Multi -faceted diamond you're able to look at different aspects of of The scriptures and all see how all of them when they come together

Give you a great wonderful beautiful picture of Christ and his revelation to us

So that when we look at these different aspects of what has been shown to us in the Old Testament We see

Christ all throughout, you know, for instance here in chapter 1 we looked at how the angels were

Less than Christ how Christ was superior to the angels and not just superior, but he is

Deity he is God If you move on into chapter 2 it starts talking about mankind

All right, let me back up was created good We have fallen so mankind mankind in and of itself is not a bad thing, but we have fallen

So is Christ superior to man? Absolutely because he is pure holy.

He is God So he's superior to us in those ways Look at chapter 3 talks about Jesus is our high priest.

He's better than the high priest of the Old Testament system look at Chapter 4 it talks about the the

Sabbath rest that is found in Christ So when you look at the the Old Testament Sabbath, it finds its fulfillment

It's ultimate fulfillment in the rest that each and every believer finds Christ You move on into the different The different chapters and it talks about Melchizedek's priesthood and the new covenant and how the church gathers together

And how all of these things point to Christ and how he is superior to the Old Covenant system that was pointing to him

And it's the same thing when you look at this verse that is quoted here from Psalm Psalm 110 and not just that verse but all of Psalm 110

So I think what we're planning on doing this evening is actually looking at Psalm 110 and seeing how

Psalm 110 is quoted in the New Testament and Then we're going to pick up on the the different themes that that flow through that and we're going to do all of that in the next 17 minutes

Psalm 110 says this it's seven verses says the Lord says to my Lord Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool

The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter rule in the midst of your enemies your people will offer themselves freely on that day of on the day of your power in Holy garments from the womb of the morning

Therefore he will lift his head There's a lot there So we'll just start with the first line

A lot of these quotations are going to take on the whole first verse, but we'll start back in In Matthew 22, we'll pick up.

Jesus is speaking with the Sadducees who say there's no resurrection of the dead He's is telling them

That they don't really understand what they're asking is we're trying to trap him they're trying to say, you know Who's who's uh, this is what

I say This guy died and his brother married the lady and that brother and that brother.

None of them had kids So whose wife will she be in the resurrection? He's like you're not really understanding what the scriptures are trying to say here.

He's trying to explain to them that they don't really understand what they're talking about He says now he says now while the

Pharisees were gathered together. Jesus asked them a question So he was talking with the

Sadducees and the Pharisees the Pharisees are now there and he's asking the Pharisees a question What do you think about the

Christ? Whose son is he he's trying to pinpoint to prove to them They don't know the scriptures as well as they think they do

Which honestly we could take that lesson for ourselves We probably don't know them as we definitely don't know what know them as well as we should

Christ whose son is he and they said to him the son of David? And why is that well because David wrote

It's not David's son Per se it is his grandson according to the lineage and genealogy

But that's not what he's getting at way saying the Lord said he said the Lord said to my Lord God Almighty said to David's Lord sit here at my right hand until what until I make or until I put

The the position of David and how how David would have been so elevated in their mind the position of David their ancestor their their king and Being at the top of the lineage of of the

Messiah to come like you were talking about and Jesus is saying, okay Yes He he's elevated, you know, he's up here like you like you're thinking but also

He has a Lord and Master and That's who he's speaking to here And so his his son or the

Messiah to come is going to is going to be the Lord and Master over This this one that you have elevated or that, you know is elevated above you already so much

Right, right It's really neat because what you're saying here is is Jesus ahead of time

Before he actually tells the folks on the road to Emmaus that all of the Old Testament law and the prophets were pointing to me

He's showing them that the law and the prophets are speaking about him Yeah that that the whole of revelation was coming to this point showing that that Christ is

Supreme that he is God come in the flesh And That he is is higher than David.

He's showing how how Christ cut out that when the Christ comes it's God coming and he is higher and better than all of the the national

Religion that they had had set up as good as it was because it was given to them by God as good as it was

Christ God was bringing something better Than they had before because they were getting to know it in the fullness.

They're getting to know it through salvation through Christ who would come and die on the cross for them and then reign over them in true salvation in true form not through and a

He only quotes a portion of it, but he could have quoted, you know, even a smaller portion of it but what he does include here is

Son of God. We're looking for the Messiah and and Jesus is making that connection here that he's claiming to be that one that that's not and There's gonna be some enemies and Their their path moving forward doesn't look too bright right saying something

Yeah that they missed I don't want to be his enemy. I want to be his friend. Yeah. Well, you've got two options there

They're offering sacrifices for the cleansing of the flesh As a sacramental

He is that Christ? He doesn't have to stand up and be represented as a sacrifice He doesn't have to go and die over and over again for sins.

Proficient for sins once and then sat down and now what's happening is all of his enemies the ones who were trying to put him

Down he's a waiting for them to be put under his feet Now what you have there's a complete conquering of the entire world and you may be like well not everybody's his enemy

So how is that complete conquering, but you have a conquering in two ways number one you see the footstool for his feet when he is

The other way or first way on whichever way you want to look at it is Christ taking his enemies and making them as friends because when he paid for sins

He took those ones who are enemies and defeated them in such a way that they weren't destroyed, but the day became friends

They were on his side now. They were Regenerated in their heart and brought into a new faith in Christ So you have a complete conquering of the world there

So he made forgiveness for sins and now he awaits those who?

Jesus made the sacrifice It was sufficient. He was able to sit down And he sat down at the place of authority, which is the right hand of God, but he's he sat down it's finished and now

It says your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power in Holy garments from the womb of the morning the dew of your youth will be yours that isn't necessarily quoted expressly, but it is alluded to in the book of Revelation Chapter 19 and since the book of Revelation is not controversial at all.

I figure I'll just go there so Look at chapter 19 verse 11 of Revelation says and I saw the heaven open behold a white horse and he who sat on it is faith called faithful and true talking about Christ and In righteousness he judges and wages war

Almighty So, what is it that Christ is doing up in heaven Christ is up in heaven he is coming to the earth

Figuratively, I believe because this is him riding a horse, you know through the sky And he's bringing with him all army from heaven this clothed in white linen now listen here back over here at Psalm 110 verse 3

What we're seeing here is Christ conquering his enemies While seated in heaven waging war upon those who will not bow the knee to Christ so We see this theme all throughout

Christ is doing is he has come Paid for sins once and for all he's now seated at the right hand of the

Father in heaven The Lord said to my Lord sit at my right hand. He's seated on the throne of David now ruling and reigning and Bringing all enemies under subjection either through the word of the gospel or through the wrath of judgment.

That's right So we have a choice Because that involves everyone on the planet everyone on the planet now

but Because of what Christ has done Christ coming to the earth living a perfect life dying a death that we couldn't taking his arson upon himself

Dying and then raising again and now seated at the right hand of the Father He's not just there waging war with with a sword to kill

But he's waging war also by saying come and find your rest in me so every single person who

Trusts and believes in the Lord repents of their sin will find him to be an absolutely perfect Savior And that is a wonderful and glorious thing to see here in the scriptures

The Weapon of choice here in Revelation as Dan read is a sword and that sword represents the

Jesus Jesus is the Word of God. Yep, and and that's what he that's what it says here in verse 13 he is the

Word of God and the the sword is coming out of his mouth the the Word of God is sharper than any two -edged sword and It's the

Word of God that is that it's his weapon of choice that he's either using to save and protect his people or it's the instrument of judgment and wrath and it's and it's the
