ritual and liturgy?

Why did the early christians in acts chapter 3 verse 1 go to the temple at the hour of prayer?

They went to the synagogue.

Brandon's got to be aware of the liturgy in the synagogues that the early christians participated in

the reading of torah and the prophets.

I mean what do you think jesus did when he read from the scroll of isaiah?

What is brandon even talking about?

The apostle paul called the early church the body of christ.

That wasn't a metaphor he was literally saying you are the incarnation of jesus in the world.

Jesus has never left earth.

In the past 2000 years wherever there have been people devoted to the social spiritual vision of jesus

jesus has been present.

We are the hands and feet of christ we are the power the person and presence of jesus in our world.

Interesting how that's framed.

We are devoted to the social and spiritual vision of jesus.

That actually that's.

That's a great line.

That sounds amazing.

What does it mean though?

If it means that we get to ignore the full counsel of the bible's teaching on sin and we ignore everything jesus said about

hell or at the very least allegorize it away into insignificance and we ignore everything jesus said

about denying yourself which is something progressive christians seem completely allergic to then that's not the kingdom

of god.

The kingdom of god fully realized is a kingdom of disciples who live out their love for god

through obedience to his word.

Does that entail loving your neighbor as yourself and taking care of the alien the orphan and the widow?

Absolutely.

But does it mean ignoring god's design for men and women and embracing sexual sin?

Absolutely not.

You see how a lot of you know the the statements here the comments here they have strains

of truth in them.

But mostly this is just a huge exercise in eisegesis based on a self -induced

reductionistic view of god and his word.

And the vision of jesus wasn't about building institutions despite claims by many that

there is this unbroken line of apostolic succession.

And this isn't only the roman catholic church many denominations claim this that there's a line tracing all the way back to peter himself.

And so the institutions that now exist as christianity are the institutions jesus himself began peter

himself began paul himself began.

Just because you can point back a lineage to a person that was around jesus or to jesus himself

doesn't mean that the institutions those people oversee reflect anything like.

What jesus actually started.

What jesus actually hoped for.

What did jesus actually hope for?

You know what what did jesus actually teach?

The only way that you'll be able to answer that with any sense of confidence is by going to the text and studying it

in its context and in its totality.

If you take god's word seriously that's exactly what you have to do.

The problem is a lot of progressive christians do not take it seriously.

They don't believe that all the words of scripture are god -breathed.

They reject passages that don't line up with their own sense of morality.

And when these folks try to preach about the scripture.

This is exactly what happens now.

This message isn't against the institution of the church.

Christian institutions i believe have a place.

I'm a pastor for goodness sakes i literally lead an institution of christianity.

But i don't believe that the church is the only or even the primary vehicle.

And when i say church i mean the institutional church of enacting jesus's vision into the world.

Jesus's hope was to see god's kingdom made manifest on earth as it was in heaven.

That's what he prayed in the lord's prayer.

And that's what he told his apostles to pray ask god to help make manifest the

just the equal the beautiful world that our hearts know is possible right now.

Right here if you look at the book of acts the early church wasn't gathering under these large

authorities of bishops and popes.

No it was people coming together in their community sharing what they had.

Their resources.

Really there was no authority whatsoever in these churches and acts.

These were just organic meetups and hangouts.

No structure no leadership.

Just a bunch of people chilling out together.

Really so when i see again in acts chapter 2 verse 42 and the early church devoted themselves to the

apostles teaching and the fellowship to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

When i see in acts chapter 4 verse 35 that the early church was selling their possessions and laying

them at the apostles feet.

When i see the disciples get together and make an executive command in acts chapter 6 to appoint seven men

to for the responsibility of you know serving tables and taking care of the widows.

That's not a structure.

Guys there's no authority here whatsoever.

Is that what we're really supposed to believe.

I mean certainly at the the first council in acts chapter 15 when someone like james gets up and speaks with authority

well you know he just happened to accidentally be there.

You know he wasn't the leader of the church in acts.

He just spoke on behalf of the church because he was closest to the microphone.

Certainly when paul writes about the office of elder and deacon in first and second timothy and titus that can't be considered authority.

Guys there was no authority in the early church.

These claims are just completely ignorant of the new testament.

Every critique that i have comes out of places in the bible that brandon either does not know about or

refuses to cite because it does not comport with his narrative energy their skills.

Supporting one another doing subversive acts of love to overturn injustice in the world

and make god's kingdom a reality.

You see the point of the early church wasn't again primarily to have religious services.

It was a social and spiritual gathering of people.

Not even a gathering really.

This was people doing life with one another day after day after day trying to make the kingdom of

god a reality on earth as it is in heaven.

What is the kingdom of god without god's word at the center to guide its formation.

What does that even mean.

They're just hanging out they're just living life together.

No again read acts chapter 2.

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles.

What were the apostles teaching them.

The answer is the same thing that paul was teaching the jews whenever he traveled around and went to every synagogue.

The bible you see many people in jesus's day longed for a savior to come who would topple the roman

empire that was causing so much injustice and oppression in the world and set up a new kingdom from the top down.

Jesus surprised so many people because his vision was never about establishing institutions of power and privilege

or going all the way to the top.

It was about changing the world from the bottom up empowering normal everyday people even those who

were cast to the side by religious and political establishments empowering them to see the potential that they

had to redeem and renew this world to redeem and renew their lives to

redeem and renew their neighborhoods and their communities.

And through this grassroots effort to redeem and renew the world we could transform the entire world

from the ground up.

Based on what?

Transform the world based on what?

This is what's so frustrating about stuff like this.

It's just so vague you know.

Brandon talks about jesus's vision.

What is a vision?

Isn't it a set of goals surrounding certain fundamental beliefs?

Okay but there's that pesky word that brandon doesn't want us to believe.

It's important, right?

Beliefs!

But wait, wait a sec.

What is brandon's vision for the world?

Isn't it also a set of goals surrounding fundamental beliefs that he holds to?

So what is the transformation of the world based on, brandon?

Obliterating homelessness?

Diversity, equity, and inclusion?

Celebrating sin?

What - what is it?

Now, for the past two thousand years that message has primarily been lost by institutions

who have declared who is in and who is out who have declared what all christians must believe and how all christians must worship.

These are mormon talking points, guys.

Brandon literally just stole joseph smith's talking points right here.

We lost, uh, we lost the message, guys.

But if you look in jesus's teachings he never gives a statement of orthodoxy he never gives a creed he never says this

is how you need to do worship services.

He never - he never gives a statement of orthodoxy.

Never, ever.

Okay, so then what would you call the sermon on the mount?

Is that not a series of teachings on what jesus commands as best practices for the people of god?

That is the definition of orthodoxy, right?

Orthodoxy refers to the practices that are authorized by the correct authority.

Isn't that the sermon on the mount?

What is the ritual of communion?

Do this in remembrance of me.

Is that not a practice that jesus commanded that is now considered orthodox by the church?

This is getting - i'm blowing a gasket.

What's really bad about this is that so many are taken with brandon's ideas.

I'll hear a little bit more.

And then let's just wrap up love your neighbor and love yourself and in this you fulfill all

of the requirements of the law.

True christianity is a social and spiritual vision that our hearts are

lit aflame by to be born again is to see the truth of jesus's message that

when we center our lives on the power of god when we help center ourselves in proper relationship to god

we tap into god's power and we fill ourselves up with the kingdom of god within us.

And then together we go into the world and through one subversive act of love and justice

at a time we overturn the kingdom of this world and the kingdoms of darkness and create a more just and

beautiful world the world that god has always desired for us to live within.

You see true christianity is not about believing and belonging to an

institution it's about living in the way of jesus and many

In a community though right?

I mean you know you can knock the the word institution all day long.

But what words would you use to describe a community that is structured and has authority

figures in some kind of hierarchy.

Okay so we can't say institution according to brandon.

So what word should we use?

People live this way many people are disciples of christ many people who are not christians.

Jesus never said you have to leave your religion or leave your culture or leave your tradition to follow him.

He invited people wherever they were to come and to incorporate jesus's vision

his spiritual truth into their lives to contextualize it into their world.

This is why -.

So when jesus met the woman at the well who was a samaritan this was a

person who was not part of the traditional faith of the jews.

Why didn't jesus say that to her?

There was a very appropriate moment where jesus could have.

Look.

Verse 19.

John chapter 4.

The woman at the well said to jesus sir i perceive that you are a prophet.

Our fathers worshiped on this mountain.

But you say that in jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.

If brandon is right and you don't have to leave your own religion to be a follower of christ.

Don't you think that this was a perfect moment for jesus to say that?

Well you know what.

Samaritan woman.

I'm glad you brought this up.

Many jews do say that jerusalem is where people ought to worship.

But you know what i tell you.

Worship your ever -loving heart out wherever and to whomever you want.

It's just a free -for -all bam kingdom living.

No that's not what jesus said to her.

Look at this verse 21.

Jesus said to her woman believe me the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in jerusalem will you

worship the father.

You worship what you do not know.

We worship what we know for salvation is from the jews.

This is a direct confrontation to the idea that you can stay within your own religion.

Is it not?

Oh wait.

But it gets even more clear than that.

Look look at what jesus says next verse 23.

But the hour is coming and is now here when the true worshipers will worship the father in

spirit and truth.

For the father is seeking such people to worship him.

God is spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

Oops true worshipers must mean that there is such a thing as false worship.

If true worshipers worship in spirit and truth that must mean that false worshipers worship something.

But they don't do it in truth.

And god is looking for those who will worship him and only him in spirit and truth.

That sounds an awful lot like an exclusive religion right?

All right.

Look.

I've i've had enough.

Um i've i've just had enough of this.

And i'm sorry i got a little spicy there with brandon at the end.

Look.

Let's remember someone like him is not too far gone to the point where god cannot open his eyes

ironic and radically change his heart so that he can fully affirm what god's word really

says.

It's not too late for brandon.

I don't think it's too late for any of these folks right?

We our our marching orders are clear.

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised up against the knowledge of god.

That's second corinthians 10.

We do not destroy people.

So let's pray for these folks.

Wouldn't it be amazing to see god do a real work in their lives and transform these folks?
